I think there may be more to it than you mention. With my own email address, everything *before* the @ is "don't care". I can change it with every email I send if I wish. But everything *after* the @ comprises my *account name* PLUS my ISP identity (separated by a period). Obviously this cannot be changed (without abandoning my account). Also I think it's worth noting that an email address may contain CAPITAL letters and also numera1s.
