Nice test footage with lots of variety, I like how you emphasized that there will be lower quality from the lens guard but that’s expected. We can’t expect it to be the same quality, but it’s there to protect the lenses. Great job putting this video together Kristina

but artifactual lines such a visible and will definitely reduce the overall impression of the footage.

Excellent review! However, if you had held the 360 cam correctly, you could have avoided the majority of those issues. For instance, hold the side of the cam with the stitch line towards the main light source (i.e., the sun). This will result in equal exposure for both lens sensors, and the issue will be resolved. 🙂
Good point, thanks for the tip! I do a lot of dynamic movements and don't want to worry about the angle of the camera as much. so I filmed the way I normally would without the lens guard 😁 if that works for you, that's great and thanks for sharing!

Great review. I also bought one of these premium lens guards. It does protect the lens well but, as you pointed out, it does cause some distortion. I could live with the distortion but I decided to return it because I thought it was too bulky. The lens guard partially covered the usb-c port so I couldn’t plug in the external mike adapter with the lens guard on. I also could not find any protective case for the x3 that would work with the premium lens guard.
Thanks Joseph for your comment! Yes honestly the distortion is a little too noticeable in my opinion, so I don't use the premium lens guard for vlogs. I only plan to use it when I am taking action shots/doing sports and I want to protect the lens. That is true too, no protective case when the lens guard is on. Good call on your end, glad you tried it and determined it wasn't for you 😁
I think you are right, it is a good idea that you want to test out the lens guard and create vlogs to see if the lens guard is worth it or not. hopefully, it isn't too distracting to take away from your high quality vlogs. we will see, looking forward to your upcoming videos!

lens guard are made to guard the lens..i use it when camera is subjected to high speed movement, like on a car, motorcycle, bicycle. walking and other slow moving shots i sometim use, but mostly i dont...im not into vlogging, i just wana capture moments during travels..so i dont usually mind some artifacts on the video, not unless its soooo bad that its not usable

Very nice your explanation, thank you very much, I have an X3 and I put the simplest protections, they also cause a difference and a lot of reflections, I was thinking of buying a premiun, but I see that the problem is the same ;(
aww yeah there are pros and cons haha seems like there is always a decrease in quality when using protection for the lenses unfortunately. there was a setting that I was told to use to reduce the reflections, so I will test that out once I edit the footage I currently have! 😁
Hello, which stitching profile did you use when producing the reframed video? I know there's a setting for sticky lenses, but it seems this would act more like the dive case. Just curious if changing the stitching setting would help fix some of the leftovers from the guard. :)
sorry for the late response, this comment slipped through and I didn't see it! I used the stitching setting for premium lens guard. and I also turned on optical flow stitching and chromatic calibration to help remove the stitchline in the video (under stitching optimization settings). hope you find this information helpful, and thank you so much for watching!!

So the lens guard seems pretty good but the lines you pointed out make it hard to consider as an option. It is nice that you detail the issues with the guard but I think for me it kind of makes a good video not so good. The sticky lens guards seem like an option but even they have similar issues. Good video thanks for posting. The moral of the story be careful with the camera. Are you considering the X3?
Good point! I see where you're coming from, but it does reduce my stress a lot when filming and going out to record 🤔 I'll see how the vlogs turn out once I get to them! maybeee don't wear your glasses/contacts when you watch my next couple videos? 😂😂 yeah I was looking for more solid protection, so went with the premium lens guard instead. I've heard of similar issues with both. and no, I am not considering the x3 yet. I feel like I just got the X2 and am very happy with it. There are always newer and better versions that come out with every product, but I love what the X2 is doing for me so far! are you considering the X3??
