Just a quick correction, Miyabi's mum was getting corrupted because the animated short takes place during the fall of Old Eridu not because of the sword and she likely just a had a much weaker Ether aptitude than Miyabi.
That makes sense, i cant recall it right now but was that specifically mentioned to be the case though. Again given they were likely in old eridu as it fell i can only imagine the amount of ether coming out of there was enough to do that but for some reason i just thought it was the sword when i saw that scene, youre probably right though😂

Isnt it kinda weird its called tailless but the fox we see in those shorts had a bunch of tails or is tailless just what happens to wielders of the blade since miyabi doesnt seem to have a tail, not that ive been staring at the location of where her tail should be.. ill stop now 😂

The fox tail shown in the EP most likely the first generation of the Hoshimi family 3. The power that is stored in the sword most likely belong to this whatever they called "creator" and the first generation manage to steal fragment of it's power. 4. The sacrifice also contain the fragment of the "creator" power, that's why they change the target to Miyabi's sword after knowing it's secret 5. Exaltist is not just ethereal but most likely the group Sara and Bringer are part of

Youre probably right, the way its kept seems like its been through some form of sealing ritual or something but i also think that perhaps before this since most wielders end up embracing the powers of the sword the sheath wasnt ever needed and everyone else just knew not to touch it lol 2. I wonder about that, the creator seems like something else entirely compared to whatever this thing sealed in the sword is. An interesting thing I'd like to point out is the state of her blade. While it's fine now post story, that attack by Blazewood was the very catalyst as they used very specific rounds. Did you see how the bullets from that Hit squad (likely Bringer's men) managed to leave that weird mark to it when deflected? I'm 100% sure that being struck with that resonant Ether in those bullets led to the Tailless blade tripping out the way it did. While this was already an issue Miyabi would have to face inevitably, it feels as if there's hidden powers at work that know how to agitate Ether to enact a reaction and prompted it so much sooner. She stepped up to the plate but that gives the hint someone is familiar with that secret to me. (At least enough to prompt the events.)
Actually I was wondering whether that bullet mark on the blade would ever come up but maybe its liek what you mentioned, the nick in the sword is what made the blade go berserk for that brief moment. I wonder if it was trying to get out or it was just pissed that it got slightly damaged. I also think this isnt the last we hear of this, i mean at the end of 1.4 all miyabi and the sword got to was a precarious agreement, im sure or rather hoping that once we get into more of the ethereal lore we'll start learning more about the sword

Initially I thought that as well, except that in the conversation between phaethon, Souichirou and zhuyuan he mentions that the katana is the source of power for every head of the family and that only the head is qualified to inherit and receive it so I assumed that since miyabi is technically wielding the katana shes functionally the head of the family based on what Souichirou tells zhuyuan and phaethon. Plus i get this vibe that the hoshimi family just follows whoever can actually wield the sword since its the literal focal point of their power The blade corrupting her mother though was indeed just a guess and not a fact, maybe I didnt word that clearly enough so my bad on that. Also with theories or speculations its a bit tough to just present only facts and to be clear im not saying any of these are, just taking what we do know at the moment and stretching them out a bit. I also make it clear at the end that these are just guesses at best 😁

It's quite clear that Taillless is the name of the Ethereal/Being within the sword and in Miyabi's EP that Giant Fox is a representation of Tailless
