I've known about this notebook for a long time and I think they're whole philosophy is pretty cool. Great video and I was very impressed by the ink swab performance.
I’ve looked dingbats for sometime now, and I really do enjoy the elephant, and find it to be the most appealing of all the animals. I would, however, like to see a duckbill platypus as one of the featured animals.
I've always liked the looks of these notebooks, but I was unsure about the paper quality. Thank you for the thorough review. The elephant is definitely my favorite.
David, thank you for all your work. We really appreciate all you do for us, and all your insights really give us rookies a path to walk on. Cheers! Regarding the notebook, my favorite are the elephant and the tiger ones, but I think it’s a great campaign, and all of them are great!
Love their philosophy! Slowly but surely more and more are coming to appreciate Gaia. Love the elephant here, such a noble beast. A dolphin on a turquoise notebook would be great! Thanks for the review and for alerting me to this brand.
Thanks for the review David. After an initial poor performance experience with Dingbats, I persisted and have been using them since. I believe that I have each of the animal covers. I find the Dingbats notebooks a pleasure to use and they use a coating on their paper that make my fountain pens glide. Plus they lie flat without a problem. I have even folded the hardback notebooks like a paperback and written on the exposed page while travelling. I like the cream colour. All of my inks perform remarkably well.
I love the brown bear notebook it's got a nice natural tone to it but I love the subtle nature of the grey elephant one. I also quite enjoy the pen loop as my current journal performs wonderfully but lacks the convenience of a pen loop.
Thank you for a thorough review of these notebooks. It was the elephant that caught my eye and a further interest. Never heard of the brand before. Really happy to see that the paper could handle the proportions of ink.
I really like that gray elephant notebook, and the cream paper looks like a perfect fit! I'm also pretty impressed with the lack of bleed, and the narrow ruling. I like anything under 7mm for lined notebooks. Also, that PC 74 burgundy is scrumptious looking! Sweet! :)
Nice review. BTW, I always use the last page or two of a notebook to test pens and inks because it's rare that you ever get to the final few pages of any notebook. This leaves the front pages pristine for future use or for a give away in your case.
David, another marvelous review. Really liked the close up still shots you provided. Out of all the Dingbats notebooks, I liked the whale the best. The Earth series are quite nice as well.
Nice review. I was looking for notebooks on Amazon a few weeks ago and those caught my eye. I have had many that are not fountain pen friendly. Glad to see these are.
So glad you reviewed these. I saw them on Amazon the other night as I searched for my next journal for my BuJo use. I was wondering how FP friendly they were. Now I know n
Thank you for the review! I’m wondering, what’s the binding like? Does it lie flat when opened, especially if you’re open to the middle of the notebook? How flexible is the cover? Thank you also for the history of the company. What a great philosophy! I definitely want to buy the Serengeti notebook for my mom, which would be a good opportunity to penable her as well!
The elephant is such a great cover! I was excited to see you did a review on these notebooks. I have heard of them but hadn’t seen any details on them. Thanks!
The dark, smokey green colour of the stag cover is definitely my favourite! Orange usually has a place in me heart, but not this salmon-ey tone I saw on my screen!
Nice about the transparency regarding the charities. Lemome cork notebooks are also supposed to be eco friendly (at least the cork one). On a side note I'm surprised black and red hasn't been reviewed yet. It's reliable and well made.
I love the elephant, but i love the purple color of the hippo notebook! The great suggestion from 'Dawson Huth' of a polar bear version in white sounds amazing! I would snatch that notebook up in a second! Thanks David for a great review!
These look like they are excellent notebooks. Plus, a cool name. I love the purple cover. But the elephant logo is pretty cool as well. Difficult to give a judgement when something is made this well.
I hadn't heard of this company before. The notebooks look great and I like that they give back to nature! Will give them a try when my current bullet journal is full. Thanks for the chance to win one, I like the elephant a lot. I would love an owl on the cover 🦉
Thanks again for the review and introducing me to the brand Dingbats, which seems to be readily available here in the Netherlands as well. It's good to have alternatives like that. Even though I am a bit more conservative in my colors (especially in office use), the Wildlife Orange Tiger really speaks to me. The Wildlife Purple Hippo is a very close second.
Happy to see this review. I was not familiar with the Dingbats notebooks. I really like that purple hippo. I think they should do a HELLBENDER cover -- in addition to sending people to search the web, it would raise awareness of an important species for those of us in NC and the eastern US.
Looks like the paper functions pretty well. For a second, I thought the purple was an odd match for the hippo. After a few moments thinking of what hippos look like, it makes a lot of sense.
Love the colors, and the simple elastic! I personally would love a hummingbird book! My daughter is attending the University of Alabama this fall, so would love the elephant journal! Thanks for your effort!
I've tried both the earth and animal notebooks. They're in fact A5+ which for them means that they're a bit wider than A5 (even if only a bit). The paper is OK, but obviously no Tomoe River. Oh, and on one of mine the pen loop came off pretty quickly. Probably because it's much tighter on the earth models and isn't really meant for big pens.
I've been buying Maruman, Rhodia, and Clare Fontaine with Maruman Mnemosyne being my primary paper currently. I was recently looking to try something new and didn't know where to begin, so I'll look at getting these next time I'm up to buy some more. Thanks for the review. They look similar to the Rhodia "web" notebooks.
Very cute journals; love the pocket and the elastic ring pen holder. I like the purple cover journal, but I prefer the elephant logo! I'd love to see a lion cover journal. I love & appreciate your detailed reviews, David. Thank you, and also thanks for the lovely giveaway
I like the hippo color and the double helix pen. For a new cover I would suggest the Great Blue Heron model that is a slate blue color....I think the bird tracks inside the cover would be kind of neat.
I like the orange tiger version of their notebook. I was actually looking into this brand for my next bullet journal. Their Earth collection looks to have convenient features. As for weird color suggestion, how about plaid platypus.
Dingbats was my first journal, and I loved it, then I went on to try the Leuchtturm1917, but I liked the Dingbats a whole lot more... Still have to try the Clairefontain one...
An excellent and informative review. I have a Dingbats dotted page Yasuni National Park embossed notebook. They are really well made and the paper is lovely.
Thanks for the review David, paper seems decent and for the possible cover suggestion I think I would like a lion in like a honey colored exterior or a shark with a nice blue colored exterior.
Thanks for the review - I've seen these around but wasn't sure how the paper would hold up, so I hadn't bought one. Good to know they work well. I think it would be neat if they did another series with some of the most endangered animals from various countries - Puffins and Scottish wildcats for the UK, red wolves and sea turtles for the US, the tasmanian wedge-tailed eagle for Australia, etc.
Ooo I do like the whale and hippo. Water animals are fun! Thanks for the review. Also love 1.1 stub pen. I normally prefer an extra fine nib, but that wide one looked fun.
A great review as always, thanks. I would like to see a zebra print in black and white. I am a big fan of Sir Terry, also. And I really like the hippo notebook.
My favorite color isn’t there but I wholeheartedly support the way they make their products, so I’m a fan no matter what color or animal. Thank you David for introducing the brand.
Thanks so much for the review. I appreciate your attention to so much detail. Always look forward to watching your videos. Love & Light from a fellow artist & writer in NYC 💟💋
Elephant is definitely my favorite of all they offer. The deer one looks great too. A white notebook with a Polar bear as it's animal would be cool for them to add to the collection, fits their theme nicely.
I didn't catch if you said this, but in my experience this paper is VERY SMOOTH which I think is desirable for most fountain pen users. My favorite is the Tiger, but I bought the Monkey/Toucan "Earth" series instead for trying to get into Bullet Journaling.
Hi David. What is the line spacing on the lined version? I assume that the dotgrid is 5mm? This is a cool looking notebook, and it's getting time for me to queue up a next notebook. I like the appearance of the stitching on the cover, too.
Thanks David for another great video and giveaway! I really liked the look of the notebooks and may have to order one soon. I think my favorites would be the hippo, deer and whale. I also like the Earth Edition with the Great Barrier Reef. Thanks again and best wishes.
I'm very fond of the whale cover. Thank you for an informative review! I'm intrigued by their commitment to being totally animal-friendly, and hadn't known about that.
They should make a polar bear version in white.
I agree...that would look cool.
A black raven would be cool.
I love that you have good omens just hanging out in the background!!
I've known about this notebook for a long time and I think they're whole philosophy is pretty cool. Great video and I was very impressed by the ink swab performance.

Love their philosophy! Slowly but surely more and more are coming to appreciate Gaia. Love the elephant here, such a noble beast. A dolphin on a turquoise notebook would be great! Thanks for the review and for alerting me to this brand.
Deer in green! I'm surprised how well it performed, and they look very well made!
Thanks for the review David. After an initial poor performance experience with Dingbats, I persisted and have been using them since. I believe that I have each of the animal covers. My favorite color would probably be the hippo! I really like that shade of purple.
Neat review they look well made as far as notebooks go. I would love to see either to try them out. Thanks!
Another great video, my friend! Thank you for giving us a view of this notebook!
Thank you, David. The transitions for the different notebooks was extremely well done.
Thanks!
The hippo version looks really cool. I was surprised how well the paper performed in your tests.
I’m really impress with how the ink sheens on the paper. I only wish they have lighter paper.

Thank you for the great reviews! Getting better and better every time! Loving the details in the review (difference in nibs and ink on the paper)
The green deer has always caught my eye! I love the pebbled texture of the covers, and the QC is really great from what I've heard.
I'll have to look for the red kangaroo one! The purple hippo is also cute, that'd be my pick for this. They look like really nicely made notebooks.💜
I simply must have the Elephant version, so glad to know it is available with blank paper. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, David. I like that grey notebook, big fan. I’ll have to check them out.
I hadn't heard of this company before. The notebooks look great and I like that they give back to nature! Will give them a try when my current bullet journal is full. Thanks for the chance to win one, I like the elephant a lot. I would love an owl on the cover 🦉

Thank you for the review. I've seen the notebooks on the web but haven't seen a review on it. I like the tiger (orange) notebook the best.
Looks like the paper functions pretty well. For a second, I thought the purple was an odd match for the hippo. After a few moments thinking of what hippos look like, it makes a lot of sense.

I think a zebra would be fun. Also, what an interesting idea to make the front and back covers the footprints of the animal on the cover.
Thanks for introducing me to the Dingbats Notebooks- like the elephant
I've been buying Maruman, Rhodia, and Clare Fontaine with Maruman Mnemosyne being my primary paper currently. Thanks for the review! I'm wondering, what is the feathering situation?
In my testing, the paper performed very well...with no visible feathering.
Very cute journals; love the pocket and the elastic ring pen holder. I like the purple cover journal, but I prefer the elephant logo! I'd love to see a lion cover journal. I love & appreciate your detailed reviews, David. Thank you, and also thanks for the lovely giveaway
ña I’d love to see a purple elephant journal too!
@@MarysInks definitely agree with you!!
Thanks for the review! I like the bear in brown best, I think. Would be neat to see a deep olive green...
I haven’t heard of these notebooks. Thanks for the review!

Great review, didn't know about these until now! Have to look into it.
Very nice notebooks! I think I like the one in grey best even though it's not as bright as the others.
Another stellar review. Thanks for bring a “new to me” product to my attention.
Can't wait to see the Pilot Custom video you've got coming soon!
I like the style of these as well as them being eco-friendly. Paper seems to handle well. I really like the hippo.
The book with the whale looks really cool, curious to know what they put as footprints, probably the tail fins.
Thanks for the review David, paper seems decent and for the possible cover suggestion I think I would like a lion in like a honey colored exterior or a shark with a nice blue colored exterior.
My favorite cover is definitely the elephant because it’s my favorite animal ❤️❤️. I love the eco-friendly themes of the notebook.
Thanks for the review - I've seen these around but wasn't sure how the paper would hold up, so I hadn't bought one. Good to know they work well. A great review as always, thanks. I would like to see a zebra print in black and white. I am a big fan of Sir Terry, also. And I really like the hippo notebook.
The bear on brown was my favorite notebook you showed. I would love them to make a rabbit one. Thanks for the review!
Not sure I need another book but these are certainly appealing.
I like the purple hippo. Lol some how that sounds like I have a drinking problem. I also love the blues. I would pick dot grids for pages. Thanks
My favorite color isn’t there but I wholeheartedly support the way they make their products, so I’m a fan no matter what color or animal. Thank you David for introducing the brand.
That (lack of) bleed through is excellent given the amount of ink.
The dark green with the stag is pretty cool. Nice set of notebooks.
I really love the green deer notebook, as that shade of green is my favourite colour. Perhaps a penguin notebook would be a nice addition!
I really like the Tiger cover as I am currently on an Orange kick. I think a Pangolin would make an interesting cover version.
Excellent video as usual fig boot. The Elephant cover is my favourite of all the covers Dingbats makes
Another great video and very interesting product. As always, thanks for the opportunity and keep up the good work!
This looks like something I could write my journals on. Thanks for the nice review.
I love all the tidbits you add to your videos. Both notebooks look great. The purple one makes me think of Hippo Noto.
It seems a bit odd that Dingbats doesn't make a bat notebook!
Great Review. So important that luxury items don’t cost the environment.
I think I missed the deadline...oh darn it! Gotta say, I really love my Dingbats Serengeti. Thanks for the review!
Looks pretty cool. They're around $20, which is about right for a great notebook. Surprised there is not a dog on a cover!
Thanks for the review. Paper is an important part of fountain pens. I like the subdued color of the elephant.
Those notebook looks nice. It's kinda hard to get a good paper here in Chile. The hippo one was my favorite of the two.
The hippo is pretty cool. You don't see that very often. But i think an orange Fox would be pretty cool.
Thanks so much for the review. I appreciate your attention to so much detail. Always look forward to watching your videos. Love & Light from a fellow artist & writer in NYC 💟💋
Thanks for sharing, David. I like both of those - I also thought the Bear was very petty and the Whale!
Elephant is definitely my favorite of all they offer. The deer one looks great too. A white notebook with a Polar bear as it's animal would be cool for them to add to the collection, fits their theme nicely.
Nice review. I am always looking for new notebooks. I like the tiger one. Should I win this draw, the elephant version would be my preference.
I didn't catch if you said this, but in my experience this paper is VERY SMOOTH which I think is desirable for most fountain pen users. My favorite is the Tiger, but I bought the Monkey/Toucan "Earth" series instead for trying to get into Bullet Journaling.
Thanks again for these reviews, Mr. Parker.
Hi David. What is the line spacing on the lined version? I assume that the dotgrid is 5mm? This is a cool looking notebook, and it's getting time for me to queue up a next notebook. I like the appearance of the stitching on the cover, too.
Thank you, David. They've already covered my favourite animals, but I agree with Dawson Huth that a polar bear one would be fun!
I'd like to enter the giveaway.
A nice animal to use for a notebook would be a platypus. Something different.
Tiger Orange for sure! Thanks for the review.
I think a wombat version would be fantastic. Or an octopus maybe. Great review!
Those are really nice notebooks. Thanks for the review!
A series with mythical creatures would be a lot of fun too.
I like the deer but mostly because I like that dark forest green cover. Of the two you have I really like the purple of that Hippo.
Nice looking notebook. I have a thing for notebooks so I might have to get one of them. Great review as always, keep up the great work.
I love the elephant!!!
I'd love a polar bear, which would be so appropriate given Dingbat's advocacy.
