Looking trim Shawn, have you been working more on your fitness? I'm not sure of your size but similar to me 5`8 150 or so. Did you find having a smaller stature was harder in the teams or in combat? Or was it an advantage at times? What's your take on size in the teams?
Love listening to Shawn Ryan and Dave Rutherford when they get the chance to getb together... + Shaw Ryan, content you have put out on your Channel Vigilance Elite has saved my life.... thank you bro for everything you have done for me and everything you continue to do. Please don't ever stop putting out content on Vigilance Elite, you are great at what year do and your production value is second to none and it reaches people, it helps people / if you're bored and you find yourself starring at that ceiling, I understand and I just wanted to say thank you for helping me a little over a year ago ❤
Hi David I'm not American,,I'm British but can I just say thank you for your service,,no doubt you served with my countrymen 🇬🇧 in Afghan and Iraq..god bless you brother..what you guys do is bad ass...support our troops 🇬🇧--🇺🇸
The best part of hearing you and Shawn speak to each other is not just the candid nature with which you speak of your experiences, but how well you two illustrate the diversity of personalities within the Special Operations community.
The friendship and bond you two have together is unbreakable. I absolutely love listening to you bounce stuff off each other and hearing where your conversations go. Thank you both so much for the sacrifices you’ve both made and for the ones you continue to make for us all. That includes the great podcasts and Shawn the VE posts are amazing stuff.
37 and looking back on the fuck up I was for many years. And when I have those times I start kicking my own ass for not making better decisions, listen to you Rut and Shawn, it helps me understand and accept that right now is the most important time in my life. Thanks guys
Man...I know that statement, "I do what I can but, if someone commits suicide, its not my fault." might piss someone off but, that is ABSOLUTELY NOT a burden any man should be attempting to shoulder. I think that's an important thing for vets to let sink in. It isn't your fault. Do what you can, help a brother out if possible but, if you cant, the reality is you have to accept that you cant always be there and it isn't your responsibility to try to be. Glad I found you guys, thank you.
I have the utmost respect for these two Seals! As a former Infantryman/Combat Vet and LEO, these two are Warriors that inspire me. Greatness and Humility summarize these two Patriot's.
Can’t say enough about these men. Not only did they endure some of the most challenging training of their lives but they’ve stayed together, helped one another and remained comrades for all these years. Just look at the group and who is included in this group. Look at their lives now ( and that doesn’t even touch on the things we don’t see or understand). I’ve been there, still there.... you guys are inspiration to all men, ALL MEN! Thank you Let’s never forget these unique individuals for the sacrifices they’ve made. Voluntarily or not, they are today’s heroes of our time. Let the tradition carry on.... and demand the VA step up for the support each and every Vet deserves! Thank you Shawn and Rutt.
This David Rutherford dude rocks. He was writing a blog everyday and his writing totally rocks. Haven’t seen much lately, and mis the content. He would be a GREAT novelist.
My first comment ever: I have been a fan of both of you for quite a while and have seen other interviews between the two of you, this was the best yet. This was great on so many levels. Thank you both for your service. You have always been able to articulate certain things with the civilization population, but this was the most introspective and relatable interview yet. Awesome. Thank you again.
Anytime that you two get together, I know its gonna be an outstanding, productive time! Love you both brothers! The service that y'all provide for the people is always unyielding! Very much appreciate it! Thanks!🙌🙌
interesting comment about all the leadership books. That comment was brutally honest! Much appreciated and well respected! thanks for that. I hope you guys can make the time to keep these going. like many have said the humor is freaking awesome!
It would be great if you guys had a podcast together or just did more stuff together thru your own separate channels. I know you guys live in different states but I just love listening to you guys talk about life.
I appreciate the content you’re been putting out Dave. I like listening to you and Shawn the most because I can relate most to both of the struggles you guys have experienced despite all the success. Really helps me with my depression and anxiety. Thanks for lifting me up.
Thanks for this. It’s good to get a picture of what life is like for you hero’s of our freedom, after service. Thank you, Gents for your sacrifice, honesty and leadership - if even over the web. You would never accept it, but we owe you a debt of gratitude. Your families as well.
Rut, I'm so glad I found your new podcast, I missed you when you left tnq, but now I have to cool podcasts to listen to and Sean Ryan is an awesome guest..
Dave and Shawn, the two of you.... are outstanding! Individually and together! For what it’s worth, I find your brutal honesty, your dark humor, and your genuine candor refreshing! Thank you for sharing your personal failures , fears, troubles, strengths, and victories... you cannot fathom how much it helps to know that such accomplished individuals like you two, deal with the same issues as the rest of us “turds”! Thank you both for the excellent content and your continued service to the human condition! Please keep up the amazing work! More hood slides and night shoots please! I wish you both a lifetime of health, happiness, and success! Shawn, congratulations on your approaching nuptials! God bless you both!!!
I’d watch anything with you two guys in it. Vigilance Elite- Shawn is one of my favorite people to watch. It would be an honor to meet both you guys some day!! If ever in the Pacific North West-
First, thank you for your service. As far as you not assimilating into the civil world being your problem, you're right. But what's great about it being your problem is you are the one in charge of that problem. You are the one who has control over that problem. You get to try and solve that problem the way you want. There is nothing better than you having control over your life, having the choice in what kind of life you will lead, and the ability to lead that life the way you want and not the way someone else dictates. You get to try things out and if they fail, good! It means you're that much closer to figuring it out to where you can shape and mold that assimilation to work for you. This is part of that purpose they were talking about, and purpose leads to passion, passion to drive, drive to fulfillment, fulfillment to happiness and overall joy. So you are now entering what could be the best adventure of your life as of yet, if you so choose. And this is where it comes full circle where you said it's your problem. The first step is to change that phrase to it's your adventure. Good luck man. You can do it. Anyone who has the mental fortitude to serve their country for 23 years has way more than enough fortitude to assimilate. Not only that, but people with military backgrounds have the ability to rise above civilians (and I'm speaking as a civilian), lead better lives and be better people. It is often people like you that us civilians admire the most and turn to when things get tough. So in reality you're still serving your country, but now it's to be a shining example of what men should be and how they should act.... With courage, conviction, and integrity. That's how you assimilate and then rise above, because all are lacking in society today and young men desperately need good role models. I personally believe there are no better than men who have the unselfishness and love of their fellow man to serve their country. You already have a head start on most men in this "civil world", it's up to you take on that problem and lead the civilian men around you who are looking for guidance.
I can't say how much you both have brought to my life, thank you both along with Mike@field craft and other operators that just listening to have entertained and helped adjust!!! God bless!!!
I absolutely love watching and listening to you both. I have not been through and seen what you two have, but can most definitely apply a ton of what you have to say in my life. You guys are awesome!
Story: When I went back in service (Army). One day I was with the First Sergeant and he was speaking to this elderly gentleman who was his first First Sergeant when he was a Private. I remember my Top asking his first mentor how he liked civilian life. The older man responded, “ don’t like it, don’t like it at all, there are no ARs ( Army Regulations ). I always remembered that answer. It helped me a lot later on.

Gotta start off with how awesome you guys are. It’s refreshing to hear and see the best of the best warriors admitting that they too have faults and that they’re just humans, it’s great to hear that y’all struggle with stuff that people who weren’t on the teams struggle with. It’s also good that you’re humble enough to admit that you needed help and that you’re not a sissy liver for asking for it. A lot of people don’t turn to the lord for guidance like you do, they turn to people like you, and by you mentioning your faith and putting out there that you look up to a god will lead them and inspires me to wanna follow you more. One thing I wanted to say about your parenting comment, you said you’ve read every book and still have questions so on and so forth. As a man of faith, I can say 2 things with confidence that applies to any parent of any background. 1. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understandings but in all ways acknowledge him and he will set your path straight. Proverbs 3:5-6, that will be your ultimate answer key to being a parent. 2. There is no rule book or guide or manual to being a parent because every child is different, sure they have a ton on similarities but ultimately what worked for one may only partially work for you, if at all. Anyway, I’m sure this is no new news to you but I felt compelled by you to share what wisdom has been passed on to me like you two have for us. Thank you again gentlemen for being brave enough to do what most men won’t and I don’t just mean going to war. God Bless you both

Fuckin awesome. No greater feeling than meeting up with a brother you served with. Well, a Saturday night in Thailand comes pretty close. Badass episode.
I did all the same things these guys did as a kid (although I was very good at school), playing war, etc but health issues kept me out from ever being able to play the real life version. And it really sucks.
Rut, Am I spying your Evel Kneivel helmet and suit by the door? I’m guessing your cape is in the other room..... good Stuff, love your channel and Sean’s one BAMF from the rip..
How could you guys do this to me? I have a limited and exclusive set of podcasts I listen to on a weekly basis. Both Froglogic and Vigilance Elite are on it. You combined them into one!!! I'm cheated out of one. On a serious note, though seriously don't cheat me again because I'll stray, you guys hit me right into the gut this week. Y'all (Yes, I may be living in Florida, but I'm a Southern Georgia Peach that says y'all) went deep and talked about things I've always wanted to know from a SEAL, especially those team/Brotherhood/peer pressure fears that drive and effect a man. My boyfriend is a team guy and this conversation really opened my eyes to some of the things I've seen in him. It is different, we are different from each other with how we handle everything, because I'm not a team guy, and don't respond like one. I'm a woman and a civilian. Its ...very different. Maybe now, through that little bit of understanding, I'll be able to approach some things in a different way that he will be able to better relate. Thank you for sharing. As Shawn put it in not so simple terms, there's too much fake shit out there and people working too hard to put on a fake front, it's hard to hear real truth in all that. But I heard truth today, and that helps. Thank you both for your sacrifices, and for being who you are. Appreciate you both - Shawn's raw honesty and Ruts poetic heart. Love you both.
Don't have to listen to a single second of this podcast to send a like - I know I'm going to live it so BAM! immediate right off the bat like and share for me sirs. You guys are awesome please keep doing what you do!
I'm prepping for usmc boot camp and will then go for 0372 Raider Regiment when I'm out of my mos school, (which I'm not really sure of my choice of mos)
My brother... Love you man, thank you for having me, and thank you for being my friend. Can't wait to listen to this.

I'd love to know what happened with TNQ podcast with rut? Why he isn't on it any more. BTW great podcast props to these guys! pillar of my day!
