Mahalo. Kingfish are our most common pelagics, and they are providing us with a lot of fun lately. The limit is two, but I don't mind releasing them if they keep biting. Aloha from Texas.
In the Corpus Christi area you can drive on all the beaches, and if you see a rig from the beach you can launch through the surf and get to it. We like rigs where several are close together to maximize our chances.
What mile marker is that rig? We did the bwkc yesterday which was my first time btb it was awesome went over by the mayan princess. Couple small kings threw them back since they weren't winning fish. Any way I want to do more of this before winter. Any advice would be helpful thanks
Ribbonfish or lipped trolling lures (Rapala Magnum type baits). Look on my page for the leader video for how to make up the leaders for ribbonfish or big live baits. Thanks for watching!
Glenn Madden Okay thanks. Is that a kayak you would recommend to a beginner kayak angler who would primarily be fishing in the bay? If not, what would you recommend. I'll be joining my college's competitive team whilst in Corpus Christi so I want to make sure I have something that's good
Glenn Madden Also, do you know where I would be able to find that yak? Would I have to order it or...? Also, do you need a trailer to haul around a kayak? I have a truck with a fairly large bed, so could i just stick it back there, or would that damage the kayak?
Blake B The Raptor is ideal for deeper water. If you plan to stalk fish in the flats in water less than five inches deep, you might want to consider a different design. The Raptor has two keels in the rear that keep it tracking very straight, but they stick deeper into the water. If you plan to fish over oyster reefs or very shallow water it's not the best design for those conditions because of the keels. I would check with Texaskayakfisherman.com. They have lots of people who are very helpful, and if you describe the type of fishing you plan to do, they can help you choose a design that will work best for that type of activity. Your truck should work just fine for hauling a kayak. You might need to get an extender that plugs into the hitch to offer support farther out, but many kayakers haul their boats that way.

We call them the five mile rigs because they're five miles down the beach, near the 4wd sign.

What kind of kayak do you have? I'm thinking about getting into kayak fishing when I move to Corpus Christi
For the last year I have paddled a Santa Cruz Raptor. I really like how it handles the surf and its stability.
