I found this out after a small family reunion in 2001. I've met a lot of people with my last name, but I should've looked in a different direction. There were a lot of people that I mistook for cousins and weren't close to being related through my granddad. Now that I think about it, we might've still been related through my great-grandmother's family after all.

Then my dad when to school with someone with the same name, so people pluralized his last name to make the distinction between him and the other guy. He signed my parents marriage certificate with his changed last name, and put that name on me and my brother’s birth certificates. So I’m not related to anybody with my last name 😂
Someone in my family killed someone a long time ago then left town and changed their last name. So now there is a joint family reunion with real last name/fake last name family.
