    If Zesteria is the weakest link in the Tales franchise, that just speaks to how good the overall quality of the Tales series is.

    You misunderstand the "hatred" for Kingdom Hearts 3. It's not so much the complicated lore, that's a problem with pretty much every entry of the series. A lot of people just thought it was too easy, had a problem with the lack of FF characters, and may have felt it wasn't worth the long wait. Although the reception is actually very mixed.

    • @AFriendRemembers
      @AFriendRemembers 3 года назад +29

      I'd agree with this. It's not that KH3 has complicated lore - its that it does nothing with it. Every aspect of KH3 is just revisiting a best of all the previous stories - it barely moves anyone or anything forwards at all. KH1 and 2 and all of those spin offs had something original in them but KH3 had nothing new to offer
      Also - dislike Fates intensely but i thought Fire Emblem 3 houses was a marked step up

      Kh3 also has the worst story. Most characters are water down and written like they are to dumb and need sora to rush in a save them. Important character moments thrown to the way side to prop up sora. And overall the worlds were boring and have no impact on story.

      It literally didn't explain any plot for 18 hours, then gave you 2-4 hours of the final sequence of the game.
      A character literally is confused about who all these people are... and we get no answers. I knew the past games and was disappointed not even to see a refresher to be nice. Not to mention the gameplay was the most simplistic at base.
      Sora had fewer abilities then KH2 meaning he felt weaker, this was "remedied" by forms but in turn you'd spend fights feeling weak/slow only to become powerful for 30 seconds.
      Meanwhile while visiting Disney worlds an rather common occurrence was "Use this power which completely stops Sora so the Disney plot can unfold the exact same way." going so far as even having the Electric Bad creating an Ice Dungeon.

    The Final Fantasy XIII trilogy is soooo underrated it's actually infuriating. The hate mostly comes from the fact that back in 2010, many players wanted an open world FF game, but XIII is linear in its first half. Retrospectively, the three games are really good. XIII-2 especially was amazing, and it still has one of the best JRPG soundtracks of all time along with Persona 5.

Star Ocean 4 just had so extremely awful character designs, boring exploration in boring designed environments/planets and a really lame uninteresting story and Star Ocean 5 had at least a bit better character designs in my opinion but it was extremely low budget because the predecessor was such a commercial failure and so with the budget restrictions it had very little content and a lame story too

    I will die on the hill defending FF XIII. Yes, it's extremely linear, but that's refreshing in an age of open-world everything; and IMO it's the one RPG where everyone in your party seems to dislike each other at first, slowly changing over the course of the game so when the obligatory Power of Friendship Speech comes near the end, it actually feels deserved instead of trite.

Once that tutorial ends, the game feels fantastic.

  • @jettblade
    @jettblade 3 года назад +27

    Honestly Final Fantasy 8 is one of the best in the series. All it needs is some minor changes vastly improve the gameplay. 1 expand the Magic pages so you can have at least 1 of each spell(you can count the -ra and -raga under 1 slot not their own) 2 remove the junctioned spells from your cast list or don't make stat changes during combat 3 allow players to buy spells from merchants instead of just getting them from monsters or from random spots 4 expand the combat menu to always have Items (that was the biggest BS thing they did, lock the Item action behind junctioning). All these small changes would make a huge impact on the gameplay.
    Also I will say that I really like the idea that all the side stuff in the Kingdom Hearts series actually matters in the overall plot. I however do think it could have be managed better. Kingdom Hearts 3 was disappointing because there was obvious pacing issues and difficulty of trying to piece everything together. It also had some of the worst levels designs of the series. Arendale was just a disappointment. I know that they made that level before or around the time Frozen was still in production but it was definitely poorly handled.

      Or perhaps the reality is more in the middle?
      FF8 is flawed, I think a lot of people like it or hate it due to the flaws which either make the game fun or miserable. The junction system is absolutely amazing when you abuse refine, but if you don't abuse it then fights become draw fests slowing down the game massively.
      The reality is... the game is very hit or miss and being able to abuse the system to get Squall's Ultimate Weapon at the start should show this. It is either completely broken or completely dull.
      This would've been fixed had the refine system first off been a proper part of the game and not a skill you might not unlock where it could be rewarding but also not game breaking. A way to replenish your 30 used magic when you go back to town while letting draw have use to prevent you from hitting a dead end in dungeons.
      It being a service in town would've fixed almost every issue.

      It was one of my most favorite final fantasy games as well. I loved the junction system for buffing my team, but when I discovered the non-leveling trick, the game became EVEN BETTER! To truly experience the game, you need to stay level 1 throughout most of the game until your GF's get the stat up skills, then you junction it to your character and level them individually to max out their stacks without magic junctioned. This was amazing for me and I suddenly realized this is why enemy level scaling mattered in the game, because it was designed for level 1 runs, it was designed for max stat runs, it was designed to have multiple playthroughs doing different things!

It's so shallow and, to me, just plain dumb, all the people who love to hate on anything with a moe aesthetic, or a little girl character having a high-pitched voice (this is almost universally a problem with the English dubbing; the Japanese VA for those characters always sound good to me.. it's just hilarious how many people just overtly hate a little girl character for even existing... like seriously grow up), or just being too Japanese in general... it's such a narrow, uninformed perspective. There is so, so much "good trash" about macho tough guys that goes completely unremarked on, but anything moe, eveyone has to make this big public display of denouncing. It would be hilarious if it weren't so depressing.

      I honestly thought 13 was decent but flawed... And 13-2 did fix a lot of the mechanics from 13 (but still was a sequel no one expected). Lightning Returns was just a big "Just stop embarrassing yourself already" type of thing with how much the series was drawn out.
      Also, I will never understand how people hate Vanille or Hope more than Snow. I actually like Vanille, but she was flawed. Hope seemed pointless to the story as a whole... and Snow actually made me mad. Snow is in my eyes, one of the worst video game characters, let alone the worst in all of Final Fantasy. That whole "Hooray Patrick! We saved the world!" meme could have been used for Snow given what happens in just chapter 1... That's just.... wow...
      And as one last side note, videos that showed off the beta battle system when FF13 first got announced? That's the same battle system they used for Lightning Returns. They just reworked it.

    I liked FFVIII when it came out for what it tried to do, but as time passed the flaws showed more and more. I'd really like to see another RPG done with the concept with tighter mechanics though. Apparently one of the ideas for the game when it was in early development was to eliminate spell levels and instead have a spell's power determined by how much MP you pump into it when casting. I can see how that would be easy to abuse, but so is Junctioning.

      Same. It didn't help that the only Disney I was familiar with and liked were things like Robin Hood and Sword in the Stone, and I guess also the classics from the old days, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, but those I had just watched once as a little kid, I didn't like them like I liked Robin Hood... The whole 90's period I still haven't seen most of, and just don't have interest... like the only thing I know is in the games that I actually like a lot is Nightmare Before Christmas. But yeah, the entire concept seemed utterly pointless to me... and I'm pretty sure that to a large extent the fanbase of the series is mainly female. I am also still just bitter in general about how Nomura was then, and continues to be treated like a king by upper management, at the same time as they were fucking over Yasumi Matsuno's vision for 12 so hard that he quit the company before it was finished, and the plot is a shadow of what it would have been if he had simply been given the same free hand Nomura was.... like all the shit Nomura put the company through with the XIII games, vsXIII, turning that into FFXV, which took forever to make directly because of how incompetent Nomura is, to the extent they brought in a co-director to get the damn thing done. Can you imagine what could have been if Matsuno had been given that kind of treatment while making XII? Still pisses me off. Like, is it because he has some personal ownership over the VII characters? That's the only thing that makes sense unless he is literally blowing the upper management every morning.

Rpgs in general were looked at as sort of these fun adventures with awesome stories and every time pretty FMVS come on screen we would go nuts over them. But there is a artistic representation of rpgs that I think we could not really capture when we were children. It was until we got older that we realized every tiny little detail in all of the 2d landscapes and interior designs of the world which added an immersion to the experience. Well FF VIII was looked at as sort of the black sheep of the FF series, looking back at it now, its far greater then what we initially percieved as kids. The world is gorgious with some of the most breathtaking environments and the game has some of the best music tracks that fits the theme and mood of the story and location you are in. The story is well structured with enough turns and twists to keep you satisfyed if you understand it. It was all around a great game.

      Interesting. I’ve never heard that take before. Personally, XIII is my least favorite entry in the series, but I can understand why many people like it. I’ve noticed it’s usually people who came into the series later who like it, and that makes perfect sense. My first FF was VI, and I mostly lost interest in the series after X came out because it felt like a completely different experience from all the previous titles I had played, and I wasn’t a fan. XII bored me but I didn’t hate it. I just remember very little from XII. XIII convinced me that my time with FF was over, and I’ve never played another mainline entry since.

      @Artimes. Год назад

      @@alrightsquinky7798 The FF series sort of lost alot of its DNA components for sure after FF X. FF XII was actually introduced to be one of the best written and ambitious projects and headed by Final Fantasy Tactics director Yasumi Matsuno who was responsible for FF tactics series and Vagrant story and director Hiroyuki Ito who had vast experience on the entirety of the FF franchise but alas, he bailed out very quickly and only the first introductory concept of the story was established by him, the rest was concieved by the new director consisting of Hiroshi Minagawa, while Akitoshi Kawazu of SaGa series fame became the game's executive producer.
      His record for Final Fantasy series was pretty much just the spin off like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and the FF legend series way back on the gameboy, but outside of that, he did not have near the acccreditation that Matsuno had. Coincidentally, creator of the FF series Hironobu Sakaguchi at the time refused to play past the opening act of the games story. He was pretty dissapointed by Matsuno's departure. Which is prob why the intro of the story is well executed and amazing lol, its just to be bad anything beyond that is pretty average.

      a good example is fighting Arfy 4 times (3 times if you don't include her big form) and big dad 3 times in Victory....
      The dlc is rather lame in alot of the games aswell.
      I think what people need to realize is that you can have a fun light hearted game with actual good writing and serious moments here and there.
      I love the games and know they could be WAY better than they are now.

    Fire Emblem Fates actually has pretty damn-good gameplay, I have to say, what with adding bows and magic (and the new shuriken/daggers) to the weapon triangle, and interesting new Skills like Replicate, along with the Partner Seal and Friendship Seal mechanics, and not "resetting" a character's level when changing class like Awakening did (so if the character's already over Lv. 15, they'll get their class's Skills over the next few levels, instead of having to reach 5 and 15 every single time).
    I actually like Fates more than Three Houses, since Fates doesn't have needlessly-strict restrictions like the calendar or Activity Points, and has very few gender-locked classes (even the usually female-only Pegasus Knight line was renamed to "Sky Knight" and made accessible to guys), which 3H unfortunately, and idiotically, reverted.
    Fates is just far more open than 3H, which is what I find fun.
    Saying that, though, yeah...Fates' stories aren't exactly the best, they didn't need to essentially bring back Tharja as Rhajat, Peri is a psychotic abomination who should've been executed long before she could ever hope to become Xander's retainer, and the stat drops tied to Silver weapons and stuff is utterly dumb, and the children units had no real reason to exist other than to bring back this system from Awakening, and there's no Apotheosis map to bother min-maxing for. Oh, and when the 3DS eShop inevitably shuts down most of this game's content will become inaccessible, so that sucks.

    • @Fleatingdays
      @Fleatingdays 3 года назад +1

      i would like to say i prefer things to be limited. In fact I find being able to change your units to any class to be less fun due to things like all wyverns in 3houses. In older games you get certain units and have to deal with what you have available. Theory crafting how you want to design your army can be fun, but i do love being told you just have these units and this objective get the job done.
      When you have to make choice of when where or how to use your resources. I'll condemn 3 houses for the fishing game implemented the way it is. i don't think the limitations on time is a problem in itself. Take for instance the persona games since 3. They are interesting partly due to time management. 3 houses does a decent job with its first foray into time and resource management, but would like to see it expanded.

    • @PokeMaster22222
      @PokeMaster22222 3 года назад +1

      @@Fleatingdays That whole "3H = Persona" thing is something I'll never understand, since in Persona you get to play on every single in-game day, whilst in 3H it's only Sundays, with Mondays being lectures and the rest of the week auto-skipped (so they might as well not exist).
      Why can't I at the very least explore the Monastery on Tues-Fri? Or have Seminars on those days? Complete waste of potential.
      As for "I don't like a full party of Wyvern Lords"...yeah, I agree, 3H's Certification Exams do kinda make all units blend together since (outside of those utterly stupid gender-restricted classes) all classes are available to all students, whereas the characters in Awakening and Fates had their own list of accessible classes.
      I just like how there's nowhere near as many gender-restricted classes in Fates.

    3 - Hydlide - no idea, I would have guessed this was an old arcade game like Joust
    2 - Breath of Fire 6 - Can't Say I tried it either... Love lots of the other BoF games though

    I think it'd be more accurate to narrow down the Neptunia entry to Neptunia Reverse. After Megadimension and Super Nepunia RPG were considered the best games in the series and Cyberdimension being praised for its ambition, fans were eager a continuation to mega. Instead, Reverse was announced as a "super remake" (whatever that means) of Re;Birth 1. Fans were extremely disappointed, given it's the most ported of all Neptunia games. As for what was new, there was a fishing minigame (which was also used to test out the PS5 controller's functions), puddles were added to open dungeons, an arrange mode "for experienced players" (Read: literally just regular story mode but with every character available at all times). Fan disappointment became frustration when it turned out none of the dialogue had changed in the slightest, including explicitly calling the game Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1.

I'd assume that people that struggled with the final boss did so because they only upped the difficulty at the end to get the trophy for beating the last boss on the hardest difficulty. Playing the entire game on the hardest difficulty or at least in bursts when you could would give you much better skills dropped on equipment and made you stronger more so than levelling ever would. i'll be honest, the concept of playing personalized then-current consoles was pretty clever. but unfortunately that didn't last since after the 3rd game, it just became memes, shitpost and ecchi moe crap.

      Easy and overly simple. The music is great, too.
