@nomadonearth Divorce is the last resort when all attempts to keep the marriage fails. Almost no one goes into a marriage with the intention to divorce. However, sometimes it’s healthier for both spouses to part ways or else they remain miserable being together for many more years. My advise to you is try work your marriage if possible. That’s best for the children too. If you have to divorce, please do it amicably for the sake of the children. Don’t deny the other parent the right to coparent with you. It’s very hard initially to emotionally to separate from your spouse even if the marriage was dead for a long time and no love is lost between the two of you. Believe me it will get better as time goes by. And yes I do have child. His father and I do our best to get along and coparent. So far, we are doing a good job. Good luck to you.

For no fault of mine my husband cheated on me and made me and my son homeless. He took away all our belongings. At that time my mother had passed away and my son was only 2.5 years old. I cried and cried. As Mufti Menk says that was not the end. I use to read Qur'an and ask help with Almighty. Allah knows when what has to be done. Now if I turn back I laugh at myself. Why did I cry for the person who was not meant for me. Alhamdulillah myself and my son are happy at present.

I went through a very bad divorce at 24, after just 6 months of a horrifying Marriage where he abused me financially, emotionally, mentally and mostly physically, he also stole all of my possession and money. I am with a wonderful man now that has never been married before though he doesn't judge me for my past. I am thankful everyday for him. This is so uplifting. I've literally been suffering in silence for 2 years because I really wanted to hold on to my marriage and husband who's a blatant narcissist, I didnt want to be a failure and embarrass the family and just having the stigma attached to being a divorced woman. Now i've almost certainly come to a decision and I want to free myself. Before my marriage I was doing so well for myself, owned a car ,looking to be a home owner fast forward 1 year, bank account bleeding dry from husband's selfishness. Also the physical abuse, emotional abuse, psychological abuse and financial abuse. It really messes with you, I used to be such a confident independent woman and I feel like he's taken that from me. I take myself for example, I met the lady who understands and completes me by Allaah's mercy, compassion and benevolence. This was after being single and lonely for a long time. I prayed about it, exercised sabr whilst believing in Allaah. I have now been blessed with a young lady (wife to be) this year who has been taylor-made for me and vice versa, glory be to Allaah. Also ask yourself is it that you do not fall sick every 2 weeks like some of our sisters and brothers do throughout majority (if not all) of their life. I was in an abusive marriage in which I thought I'd never survive. It seemed like forever, but when I finally got out of it and looked back, it had lasted just 3 years! Took 2 years to recover from the trauma, again I felt like I'd never heal. Tried to make money by looking for jobs etc, but only got short term jobs. Started own biz but it wasn't happening. 2 years later, I'm making money enough to handle my self and kid. I'm here now with a very promising year ahead. It's true, patience works, but while you wait, do multiple tons of istighfar. WHENEVER or WHEREVER you can. No excuses.

For those of you wondering why a man Masha Allah as clean as Mufti Menk is divorced... litsen to 2 things. 1 Sometimes both spouses are good people but incompatible due to some reason... and they leave with good heart. Take the example of Hazrat Zainab R.A and Hazrat Zaid R.A.... were they bad people... no? But it just didn't work out for them. 2 Sometimes, one spouse is pious but the other one is either not pious or either not exactly someone doing shameful things but too materialistic and too much after the temporary world. As the result, 1 spouse focuses on the deen while the other focuses on the worldly life.... that is like being in a situation of trying to mix oil in water... and it just won't happen. Oil will stay oil, water will stay water.

I got divorced one year back and i was about to die bcoz i was just 23... everyone around me used to ask me that painful questions why did that happend and my mental health going all wrong way ... How are you doing now? I am going through the same. I thought my life was ruined because I am 24. Allah knows I have been pious my whole life and married a man for his deen. I did everything an obedient wife would do but it didn't work out. However, Allah has a plan for me. Perhaps this was to pull me back to Him. If this was to either wash my sins away, or bring me closer to quran, I will be grateful for His reminder that no one in this world is mine except Him. I have been through this heartbreak and suffering since 2 years. I am still trying my best to overcome this hurt but it never heals after somedays I feel the pain again and again. Divorce is the last resort when all attempts to keep the marriage fails. Almost no one goes into a marriage with the intention to divorce. However, sometimes it’s healthier for both spouses to part ways or else they remain miserable being together for many more years. My advise to you is try work your marriage if possible. That’s best for the children too.
If you have to divorce, please do it amicably for the sake of the children. Don’t deny the other parent the right to coparent with you.
It’s very hard initially to emotionally to separate from your spouse even if the marriage was dead for a long time and no love is lost between the two of you. Believe me it will get better as time goes by. And yes I do have child. His father and I do our best to get along and coparent. So far, we are doing a good job. Good luck to you.

I cried and cried. As Mufti Menk says that was not the end. I use to read Qur'an and ask help with Almighty. Allah knows when what has to be done. Now if I turn back I laugh at myself. Why did I cry for the person who was not meant for me. Alhamdulillah myself and my son are happy at present.

So interesting to know he was divorced! I was married very young & am divorced, I do not regret it because I learned many valuable lessons, especially for what I want in a spouse in the future. I am with a wonderful man now that has never been married before though he doesn't judge me for my past. I am thankful everyday for him. Also I am learning about Islam in my own time, he is Muslim & not pushy about it. If i have questions he is happy to tell me what he knows. Life is all a big lesson for us!

This is so uplifting. I've literally been suffering in silence for 2 years because I really wanted to hold on to my marriage and husband who's a blatant narcissist, I didnt want to be a failure and embarrass the family and just having the stigma attached to being a divorced woman. Now i've almost certainly come to a decision and I want to free myself. Before my marriage I was doing so well for myself, owned a car ,looking to be a home owner fast forward 1 year, bank account bleeding dry from husband's selfishness. Also the physical abuse, emotional abuse, psychological abuse and financial abuse. It really messes with you, I used to be such a confident independent woman and I feel like he's taken that from me. Best thing you can do is resolve things directly with your husband. Don’t involve anyone including relatives, friends or imams or 95% of the time you’ll get divorced. If you resolve it respectfully with your husband directly 95% you’ll stay married.

I take myself for example, I met the lady who understands and completes me by Allaah's mercy, compassion and benevolence. This was after being single and lonely for a long time. I prayed about it, exercised sabr whilst believing in Allaah. I have now been blessed with a young lady (wife to be) this year who has been taylor-made for me and vice versa, glory be to Allaah.
Also ask yourself is it that you do not fall sick every 2 weeks like some of our sisters and brothers do throughout majority (if not all) of their life.
Let's be grateful to our Maker and have a little bit of sabr in all things.

I was in an abusive marriage in which I thought I'd never survive. It seemed like forever, but when I finally got out of it and looked back, it had lasted just 3 years!
Took 2 years to recover from the trauma, again I felt like I'd never heal.
Tried to make money by looking for jobs etc, but only got short term jobs. Started own biz but it wasn't happening. 2 years later, I'm making money enough to handle my self and kid.
I'm here now with a very promising year ahead. It's true, patience works, but while you wait, do multiple tons of istighfar. WHENEVER or WHEREVER you can. No excuses.

I got divorced after 7 years of my marriage.I have a daughter sometime I feel lonely but I would never want to married again in this world. I hate the word husband due to faced ex abusive relationship. He treated me like an animal. Now everyday when I wake up in the morning, drinking evening tea, without interruption to doing daily chores I thank Allah Almighty from the bottom of my heart Allah saved my life from a bad man . For those of you wondering why a man Masha Allah as clean as Mufti Menk is divorced... litsen to 2 things.
1 Sometimes both spouses are good people but incompatible due to some reason... and they leave with good heart. Take the example of Hazrat Zainab R.A and Hazrat Zaid R.A.... were they bad people... no? But it just didn't work out for them.
2 Sometimes, one spouse is pious but the other one is either not pious or either not exactly someone doing shameful things but too materialistic and too much after the temporary world. As the result, 1 spouse focuses on the deen while the other focuses on the worldly life.... that is like being in a situation of trying to mix oil in water... and it just won't happen. Oil will stay oil, water will stay water.

I really needed to hear this, I'm not divorced, but it has been way back since the last time that I have seen happy days, I'm patient with it and handling it with sabr but sometimes I feel down and think of giving up of everything. I request to all of you please remember me in your prayers for my future..after that tragedy i got many proposals but i am scare to marry again its not easy for me to suffer again and irony is that person got engaged to another girl within 1 month nd got married after 6 months only...but i have faith in my Allah subhan o ta'ala indeed he has better plans for me and i will be happy again inshaAllah

How are you doing now? I am going through the same. I thought my life was ruined because I am 24. Allah knows I have been pious my whole life and married a man for his deen. I did everything an obedient wife would do but it didn't work out. However, Allah has a plan for me. Perhaps this was to pull me back to Him. If this was to either wash my sins away, or bring me closer to quran, I will be grateful for His reminder that no one in this world is mine except Him. May Allah forgive us and provide us with righteous partners who are perfect for us.
