The original plan was to have a single 1 hour video to cover all 5 NSMB games. As you may know, I have been working on this project for months now, and decided I don't want to keep any of you waiting any longer.
*_Starting today,_* I will be releasing a NSMB video every other Friday until we have covered the entire series.
There's a lot to cover and I'm excited to finally be rolling these out. Thank you for not only being patient, but being apart of this creation process.
And most importantly: Please enjoy!
Well. I'm perfectly fine with that. In fact, I felt you should have done the option you felt was less stress intensive. Either way, I'm glad you released a video in general.
I enjoyed the hell out of the first NSMB back in the day, since then I think i've only played a handful of hours in the other titles in the series
Finally
Meh, I like longer videos more but I guess this way it's more easier to get youtube money, huh.. good video, though.
@@eksmad The longer *(full)* video will still be released _(and will include things not in these shorter versions;)_ But I feel guilty about keeping people waiting for too long.
This is less about "RUclips money" and more about keeping the channel active for those who are patrons.
Luigi's card games were the first step towards my gambling addiction.
Me too.
Same XD, i have won 1000s of money on it
I remember not know wtf to do in that mini game
yo sameee
jk lol i loved those
I mean, if there wasn't someone who didn't play this game who isn't now an gambling addict I'll be surprised.
That ds turn on sound was a roller coaster of nostalgia
For me, most of the video was nostalgia
@@Shroomy0002 same.
*Same!!*
@Dragon Kirby, that was weird to me too! I mean, how did they do that!
General Fletch duh duh duh, PING! is the nostalgia one for me.
Ah man, to this day I remember showing off to my friends by holding L+R to play as Luigi and acting like I was some kind of gaming god. Good times.
YOU CAN PLAY AS LUIGI
Angie725 WHAT?!?!
Lol same. I was the kid who spreaded rumors over fake stuff. Oh how times have changed.
Demon Cat you never got one of those cheat books at a book fair?
Wait what?
The best part about the multiplayer vs. mode is that nobody ever got mad, in my experience. Like you can mess with the other player but it pretty much *never* felt unfair. That mode is a serious blast!
Yeah
I really wish they would bring it back and they could do it with 4 player now
Soft Critic
I actually practiced „social vs.-mode“ with a friend of mine, meaning that we would occasionally let the other win so the scores would be balanced out. It was our replacement for NSMB Wii’s co-op mode that we couldn’t take on long car rides. You might think that this completely defeats the purpose of this mode, but we still had a ton of fun.
I agree.
Back when you didn't have to pay for two games to play.
Sadly, I fell victim to having a younger brother. I _always_ had to let him win.
it felt unfair to my friend when we played because i kept beating her at it
6:20
>Uses footage of the grassy levels
>Uses song from the beach levels
FINALLY someone noticed!
"Come on, it's Monty Mole in a tank"
Hmmm...Me thinks Wii Tanks has an effect here..
No its just that Monty mole is a GOD
"The games as easy as a kindergarten exam"
Tell that to my 10 year old ass, final bowser castle and the snakeblock level after the tower. They haunt me as much as the Parabuzzy level in Wiis world 7 and the horrible Fire Pirana plants in 9-7.
Alpha X-shroom I didn’t even beat the last level of this game lol. I probably could now as an adult. But like definitely want to go back to this game as a 22 year old and outright destroy it
I just get a huge kick out of beating games I didn’t quite finish as a kid.
i just recently found my old DS and finally beat the last half of world 8 that I rage quit from at least 10 years ago
its amazing
World 8 was a pain in the neck. A lot of levels that seemed endless and you'd die several times trying to do 1 level. Crows, lava, ghosts and so on made world 8 annoying as hell and I found it difficult. Not to mention the falling lava levels
The final world is actually kinda hard. I would put it as maybe the hardest world in the nsmb series.
"So basically, it's perfect"
Edit: God this video reminded me how much I fucking loved this game. Playing the mini games and challenges with my siblings and friends was always so fun.
Agreed.
Agree
Agree
Agreed
Agreed.
You're the first person I've seen praise the Blue Shell. Bold.
I can relate though, I actually enjoy the Spring Mushroom from the Galaxy games.
Kelsey Raabe blue shell was the fucking best, I always tried to beat levels only in shell form
Wait, people don't like the blue shell?
People _don't_ like the blue shell?
I loved the blue shell
I personally don’t like the blue shell just because you automatically go into it when running at full speed. I wish you just pressed down to go into it and I would probably freaking love it
You talking about the Mario vs Luigi mode and the mini games was a WAVE of nostalgia damn
This game probably has my favorite final world, i love how it progresses from a haunted wasteland in the first 4 levels to a volcanic hell in the latter half right before the true final castle.
"We hadn't had a 2D mario adventure since Super Mario World." Super Mario Land 2 wants to talk to you.
1:36 I guess people truly did forget about Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.
6:19 I don't know why, but I find the fact that you synched up the "bahs" with the footage while using a completely different track really impressive for some reason
Same, I noticed that too
My dad bought this for me when i was 6 and oh my god i still remember all of these levels and powerups because they were just so iconic, really something i didnt have with the other games.. it’s one of the best games of the 2000s in my opinion.
and Mario Kart ds
@@vm8886 YEP ! MariO KaRt !!! Ds Kicks SERIOUS BOoTy !!!
Same dude. I knew all interactions in this game
"we didn't have a 2d Mario game since super Mario world"
Super Mario Land 2 : am I a joke to you?
That game was fun
@@scott5388 I didn't played while a child but I see that this game was very fun, a super Mario world experience on a gameboy, but also creative, with all the new ennemies and course themes
That is a damn good game. Wario Land was great too, though not technically a "Mario" game.
Wish I could find my old Gameboy games. I would totally pick up a Super Gameboy (SNES).
@@scramblesthedeathdealer idk why mario world 2 yoshis Island is counted as a Mario character while Mario land 3 wario land doesn't. Maybe because if has an appearance of mario but he's not the protagonist.
@@gamermapper I don't know, I personally never think of Yoshi's Island as a "Mario" game, as you're not actually playing as Mario, he's more of an annoying gimmick in the game.
If you took baby Mario out of that game, I would probably play it for more than a few minutes at a time without hearing that awful crying.
3:53 Yes I actually do have a better explanation. The person who shoots lightning on the castle is the same Lakitu guy from world 7 castle boss fight.
lakithunder
Glad I'm not the only one that remembers how absurdly fun the vs mode in this game is.
"Excluding Ports and remakes, we haven't has a sidescroller since Super Mario World in 1991"
Me, an intellectual: Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
Exactly my thoughts! And wasn't SM World released in 1990?
@@navajo9243 Think so
@@christiankirbo he's talking about western releases
@@scott5388 Mario Land 2 was a western release. And pretty sure it came out in 1990
@@christiankirbo 1992.
3:55 might have been Lakitu summoning storm clouds
The last "new" 2D Mario before NSMB DS was actually Super Mario Land 2 for Gameboy, which came out in 1992
"All these games are incredibly forgiving."
Meanwhile...
I'm in college and have never been able to beat a 2d mario game.
ok that's just because you probably don't have functional hands then
Hey, can't blame you. Comes easier to some folks than to others, especially since some people have grown up with those kinds of games.
A new 2d game or the og's?
LOL
If you haven't played the new super mario bros games and only the classic 2d mario games, then it's understandable. The classics are harder than the new smb series
This is my favourite ds game.
I found the cartridge on a plane under my seat when I dropped a Lego mini figure
1:33
Super Mario Land 2: "Am I a joke to you?"
The cloud at the start is actually a boss fight in world 7
anyone remember mario saying "bye bye!" when you close the ds, good times.
Yep. So nostalgic. And it was like that in SM64DS as well.
The memories are flooding back...
Oh yeah and when you open it he says its a me mario man good times 😂😂
"First 2D appearance of red coins."
Yoshis Island: Am I a joke to you?
i always thought the soundtrack was saying "hop! hop!"
I thought it just said “ha! ha!”
@Sonic Katty simpleflips
This is my first time seeing your channel, and I'm glad it was this video! Man, I remember playing the Mario vs. Luigi mode on the bus with my friend who had the game, (I didn't), and he had B & Y set to jump, and A & X to run, and I found it hard to use those controls. I went to his house once, but after a while I moved and haven't seen him since. I miss you Dennis. Thank you for bringing back those memories.
Ooo the nostalgia. I think this was the best of these reviews for New Super Mario Bros I have watched too. You really did your homework and kept a level head, it shows. Earned a sub.
This game introduced me to Nintendo when I was 7. I was so addicted to it, I played it trough and found everything in it and I completely mastered the movement to the point where I could do a speedrun if I wanted. I was also considered a pro by others at this what made me kinda proud. Like the kind of person that you would ask to beat a level for you or that you dont want to play against. I completed the entire game by finding everything by myself. The movement feels so good and the secrets are brilliant. I was so proud to find out that beating the bosses with the mini mush does something. The worlds have great music that makes you happy and look nice and have great ideas. And the battle mode was so fun. I destroyed everyone in it. Also I remember the happiness of new content when I found out of the secret codes and the no scrolling back mode.
In case anyone wonders:
Play as Luigi: When selecting file press L + R + A
No scrolling back mode: While in game press L,R,L,R,X,X,Y,Y (Im not sure if I remember it correctly but it was something like that)
Another amazing video dude!! This game was my childhood (well along with NSMBW) the amount of time i put into this game is crazy! One of the best moments has to be finding out that i needed a mini mushroom to get to the extra worlds on my own, or taking my old DS Lite and battling against my mates (on their 3ds and 2ds's) and still winning. This game and Sonic rush goes to show that 3D models with sprite based backgrounds, enemies, etc can look so good! I'll always cherish this game, and i can't wait to see the video on NSMBW!!! Keep up the amazing work.
Just wow. I remember finding your top ten worst Kirby powers video something like 5 or 6 years ago, and the channel has come so far since then. The editing on this video was amazing, and so was the commentary. Keep it up!
I am here because of 2 videos: your Sonic R video that the algorithm showed me around the time it first came out, and your video about your car accident that I just saw today. I like your style and I really hope your recovery is going well. You got yourself another subscriber.
*oh lord the time has come*
I bought this game recently.
I'm definitely not disappointed.
Hold L+R when selecting a profile and you can play as Luigi
The Wii U VC or the OG?
@@DARS_04 OG
This was the second game I ever owned, and it shaped me as a gamer. So many memories! This is by far my favorite 2D platformer in the series, or hell, even ever.
As a fan of NSMB DS and Wii I found this very interesting! Looking forward to the future installments too. Great work!
First video i’ve seen by you, and i must say I laughed a lot and it was super informative! Loved the video overall, definitely subscribing.
i can think of one better explanation for the lightning at the beginning..... the lakitu boss riding a thunder cloud you fight later on !
really great video though dude, this game was really important to my childhood and i still love it today, and _god_ you don't know how satisfying it is seeing mario vs. luigi mode given such positive recognition - that gave me and my childhood friends so many great memories, and i'll always love that and the minigames _(which i had fun with my friends in my last year of high school during free periods)_ so much for that
_(i actually loved mario vs. luigi so much i made a level in mario maker 2 which remade all the stages from it and turned it into something like the purple coin levels from galaxy where you have to traverse through each section and collect every coin from the original courses + coins in the possible star locations...... honestly, it's probably one of my favorite things i've made in a game because it gave me the chance to give a bit of a tribute to such an important mode to me and hopefully some others)_
_-(though sadly the blue koopa in the ice part had to be replaced with a red one B( )-_
Great job man. This is what got me into video games along with mkds and this was presented very well. Even the knit pick at the end was funny but true lol.
Great review man. This is such a great game. I wanna shout out my favorite level in the game: the Volcano level in World 8. Amazingly fun.
i remember when me and mt brother would just fuck around in the snow level with the blue shell in the vs mode
i remember spending most of middle school playing mario vs luigi & mini games with my friends at lunch. im glad u mentioned it! nostalgia trip
11:51 Don't forget that there was also a goddamn JUNGLE level in the mountain world.
Yay! Been waiting for this! 😁
2:10 actually, the first instance of red coins in a 2D mario game was super mario bros deluxe for the gbc in 1999! just an interesting factoid
I have so many fond memories with this game oh my god- I remember just constantly playing the battle mode with my brother too and I would LOVE to see it come back, even just as its own little side spinoff- it really was a genius gamemode
I’m gonna love this series, awesome job dude
When I moved across the country 15 years ago my best friend went with me to say goodbye and we spent the entire car ride playing that vs mode... such a good memory
One of my friends often went on vacation with us and we did the same thing on the up to 8 hours long car rides. Good times.
this is so comprehensive brilliant video
"We havent had an original 2d mario game since super mario world."
Mario land 2: im i a joke to you?
Have a great 2020 you remind me of the good o'l days of RUclips!
I always loved to play the Mario vs Luigi mode, getting chased by your friend who just got the mega mushroom was so amazingly scary and funny at the same time.
I always forget how much I need SilokHawk in my feed until I get a new video
I adored this game a ton when it came out and played it dozens of times over, and playing Mario vs. Luigi was my absolute favorite multiplayer Mario experience, I almost never lost ironically, but I adored messing with my friends and brother as we'd play it all the time, the pipe level was my favorite, especially when you'd get the big mushroom! I'd love to see that game mode return!
I got an explanation for the lighting on the castle, it's the 7-castle boss
I love that game so much as a kid, I even have the cartridge to this very day.
Plus, it's still works!
I'm excited! Here's to a good new year!
I still remember when you close your ds it would make a noise
i think mario would say "buh-bye" when you closed it and "it's-a me, mario" when you reopened it
I have been waiting my entire life for this video
1:39 what about Marioland 2
3:59 i always thought it was Lakithunder. I know this was a joke but i need to know I’m not alone ~_~
I never though it was Lakithunder because I never unlocked W7
It is
I was thinking Lakithunder as well for when he asked for an explanation. Would make story sense, especially since he is technically the last main boss before World 8.
I just thought it was a random cloud
I thought it was lol
I remember on the bus rides home, my friend who didn't get games a lot because he couldn't afford it. He only had spectrum . I had Mario game so I gamed shared with him and made that made so much memories. Passed my DS a lot and seeing all my friends smile back then, that, that was my good times looking back
Ahhh the nostalgia you gave me wish that DS opening and sounds
Good video bro! Keep it up
1: Super Mario land 2 was the last 2d Mario before Nsmb.
2: Red coins were introduced in SMW, but unused, and made their official debut in Yoshi’s Island, a 2D “Mario” game.
Great video! BTW, the double and triple jump debuted in a game that most people didn't played: Donkey Kong (1994) for the Game Boy, a remake of sorts of the original arcade game with 100 great and challenging levels, truly one of the best original Game Boy titles. Please try it out if you haven't had the chance, it's on the 3DS's virtual console.
Honestly that world one music and the “Bah Bah” is so iconic. Burned into my head immediately
This was my very first video game. The nostalgia i felt while watching this video.
14 years ago today, the game that started my love for the mario franchise was born! i remember duking it out in multiplayer w my best friend. we’d also do mario v. luigi first, then gradually move on to the minigames! The exclusive multiplayer minigames were my favorite from the bunch! (specifically the yoshi snow ball fight, and the bob-omb game that takes after the classic board game, Othello.) man, those were some fun times when we were kids!! Now, we don’t really talk anymore, and are much older now, but that doesn’t stop the fact i had a memorable childhood playing this ONE specific game w him! Also, my favorite power-up always and will be, the blue shell :) just the fact that you can kill boos w it, duck when a skewer comes down on you, and swim faster as if it were a downgraded (no, i take that back UPGRADED) penguin suit, is enough to make me glad i mained this game in my childhood :)
God I had forgotten how much I loved that game. It was the first Mario game I had played and I played it constantly, those minigames were a blast from a past I had forgotten existed
the mini games and blue shell were amazing
My friend and I played Mario V.S. Luigi on the way to our school almost every day until we graduated about 6 months ago. There were some hilarious glitches occasionally, but it was still great fun, and we talk about playing it when he comes over to my house.
Those mini games were the bomb. Had a ton of card games on it and I would play with my siblings on plane rides
1:04 you know what! How DARE you kill me with my childhood nostalgia!!
The thing I remember loving the most from this game was the versus gamemode.
oh my god i got this game when it came out and i still have it somewhere, i might play the whole thing again
That intro cutscene that you said was Zeus is actually the world 7 boss Lakithunder, you can tell by the color of his cloud
Cant believe this came out in 2006 damn. I played so much of the multiplayer as kid it was incredible. The ds wireless dowload play sweetend the deal being able to play even without internet. Honestly this is my favorite game in the nsmb series with wii being a close second. Might be my favorite mario game totally if im honest
8:25 "If you duck while wearing one, the blue shell allows you to avoid being hit by things that inflict damage."
I never knew that was a feature of the blue shell. Doesn't seem like it'd be very useful, but, neat to find out.
That first world (the first Mario game I ever played) is THE most nostalgic to me!
6:45 “pond skippers” were already in Mario 64
This was the first classic-styled SMB game I ever played and beat, and man did I have a good time with it. I remember getting it on Christmas, and being enraptured with the gameplay. It was simple, yet satisfying, classic, yet modern, and an absolute blast to play. I kinda regret having gotten rid of my copy a long time ago, since there have been times where I outright thought "man, I wish I could play NSMB right now."
I SO want the Mario Vs Luigi thing to come back! I had so much fun with my bro with it back in the day
Me and my friends always played the multiplayer at robotics competitions in high school. It got to the point where I would do things like continue holding down to make it more challenging
I must have spent hours playing Mario vs Luigi with my dad, it gives me such great memories :) and the mini games were one of the highlights for me- especially when Luigi taught me how to gamble
I remember always watching my campmates play NSMB DS on the DS lite and always wanting to play it and some other times watching them play kart or the mini games and vs mode but its a roller coaster of nostalgia even if I never played it
3D World had a "blue shell" too I guess, you can catch a koopa shell and slip inside and control it while you spin, does that count?
Pretty much
@@NoahHalfSquid except it's the green shell
@@leeroyjenkins8494 or red shell
Technically it is blue if you're toad
No because it's not a direct power up. It's just an object found from an enemy.
THANK YOU, finally someone who appreciates the strength of the blue shell power up! My favourite power up in the series!
I felt like this was a really good take on the First NSMB, can't wait to see the rest!
i remember that in school we had a «game time» as an afterschool activity, i used to aleays play nsmbds and one time there was this kid who was a year older than me or something and we played the multiplayer versus and that was the first time i played it and i won, quick note i didn’t know this kid and we had so much fun lol.
The storm cloud attacking the castle in the intro is actually the boss Lakithunder you fight in the Sky World. This absolutely blew my mind as a child. Like „Holy shit, it all makes sense now!“
NSMB Wii is my favorite because was the first game I got with my wii and it gives me so many happy memories and so much nostalgia
This was the first game that I LOVED and played any free chance I got. I knew it was based on an older game but didn’t know the history of super Mario bros at all, I was just so proud when I finished it.
This has the best intro
Finally an explanation for why mario is small when you start
Man the mario vs luigi WAS MY CHILDHOOD, BRING IT BACK!!!
Damn the DS minigames brought back so much nostalgia, I sank so much time into them, especially the pirranha plant string one and the trampoline one.
Man this gave me so many memories. That is my all time favorite Mario game, heck! It’s the best platformer I could play.
The VS mode literally shaped my childhood. Especially when the opponent got a mega mushroom, I remember the memories of crying in laughter and fear when these things came about!
