I am more than frustrated, I have been reaching out to people and government bodies to see what I can do, and now after a month I find out there is nothing I can do.
    The cars VIN is: WMZYT3C5XK3E94648

Finding a mechanic like you is like finding a needle in a haystack. Back in the 90s, I knew a very honest mechanic, and gave him all of my business when it came to our car. Case in point: I was driving a 1985 Dodge Charger, and had been hearing a "grinding" sound coming from the brakes. After a couple of weeks or so of that, I took it to him (it was the soonest I could). When he took it apart and saw the damage that had been done, he stopped and took me into his shop to show it to me. He explained everything in words I could understand (I'm not stupid, but me under the hood of a car is like a monkey doing algebra), and straight up told me that "If you had done this for one more week, your rotor would have been cut completely through, and that would have ended very badly."
He was a good man, and I get that vibe from you, as well. You actually care about safety and people's lives. He ended up retiring, his shop changed hands, and the people that took it over seem mediocre at best. Currently, I don't really know any "good" mechanics, and like I said, I am clueless about these things. But knowing there are people like you out there, gives me hope that one day, I'll find one that is completely trustworthy.

It is a crime in the state of Oklahoma to disable or otherwise remove airbags from a vehicle without the consent of the owner. Call your local District Attorney's office and tell them what he is doing. You can cite Oklahoma Title 15 section 902 to them.
If he has sold or offered for sale more than 5 used cars in a 12 month period, he is also subject to the FTC's used car rule. That penalizes the misrepresentation of the mechanical condition of a used car. It is assumed that a car with airbags is sold with functional airbags. Failing to disclose a lack of functional airbags is a violation punishable by up to $50,000 per infraction. You can file an FTC complaint against him online.
I would also urge you to contact the Oklahoma Motor Vehicle Commission and tell them about his actions.

This is a crime. He brags about having done this for 40 years and not having killed anyone. If your DA is any good, that statement alone should have them chomping at the bit to get to discovery on this case to find other cases where he has broken the law by selling dangerous cars.

I'm a mechanic as well. Did a PPI for my neighbor. 2017 Honda Civic, rebuilt salvage title, but the car was priced appropriately and my neighbor was aware of it and fine with that as long as it was repaired in a reasonably competent manner. The seller had "before" pictures, and it didn't look like there was serious structural damage. The actual bodywork was done reasonably well... Didn't look perfect but the welds were good and such. However, I noticed that the driver's seat bolster had nothing in it- it was just seat fabric over air. No seat airbag. I also noticed a little bit of airbag cushion material peeking out where the side curtain bag was supposed to be. Sure enough, they'd cut the deployed curtain bag out, and put a resistor in the connector. Same thing with the seat airbag, driver's knee bag, and the seat belt retractor.
Here's the deal... All of those things could have been purchased from a salvage yard, and that's not unreasonable when you're rebuilding a car. It might have cost a few hundred dollars more... But the car would have been fixed properly. I know that I wouldn't be able to sleep if I'd done something like that. But apparently, these guys had no conscience.

If I’m buying a salvaged title I expect there to be no airbags what???? Are you guys on, how can y’all blame others for your stupidity, and a deployed airbag is not as simple as you make it seem, it’s a minimum $500, and that’s if zero plastics/other fabrics don’t break when the airbag is deployed I rather get a car 8k cheaper then have the used car place sell me a salvaged title above market price

@@david-468 When I rebuild salvage title cars, I absolutely always replace any deployed airbags. You can get used ones pretty cheaply for most cars. The only times I see them (used) for $500 or so are for late model European luxury cars. But the missing airbags aren't the real problem here, it's the deception. If you want to rebuild a car without the airbags and sell it, fine. But tell the purchaser. The problem here is that they went out of their way to make it look like the airbags were present- they put in new covers, they wired in resistors to trick the computer into thinking an airbag is there so the warning light won't come on, and things like that. But again, used airbags are usually not all that expensive, and I refuse to cut those corners when I do salvage rebuilds. Sure, I might be able to make a couple hundred bucks more. But I'd never be able to sleep at night knowing I'd deliberately misrepresented a car as having everything intact. Some people still have a conscience.

I’m about a month from graduating tech school as a diesel and heavy technician, this fucking disgusts me. I absolutely despise lazy mechanics who will put any random customer in active danger just to make a few extra dollars or save a few minutes. Where is everybody’s shame anymore??
It is absolutely baller of you to have exposed him to this extent. Any judge worth their weight in salt could see this man is ignorant of doing his job correctly and endangering people. You’re a good man.

3:47 You are incorrect. You can do something. All 50 states have statutes on the books. Contacting YOUR lawyer should be response #1. From there they can accurately articulate the the evidence to the appropriate agency. You showing your hand was premature, and not your responsibility. A responsible agency would document the findings, take your recorded conversations. Allow the transaction to occur. Then seek authorization to inspect the vehicle post sale.

Seen a few comments to the effect of "But the primary air bags will still deploy" i guess this suggests its not veiwed as being sooo bad.....
    Here's my thoughts.
Short story, who knows how the SRS control module may behave in the event of an accident.
Long story, The dummy resistors are unlikely to behave the same as the pretensioner igniters.
This is because although the SRS module is looking for a 2-3 Ohm load, i suspect the igniter wont have a purely resistive impedance.
I'd hazard guess the igniter has a heater element, which would be subject the inductance and PTC heating effect, both of which would affect the operating impedance (It would increase when operating).
If this is the case, a purely resistive load like a dummy resistor would allow much higher Current flow during a deployment, which could...
Cause an over Current, and if the other air bags used a common driver circuit within the SRS module, this may fail to operate correctly/at all.
Cause a DTC to set and since a fault is detected, airbags may fail to deploy/have increased latency.
Lets not forget the exact circuit designs and logic behind every manufacturers SRS systems is different, so what may work with one, wont with another.
No part of any SRS system should be modified, regardless or how important you view its function.... or if you think the rest of the system will operate correctly.
It took balls to call this one out, i have no doubt you may face some criticism, but you have my respect big time.
Fucking twisted wires and tape..... wasn't even a hack done well.....

This "trick" we saw here has been around since airbags were mandated in the 90's. Thank you so much for naming and shaming these fools. I have not had the misfortune of dealing with them and I'll keep it that way.
