I loved Zone of the Enders on the GBA, came out when I was a freshman in high school and I couldn’t put it down. It’s a series I’ve always thought deserved more.
Same, I absolutely loved that game. It randomly came up with a friend not long after I first met them, he brought it up and we both randomly discussed about how much we loved it lol
I actually really like Crystal Bearers, the game has a ton of charm, memorable characters and fun (and often funny) battles. It's just... sadly, really short
@@UNSTABLE111 I got about 20 hours on my first run, but I also went out if my way to explore. If you wanted to only to the main story and nothing else it would probably be about 10, but there is a lot of optional content in the game, some I didn't find til a second playthough
Virtua Quest was one of my favorite games as a kid since I was sooo into the virtua fighter anime at the time. it really was a diamond in the rough and will always have a special place in my heart!
Oh hey I really like Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers! It is not really an rpg, more like an adventure/action game spinoff, but it has a very unique atmosphere. Anyway I have to take a look at the Dokapon, Magic Pengel, Inindo, Sorcerer's Kingdom and Dungeon Maker from this list. Maybe some of these games do not deserve to be fully forgotten just yet.
i actually really like the zone of the enders gba game. my first game from the series. but then again i do read visual novels, some even with strategy gameplay, so this game sat well with me.
I LOVED Magic Pengel. The music was good, and the mechanics were simple enough for me to turn off my brain on Saturdays and get some gameplay in. I loved that they went all in with the wackiness when it came to some of the moves your Doodle could do, like dropping a goddamn FRYING PAN on an opponent's head to stun them.
Hey, Key of Heaven was actually a really good game. You could build your own combos to use on enemies, and when they were defeated they could drop moves that you could add to existing combos. Iirc, there was this combo of legendary sanyu'an moves that had passed from human knowledge that you construct over the entire adventure. Seeing as how you've clearly misjudged KoH, it makes me wonder what else on this list you've misjudged. All I'm saying is, those that have played KoH (to the end) care about it a lot, and those that don't care definitely haven't played it, which is probably true of everything else on this list. Not a good video
I remember when Virtua Quest first released. The stores in my area didnt even bother to carry the Gamecube version. I had to buy it from Ebay. Really wish the game got a sequel or that Sei at least popped up in PxZ though. Kingdom of Paradise had a lot of potential thanks to its setting. Its honestly probably the one PSP game I go to these days other than Dissidia.
To be fair, this Zone of the Enders GBA game appealed to me as a fan of the Super Robot Wars games. If you look back to the GBA titles of that series, you can see a clear similarity. I actually really liked how unique it was with the hit and dodge aspects, but it just made the overall game draggy, compared to quick, direct numbers.
Had to comment when I saw Kingdom of Paradise in the thumbnail. My mom got it for me thinking it was Kingdom Hearts. Ended up becoming my and my cousins' favorite game on the psp.
My "best" memory of Shadow Tower was getting a pirated japanese copy when I was younger. The japanese voices sounded terrifying, and the cover read SNADOW TOWER. It also has a sequel, which is just more of the same.
@@bustergundo516 Nope. Not only it's one of those "where do I go" games, it's also one of those "gotta watch out for my equipment breaking" ones. These annoyances were too much for a 13-year old kid, not to mention the language barrier.
master of the monster lair is awesome, the gameplay loop of building rooms so you can go farm the mobs they attract so that you can get better gear, build more rooms and progress deeper as you find more floors is great.
The Graffiti Kingdom disrespect, LOL, that game is actually pretty okay, I'd say it's worth a playthrough for the creature creation feature, it's not that long to boot. Also, Graffiti Kingdom itself is getting a mobile reboot in japan and (if i remember correctly) a spin-off movie with Crayon Shin-Chan! Hopefully more people can give it some love in the future
Hot-B is a publisher who has been around for a long time. They published Black Bass and Super Black bass for the NES and SNES. These are the only two I have that was published by them.
8:41 HOT B, oh yes. They published Hoshi wo Miru Hito for the Famicom. But anyway, Graffiti Kingdom is actually kind of fun. It has some fans. It's like Spore but more RPG. Also, I see you're a man of culture, for Zoids Assault you used the Zoids Legacy's battle music. 👀👍🏻
Sorcerer's Kingdom was actually one of my earliest experiences with RPGs, and I still think it's a great game. Even having played through it more recently I still think it's pretty great. If you like old-school 16-bit turn-based/tactical RPGs, you could do a lot worse than Sorcerer's Kingdom. I'd really like to see another game take it's battle system and do something cool with it, because it is kind of a unique blend of turn-based and tactical RPG mechanics.
Dokapon Monster Hunter... any relation to Dokapon Kingdom? I'm looking at the backs of the cards 6:31 to see if there is a difference between the cards like in Dokapon Kingdom. Shadow tower I watched being played. Not exactly amazing gameplay. It plays a little like King's Field so I was curious.
Inindo, a game i played as a kid, loved it but couldn't afford it. As a teen found it at a game store used and bought it. Now I have it on my snes emulator. And not one of my friends has ever seen or heard of it until I showed them lol. Rough game, I never beat it.
The speedrun of Sorcerer's Kingdom is actually kind of interesting. I also didn't realize how niche/obscure that game is until I looked up the leaderboards and realized that the speedrunner I watched play this is one of only two people.
Square-Enix is working on making their earlier titles more accessible on newer platforms. If they go with Dawn of Mana, the battle system and upgrade mechanic needs a COMPLETE overhaul. As I recall, the reset of the progression system was a design choice that did not sit well with reviewers or gamers (like myself) alike.
Graffiti Kingdom is one of m favorite PS2 games. It wasn't released in germany, so I had to import it, but there was actually a PAL version released in Australia, which, to my surprise, had german subtitles, which weren't there in the NTSC release of the game I played *totally legally* before, lol xD. I even Let's Played it in 2012, but deleted most of my videos in 2015 cause I hated my commentary back then. In the end of 2018 started anew. It's on the list again, want to make it good this time.
Even when Eric didn't like it, I'm kind of happy to see Zone of the Enders The Fist of Mars here. I still keep my cartridge with love. Wouldn't say it's a hidden gem, sadly the game is kind of basic and easy, but it has a great story structured as an anime with 25 chapters, with really well constructed and memorable characters. Perhaps is an adquired taste, but I still love that game.

Shadow Tower and the King's Fields games _"appeal"_ is their difficulty, old style of _"make your own maps on paper"_ and slow grind to become powerful enough just to survive. All of those predecessors of the Souls formulae. Sure... They are slow paced, wildly unrewarding and difficult just for the sake of difficulty as all heck... But nothing beats the satisfaction of acquiring the ultimate versions of all spells in King's Field 1 (USA) and decimating everything that gave you a hard time before or finally finding the route to that _"out of reach"_ item/weapon/chest that has been teasing you for hours.

The battle system of sorceress kingdom reminded me the gameplay of the "The Awakened Fate Ultimatum." Is that how it works?
Played through Shadow Tower completely back in the day. It is very atmospheric, unsettling and just plain weird. Very much just like King's Field, just not as good. Still did enjoy it though
I used to really enjoy sorcerers kingdom back in the day. But thinking about back then, my local video store had only a small variety of games for rent and this was the only rpg. So to get my rpg fix it was either this game or nothing lol. I still see this game through rose colored glasses though.
