내가 기억하는 힙합은 이랬었다. 무형의 가치를 소중히 여기고 낭만과 다수를 위한 목소리가 섞여있었다. 그러나 쇼미라는 프로가 등장하면서 그들이 말하는 '올드 힙합' 이 괄시 되면서 나는 내가 사랑하는 것들이 모욕받는 기분을 느꼈다. 그래서 나는 쇼미 이후의 메이저 힙합을 증오한다. 그 힙합을 창작하고 즐기는 모든 사람들을 무시하고 가짜라고 치부한다. 나 같은 사람들이 한둘이 아닐거라 생각한다. 작금의 힙합은 무시받아 마땅하다. 클래식을 무시하는 예술 장르는 지금의 국힙을 제외하곤 그 어디에서도 찾아 볼 수 없다. 그러므로 지금의 한국힙합은 예술이 아니라고 할 수도 있을 것이다.
내 나름대로의 뮤비 해석 지구 분장을 한 사람 - 뮤비 전체에서 지구의 파괴를 그리고 있는데, 지구를 죽이는 것은 곧 인류를 죽이는 것. 또 지구 분장을 한 사람이 훅 'no reason to live without you'를 부르는데, 이는 인류가 지구에게 하는 말인 동시에 지구가 인류에게 하는 말임. 인류가 지구를 떠나서 살 수 없듯이, 지구도 인류가 떠나면(혹은 다 죽으면) 지적 생명체가 존재하는 행성이라는 의미를 잃어버림. 소와 햄버거 - 소 여러마리가 상품 진열처럼 같은 간격으로 있는데, 바로 다음에서 다 햄버거 패티로 바뀌는 것과 연결돼서 생명이 상품으로 취급되는 생명 경시를 그린다고 볼 수 있음, 이어서 햄버거를 먹는 것은 다름아닌 소인데, 소가 소고기를 먹듯이 인간도 서로 먹고 먹힌다는 해석과 소고기로 만든 음식물이 버려지고 그걸로 만든 사료를 다시 소가 먹는다는 해석이 가능. 참치와 통조림 - 앞의 소와 햄버거와 비슷. 다만 그걸 먹는 묘사는 없어서 인간 사이의 약육강식 같은 의미는 없음. 지구 개발 - 타워크레인이 세워지면서 지구의 숲이 없어지고 건축물이 생겨남. 동시에 지구를 떠나는 새 떼는 무분별한 개발로 인한 생태계 파괴를 의미. 세 원숭이 - 도쿠가와 이에야스의 무덤에 있는 상. 원숭이가 눈, 귀, 입을 막고 있는데, 논어의 '예가 아닌 것은 보지도, 듣지도, 말하지도 마라'에서 유래했다는 설이 많음. 세상에 나쁜 것이 너무도 많으니 이런 것들을 차단한다는 의미인 듯. ballot box - 투표함. 정치에 무관심한 사람들이 선거일에 투표를 안 하고 휴가를 가면서 제 역할을 못한 투표함이 부서지고, 결국 그 안에서 나온 쇠사슬이 선택의 자유를 상징하는 화살표를 속박해 버림. 격투기 장면과 국회 싸움장면의 교차는 정치 무관심에서 비롯된 부패한 정치판을 의미. 꼭두각시 - 골격이 드러난 인간 형상이 pain(고통)을 짊어지고 계단을 끝없이 오르고 있음. 누군가가 그 형상을 조종하고 있는데, 정장의 팔소매를 봐서 권력자를 상징하는 듯. 각종 공장, 미사일, 전쟁 장면 - 해석 불필요. 눈이 그려진 정사면체(전시안이라고도 함) - 배후에서 전세계를 지배하고 있다는 음모론 속의 비밀결사 일루미나티의 상징. 불타는 지폐 - 지폐에 써진 세계정부, world government는 전세계를 지배하는 권력을 의미. 여기에도 전시안이 그려진 걸로 봐서 일루미나티와 연계되는 것일 수도 있지만, 현재 전세계에 영향을 끼치는 대표 강국 미국을 의미하는 것일 수도 있음. 실제 미국 1달러에도 전시안이 그려져 있음. 화폐는 자본주의와 권력을 상징하는데, 화폐가 불타는 것은 권력의 소멸을 의미한다고 볼 수 있고, 그것도 세계정부의 권력이 소멸했으니 전 세계가 무정부 상태, 말 그대로 대혼란 상태임. 비커 속의 지구 - 2:46 에서 아주 잠깐 비커에 담긴 지구본이 나오는데, 비커 밑에 알콜램프가 있음. 더 볼 것 없이 지구의 기후 변화를 의미. 인공위성 - 2:46에서 멈춰보면 인공위성에 save us라고 써져 있는데, us와 earth의 발음이 비슷하니 우리(=인류)를 구하는 것과 지구를 구하는 것은 같다는 의미로 볼 수 있음.

에픽 4집 이후 음악, 아니 ..적어도 그 후로 시중에 나오는 앨범 안에서의 곡들의 색들이 바뀌어서 좀 아쉬운감이 있었는데 이 노래는 진짜 그 후로 앨범을 통해 나온 에픽하이 곡들중에서 그 성공을 가장 확실히 보여주는 곡이라는 생각도 든다. 3년전에 들을때나 지금 들을때나 변함없이 좋은듯. 에픽하이만이 할 수 있었던 곡이라는 생각이 든다.

I have been promoting this album to anyone with ears, I swear. Music this good cannot be passed up. My brother who usually laughs at me for my choice in mainstream K-Pop will not say one negative comment about Epik High. It's all [well-deserved] praise.
늦은 저녁 운동 학원 선생님이 틀어놓은 봉고차 라디오에서 누워 신승훈의 라디오를 켜봐요, 에픽하이의 1분 1초가 같이 나와 들었던 기억이 생생하다. 오빠 전자사전에 있어서 듣게 된 노래가 Map the Soul인데 멜론에서 한달에 30곡씩 다운받아 mp3로 담아두면 한곡 한곡 모두 버릴 게 없이 열심히 들었다. 타블로님 라디오 통해서 랄라스윗도 처음 알게되었는데...라디오, 전자사전, 텔레비전 같은 기기를 통해 만났던 에픽하이와의 기억이 내 의식 속에 선명하게 자리잡은게 신기하고, 이런 음악을 듣고 자라서 기쁘다.
I just now realized that I have been listening to the international version since I found this song! Whether it's the original or the World Wide Version it's still an amazing song.

Listened to the International version first then listened to the Korean one now. I like this version much better, goes harder and feels more authentic. I don't even speak Korean but I can feel the flow and the words behind it. Great stuff by Epik High.

늦은 저녁 운동 학원 선생님이 틀어놓은 봉고차 라디오에서 누워 신승훈의 라디오를 켜봐요, 에픽하이의 1분 1초가 같이 나와 들었던 기억이 생생하다. 오빠 전자사전에 있어서 듣게 된 노래가 Map the Soul인데 멜론에서 한달에 30곡씩 다운받아 mp3로 담아두면 한곡 한곡 모두 버릴 게 없이 열심히 들었다. 타블로님 라디오 통해서 랄라스윗도 처음 알게되었는데...라디오, 전자사전, 텔레비전 같은 기기를 통해 만났던 에픽하이와의 기억이 내 의식 속에 선명하게 자리잡은게 신기하고, 이런 음악을 듣고 자라서 기쁘다.

Listened to the International version first then listened to the Korean one now. I like this version much better, goes harder and feels more authentic. I don't even speak Korean but I can feel the flow and the words behind it. Great stuff by Epik High.

I just read about each of the member and they all had such strange and interesting lives. Their dedication to music is so admirable. I cant believe it. This group never ceases to amaze me. Apprantly, Mithra was poet and when he met tablo, they both instantly liked eachother music/poems and Dj Tukutz was obviously as awesome dj. Tablo was the strangest of them all! But all in a good way. His mind seems to be a treasure lol. smart too. went to Stanford?
