4:07 the mandolin and banjo starting in unison, and then gradually increasing in intervals, and finally resolving harmonically on the way down when the bass comes in a couple beats before the downbeat... perfection
There's just this sound they have. Somewhere between autumn on a lonely mountain and a refined coffee shop on a bay in the north east. That's where I'm transported to when I listen to these guys.
This is just painfully good. The record is great, good songs... But the dynamics of this performance are unbelievable. I haven't seen them be able to capture it in other performances. Seriously, I feel amazingly painful because of how great this is.
One of my favorite things about performing/watching live music is that little 5-10 second space at the end of the song when nothing is playing and you could hear a pin drop and it seems like you’re in a total trance. You can see what I mean at the end of the video and golly it’s beautiful
i love how smooth it’s all part of the plan transitions into this. it gets me every time! i saw them in dublin last month and can safely say it was the best night of my life 🙂
my beloved Punch Brothers, a 5-piece orchestra of their own nature. I love ya like it's going out of style..... so much to explore in this creation. Thank you.
Feels like Michigan woods, adventuring with time to spare. Not a worry in the world. Just tall pine trees, birds singing, chipmunks chipping. Swinging in a hammock. Light rain.
That little harmonized violin/bass part at 3:50 is not only my favorite part of this song, but quite possibly my favorite musical moment of the album. I cannot get over how beautiful this is, especially considering it's being recorded with a single microphone.
Andrew Weitz what’s the wunder 49? I’m pretty useless in my gear knowledge. True, Punch Brothers have had lots of practice with achieving the right balance!
Whoops, I meant the Flea 49. Either way, both are clones of the famous Neumann M49, which is pretty much the final great tube mic Neumann created. Think Norah Jones’ vocals, orchestral recordings, etcetera.
The arrangements are sublime. All of you gentlemen are just extraordinary. Thank you so much for the beauty you bring. I don't mean to sound corny... it's just the truth. I'm looking forward to seeing you in Buffalo on Aug. 8 :) Peace-P
This is a nice song 💕 gives me warm feelings and makes me feel at home... Also, it’s a song that makes me feel connected with my older brother even tho he’s not here with me now...thank you.
how? i mean really.. someone please tell me.. how this video only has 48k views? thats a sick joke.. this band is beyond good and evil... pure raw talent... incredible vocals...
Your music always spirals me into absolute bliss. I can't express how much I love your work, it's always so meaningful and stunning. Thank you all for creating such amazing music.
Absolutely amazing - I hope to see you guys live some day. Really incredible musicianship, harmonic changes, dynamics...I love how you can hear influence from all sorts of music, it's so unique...definitely your recording of Passepied by Debussy is one of my favorite. And Chris your range is nuts.
Don't look up It'll break the spell You'll miss it when it's gone and no one knows when it'll come back around So love it like it's going out of style Don't look down When you're on the edge We all lose faith But miss it when it's gone and love It's always gonna come back around So miss it like it's going out of style Singing oh When we grow up We'll have it all Singing oh (Don't look back) When we grow up We'll have it all (there's nothing there) Yeah, oh when we grow up It moves so fast Chase it when it's gone And you can miss it when it comes back around Our true love is reflected in the change We embrace for one another Our true selves live forever in the change (Live forever in the change) We affected one another So forge ahead Knowing you just have to miss me when I'm gone and love I'm always gonna come back around 'Cause I love you like it's going out of style
It is a great performance! But have you heard about ZYLIA ZM-1 microphone array? It enables to record the entire sound scene with only one mic. You can then separate the individual tracks of instruments and vocals and mix them into a balanced recording. There are 19 capsules inside the mic with high-end 24-bit recording resolution and you can record the music in both 3D/360˚ and traditional Stereo. There is also Ambisonics plug-in available. It is really groundbreaking technology!
Since the first live show over 10 years ago, to any video I watch to this day as soon as they start playing together I get goosebumps, just feel so beautifully alive. ♡
Just so beautiful 💕 Haven't been able to sleep lately, having recently had a loss in the family... It's 6am here in Sydney, and this is making me feel peace for the first time in a long time. 😴

Normally when people say things like that it's overly pretentious, but I get exactly what you mean by that.
Fake Name no, definitely over pretentious.
I Couldnt agree more! their sounds takes you to so many places.
omg love this
Go Bucks lol
Ugh. This song. So damn beautiful.
You guys really understand timbre and dynamics in orchestration.
This is just painfully good. The record is great, good songs... But the dynamics of this performance are unbelievable. I haven't seen them be able to capture it in other performances. Seriously, I feel amazingly painful because of how great this is.
Heard this on NPR the other day, and now I'm absolutely obsessed. What a beautiful song. It's like a Bluegrass Sigur Ros.
Holy shit! What an album.
Makes one realize that there will always be someone writing and performing brilliant music. Thank god!
“That was really pretty” amen brothers

I think this might be my favorite track on the album. Which is really saying something, considering the entire thing is fantastic.
Damn I’m impressed by the camera operator, they knew every cue of that song

One of the few bands I'll go watch live multiple times
Every time feels like the first time 😭
hiiii :) I'm here because of "3 blue 1 brown" and I like you guys!! :)
That little harmonized violin/bass part at 3:50 is not only my favorite part of this song, but quite possibly my favorite musical moment of the album. I cannot get over how beautiful this is, especially considering it's being recorded with a single microphone.
Well, almost...but that Wunder 49 does a damn good job, helps to have musicians that balance themselves too!
Andrew Weitz cool info! The Neumann I know, never heard of the other mics you mentioned
These guys deserve so much hype. Legends
so much love from million miles away, from istanbul to punch brothers. you are great.
This is a Beautiful Arrangement!!

I really love this new album of theirs. God I love this band so dearly.
Pulled a little bit of magic from the fiddle. Love the whispers.
These guys are on a whole 'nother level that I'm not prepared for.

Don't look up
It'll break the spell
You'll miss it when it's gone and no one knows when it'll come back around
So love it like it's going out of style
Don't look down
When you're on the edge
We all lose faith
But miss it when it's gone and love
It's always gonna come back around
So miss it like it's going out of style
Singing oh
When we grow up
We'll have it all
Singing oh
(Don't look back)
When we grow up
We'll have it all (there's nothing there)
Yeah, oh when we grow up
It moves so fast
Chase it when it's gone
And you can miss it when it comes back around
Our true love is reflected in the change
We embrace for one another
Our true selves live forever in the change
(Live forever in the change)
We affected one another
So forge ahead
Knowing you just have to miss me when I'm gone and love
I'm always gonna come back around
'Cause I love you like it's going out of style
If humanity had any hope - these guys would be much more famous :) There is more talent in this room than just about anywhere
Tears again, this is perfection. Thank you gentlemen.
Beautiful
This is not only an amazing song, but one of the best one mic recordings I’ve ever heard. M50 and a tight band for the win
Outstanding just simply outstanding
This song is just so gorgeous.

I am so excited for this album.

It's so nice how the camera catches Paul Kowert's bow!
These guys are just so talented, such a beautiful piece of music.
Since the first live show over 10 years ago, to any video I watch to this day as soon as they start playing together I get goosebumps, just feel so beautifully alive. ♡
man, outstanding musicianship... you guys are an example of togetherness and truthful playing, this level is just at the top!
i know you were just here, but I can't wait to see you in Michigan again!
The whole album has a beautiful gentle feel. They play like whispering. Their best work in years.
The brilliance! ❤❤❤

Love the production and camera work on these videos, really nice. Who shot them? X

I hope Thom Yorke appreciates Chris Thile as much as Chris Thile appreciates Thom Yorke.
Sorry I don't get it. But my insomnia is cured, thank you.
Am I the only one who gets a Wes Hightower from Urban Cowboy vibe from Paul Cowert?
Thank you askreddit
