Remember, a mantra of entrepreneurship is, "fail early and often." Failure, although disappointing, only moves you on to your next iteration, which will eventually help you reach your intended goal. Thanks for helping us by sharing your struggles as you move upward. Hopefully, by now, you are thriving.
This is great! I've been "posing" as a bookkeeper for 8 years now and with no formal training or courses. All learned hands on. It feels wrong to call myself a bookkeeper but here I am doing the work without the title 🤣 Great words of advice here!
But someone (and then others) had confidence in you to undertake the managing of their bookkeeping work, and took you on. Longevity of time proves whether you are competent, and 8 years is a very long time.
I invite people who can work with me on commission basis. You just need to bring clients and my team will do rest of the bookkeeping work. You will get assured commission into your account.
I dont understand , if you are doiing the work and you are getting paid for it dont think too much
@@nickstrapko7549 I just didnt realize that what I was doing was actual bookkeeping because it was disguised under the title of "Administrative Assistant"
@@penninator1 you said it Penny!!!!!
My title is Administrative assistant at a college and I do everything in budgeting. So I’m doing bookkeeping in disguise 🤦🏽♀️☺️
🎉😮😊You didn’t fail! Those businesses failed for their own reasons. Thank you 🙏🏾 for being so REALISTIC & transparent about this career field. It feels good to know I’m not the only one who feels imposter syndrome. 🎉
This video was sooo timely for me! I have experienced EVERYTHING. You have spoken about. Thank God for you 🙏🙏🙏 I'm getting back on it and give myself grace and having patience
Love the honesty. I’m a staff accountant & about to graduate with my masters & I still have a imposter syndrome. 😆 You’re doing great! Can’t wait to see how far you come in a few year.
It's so crazy that that feeling hits us all! Thank you so much :)
Wow your masters! Congrats! Can't believe you also struggle with imposter syndrome. It's comforting to know we all struggle with it and it gives me the strength to push through.
LOVE YOUR VIDEO!! Thank you for your honesty. Just got to the end of this video. Really love the REALLY REAL Videos you have. Will be watching more of them!
You did not~~failed!! Having knowledge and got experience is most value!! You can do better from this point. Believe in yourself like you did before. Will cheer for you on your RUclips all the time!!^^
Thank you for sharing your journey. It’s very refreshing to see a mother, small business owner, and content creator being open and honest because it can be overwhelming to jungle and manage! But I’m so glad you found your second wind and attracted those amazing opportunities. Can’t wait to hear more! 👏🏽🎉
Thank you so much for your kind comment and watching my journey :)
So needed to hear this today! Two weeks in with a new company in bookkeeping position and the struggle with imposter syndrome is really. I'm trying to stay optimistic and give myself some grace. You're right...this is just another chapter in my life that I will get through and be better and stronger because of it. Good luck to both of us on our journey!
I'm so happy this video was comforting in some way! We can do this :)
This is the encouragement a lot of us need. I am a new bookkeeper considering sharing my journey as well. I have found all of your videos extremely helpful. I hope that you are considering continuing.
I invite people who can work with me on commission basis. You just need to bring clients and my team will do rest of the bookkeeping work. You will get assured commission into your account.
Thank you for the video. I started my bookkeeping business while I was working full-time in January 2019. I was only setting up and trying to take it slow to make sure that I was ready for clients. Well, in January of 2021 I was let go of my bookkeeping job and two months later, I received a referral. Like you, I eventually lost my clients in March of 2022. I am now restarting and this time, I am stepping into my role with the confidence I should have had before because I did take the program and I had years of experience. I admire the fact that you didn't have the experience and you boldly approached it. CONGRATULATIONS! and thank you again. All the verst best to you.
Hi . If you need some assistance perhaps please link me. I would like to build up my experience so Im open to assisting from scratch. Let me know.
You're a real one...I just started to wonder about bookkeeping just days ago because of a Facebook ad. It's so good to get your perspective.
This was the first video of your's that I watched and I was hooked. I feel like I am in the same boat as you and now I am watching all your videos. I love your honesty and how straight forward without a sales pitch you are. Thank you
No sales pitch - ever. I'm so happy that my honesty was helpful for you!
This is the most transparent video that I've seen because I felt like this with my credit business. Thank you sooo much for giving me a second wind.
Of course! I'm glad my video was helpful!
Great video. Congratulations. I'm just seeing this video and you have come along way. (I've seen your up to videos). your doing great!
Great to have you back 😎
I saw the title of the video n got scared🤦🏾♂️
Just started following and watching your vids on bookkeeping.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge🙏🏾❤
Great video! Thanks for being so honest about yourself!
thank you for shearing your story,
im glad you are doing well and i know you will keep it up, I have to get more experince before I start my bookkeeping business.
Thank you for sharing this video and for your honesty. It's good to have you back
Thank you so much :)
Thanks for sharing. Your enthusiasm is infectious. I smile everytime I watch one of your videos.
I wouldn't say you failed, you just happened to lose all your clients around the same time and didnt have consistent marketing efforts in place to bring new clients in asap. As someone who did take the Bookkeeper Launch course, graduated in March, and still hasnt found that first client, you are kicking booty lady. Just keep going! I'm having to remind myself to stay on top of marketing because it's a numbers game, not a failure.
That's such a positive response to what felt like failure. I appreciate your perspective more than you could know. You're right - consistent marketing is very crucial to keeping a regular amount of clients. I'll try to keep you updated as I continue my marketing!
Have you completed the bonus Linked In section in BL? I didn’t even see it until lately.
I agree
I invite people who can work with me on commission basis. You just need to bring clients and my team will do rest of the bookkeeping work. You will get assured commission into your account.
I see that your comment was posted 1 year ago & I want to ask if you have taken on clients for bookkeeping. I'm gathering all the info & feedback I can before I save enough to invest in my next endeavor. After a long layoff period I told myself that I would get trained in something so that I could have some modicum of control over my income stability. Bookkeeping has piqued my interest. I have a day job now and as soon as I am financially able I am leaning toward Booming Bookkeeping or Bookkeeper Launch. $2K or $3K investment. I would really appreciate your input and information of what has been your experience.
I'm a senior bookkeeper for a music & entertainment firm and I'm in a similar boat working to learn more by bookkeeping my friends small collectibles business. I would recommend trying to get connected with small influencers/youtubers/twitch streamers that are starting to grow and make some real money that may need help. You did not fail. You got more guts than many of us. I have been wanting to start a youtube of my journey through everything u want to do and i can't even get started.
I apologize for such a delay in my response to you - but thank you for the encouragement! RUclips creation has been a journey ALL on it's own, but it has been rewarding in ways I didn't imagine, so if you have the motivation - go for it! Great idea for lead generation, thank you!
Blessings have your name written on them! Thanks so much for sharing real honest life, & the ups & downs we as ppl don’t normally see on social media, God is using you & as a beginner myself in a Quickbooks class I feel rushed & overwhelmed don’t want to make mistakes ect…but I know it’s about taking control having confidence committing as you have said in a previous video . I teach myself as much as I can & can’t wait to get hands on with the real bookkeeping world . I’m so lost on where to start once I take this test next week. But Good Luck with everything I’m so happy I found your channel it’s motivating! Keep going & teaching , teaching is definitely a gift you have.
Tia, you are so kind! Thank you for your comment! I hope the test went well; any clients yet??
I appreciate the transparency. I am still dealing with imposter syndrome.
I totally and completely understand. I think until you're really IN it and doing the work, you'll always feel that "I don't think I can do this" emotion. Best of luck to you!
there is something hiding half your face in your picture.
Thank you for being open and sharing. You didn't fail. You learned a lot. Trying something and being a millionaire right away isn't realistic. The nice thing about taking a bookkeeping course like 60 day bookkeeper is you learn all the business aspect of running a business. Doing bookkeeping and running a bookkeeping business are 2 different things. Courses like these help you learn all the backoffice and actual bookkeeping. I learned how to manage my business and work on multiple clients and how to be consistent on looking for my next client even when I was full. I also hired a mentor to bounce ideas off when I got scared. Good luck! Prayers and best wishes.
This is such a wonderful comment on your experience with starting your business! Thank you!

I agree.Im just starting my bookkeeping business and want to know about vulnerabilitiies and how to get past thay!!!!
I agree that the second wind after being overwhelmed or perceived failure gives a much stronger foundation and sight to go forward.
If you truly love what you do, then it does not matter what others think. We go through life worrying about this "imposter syndrome" when in reality it is all a made up notion by us. Be confident in what you can do...and in how you can help people. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for being brave and sharing your personal experience. Update for 14:00 - Wow, that's great that you have someone training you for a long-term bookkeeping opportunity!

congratulations in this new journey!! 😊
So so happy you are back. I throughly enjoy your videos. I know as a mom, running a business you probably don't have much extra time, but wanted to say I'm starting my business on July 15th. Been doing so much to "be ready". I have 4 of my own children that I homeschool so I get be so busy. We are from the Prince Edward County area in VA. If you ever want to meet up and talk goals and business please let me know. I've been wanting to reach out for a while but wasn't sure how. Lol
Oh my goodness - congratulations! You're going to do great (and sometimes you won't, but that's okay)! I'm so glad you did reach out! I'm going to be trying to form a community of first-time bookkeepers to talk about their experiences soon, so I'll keep you in mind!
Thanks for being transparent and sharing your journey.
Always!
Thank you for your honesty🙏🏽
Im so glad I came across this video. I’ve been a bookkeeper for 15 years but have been trying (and failing!) for the last 3 years to do it on my own as a business owner. My biggest struggle is also marketing and getting clients so this really spoke to me. Thanks for the encouragement. 😊
Thanks for sharing and GOOD LUCK!
Thank you :)
Congratulations on your new clients. I think mentorship is a key specially when you start a virtual business. I joined a mentorship program when I started my firm back in April and I think without it I would have quit long time ago and would haven’t got the opportunities I got. Having a community of like minded people who have the same goals and same type of business makes a difference. I will be happy to share the information with you if you are interested. Watching the free RUclipss alone gives a lot of information.
Thank you for making your videos I was a follower from my personal account since your first video 🙂keep going
Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement! Please do share that information - I know there are plenty of watchers that would benefit from an opportunity like that!
@@RealisticBookkeeping Here is her program information, and here is her youtube channel ruclips.net/channel/UCz7uYYBPyfE-Oe1L-iuwuBQ
I appreciate your honesty. I failed on my business too. I have given up on it. I never even got one client. Unfortunately I had bought a program that did not work for me. I felt so bad that i list that money. I realised it too late how hard it is to do bookkeeping if you are international.
I'm so sorry to hear that :( I'm thinking of trying to get a collab with an international bookkeeper so there's some insight on how to succeed online/virtually.
Love the honesty and excited for more videos🌸
Yay! Thank you!
I think that part of the reason for your failed business could be attributed to timing. You started your business in the middle of a pandemic. It would be pretty hard to get clients especially when small business owners are trying to make cutbacks. Hang in there! We are more than half way through 2021. I am pretty sure that business in 2022 is gonna be booming.
I really appreciate your perspective! Thank you for your kind comment
Thank you so much for sharing your honest point of view. I wouldn't say you failed. I would say you did the best you knew and learned what not to do. As a student of a bookkeeping course (60 day bookkeeper and ambitious bookkeeper) we were taught to always be marketing. Don't give up your efforts when full. Clients come and go. That's business. As far as time consuming- set boundaries and be consistent. I make $5k plus with maybe 20 hours per week. It wasn't that way in the beginning but I set workflows. I hope you learn from your experiences and keep going!
I love this perspective - thank you! I've made a lot of advancements in the last several months, so I hope to keep everyone updated on what my business looks like now compared to then!
What’s the course I’m thinking of getting into this.

I have learnt alot from your journey to being a bookkeeper as i plan to do this job in future so please share us whatever you will learn and eveything about that job thanks
I am so happy my channel has been helpful to you! I'll keep posting as much as I can :)
I love your channel it is so close to where I am
I'm so happy that my perspective and experience is helpful to you!
Imposter Syndrome is no joke, I totally get you. Also love the honesty. Can't wait to see you grow.
Thank you for your kind words! I don't know if imposter syndrome every really goes away, but experience can only help!
I found your channel tonight, and I'm loving the videos so far. I used to be a high school math teacher, but have been a stay at home mom for the last 10 years. My youngest will be in kindergarten in a few years and I want to find something I can do from home to earn an income once she is in school. I'm hoping I can start slowly and build over time. Thanks for sharing your experiences, I look forward to watching more :)
Thank you so much for your comment! I hope your journey is going well!
I just read your comment on this thread, and this is just a suggestion and apologise if you have already considered it/done it. Have you thought about setting up a private maths tutorial service from home (one-to-one tutorials, etc? There may be a market in your area. Just a suggestion, though.
@@sergioalmasy8722 thank you for the suggestion! I do tutoring math students, and it is great money for an hour's work! But it is always in the afternoon/evening and takes time away from my family, so I'm trying to find something I can do during the day while the kids are in school.
@@laurareddington1632 Thanks for your reply, Laura! I suspected that you may have at least considered, hence I mentioned this possibility in my previous comment and apologised accordingly. I just sort of thought an idea.
Thanks for updating. Yes, I suppose home tutoring would be during evenings and weekends! Not really a daytime activity when your client students are actually at school!
Super to hear that you have indeed done the tutoring, after all. It's a very noble service.
Yeah I started my firm last year and had one client, my boyfriend joined me (now he’s my husband) and started from scratch. It is definitely hard. I was able to have him code transactions while I spoke with the clients and continued with marketing literally for over 6 months straight. My clients were mostly from people reaching out but I ended up joining a contracting website that takes a cut of my pay to stay afloat. You really have to be consistent with marketing because you never know. I did lose a couple clients in unexpectantly too. I appreciate your honesty!!!
I would be so interested in how that outsourcing worked for you! I think a lot of people wonder what that transition is like (doing ALL the bookkeeping work yourself to entrusting others to do a lot of it for you)!
@@RealisticBookkeeping yeahhh I work with a team out of India and they proposed that to me but I’m not 100% sure how and if I want to do that haha! Would be something to try but I need to have own system and expectations down since my name would be on the work still.
I think failure would have been losing clients for not doing the job. The business didnt work out and that is different than a failure. It's an opportunity to regroup and either recommit or commit to something else.
Thank you for sharing this, it had to have been hard for you. You being real about the bookkeeping biz helps so many like myself who are looking into this as a new career.
thank you for the video
You're doing great! Keep going. I'm starting my bookkeeping business, working full time and trying to manage my totally unrelated RUclips channel all at the same time, and marketing is key. It's just so hard to keep up on it. My husband has a lawn keeping business as well, so we're traveling on very similar roads. But we can do it!
Wow! I love your renovated RV (had to check out your channel)! I hope your bookkeeping business goes well!
@@RealisticBookkeeping Thank you so much! I will continue to watch your journey. I know you'll be overwhelmed with business soon.
Thanks so much for the video. I just finished Chic Boutique which you recommended. I am excited to see what you learn from these new clients. I am still in the early stages of building my bookkeeping business- practicing on myself and my cousin in quickbooks. 🙂
That's awesome! I am planning on making a "tutorial" video soon on using QuickBooks to manage your bookkeeping business as practice :) let me know what you think when it's posted!
Nice video!
Finally, someone said it The real truth about business.
Hi mind telling us how much you were charging the restaraunt given the volume of transactions they process on a daily basis
I am here for the long haul!
You can't imagine how wonderful your support is! Thank you!
Hi.nice videos. Well i am a qualified chartered accountant and have worked in public practice but now retraining to become maths teacher,so opposite of your career path. I am just interested to get some information about your previous qualification in maths and which years were you teaching. Thanks.
Well are you still teaching or back to book keeping ? I picked up a county farm also. Imposter syndrome is a real thing. It’s easy to feel that way about a lot when the separation from helping a friend to becoming a business asset. Separating the worth from the alms.
Here's what starting up new is like:
1) you're at the Grand Canyon - on solid ground. Everything is familiar: what you're doing, why, and what the next day looks like
2) there is a walkway across the canyon; you step onto it. You walk halfway across (don't look down)
3) the park workers start working on the step-on point of the walkway, and the step-off point
4) you are now on 100% unfamiliar ground:
- what does tomorrow look like?
- why on earth did I step onto the platform?
- I'm in a situation that is 100% not familiar
What you learn is something everyone has: "creature of habit" of daily behaviors on autopilot. Turn off the autopilot and attain the 'stranded' feeling out in the middle of the canyon, on the 'no-longer-connected' walkway and very much of life is new.
Most of us, if we're going to introduce new stuff, do it incrementally. Too much change is a PITA (this is why moving has the sort of 'unhappy' or 'unappreciated' vibe).
So, there is something called 'grit' where you're out on the walkway, and you say "fine, I have faith the workers will finish and re-connect the walkway to solid ground again at both ends and until then, I'm staying busy with new stuff"
The magnitude of 'grit' you need probably varies depending on how big an effort. I just read the story of Tito Beveridge, founder of "Tito's Vodka". In 1997 with no business degree, and a background as geophysicist and mortgage broker jobs, and zero distillery know-how, he taught himself how to make vodka. His networth in 2024 is *_six billion dollars_*
I know what kind of suffering and wondering and anxiety about the future this dude went through. Talk about a bunch of shortcomings. "I don't know how to make vodka, I don't know anything about business, let me teach myself to make vodka and sell it"
I don't know about you, but I have an endless tape recording "is my income consistent to pay for everything" that puts a check on 'grit.'
But I still did it. I haven't had a corporate job in over 20 years, and have done well.
But wow, not easy. The 'grit' part can be learned. The article I read is "Bert Beveridge" in Forbes, and the date at the top of the article says
Bert Beveridge
$6.2B
Real Time Net Worth
as of 6/6/24
#489 in the world today
I think you just have to do it and have faith the workers will re-attach the walkway.
.
Thank you for making this video!❤
No problem!
so you took a short hiatus, and now you're back, hopefully for good - however there have not been any newly-posted videos as of late - so i hope you're still out there and still at it, and that we'll see some new videos soon
What if you got certified, do you think it would help?
Do not worry
A good accountant will always have
work over head.
The decline of the market and the economy due to the idiotic pandemic
which it is not
is the past.
Clients will come one after another and you just do good and honest and don't worry about anything !!
Most people do not try anything. You did, that is not failure, you just did not succeed like you wanted this time :)
Thank you so much for your kind comment :)
If you personally are doing the bookkeeping then is a job and not a business, because it is not scalable in any meaningful sense. Anything that makes you stop marketing because you are too busy doing existing clients is not scalable and probably won't make you rich any time soon. Or maybe it is necessary to know when and how to start hiring assistants and other bookkeepers to make it scalable. NEVER STOP MARKETING
I wondered where you'd gone! I agree with the others - you didn't "fail", you just lost clients. And even if you viewed it as a failure, well there isn't a successful person alive who hasn't failed at some point. It's the getting back up on the horse that matters. Good to have you back.
This is so kind - thank you so much for your comment and your support! I'm glad to be back and more confident :)
@@RealisticBookkeeping You're very welcome :)
I would buy the $3 of your Bookkeeping Business outside your Country so kindly suggest a suitable plan

I truly, truly appreciate your support!
Do you think that bookkeeping will completely disappear in the future, please help me to find an answer for this question, I am an accounting student and I am scared from that
No I follow another Good You tuber and Bookeeper named Morgan law Her Channel is called Fine points. In one of Her videos she was taking about this same Subject. Her Response was on point it was Many Buisness are Popping up and The more small buisness will need Your Service so no I dont think that Bookeeping is dead, there will always be a Need for our work.

F.A.I.L = First Attempt In Learning
I do taxes and booking business I reached 57 clients
Congrats. I am on third month and yet to secure a single client. Still pushing on.
but do you think if you would have taken those courses that you wouldnt have failed?
I love that you posed this question! Realistically, I have no idea of knowing. However, talking to people that have taken some form of online bookkeeping course, I understand that the biggest challenge for bookkeepers is landing clients. And my main issue was that I landed clients that happened to not continue to need bookkeeping services. That’s completely unrelated to whether I took a course. I think it was part circumstantial and part because I was emotional unmotivated. But who knows? Thank you for asking ❤️
I was wondering the same. I know marketing can be a huge part of those course. If done right it generates a lot of leads/business.
0:14 That is Freaky how she predicted my actions...
ask anyone who works OUTSIDE in Summertime, about what "exhausting" REALLY means! :-) heyyy...it gets BETTER!! buona fortuna...
I wouldn't say you failed either, have to agree maybe not enough marketing. A lot of smaller businesses who may need your services more likely will start flourishing once again now that Covid restrictions are lifting more. I think that this is just the beginning for you 😉
That's so true! Thank you for your kind words :)
How's it going these days?
Remember the only time you failed is when you stop
You said BK Launch was more about business and marketing in another video? Don't you think that could've helped you not "fail"? You seem to down them, but maybe it could've helped...
You know, if I'm being honest, I don't know if BL could have helped me in my specific situation. What I do know is that I didn't have the money to invest in a course of that nature; and what I know now (several months after filming this video) is that I am more successful than I could have ever thought and I still have not taken a course like BL. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to answer this question for other viewers that possibly wonder the same thing :)
have children start family
Mantras, affirmations, imposter syndrome, motivation: all bullshit. You get up, figure out what to do, do it, get a result. Then either stay the course or make changes. Repeat. Of course, you can quit at any time. you chose to quit. No one did for you or to you. You did it to yourself. Nice video, though.. Enjoyable.
Soooo, you failed because you you were no longer beat?
Overpriced! You can find same training or better for under $100 or free!
Typical woman
I recommend that you have a listing in the QuickBooks Pro Advisor directory. I have like 14 reviews in mine with mostly great ratings. It's sorted by zip code, and it really does act as a legit sales funnel because those visitors to the site are serious about getting organized with their books and some might be users already being rerouted to your listing as a local, help source from inside their QuickBooks. Of course, it helps to fulfill the testing process but all study materials are free in QBOA. I also recommend partnering with Gusto for payroll, especially if you live in a remote location. I hope you will have access to higher paying clients through remote work and Gusto and QuickBooks can be a source for this connection. I don't mean any offense to Church networking which is a huge flex but how long you waited for it to turnout is very risky; scared me. Reaching out to othe CPA firms is critical and local attorney offices and local payroll agents. In fact, business to business marketing has sustained my bookkeeping practice for nearly 15 years, not focusing on the actual business owners UNTIL you gain expertise in a niche. Let me know if you need specifics on QBOA and we'll connect!
