My grandad was a nuclear engineer and my favorite heirloom from him is my pair of Miutoyo calipers. He passed down to me when I started my degree and 60 years later they're still the best tool money can buy.
I was fortunate to come across an older machinist at a shop I worked at who had his own shop earlier in life and he sold me some amazing oldschool Starret mics and othet tools aswell as these super expensive german drill chucks, all for pennies on the dollar and those are all by far my most cherished tools and favorite to use.
Mitutoyo is that one legendary brand where you know you are going to get some of the *the best* and most precise and accurate tools humans are capable of creating. I feel like there's a level of prestige in owning tools from Mitutoyo, even though they can be found in-use everywhere. I know a few of my local auto mechanic shops have at least one set of Mitutoyo calipers on hand because I've seen them while bringing my car in for service. I'd bet they likely have a slew of other Mitutoyo tools in a toolbox I didn't see. Whether you realize it or not, everything we interact with daily was designed, developed, and engineered using at least one of Mitutoyo tools. Thank you Mitutoyo for doing what you do.
Japan's Quality is the best all over the world. Now I know how this things made. I love Mitutuyo calipers I used this everyday in my work. thanks for sharing
Great job Travis and Tyson. So happy to see all this "never before seen" footage. It's truly a rare glimpse in our quality manufacturing process. Looking forward to more videos!
My first ever machinist tool was a brand new set of 6 inch digital mitutoyo calipers. My dad's friend gave them to me when I was 14 years old, so 23 years ago. I still have them, and my dad's friend has since passed. A few years ago I sent those calipers out to get reground. The company was very polite, and said it wasn't worth it because the repair would cost more than a new set. I told them I really appreciated their honesty, but these are very sentimental to me and I'd still like them fixed. They fixed them up nice, and I still use them to this day. Can't beat that Mitutoyo quality, and your most trusted tools will become sentimental to you.
That is so cool that you both got to do that tour. Thanks for bringing it to us. So awesome to see that much automation. Most people have no idea how complex of a process it is to bring them the off the shelf products. Down to the little eye rings on their shoes for the laces. Nearly everything we have on us daily goes through the manufacturing process. Much love and gratitude
Most of my measurement equipment is mitotoyo. They are definately one of the best. Also this video is much better than the hyper click baity over enthusiastic stuff that has been pumped out lately. Just being honest.
Rated R content on youtube again guys! Im actually sad this is just 12 minutes long but you gave us a glimps into whats going on at Mitutoyo. Much love for the effort! Hope you had an epic time over in Japan. And heck thats one clean as heck and organized shop, as impressive as i imagined :|
@@TITANSofCNC Yeah a 2 hour video in one piece wouldnt be the best option i assume but hey. Im happy to suck in every tiny bit you guys put out, awesome piece of work there again. MUCH appreciated!
I remember visiting the Utsunomia factory when I worked at Mitutoyo. I was especially impressed by the 10-meter underground scale factory where the ultra-high precision scales were manufactured.
And, here i am, thinking about finally retiring my 150mm IP67 Mitutoyo caliper, after 5,5 years of daily use in a job shop... It has it quirks, few dings, but i still use it every day, even though i know that in some ways it measures 0,02-0,04mm off and is getting a little worn and a bit looser in the 0-50mm range... I can get a new one any time i want, but it gained some sentimental value for me, it was the first caliper i got, i learned everything i know as a CNC machinist today with this caliper in my hand: setups, tooling, programming, 3axis, 5axis, lathes... Its hard to move on and get a shiny new one...
What can I say, simply AWESOME!!!! Thanks for sharing this vlog. I always geek out when seeing how things are made and the machines and processes that make those things. Thank you very much!!!

I loved the Mitutoyo instruments the first time I used them in the metrology practices at university. They were pretty amazing to use. Today I have been gifted with a fantastic tour of the manufacturing process. It is so automated and efficient that it seems easy, when in reality there is a lot of experience and hard work behind. I really appreciate that masters at their work are recognized by the company as shown in the video.
All my precious measurement tools were Miutoyo purchased 45 years ago and used them every working day for 30 years and continue to use them to this day. My most used tool is my mechanical digital dial caliper and the mics were only used to do the final precision check. Some of the boxes are worn out but all the instruments work just as good today as they did 45 years ago.
This video is 10/10. The enthusiastic, concise and educational presenting by Tyson and Travis, the filming of the processes and giving us a broader sense of the manufacturing scale and the editing to make it all come together and make sense while keeping the video moving at a solid pace. Also can't forget the real star(s) of the show: Japan, Mitutoyo, the machines and the HUMANS! Just perfect.
That part kit system at 5:20 is used in quite a lot of assembly lines. Rolls Royce had (possibly still have) a job role that was just bulding the parts kits for the assembly techs.

I, as a German CNC-specialist apprentice, am wondering how it came to be, that in a Japanese Factory they use "Meister" (German word for Master/Teacher) instead of a own Japanese Word.
Japanese people actually use many German words, especially in literature for example, they sometimes borrow other things from Germans too like from their culture and stuff like that.
There are many RUclips videos that explain this stuff, it's because of history and also because of how similar their cultures are in some ways. When you watch some fantasy anime for example, they use German words for spells, it's quite funny sometimes.
@@DolezalPetr i see, but from anime (where just some words get used out of context to have something that sounds cool) to a prefectly used word which is in use XX Years... thats kinda cool
