    The rack for the chassis is not ready yet, so we're going to to jump ahead a little bit and start disassembling the engine. Today we're going to show you how to remove the cylinder head and see what is gong on inside. It's definitely not what we expected. Hopefully next week the rack will be ready and we'll get the suspension and and do final prep to get the body to the painter.

    Wow, the condition of the engine is as bad as the body shell. It looks like your engine is missing the belt tensioner, which is a spring loaded tensioner to maintain the belt tension. In the older cars, the casting of the belt tensioner was made of steel, the newer cars have a belt tensioner made of cast aluminum. I replaced mine with a new one, let me know if you want my older one I can give it to your for your build. The exhaust studs are M8x1.25 pitch, the nuts on my car are also 12 mm Hex. If your engine is stroked, I am presuming it was stroked with the 3.0 liter crankshaft. I had my engine rebuilt last year at Lindsey racing and it was also stroked with a NOS 3.0 liter crankshaft. In the rebuild, my engine was bored 0.5 mm oversize(100.5). In a stroked engine like this, you have to replace connecting rods(I used Pauter forged rods) and offset wrist pin pistons. I used J&E pistons, which have a coating on the piston skirts. The owner of this car needs to seriously think about making the engine more robust. The pistons in your engine are obviously not stock, you’ll have to figure out what compression rings are being used, casting iron(stock) or stainless(what I went to for greater strength over cast iron). Also, you need to find out what windage tray you have, the older ones do not have the crank scraper molded in them to continue the scraper off of the oil pan. You can no longer get 100.5 mm cast iron rings from Porsche. You need to check the condition of the exhaust port ceramic liners. You need to clean the surfaces to see if there are stress cracks in the liners, if there are, you should replace the head or the liners will start to chip off and get sent into the turbo and destroy it. I had to replace mine at a cost of $2200.00 .Since you can only get a new M44/52 head, you will also have to replace the Pressure relief valve in the head( another $500) because your M44/51 head has a much older and different PRV. With a newer head, you can go to larger intake valves, etc. There area lot of things you can do to improve the robustness of the engine now that you have it apart.

      I believe this is why the waterpump scraped its way through the timing cover. It has the late water pump with the wider pulley.

      Hi Brock, thank you for watching our channel. That dolly is made for putting under the wheels of the car. Mine are old and don't pump up anymore. You can find them at Harbor Freight, or ebay. They are very strong and good for this kind of stuff.
