I congratulate you José Antonio: research is a mixture of science and art and you share this mixture with each of your numerous works, which undoubtedly allows us to "see" the "invisible" that lies behind every work of art. I am very proud of your work.
Dude your eloquence has nailed it again ! You really get this stuff. You should be very proud of your output. A brilliant break down of the sources of the song. BTW i was lucky enough to Santana on that 76 tour which featured Europa of course.
Thank you so very much Stephen! You watched Santana's 1976 tour, wow, the sound of his guitar back then, the tone..i love it. Man as i write this, let me tell you the stats for this video are quite low on the view count haha, i'm a bit shocked, but i'm happy i made this one. My connection Europa runs deep for sure, glad you enjoyed this journey!
Very cool! I like that rabbit hole you went down, very interesting. Europa is one of those songs I’ve learned, forgotten, re-learned, re-forgotten many times, but I love it & its beautiful melody.
Jose, this is brilliant….again. I love your work and you’re editing… not to mention your research. You do an absolute A+ job on these, and if my opinion counts for anything, keep them coming.❤️
Wow, thank you! Glad you enjoyed this episode which was not popular on its release date but slowly grows. I love this song and Carlos Santana is a guitar hero in my book!
Absolutely brilliant work J. If I'm not as attentive as I usually am it's because I'm in rehab for a few months and they limit our phone time. I'm just letting you know brother because your work is keeping me sane and happy I want you to know that mate. Love and respect from Melbourne Australia 🦘.
Another great documentary 👏 my friend. Would love to see a video on Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin Love, Devotion and Surrender. You may have touched on this one, I don't remember.
Thank you Dan! I haven't talked about this part of Carlos' story but i will. The expression side of things on this album is really special. McLaughlin and Santana rocked!!!
My favorite Santana album and two instrumentals on it are sublime! In my view, the summit of Santana's art which he never topped (maybe with the exception of Moonflower). Great analysis as usual, amigo. 👍☝👏
Thanks JCM for this episode and probably my fav Santana song alongside Carnival and Let The Childrrn Play. I would further like to add and as a fellow guitarist and teacher, you are one of my favourite guitar players, you really make the guitar sing and Jeff Beck will be looking down smiling as you it appears have taken inspiration from his style and gone your own way with it, thank you❤
Wow....that's very kind of you to say. I really appreciate it. This episode btw currently has very poor viewing numbers, funny how life is right? Your comment is GOLD. Everytime i play guitar, i put my heart out, it's a gift to do it, we must celebrate it....one day at a time. I miss Mr. Jeff Beck tremendously!
The melody for Europa is based on a circle of 5ths & the song 'All The Things You Are' which was popular in the 1920s (have to check that date). The circle of 5ths is a powerful musical tool to add drama to a piece & also to transition to other keys. Europa, Samba Pa Ti & Song of the Wind are my favorite Santana numbers. They are simply majestic.
thanks man for another great vid . . the Santana recording that really hit me and got me back into him was on the Live Under the Sky live with Herbie. Their version of Spartacus on that night is another very soulful epic Santana moment that reminds me of the soul speaking and wailing like you describe here. Cheers
This video has received a very poor view count and response. It's comments like yours that really make it worth. Glad you feel this music speaks to the soul. Carlos is a LEGEND forever!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Definitely, and he is known by generations around the world even if the online views or trends might not show. When I was younger I may have been chasing the most technical metal guitar stuff for so long and I missed the importance of that soulful appeal. My parents also loved this music and had his CDs to play for happy times. Some people say, as musicians we express who we are inside as people, and that is something Mr Santana clearly excels in as well. The kindness and soul just emanates from him. Thanks for the reply and i'll see you next vid :)
I thoroughly enjoyed this JCM. It is also my favorite instrumental by Santana, and I noticed you mentioned Marvin Gaye's song I want you in the video, if you happen to notice Santana often will play snippets of I want you in the middle of Europa.
Oh Paul thanks for checking this out, it's one of the worst performing videos on the channel hehe. You are right about SANTANA playing I WANT YOU, man i missed that, but i am glad you noticed!
Hi José, what’s up? This video is cool, leaving the Zeppelin world a little…Santana is one of my favorite guitarists, this man is genius. I especially like his first albums, the mix of rock and Latin rhythms is amazing, those cats that played with him were fantastic!
I've been braching out yes Marcia, looking for new topics, i have a whiteboard filled with episode ideas so the library grows beyond Led Zeppelin. The first Santana albums are CLASSIC, 100% Hope you are doing well!
I am so sorry for your loss. Music is a timeless continuum that helps us stay close to our loved ones. You couldn't have picked a better song from your wedding. May she Rest in Peace Sir.
I saw Santana and Jeff Beck in 1995 at the beginning and end of tour. Carlos brought up an unnanounced guest - one of the members of SANTO AND JOHNNY. At thevend of the tour ( NY) he brought up VERNON REID and they played " Sun Ra" a tribute to SUN RA. The next morning of Jones Beach show- I went out of my way to buy their debut LP! NOTE: SANTANA didnt have a record contract for Woodstock appearance. 5:00
This video seems to have completely passed over the most important detail - the connection between Europa and the tune known variously as Emporte-Moi/Amor Adios/Y Volvere. First time I heard Europa, I couldn't remember any of the names of that standard song, but I'd heard it enough times to ensure I instantly recognised the connection - specifically that guitar phrase corresponding to the "no sufras mas!" moment. What I didn't know then was that the first eight notes of Europa are a specific reference to the Y Volvere arrangement
Can’t wait for this. I absolutely love the “Amigos” album. Along with Zeppelin, I’m a huge Santana fan. I love everything up to and including “Shango” and I’ve been lucky enough to see Carlos twice in concert…. back in the 80’s. One show in 89 Jeff Beck opened for him. What a double bill! I really dig the Spanish flare to Santana’s music. That Hammersmith 76 footage with him doing Europa is amazing….the whole gig rocks! Cheers
my dad was a big fan of santana as he used to own a lot of their records on vinyl and saw them a bunch of times. "europa" is my mom's favorite instrumental. santana>>>>>p.o.d. & linkin park. i never liked those bands. i hated nu metal back then and i still do. don't put deftones in that category. they were way better than that.

Really interesting episode, I plan to rewatch it with a few other people 😊
Thank you for watching. Hope you guys enjoy it. Europa is an all time classic.

Yes...his English prose rivals his guitar playing.

Thank you man! I appreciate it. This episode was not very popular with the algorhythm nor subscribers for some reason, so it's nice to see some love!
Great job, "Europa" I think is a tune that makes you touch the sky with your fingers... a masterpiece

Couldn't agree more! The tone of his guitar, the recording just everything about it, Carlos deserves the guitar hero title like his peers.
Very powerful! Wow! I have to start taking notes when you recommend these albums by artists that are part of the chain.
Gato's album is SUPERB, i wish there was a Super Audio CD of it, deserves a remaster like that!
