The VR footage was recorded while playing, using an OBS plugin to record the Headset video instead of monitor video. Usually I have to replay the track files and sync and replace the low quality video with rerecorded, 1440p res footage in the edit. That's also why the frame rate for the VR footage gets super choppy. There's slight desync between left and right eye images while this hapens, and my gunsight becomes a 20 fps kaleidascope
Fun fact: The RAAF and the RAF did not use the normal roundel in with the red circle in the Pacific as it was misidentified with the Japanese one. Instead, the normal roundel was removed for a white rice with a dark blue outline.
Do you have any P-40 skins with the proper roundel? I think I made the choice to pick this skin to differentiate between me and my wingmen. The skins bundled with the mod may have the proper roundel on it
Also red dot was removed about within 6 month after Pearl Harbor from US insignas for the same reson. With that the red-white stripes on the rudder was also removed.

Their planes destroyed enemy landing barges heading for Milne Bay during daylight. At night the Japanese successfuly landed troops. The 75 squadron was famous for taking off and using their guns within seconds after lifting off on ground forces. The 75 squadron withdrew back to Port Morseby untill the naval landing was repulsed. Their P40's played a big role in that conducting numerous strikes on enemy ground forces. The 75 squadron was moved to Goodenough Island in October 1943 to support the Allied offensive in the Louisiade Archipelago and New Britain. They were known for fighting epic battles against Japanese planes flying out of Rabaul.
Did 75 squadron do ground attack on the kokoda track, and are there dates of their sorties? I'm hoping the RAAF records are searchable like the RAF records tend to be

Seriously. Great Battles with a working carrier would be the best thing ever. DCS and Vtol VR carrier landings are already pretty great, But I want to scramble a hellcat squadron and defend the fleet

But yeah...if IL-2 came out with a Pacific War game complete with period aircraft I would pounce on it...there are some on IL-2 1946...but not as refined as European theater.

I'm debating doing terrain editing for a map, which may not be too big of an undertaking for smaller chains of islands. I've been working on a VTOL VR map using topographic map data from Montana for over a year now, that may make into a video if I can figure out an easy way to get external camera angles in VTOL VR. There's no carriers in Il2. but a south pacific map wouldn't be too bad
@@ThunderBatSims I agree. There are plenty of campaigns they could do without using carriers. Unless something changes I don't see it happening. Our only real hope currently is DCS. Corsair, Hellcat and AI Zero are coming. That's all I can think of that has been announced. If they give us a New Guinea, Solomans, or even a Philippines map to go with the Marianas one I would be so happy. They could take the next ten years slowly rolling out PacWar airplane and I wouldn't even be mad.

@@ThunderBatSims I agree. I will keep hitting the copium until release. At this time I don't think there is any reason for the flight models to be poor. Maybe incomplete on some of the Japanese planes but with the use of CFD flight modeling and the info we do have they should be close.
The only way to get a PTO scenerio at the moment is to skin the planes we have to Japanese markings and use the kuban map to stand in for Papua NG,everyone wants the game to go to the pacific but that will be years down the line,so the only way we can get are PTO fix is play 1946 sturmovik Bat heavy modded versions or wait for microphrose admiral which looks good from early footage

@@ThunderBatSims I did not know work on a Finland map was going on,I do not think anything is official yet.I think surface editing is a huge task and only the devs have the tools to make new maps,it’s becoming harder to do mods as all new stuff is coded,but I have done textures on the Stalingrad map ( Egypt Nile scenerio ) kuban maps for PTO,semi desert and Spanish civil war.I look forward to whatever map they do,I was hoping Malta but I believe that would be a huge task trying to make Valletta harbour

That's good to hear, the whole reason I started making videos was because I wanted to make raw gameplay watchable. Quick cut gameplay videos are too much for me these days, I like the pacing of milsims. After I started learning Il-2 in 2021 RUclips gave me the rabbit hole of combat flight sim content. I went full Il-2 specifically because I saw other people's content and thought I could make flight sim content watchable. Taff, Wolfpack, growling Sidewinder, Longshot, Sorcerer dave, and some hardcore DCS short films like Hornet Productions were what the algorithm fed me first, and I definitely borrow a lot of style from those videos. I spend a ton of time framing the external shots (only about 20% of the external angles I record make it into the video), so I'm always thinking about alternate camera shots that other creators could have used while I watch their videos. That's probably where most of my style came from, trying to make exactly the content I wish someone else was already making

The Germans Italians sent a lot of planes between eachother, but the japanese also got some planes. IDK if any saw combat, because they were all for test purposes, and the japanese never adopted their use. Unfortunately it's impossible to mod in planes to IL-2 Great battles, so texture edits, skins and voice lines are as close as it gets. If you know that you're going up against the japanese, the silhouettes work as identifiable standins for the real planes. In VR it gets pretty immersive

I'd almost prefer the pixelated LucasArts "Battlehawks 1942" aircraft.
Why did u stay in the fight with a heavily damaged aircraft over water? Bring it home and fly another one later. Aircraft are easier to replace than fighter pilots.
In single missions I fight to the death and try to make as much air combat happen as I can, to get more footage to use. You'll get to see me running away from fights the second I take damage in an upcoming P-51 Iron man campaign I'm playing and recording currently
This is a mod that's been around for a couple of years. Not a ton of people use it. There's no way to mod in planes in Il-2, so we have to work with what we have. The mod retextures the kuban map with different colors, there are pilot model changes and australian voice lines, and the airacraft skins are all pacific. It feels pretty immersive in VR once you're actually in the middle of the fight. When I'm defensive against an aircraft with the japanese markings, Its believable

The RNZAF and the Fleet Air Arm roundels for the Royal Navy were slightly different too.
