    Brother, to start/prime any diesel with a dry injection system, simply stretch a gasoline soaked wrag across/over the air intake and crank, it will fire better than starter fluid with no lock up. Fire it on gasoline fumes until till she takes on diesel. I am a former Alaskan diesel mechanic, and this works at 35°F below.

      Of course a diesel mechanic would give us a tip that terrible. Gas fumes are still gasoline, ether is better because it doesn’t have as strong of a pre-ignition knock as gas, less potential for damage with ether assuming you don’t put a gallon of it in the intake.

  • @alexboucher4938
    @alexboucher4938 2 года назад +148

    The factory mufflers are extremely restrictive, you will gain a horsepower with any honda clone or predator header. The intake is also restrictive and robs power.
    The adjustment screw that the red throttle screw stops on is set at 3,000 rpm. If you remove the adjustment screw it will rev to 3,700 rpm which is totally safe for that little engine.

    Great reenactment of the delivery..lol..that Diesel engine is actually a 4hp Diesel with lots of torque for its size.. although many ads sell it as a 6hp in their description..it's really just a 4hp..I have seen it replace 8hp gasoline engines on several different machines such as log splitters..they can run on different fuel types without issues too such as used ATF ( automatic transmission fluid) and a slew of others..the original Diesel engines burned peanut oil before diesel fuel was available..probably burn almost anything but gasoline..used Vegetable oil would need to be heated up, like a copper coil / line wrapped around the exhaust system before it would burn..and the engine would need to start and be running Diesel fuel a few minutes to clean out the injector before turning it off if used with Veg oil etc..just a few on / off valves and separate fuel container to make it happen..Cheers..

They are million mile engines: u gotta build 3-4 trucks today to get that mileage. Not to mention the new ones get 13mpg. So they are burning 3x the fuel. Ppl also don’t factor in old diesels can run on crude. It done even need to to be burned to petroleum. The USA sits on more crude than anyone in the whole. • @jwsbackyard6413
      @jwsbackyard6413  2 года назад +3

      I ran a cable through the throttle stop screw that it has from factory. The stop screw is hollow and allows for a throttle cable to pass through but has a bigger cup that will hold the outer sheath of the throttle cable. Then I ran the cable through one of the holes in the throttle lever and put a cable stop on the cable. I put the cable stop on low enough that it always keeps a little tension on the throttle lever so that the engine will idle instead of returning all the way to stop. The red knob has to be loose so that the throttle will return to idle smoothly and not get stuck wide open. I will try to post a video of the setup soon.

    I got one of these from Amazon. It arrived with the throttle control bent all to hell. I fixed that but the spring runs from the throttle control to a lever under the gas tank. When adjusting the throttle control the lever doesn't move. This doesn't seem right. Have you noticed on yours if the lever has much travel to it? I haven't been able to get fuel through the metal line. When I disconnect it at the bottom where it is hooked to the pump I get fuel but none at the top of the line.

    • @jwsbackyard6413
      @jwsbackyard6413  Год назад +2

      The lever doesn’t have a ton of movement but that lever is what shuts off the flow of fuel. When you prime the fuel you have to have the throttle control open as if you are pressing the gas, otherwise the fuel is cut off. That was a mistake I made.

    Sounds pretty good and rolls a fair amount of black smoke. Had my yellow 196 "4 horsepower" (actually a 3.5 horse) in a shed for about a year and it runs pretty strong to this day. Bought it for my mini tractor project.
    Also. Some people wonder if these cheap diesels share the same internal and external parts as the Hondas/Clones/Predators and such, and they want to know mainly because of all the aftermarket support (exhaust, air filters, connecting rods, etc.) for said engines. To answer their question: yes and no. Obviously the intake and exhaust manifold ports are the same as the 160/196/212 gas counterparts. I have a cheap Amazon intake adapter for a GX160 bolted to it and I used a flange from a generic 196 to make my smoke stack header. Judging by the outside view of my diesel engine, it looks to have the same bore and stroke as the said gas engines as well, so the billet connecting rods and pistons will definitely interchange and the high-revving crankshafts MIGHT interchange too. Cylinder heads will also interchange but good luck putting a fuel injector in the spark plug threads of a 212 HEMI cylinder head. Camshafts will interchange unless the diesel cam is of a bigger diameter or has another gear on it specifically to drive the fuel pump. Hopefully I'm right about some of this stuff. I'm honestly not familiar with these small diesels. LOL

    • @TacticalPhoenixYT
      @TacticalPhoenixYT Год назад

      Dont listen to Jockwilson. This is an issue that we have come to accept with the 212. The engine has a built in decompression lobe on the camshaft that is designed to open the exhaust valve slightly during compression to make starting it easier. When the engine reaches its idle rpm, this lobe gets flung with centrifugal force, disconnecting the decompression. Most likely, im assuming you are starting the engine hot. Due to the extra force of the compression stroke, the engine likes to stop on said stroke if you shut off the engine,(if that makes sense) Due to this, the decompression often doesnt get a chance to trigger, leading to full compression of the engine, which means it fires before the piston reaches TDC, leading to the engine kicking back, as the term is named. What I like to do, is to pull it past said compression stroke gently, and once you pass it, you then give it a hard yank to start the engine. It might make you look like a pussy, but trust me, its worked fine for me every single time. The second more unlikely possibility is that somehow, the valve lash on the exhaust valve has changed, (aka the space between the rocker arms and valve stems) leading to the engine becoming insensitive to the slight opening of decompression, which means you need to manually recalibrate the valve lash on the engine, which you can find lots of videos about on youtube. Good luck on it!

    In scooters you change roller weights, unless you get it right they are horribly slow, revving to high or low.
    In your Chinese CVT there is no adjustment ......unless...you change the spring on rear pulley, stiffer for higher rpm
    Even the ramp angle of rear pulley can be wrong so that the rpm is correct at full load but not at other times or vice versa!

Axle and jack shaft sprockets can also be changed here for different results but with an unknown engine and no one knows what changes to the converter are going to work for the setup until they get it together and try it out. @@jwsbackyard6413that belt slips when you put too much torque through them, it's really more fit for a gasoline engine.

      Yup, it's a modification of the honda GX160 design, and they're not very reliable because of that.
