@@TheAccidentalViking Well, the whole thing is absurd. If a 14 year-old deliberately poisons someone using drano or bleach or similar procured from his home, we do not prosecute the parents as complicit.
The reason I ask is because this practice of prosecuting parents for homicides committed by minors skips over thousands of homicides perpetrated by black minors to only target white families. When I ask why this is, the excuse I'm given is that the firearms used by black minors are presumed to come from nowhere in particular and are not the parents' responsibility to secure. So we can only know whether a gun used by a minor in a homicide was one that a parent should've secured is if the gun was legally registered. Which would be a structural racial bias in such prosecutions.

Of course the parents should be held responsible! Especially in a society that goes on and on about how the government doesn't have the right to restrict any citizen's "constitutional" right to have whatever kind of gun they want in their house. You can't have it both ways. Either you support REASONABLE gun laws or you accept the responsibility that not supporting these laws begets.
Unfortunately, half the country has made the latter choice and then has the gall to turn around and deny their obvious contribution to crimes like these.

Actually most opinion polls show that 60-70% support reasonable gun control, so the 2A absolutists are actually in the minority. But via lobbying and being more vocal, they've captured politicians' loyalty and enjoy disproportionate influence. So instead of actual solutions, we have these officials always reverting to "thoughts and prayers" as useless band-aids, and here in this incident, starting yet another meaningless salve by glorifying the teachers and victims "as heroes" (which they may well be, but it didn't protect them nor will it bring them back). Maybe I'm cynical, but in this case the frequent appearances by the same cop leaders and politicians seems just PR for them.
I don't object going after egregiously irresponsible parents who don't rein in their kids or even give them firearms as weapons negligently, and perhaps it will have a small deterrent effect, but punishing some parents (not applicable in most of these shooting) will NOT fundamentally solve the problem. Mass school shootings are not unique to our country, but we do have the most incidents BY FAR, and the key difference between us and other countries that don't have the same problem or same degree of a problem is gun availability. Whether one is for or against gun control vs. gun rights, that is the undeniable truth and reality. So far we as a society as a whole have lacked the will to come up with feasible solutions, or more accurately and sadly, have given up on trying. We're numb.

@justinfleming5119 actually, Mr. Gray was only arrested because he KNOWINGLY allowed firearm access to his son. He probably felt entitled to do so based on his beliefs about the 2nd amendment.
Most Black parents feel no such privilege. Instead, like any other race of parents, they love, care for and discipline their children; and, like every other race of parents, can be negligent for one reason or another. Either their parents completely neglected and failed to care for their child, or they actively encouraged their children to pursue violence and evil at every turn. Either way, both Colt and his parents are equally responsible for this. Most of the people who disagree with this *are* the parents who are too busy neglecting their children and spending too much time online “defending gun rights,” or whatever it is they *think* they’re doing.

Was it proven the father gave him the gun as in not kept in the safe? If not this is a make em feel like were doing something charge. We still dont have the reason this was done, why shield this manifest? Im not buying the father gave him the gun to keep in his room unsecured. Then ask what about the dealerships or people who sold the cars involved in deaths. Root numbers of what's the most impactful killer, shows your on emotions thinking. Not rational perspective. By the way medical malpractice/drugs and cars affect far more teenagers in fatalities. The video here they say they stopped the others making threats by acting on the report. Police did not come to the school in this case even though it was known.

The FBI spoke to the father about the threats his son was making online some time prior to this. Dad told the officers the son doesn't own a gun but he does. And then Daddy-oh went and bought his son a gun. I'd say that makes the father more responsible for these deaths than his son. No one wakes up one morning and just decides to solve their problems, whatever they may be, with a gun. The situation evolved and no one did anything to stop it. His dad actually helped his son become a murderer by buying his a gun. I don't know if a law is going to fix something like this or stop it from happening again. I wonder if mental illness runs in the paternal line of the family.
