Hahaha did SharkBait put you up to that reel? Man, I landed a measly 37" king on my new Cabelas Salt Striker and it felt like I had a tourney winner that day. First offshore fish on a spinning reel... what an intense fight man. Night and day compared to my Penn 309s. Took me like 20 minutes, when it was 37" I was like WHAT?! Sweet video man, I want to get a cobia so bad!
I kept it in the low position the entire time. If I had been fishing the flats and shallows, a higher position would have been an advantage but in the deep open waters it wasn't worth the decrease in stability. A comfortable chair though, for sure!
The 44" cobia on my trout spinner and 12lb line the other day was a fun fight and really had me in the underdog position. The Fin-Nor is up to any challenge, and it makes casting topwaters easy. I want a big king flying high out of the water when he hits the bait... and I want to see it! I think the Fin-Nor will replace the 309 in my lineup from now on.
The Cuda is heavier and slower but stability is similar. Both have access to a large space inside the hull but the Stealth fish hatch will fit rods too and is separate from the main hull. As a plastic hull the Jackson is more durable and affordable, but it doesn’t have the lively feel of a Stealth. If you are paddling less than 12 miles or fishing against rig legs the Cuda may serve you well, but for longer trips on open water or ugly surf you just can’t beat a Stealth.
Spinning tackle just adds a little extra challenge. Great job

I was fishing from 2-4 miles off the beach. For our slowly sloping seafloor it means 30 to 55 feet of water.
How was the high seating position offshore in the cuda?
How does the jackson cuda 14 compare to your newer viking kayak?
