    HUGE NEWS - PHILIPS RECALL ANNOUNCEMENT ruclips.net/video/sN9B3ZFyTSA/видео.html

  • @CPAPReviews
    @CPAPReviews  3 года назад +9

    WATCH THIS! - ruclips.net/video/kFxtA3y1ucQ/видео.html
    Okay guys so here's the only fact that matters here! Information straight form the recall page on the Canadian Health Govt Website - Issue number 2 is the worse!
    "Philips has become aware of two (2) issues that may pose a risk for patients or users of Philips Respironics branded Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure (BIPAP), and Mechanical Ventilators:
    1. Philips has determined from user reports and testing that the Polyester-Based Polyurethane (PE-PUR) sound abatement foam used in Philips continuous and non-continuous ventilators may degrade under certain circumstances, and the degraded particles could potentially enter the air pathway of the device. This issue affects Philips Respironics branded CPAP’s, Bi-Levels, and Mechanical Ventilators.
    2. The results of testing performed by Philips indicate that the PE-PUR sound abatement foam used in these devices may emit certain chemicals. Our investigation to date indicates that this emission occurs during initial operation and may possibly continue throughout the device's useful life.
    These issues impact all device product platforms manufactured with Polyester Polyurethane (PE-PUR) sound abatement foam"
    So let me break this down so it's easier to understand. Basically Philips have gone and grabbed a brand new DS1 off the shelf, turned it on and tested the air coming out of it. They have determined from this that machine is 'emitting certain chemicals' and that this happens from day 1 and may continue for the life of the machine! Now from the U.S recall page they have stated these are 'carcinogenic' chemicals.
    So from day one, your machine is pumping you full of carcinogenic chemicals and this could continue night after night for the life of the machine. This is the reason for the recall! They are using the ozone / foam break down as a smoke screen to hide the real reason which that it doesn't matter how you clean your device or what the weather is...From day 1...It's bad for you! Stay tuned and good luck

      Thank you for posting I’m trying to get through to this company. Long holds on phone in US. Insurance will not go after this company. My doc won’t go after this company. And Sleep quest, the company I bought the machine from won’t go after this company. I think it’s unconscionable that the recall is out and the registered owners are not being helped. I bought filters that connect to tubing until I can get this straightened out. This is what this horrible company suggests until the matter is dealt with.

      I had the same experience! It was like they were trying to explode my lungs with the absurdly high pressure. First I was lent the machine by my provider to try out for a week, smart ramp enabled, and it worked perfectly - zero apnea. But when they gave me the machine after my insurers agreed to pay for it, smart ramp was disabled and the pressure fixed at 13. Loony! This video has allowed me to take control myself! Ten thousand thanks to Nick for this vid!

    I've been using my Dream Station for about 5 years. That's long enough that my insurance will pay for a new machine, but there don't seem to be any new machines available. Supplier is telling me that they don't expect to see any new machines until at least late September.
    (I have registered my machine on the recall website.)
    But as a practical matter I think that if I've been using the recalled machine for 5 years, another month or two probably isn't going to make much difference. If it's going to poison me, it likely already has.

    In your opinion, which CPAP machine (Resmed AirSense 10 Autoset vs Phillips Respironics DreamStation with Humidifier) has the better algorithm, best technology / easiest interface settings and mobile app?

    • @CPAPReviews

      Hi Linda, If I had to choose between one or the other I would probably choose the dreamstation just because it can be separated in two for travel and is a 12v unit which is good for camping and for use with battery systems etc. But in all honesty I wouldn't recommend buying either as they're about 5 years old now and you can pick up other brand machines for about half the price that have all the same features and are newer. If I was buying one now i would go a BMC Luna G3 auto which is about $500 less and was released in 2020. Cheers

      @@CPAPReviews Thanks, Nick. The AirSense 10 and DreamStation are all on sale now for about the same price in the U.S (~$508+tsh). The Luna G3 is about $30 less. If it were left at 4, I would suffocate. I would put the min & max much closer together - for example 10 and 15. You can determine what min & max works best for you yourself. My new Dream Station works fine. My only criticism is that the readout would be much easier to see if it were on the top of the machine (as was the case with the PR System One machines) rather than on the front. The only way I can see the readout on the bedside table is to lie down and view it sideways, or to pick it up to look at it (which means detaching it from power, and being careful not to spill any water left in the humidifier).

    Great info with the video 👍 I have a couple question I got my mother’s dream station machine after she passed and I was just diag with sleep apnea. So the machine I got doesn’t have a humidifier can I add one.the sec question is under therapy setting for mode I have auto b, bi level and cpap does this mean this machine is not the pro model and what do those modes mean. Thank you for any info

    • @CPAPReviews
      @CPAPReviews  3 года назад +1

      Hi David, sorry to hear of your loss. Yes you can certainly add a humidifier to it and it will just click on the side of the pump section. No.2 it sounds to me like you have an Auto bipap machine which is top of the line. So those modes mean 1. Auto Bipap means the machine will automatically adjust the pressure between the max ipap and min epap (max inhalation pressure and min exhalation pressure). Standard Bipap means those two values max ipap and min epap will be fixed and the cpap means the machine will be functioning as a fixed pressure machine and set to one pressure for inhalation and exhalation (a basic cpap). My advice with this particular unit is to probably go and speak to your MD or CPAP clinic regarding the setup. Otherwise you can just do a little bit of trial and error with the pressures and as low as your AHI data from the machine (apnea hypopnea index) is below 5 then you can keep bringing down the max pressure levels down to fine tune it. But best to probably speak with a consultant. Cheers

It comes with instructions on how to remove the old one and put in the new one. There is no foam in it to disintegrate. It is manufactured for Dream station 1. It's called the "Plastic Box without foam filter for First Generation Dream station." I highly recommend this product. Just take your time installing it. It is not difficult. There are also videos that show how to do it. Good Luck! If you still have your machine and use it, you should buy this device. THERE IS NO FOAM IN THE SUBSTITUTE TO DISINTEGRATE.

    Say a quick question on reoving the flam from inside this machine (another video you did) did you just use a utility kife to cut the plastic, or an X-Act style (hobby knife) for working with Styrene models????? I am thinking abut doing the surgery to my D.S.1. in remving the foam from the chamber around the motor and cutting the inside of the chamber as you suggested. I have used Res Med machines when I first was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea in 2002; (I went undiagnse for 32 years) before getting my first sleep study in 2002.

    All about your machine, If you are using a Philips Dreamstation. That is the Total issue. Simple as that. Making people severely Ill. Sleep Apnea is very complicated. There are 3 Types of Apnea. If you have all 3 like me, I wish you the best I'm still trying to get a good night sleep. Done everything. But as I said. I found out it was the CPAP machines toxic built like crap Phillips unit is the problem. I'm trying to get a Reshmed. If you do have a Philips Dreamstation, it's been recalled. Its dangerous. Get away from it. Drs dont wanna give any advice and Philips is gonna take years to fix it. But they are a huge company that wants to hide this. I'll bet if you are using the resperonics Dreamstation. Nobody told you its slowly killing you. Respiratory issues, infections, just got bronchitis and sinus and ear infection again. Basically point is, get rid of that CPAP. Only applies to Phillips dreamstation users, Get a Different Machine no matter if you gotta yell at people. I've been going through hell, no answers. Good luck. Seriously it's hard. Best of Luck.😪

      @@CPAPReviews my machine is set at a pressure level of 9 and when I wake up its at a pressure level of 4. Any clues to why it drops to that level?

      I meant "so low" sorry. I don't get how it goes from 9 to level 4 by itself

    I got one of these to use in a new sleep study. I came without the water tank 🤬🤬 so there's nothing I can about humidity levels and the like, BUT, this video helped me figure out how to adjust the pressure and how to turn off the Opti start. That was a huge source of discomfort last night. Thanks Nicko!

    Just got one of these yesterday (a re-certified machine) as compensation for the foam issue on my Philip’s system one machine. It’s supposed to be an Auto CPAP machine but it’s just going to be my emergency spare since I purchased a ResMed machine when the foam issue was being resolved (can’t go for two years without a machine while Philips is deciding what to do). Wish it came with a heated tube like my ResMed machine but my old Philips machine didn’t have that either…

    Hey Nick, hope all is well, you're safe and healthy. Recieved another DreamStation one last week. ( my other one that I only used 6 weeks last March and April was one of the ones recalled and my MD suggest I use my old Resmed unit till Philips replaces this one) My question is, do you think I should use this new Philips unit or continue to keep using my old Resmed unit. Reason I a! sk is does the new unit have the same foam as the one that was recalled. Guess I don't trust anyone with all thats going on. Thats for all you do! Really enjoy your videos and knowledge. God bless and be safe!

    Thanks! I had it on max 20 pressure in auto, but woke up on the machine making loud blower noise- is that normal? Shouldnt it be super quiet?

    • @CPAPReviews
      @CPAPReviews  4 года назад

      G'day Dan, max pressure just gives the machine the ability to go the max if required but doesn't mean it will definitely reach that point. I suggest you look at your data and set the max to your 90% percentile pressure or even just a bit below it and see if that helps. The Cflex/Aflex modes will also make the machine sound a bit louder if they are set high so experiment with these settings also.
      Cheers
      Nick

      @dank6408 4 года назад

      Nick thank you! When I had it on 20, 90% said 17ish, but the machine is then blowing so loud..just curious whether that is normal, havent heard another device to compare

    • @brianbaker359
      @brianbaker359 3 года назад

      It should be whisper quiet. Is the lid on water chamber shut securely. Is your hose connected tightly at both ends? Is your face mask silicone and frame snapped tightly together so there are no leaks? There should be virtually no noise, these machines are very quiet. Take it back to provider for diagnosis. Good luck.

      Hi Solomon, thanks for sharing your experience. I think you raise a very important point! Sometimes more pressure actually makes it easier for some to breathe. It's important to experiment with various starting pressure levels to find what works for you so thanks for that. Best wishes

      Hi Andre, appreciate the kind words mate. Yep i would be looking at your 90th percentile pressure and using that value as good place to set your AUTO MAX level. You can use your average pressure as a bit of a guide to put your AUTO MIN level. I normally the auto min level a couple of levels lower than the average :-). Have a great day

    Thank you so much my therapist in Mornington Victoria appears to believe this is all James Bond secrets and unwilling to explain or show me anything. Claiming things can only be changed if a Doctor says so. I am not a severe case of sleep Apnea in any context. It's as if she is giving away her trade secret's or she's the doctor and I have to listen. As a result I shopped around ..... and have experience of a number of masks and machines and various configurations, being careful not to drop the pressures to low or high or switch something off that should be on.

    What do you mean at 1:55 about a fix pressure machine? Is this where the max and min pressures are fixed at certain variables? So if there are not min and max values fixed then the machine can run on auto??
