I LOVE Solea. When I heard her sing in the Evita rehearsal clips, she blew me away. And not everyone on Broadway can blow you away with their voice simply because Broadway has so many unbelievably amazing singers. Like, to stand out in such a packed crowd is astonishing and Solea did that for me.

8:27 Fun Fact: The reason why Dolly is given so many difficult belting songs despite originally being played by Carol Channing (who is not a belter at all) is because Jerry Herman wrote the part for Ethel Merman (famous belter, obviously). After Merman turned the part down, Channing originated the role and won the Tony for it. After that, I guess it’s just been traditional to cast the part based on acting abilities rather than vocal strength. Ethel Merman eventually DID played the role on Broadway, and Herman was able to bring back some of the songs that had to be cut due to their difficulty.
ALSO: When Carol Channing won the Tony for Hello, Dolly!, she beat Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl. Aaannndd guess who ended up playing Dolly in the movie version???

It can be kinda hard to tell when you don't have 1) a size reference or 2) a pitch reference(violas are just a fifth down from violins)! As a violist I forgive you lol
