Pretty good stuff. A real bug out bag takes the rule of 3s through 3 weeks without food. I'm more tool heavy and comfort item light in my bag though. No shampoo, or toilet paper tabs, I'll shower again when the grid comes back on line.
I see a lot of people on here complaining about the kit. "way too heavy, your glamping, etc," I think people forget that just because your staying in the woods doesn't mean you need a flint and two sticks. I also think people forget that you're not hiking for miles. You are staying at a base camp. People should appreciate the fact that you are testing a lot of this stuff out too, whether by design or not. For everyone who complains and claims they can do it better - where are their videos?
Damn Chris... you uh... you have enough gear on ya? I bet you won't use half of it. Take advice from backpackers. They tend to cut way down to essentials and are able to improvise the rest of the way. I personally would suggest a few trial runs with all that gear. Start cutting down on equipment each time. By the time you complete those trial runs, the amount of crap you're lugging around would be greatly reduced. If Fowler can do it with 10 items... I'm sure you could do it for much less than what you have.
That is an Awesome kit , but what I would bring along is maybe some Tac Bars, and The SAS Survival Guide, just something to read before going to sleep at night. All n all, you got everything covered, so good luck to you guys and stay safe
Seriously man..2 extra blades for the silky.. lve been an arborist for 20 year's and have had the same blade in my sugoi since 2005 with tens of thousands of strokes on Aussie eucalyptus tree's and it still cutting good.. l think its just extra wait mate. But your kit is pretty cool. . Good luck with your trip mate..
One Sawyer mini is *more* than enough for multiple people, for a long time. That water filtration system you have is just heavy and something you wouldn't need. Get two Sawyers for good measure. Also with good machete, axe just seems redundant. Wire saw, which is super compact and light could work lot better for cutting thicker wood. Get some flexible wood and you can make regular saw out of it with tension. Overall there is a lot of unnecessary bulk, weight and stuff. Get some quality ultralight camping gear or just quality camping gear. Watch some videos from thru hikers and you can figure out what stuff works and lasts for a long time. Though one thing I would probably get is something like liquid or canister stove, you can't always get good fire going or it's just not convenient to do so. Not to mention one canister lasts for quite a while and it's really fast. For example if you have done some hunting or whatever and come back to camp tired and late it can really be lifesaver. Also those water filter puches could be replaced by some sports drink mixes or just some salt and sugar packets you get from fastfood places. You already have couple options for water filtering and especially spice packs are good for seasoning food and just as supplement. For pot I would just get something like MSR big titan 2L kettle, super light, durable and you can easily cook for 2 people with it. Combine that with good sized titanum cup. You can use titanium cup to boil water while you cook for drink, and you can use it as plate. I would probably also get really good ultralight tent, with budget of this video it would be a good option. You have shelther that is convenient, can be setup pretty much everywhere and you can do stuff in it. Zpacks duplex tent for example most likely weights about the same as this setup, and you fit two people in there. You can even get it in camo :P *Oh man, it seems like you also have a dedicated saw already. With multiple spare blades... I sure hope forest is still there after you come back :D
I know you are having a good time in your 30-day surviving. Can you keep a record on what you use on the 30-day surviving trip and up date us on what you would change in your Survival bag. I always pack my bag thinking of what could and might happen while I'm out in the wilderness. But when I'm back home I notice what was used and is a must, and what I packed that was not needed, and needs to be removed from my bag in the future. I know that some stuff like for example a First Aid kit even if never used, will always be with me no matter what, I'm not talking about them type of items. What I'm talking about is like the 5 extra Ferro rods, all the fire starting supplies, the two extra blades for your BigBoy 2000 saw and such. Keep track and let us know what you would now change in your gear that was taken after the trip is complete. Thanks Chris.
I've seen a lot of people harping on the cost of this setup. It's not like you went and dropped 7500$ in one shot. This is a well thought out and prepared kit that has been changed and adapted over the years. Keep up the good work man!
Comprehensive kit 😀 Nice to see the repair kits as they do often get forgotten about. I'll be very curious to know how your kit, in particular your clothing, holds out over the 30 days and what if any repairs will be needed. Glad to see you went with the large sized axe too. Makes sense given the 30 day duration. The bug out roll is an awesome system and lays out things really well but keeps them well organised and protected. I'd do little differently to be honest other than the sleep system and shelter. This is due to the different climate here in Ireland compared to your location. I'd bring 2 of 3mtr X 3mtr (10' X 10') tarps with repair materials and two smaller ground sheets. Normally I set up shelter using a single walking pole with a tarp and groundsheet but a hammock system would probably work better for a prolonged period. For me I'd definitely pack extra layers for inside the hammock to insulate against heat loss in wet and windy Ireland.
Whats with all the hate people throw his way? Everyone acts like they’re an expert trying to prove him wrong even though he’s gone on record many times saying he is still learning
With all the items you brought I could live, love and be merry for 30 days easy. Good well balanced items for most things that would come up on your trip. But most of all is the fact that you are actually out there trying those items and getting to know your own limitations. I am planning a trip down there for early next year to look the place over in my relocation plan. Where I live now is way to over populated. Time to head south and relearn the basics. Not trying to troll, but why so much? I can understand wanting to have the best you can afford, but thats way more than most would spend on survival gear.
Most.... but not all. I have maintained this as a solid kit for over and year and putting it to the test now... almost 9 days in. I can tell. The gear helps ALOT! Day to day

Its not something to "break the bank" for, but if you can afford it reasonably, and you enjoy it, then have fun spending the money you earned on your passions. That is the way i see it.
I usually really love the videos you have but sometimes when you go through different bags you do it really superficially and fast for somebody like me that some of the gear is new to me.
