I'm a 71 yr old woman on my second Cpap machine. The first one was EASY.......Turn it on!. This new one, JUST reading the instructions in the book, I wanted to scream and think I DID !! It was ALLLL 'greek' to me, as I have fibro, which means "fuzzy head doesn't absorb all this new modern crap of turning a machine the hard way" lol........THANK GOODNESS for this video!!! It gave much more confidence in turning it on and using it !!!
It's not you Betty, the manual is bad. Did you get a DVD showing the machine functions with this unit? Fortunately this excellent video covers what's missing in the manual.
One thing that’s incorrectly stated in the video is that the blue washable filter does NOT need to be replaced every month. It needs to be washed and cleaned every two weeks according to the manual (that’s why it’s called a washable filter), although the machine gives a notification every 30 days for cleaning the filter. My provider advised me to stick to the 30-day period, so I clean my filter monthly. Replacing the filter is only needed every 6 months according to the manual, although here also my provider told me replacing it once a year is sufficient unless it’s broke earlier. I have my Dreamstation in use since June 2018 and I’m still using the same filter ever since without any problems
Man, it would have been nice to have seen these videos when they gave me my machine. Wasn’t given a lot of information. Also was told wisp would probably not work well for me... went through two others then a friend gave me one to try! Bingo! My ahi is finally below 5!!!
Thanks for the video content! Sorry for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Franaar Painless Smile Formula (do a google search)? It is a smashing exclusive guide for crushing your snoring or sleep apnea problem minus the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my work buddy after many years got cool results with it.
Good video work and sound level. I am a quite overwhelmed as my rep said basically put mask on, turn machine "on" and go to sleep. Hours later, to interrupt for a bathroom break, un-clip the hose from the nose. Upon return, return the hose to the nose mask and go back to sleep. When your slumber time is over then push the button on top again so it'll turn "off." THAT is what I was expecting. I watch this 15 minutes -- when ideally I should have been asleep using unit for the very first time -- and fear it's gonna take me 30 mins. of fiddling with this 'n' that before I can bloody "Knock off" and get to sleep. How does one sleep when s/he is overcome with trying to figure out this 'n' that right before bedtime? . . . Maybe I have an automatic machine. I surely hope so. "On" and "Off" - - that is ALL I want to monkey with -- in addition to the normal maintenance, washing and changing filters. . . . Re-reading my comment I realize I didn't really ask a question -- just expressed my wonderment that this looks like overkill, "above my pay grade" and isn't something I can tolerate. Sigh.
Hi there, thanks for the 'wonderment' haha. Look, for some actually it can be as simple as pressing the on button and then pressing the off button however i find that it's good to know what features are available and how to change some of the settings especially if you are struggling with the therapy. If you're doing fine and sleeping well then don't get to stressed by all the instructions but if you're struggling with an aspect of the therapy then it's always beneficial to learn a little. It will also stop you relying on seeing a rep or doctor etc. Best wishes NIck
Okay guys so here's the only fact that matters here! Information straight form the recall page on the Canadian Health Govt Website - Issue number 2 is the worse! "Philips has become aware of two (2) issues that may pose a risk for patients or users of Philips Respironics branded Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure (BIPAP), and Mechanical Ventilators: 1. Philips has determined from user reports and testing that the Polyester-Based Polyurethane (PE-PUR) sound abatement foam used in Philips continuous and non-continuous ventilators may degrade under certain circumstances, and the degraded particles could potentially enter the air pathway of the device. This issue affects Philips Respironics branded CPAP’s, Bi-Levels, and Mechanical Ventilators. 2. The results of testing performed by Philips indicate that the PE-PUR sound abatement foam used in these devices may emit certain chemicals. Our investigation to date indicates that this emission occurs during initial operation and may possibly continue throughout the device's useful life. These issues impact all device product platforms manufactured with Polyester Polyurethane (PE-PUR) sound abatement foam" So let me break this down so it's easier to understand. Basically Philips have gone and grabbed a brand new DS1 off the shelf, turned it on and tested the air coming out of it. They have determined from this that machine is 'emitting certain chemicals' and that this happens from day 1 and may continue for the life of the machine! Now from the U.S recall page they have stated these are 'carcinogenic' chemicals. So from day one, your machine is pumping you full of carcinogenic chemicals and this could continue night after night for the life of the machine. This is the reason for the recall! They are using the ozone / foam break down as a smoke screen to hide the real reason which that it doesn't matter how you clean your device or what the weather is...From day 1...It's bad for you! Stay tuned and good luck
Hi, Nick. My 5-plus-years-old machine is due for replacement (it's hardly blowing in the last few days), and I just watched your video here to help me decide between this and one other machine. However, after watching it, I noticed it's from 2017, so now I don't know how relevant it is to my decision-making. Do you happen to know if the machine Dreamstation machine for sale now has changed since your review in 2017? Thanks. I'm deciding between this and the ResMed Air Sense.
I have been using the Dream Station for only a couple weeks, but long enough to make these 2 critical observations: (1) The front facing readout is a design mistake. The old System One top facing readout made sense. To avoid getting water into the tube, people with the humidifier attachment (most people) place the machine lower (not higher) than the bed. Therefore, the only way to see the readout is to lie down on the bed and look at it sideways, or to pick the machine up (with wire and tube attached - yeah sure!). Bad design! (2) The reservoir cradle & mechanism for the humidifier water is a Rube Goldberg nightmare. The System One design was (again) much better. You are lucky if you can get the reservoir in OR out with the Dream Station. The System One machines in this regard were simple and easy - fewer moving parts! Also, the Dream machine puts the humidifier in the back instead of the front, making it harder to reach to insert or remove. As far as the software I haven't noticed any significant difference between the 2 machines.
Although this device is auto adjusted pressure, can it be manually set? I find that anything over 10cm can be uncomfortable for me. Therefore, my old Respironic Remstar Plus is manually set at 9.5cm. Thx
G'day, yes it certainly can and i believe that all Auto machines (apap) can be used in Fixed pressure (CPAP) Mode. Check out part 3 of the series and i talk about this. Here's the link ruclips.net/video/0BhrJPDq_5s/видео.html I would suggest instead of putting it at a manual 9.5, just set the max auto level to 9.5 :-). This will cap the pressure but still alouth auto adjustment throughout the night. Have a great day!
So far, I like the machine. A few things I would change, however. The is almost no way to lift the lid to add water without dislocating the hose from the swivel or turning the unit off and on. I'm going to have to glue a knob of some sort. As a person with insomnia, I use the machine longer than the average person. Having to physically get out of bed, turn on a light, remove the gear (and chinstrap if you use one) and try to coax the machine open to refill the sucker again (if the plate heater is used). By that time, I up and grouchy! Make the damn tubs bigger! And on top of that, who ever thought of making the water level marker less than white, so ya can't see it?? Sure love to meet this person so I can bop them on the head. Do you ever consult users before you do things like this?
Hi Nick - My units front dial as you know, you turn it left or right to scroll through selectable options & then your PRESS your dial in to select a shown entry. On my Dreamstation, the PRESS-ing of the dial to select is no longer working reliably. Sometimes I need to press and click it over 10 times before it registers. How do you change the front panel?
Hi there, sounds to me like it might need repairs to the dial, You can try and remove it and have a go yourself or perhaps consult with where you purchased it from and perhaps also check to see if it's still within the warranty period. Have a great day Nick
@@CPAPReviews - I have the number I will call on Monday morning to find out. The unit is still in excellent shape after 3.5 years; so I hope to be able to replace only the needed part or get it fixed. I did check, and the warranty period has expired. Also want to thank you for your videos! They are and continue to be so very helpful; especially the ones about the normal and extended therapy related settings on the Dreamstation. You're a very helpful RUclipsr. 👍😊
My michine stopped showing you had another good night and how many good night's like 19 out of 21. Can you tell me how to find it. Also I can not get my phone to pair with my machine
On the My Info screen I don't have all the options you show. I don't have AHI, periodic breathing, mask fit, or the dream mapper screens. You have seven screens and I have like 3.
I had the exact same problem. Part 3 video will show you how to access the others, if you haven't already found it. Press the round button and the ramp button in at the same time, hold until the clinical menu drops down. The other information is available by scrolling through
If Medicare would help with the cost of the sleep apnea machine it would cut down on the bacteria we breath in. Seniors are not able to clean the machine manually everyday. I was just diagnosed with lung cancer, and I have been on a a sleep pap for 30+ years. I am not a smoker, with no family history of cancer. Where can I get more info on the cleaning machine?
Hi Lisa, 2 hours your first night is pretty good going to be honest. The therapy can take a few weeks and even months sometimes to get the hang of. If you are wanting to perhaps limit the pressure a bit whilst you're getting use to the therapy then check out part 3 of the series on the dreamstation ruclips.net/video/0BhrJPDq_5s/видео.html Here's also a video i did which many beginners enjoy ruclips.net/video/TK58N4BqxwQ/видео.html Best wishes Nick
Hi! I saw in this video there was a very fast message flash saying something about “Activity card”. I get this same message on my machine, problem is that it is so fast I can’t read it! Can you please explain it? Thanks for your very helpful videos!
I see that also on my machine I believe it is just the data being recorded 'written' to the memory card it ususally only takes a few seconds and while that message is displayed you should not remove the card.
Sometimes this is difficult to understand. In the beginning he seems to say "iPhone" a lot but after a while I realized he must be saying "icon". In the end he seems to say "unification" but I assume that is "humidification". At least I probably got he general idea of most of what he is saying and that helps for when I read the instructions or whatever.
sound is terrible ! could not understand alot and the ummms were horrible - during this showed nothing about adjusting to relate to what he was saying ! dumb..
Is this a replacement for Resmed airsense 10. What is the difference between them? My machine is set between 11 and 20 mostly runs in the 11 range, airsense 10
When you have your therapy hours screen up and then rotate your knob to AHI..mine doesnt do that. Mine turns to main menu. Im only able to see the therapy hours. Is there another way for me? I dont have the preheat option either😫 Ok Im guessing our machines are different. I dont have the flex, humidification, mask type, language
Hi Chastity, yep, make sure you check out part 3 of the series. Sounds like you've been locked out of that info :-). Cheers. Nick ruclips.net/video/0BhrJPDq_5s/видео.html
My heated tubing runs for about 30-45 minutes, then shuts itself off. Is there something I can do to change this, and what symbol would it be under? TIA
What is he setting that makes the difference in how much distilled water is left in the morning? Sometime in the morning there is no water and sometime not much D water used. How do I regulate that?
Hello, it's humidifier settings. Please watch the video and it will show you how to change it. The higher the value, the more water the machine will use however please understand that the amount of water used will also change depending on the humidity value in the atmosphere. Thank you
Like several others, I wake up with my mouth glued together because it's so dry. I use a wisp mask but don't mouth breathe. I know this because I wake up to my cheeks puffing out, mouth full of air. It is really loud if you just take the mask off without turning it off. Hubby and I both use them, and they both wake each other up with the hair dryer like noise.
Hello my name is Susana, I have a Philips Dreamstation and it was possible to understand my menus are different, so where and how can update my firmware. Thank you
So mine came unplugged. I plugged it in the night I was gonna use it. Whe. I turned it on i noticed I didn't have the heat dial on there next to the pressure. Now I dont even have a preheat tab. The main menu just has 3 tabs. Any reason why this happened?
Hi there, perhaps check out part 3 of the series to see if these options can be turned on from the clinical settings in part 3. Let me know how you go :)
@@CPAPReviews thank you for getting back to me. it was 1am where im at when i started watching your vidoes. i got too tired to finish all the parts so i went to bed. but i will try tonight and see if i can get it back, also try some of these other options out. i have a problem at the end of my inhale if i swallow spit or breath in quickly my whole mask will jerk on my face, and kinda make a pop noise. so ill see if i can fix that.
Hi Thalia, you've probably been 'blocked' out of it by your clinic and you will need to turn it on in the clinical settings. Check out part 3 of the series on how to do this - ruclips.net/video/0BhrJPDq_5s/видео.html . Have a great day
It could be dust inside the machine if you haven't been changing the filter regularly. I recommend you contact the company where you purchased it and see if it's under warranty. If not you can probably still get it serviced. I personally use to attach a vacuum cleaner to the end of the cpap outlet and suck all the dust out that way haha. I worked for the 60 series when their motors got noisy but i haven't tried on the dreamstation. Good luck
Hi guys, ResMed is trying to take down the CPAP Reviews channel. I think we might have 12 hours left. Here's a Facebook Group i started! Please join for support - facebook.com/groups/138127984943408 . If you have any free time please copy this and post it on the comments. Thank you so much! Nick
There's sometimes a little lock on the SD cards, make sure that little lock switch isn't on or just try changing to a different SD card. Anyone will work so just get a cheap one and try it :)

Philips have released some information regarding a problem with the sound insulating foam used inside the DS machines - Here's the link - ruclips.net/video/NAXkLJ_v9F0/видео.html If you have any questions put them in the comment section of the video
I am not happy at the idea of having to clean it every night! Or it being so interactive, or too quiet. I need the white noise to help me sleep. I rejected this machine once before, may do so again.
I’ve had my DS for over a year. I made a cleaning chart. Each week I clean mask, hose, and pre-filter with soapy water and toothbrush. Once a month, I replace the disposable filter. I use distilled water in tank and clean it at two months. Weekly cleaning takes about 10 minutes. Really not a big deal. I think the cleaning machine is an expensive gimmick.
@@donbrloks3959 The cleaner as seen on TV is very expensive. I think its like around $350 I was shocked and I believe its too expensive for what it does.
Hi Alberto, i'm not sure on this. They might have different menu / feature options in different parts of the world. Let me know if you find a solution. Cheers Nick
The dreamstation has been around for a long time so it is possible that they added these features to the firmware sometime later. Do you have a heated tube connected to your machine?
Hi CPAP users, how are you all doing? A question please. For any of you that use the Dreamstation and you buy tubing and connectors from Amazon, would you please post to me the Sku / item number for the tubing and the connectors that work best for you? Thank you and please, mask up and distance. __Atalanta

Hi there, sounds to me like it might need repairs to the dial, You can try and remove it and have a go yourself or perhaps consult with where you purchased it from and perhaps also check to see if it's still within the warranty period. Have a great day
Nick
The other information is available by scrolling through
Thanks
If Medicare would help with the cost of the sleep apnea machine it would cut down on the bacteria we breath in. Seniors are not able to clean the machine manually everyday. I was just diagnosed with lung cancer, and I have been on a a sleep pap for 30+ years. I am not a smoker, with no family history of cancer. Where can I get more info on the cleaning machine?
My mother's Dreamstation is covered by Medicare & Supplemental.
Medicare in the US will cover cost of a unit.
First night of use I kept getting woke up with the air blowing through it. How do I adjust this? I only made it 2.6 hours then had to turn it off.
Hi Lisa, 2 hours your first night is pretty good going to be honest. The therapy can take a few weeks and even months sometimes to get the hang of. If you are wanting to perhaps limit the pressure a bit whilst you're getting use to the therapy then check out part 3 of the series on the dreamstation ruclips.net/video/0BhrJPDq_5s/видео.html
Here's also a video i did which many beginners enjoy ruclips.net/video/TK58N4BqxwQ/видео.html

Thank you 😊
In my CPAP, i only see 3 dots above the My Info section,i dont have pre heat section beside My Info section, why it's happened?
Sometimes this is difficult to understand. In the beginning he seems to say "iPhone" a lot but after a while I realized he must be saying "icon". In the end he seems to say "unification" but I assume that is "humidification". At least I probably got he general idea of most of what he is saying and that helps for when I read the instructions or whatever.
I will practice my pronunciation for you...

My ramp doesn't show it ramping back ?It just ramps back and shows' it going from 4 to 5 . Is my machine broke ?
Great video, thanks for making these tutorials.
sound is terrible ! could not understand alot and the ummms were horrible - during this showed nothing about adjusting to relate to what he was saying ! dumb..
My info no longer works . I only have the therapy hours listed . When I turn the dial , it goes to my menu. Any ideas on why it's doing that?
G'day, it's probably been switched off in the clinical settings. Check out part 3 of this series on how to turn it back on
@@CPAPReviews I also noticed the water in the chamber does not go down. The water used to be warm...now it's cool...how do I fix this?
Is this a replacement for Resmed airsense 10. What is the difference between them? My machine is set between 11 and 20 mostly runs in the 11 range, airsense 10
When you have your therapy hours screen up and then rotate your knob to AHI..mine doesnt do that. Mine turns to main menu. Im only able to see the therapy hours. Is there another way for me?
I dont have the preheat option either😫
Ok Im guessing our machines are different. I dont have the flex, humidification, mask type, language
Hi Chastity, yep, make sure you check out part 3 of the series. Sounds like you've been locked out of that info :-). Cheers. Nick ruclips.net/video/0BhrJPDq_5s/видео.html
Thank you!
You're welcome!
how do you measure tubing at mask where mine is smaller or the larger tubing I am using nasal pillows
masks and tubes have universal fittings (except the airmini). Cheers
Should you heat the tube before each use? I was never told to heat the tube before using the machine.
No not necessary but some people will preheat the water so that you get instant humidification as soon as you start therapy.
@@CPAPReviews Thank you for answering.
I would
my therapy hours are showing zero. It used to work showing nightly therapy. why has it stopped? is there a way to reset it?? Ive unplugged it too
Id check to see if the date / time settings are accurate on your device. Cheers
My heated tubing runs for about 30-45 minutes, then shuts itself off. Is there something I can do to change this, and what symbol would it be under? TIA
Peggy B. Mine too what can I do?
Peggy B. Can some body answer the question please please?
What is the bottom on the right side used for? Next to power
How does the machine now when to preheat?
Hi Jim, it will only preheat when you press the button in to tell it to preheat :-)
Thank you
I was told by my provider that the weather can play a big part in it. If it's humid it will use less, if it's dry it will use more. ☺
The mask number is not on the packaging, it's on the mask for the Wisk type.
Thanks for the tip :)
How do I turn humidity off?
Super helpful- thx!
Most welcome :)
My dream station doesn't have mask fit and periodic breathing on My Info. I wonder why?
Mine either😫
@@chastity5214 I found out that you have to download the app
Thanks for finding that out! I thought it might have to do with the firmware or perhaps different countries have different settings etc. Cheers

can you turn the Dreamstation mobile app off - so that you do not get microwave signals from the cpap machine close to your head at night ?

Why do I have a lock icon on my ramp pressure screen?
Hi Frances, please review Part 3 Video and this should enable you to change it. Best wishes! Nick
I click the icons but the machine doesnt respond
this is great but it would be nice to talk about the auto cpap thanks great job except that issue
Thanks for the feedback
My dreamstation does Not preheat the the humidifier chamber - the delivering Company does Not Know why …
The AHI screen doesnt' show when I rotate to the right
Hi Thalia, you've probably been 'blocked' out of it by your clinic and you will need to turn it on in the clinical settings. Check out part 3 of the series on how to do this - ruclips.net/video/0BhrJPDq_5s/видео.html . Have a great day
As usual about these videos the presenter is the star by the time he finishes we have all dies through lack of oxygen
My machine is making a whining noise all of a saddle....it’s a high pitch noise...any ideas what that might be?
It could be dust inside the machine if you haven't been changing the filter regularly. I recommend you contact the company where you purchased it and see if it's under warranty. If not you can probably still get it serviced. I personally use to attach a vacuum cleaner to the end of the cpap outlet and suck all the dust out that way haha. I worked for the 60 series when their motors got noisy but i haven't tried on the dreamstation. Good luck
Make sure the cover is closed tight.

My dad has the same machine and had it for many years now is saying SD card error take out and reinstall did that but massage still reads error
There's sometimes a little lock on the SD cards, make sure that little lock switch isn't on or just try changing to a different SD card. Anyone will work so just get a cheap one and try it :)

Where can you find the resistance number on the mask?

How do I turn up the humidity

I do not have preheat or the option for a heated tube
The dreamstation has been around for a long time so it is possible that they added these features to the firmware sometime later. Do you have a heated tube connected to your machine?
@@CPAPReviews no but I am wanting to try one
yes but still does not have the preheat
How do you install oxygen unit to the c-pap machine
just get an oxygen adaptor that connects to the tube before it reaches the machine

Why not just a simple ON/OFF button, like my 2003 Respironics BiPap machine had.. All this B.S. just to get the machine on sux. Just a humble opinion.
Still has the on / off button. Sometimes people also have their machines in hard to reach places , and on top of that, in the dark it can be hard to find the buttons if you need to get up and go to the toilet etc. Thanks for your input though.
That's reassuring to know. Thanks. Am thinking of ordering one to upgrade. Have had a bipap machine since the HUGE, NOISY, clunky boxes of 1999-2000!
