- This video reviews Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse. There are 33 playable races for the dungeons & dragons 5e roleplaying game. This is a monster book with 250+ creatures, beasts, monsters, demons and devils. The pros and cons of the books, layout, formatting, art, maps and indexing. This is just my personal opinion based on what I see as important to dungeon masters. #4k

I'm glad I have the other two books.
They will be high demand in the future.
I got them pretty cheap after this book came out. @@HowtoRPG
Got Volo's but is tome of foes really worth it for the £40 price asked on amazon?
£30 perhaps.
Indeed.
I bought them just because this book was going to be released.
I didn't buy this book.
Got this book as a gift for my birthday (well I will be getting it soon). I'm a newer DM with a collection of a few sourcebooks. I have Volo's but not the other book that was mentioned so I'm sure I'll still garner some value from this book. Definitely glad I found your review first though as to avoid the disappointment of seeing essentially all of Volo's monsters a second time. That would have had me miffed 😆 Certainly glad I didn't spend my own money on it!
I am happy I could help.
Having all three is actually something I found to be beneficial. Some of the things they added/replaced inspired me with my homebrew and allowed me to be more creative with making abilities. It's gone a long way to impress/surprise my players, 3-4 out of the 5 being avid sourcebook readers so usinh RAW rarely surprises them.
Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts.
I used to say long before the publishing of this book that I wanted compilation books: (1) Spells + Magic Items + Familiars, (2) Monsters, Races and Beasts, (3) Classes and subclasses.
This is the closest we have got in that aspect and I was excited for it, however, they dropped the ball so hard on the new race design. I hate so much that they stripped away their ASI and movement speeds, and all they innate casting work with any mental stat of their choice. That reduces about 50% of what makes each race different, we are only left with a few features and a lot of them are just natural weapons.
Edit: I kinda like the new monster design tho, makes them way easier to handle out of the book without a previous night of preparation.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The monster design is from D&D 4E.
Yea, you have plenty of player races but all it a same, +2 to any ability nad +1 other. :D, and darkvision of course :D
Yep. 😆
Nice review
Glad I didn’t waste my money on that book. Nothing like a cash grab. I guess that’s what WotC is going for now. I don’t think I’ll be buy anything from them anymore
Thanks for watching rivers.
Everything is online for free use, no reason to spend money on WotC
Yeah have you noticed that a bunch of stories got made with a multiverse plot in response to the avengers introducing the multiverse?
Yes I did.
I would've liked options. Like a Kobolds progression.
Fair enough. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
@@HowtoRPGI hope the new books this year actually brings new things to 5e.
@@xiongray It's alright if WotC doesn't. I will make new stuff that is good.
Ahh I like your reviews *clicks*!
lol. Thanks 😊
I had my hopes up for this one. I always find lore and monster books a better read than player option books. What a let down
I agree 👍
White background is a plus though
Falls in place
So glad I did not buy this book. And we are going to get a new MM in February 2025 that will be boosted to the same level as the power creep that comes with the 2024 Players Handbook. That should make them probably up there with the Kobold Press Tome of Beast 1 (first printing with all those crazy CR jumps) monsters.
Let's hope so.
This book was a pure cash grab.
Absolutely.
Sad that it's a cash grab. I play a Genasi and I was hoping there'd be a WHOLE slew of cool new stuff I could do in our current campaign. Thanks for the solid review
@@Japhala_Aether_Gwangwa You are welcome.
