It's nice that you are capable of fixing these.😊 If you ever get a chance to make a video of your doing a cage clean, I'd be very interested. Especially with the sand! Some of your cages are just beautiful and big, cleaning I'm sure is laborious. Yet interesting.
@@evac.705 The sand is the most laborious. I have a video on cleaning sand. The rest of the cage is mostly spot cleaned. Most hamsters will have corner they like to pee so it makes it easier to maintain :)
This is a lifesaver. I read that the 10'' tends to sag, but it was either this or the absolutely gigantic 12" so I took my chances. It was fine at first, but now its rubbing paint off the stand where the friction is (which I dont want my hamster injesting or breathing too much) as well as the sound is awful. I'm pretty tolerant to the sound of wheels, and even squeaking wouldnt be so bad. But it sounds like someone playing drums when the back of the wheel hits that stand and I can tell the way it tilts makes it harder for my little guy to balance on it. For now I just glued a piece of fabric around it to make the friction quieter, but I'll definitely try this trick when I'm home this evening since it seems like a better and more permanent fix to the sagging problem as a whole
I cannot thank you enough! I have been looking everywhere on how to open the yellow bit!! I knew it could open, it just wouldn't! Thank you thank you thank you!! Mine also has the same issue of scrapping the stand, ill try this out for sure! 💖

Thank you. I'm so happy to hear that you could understand. Sometimes I have a hard time explaining things to people. They usually give me funny looks :)
Just a tip to someone who doesn't have all the tools needed for this hack, I find that inserting a thick piece of cardboard between the yellow part and the stand does the trick. Mine is all silent now and no more scraping. I observed my syrian hamster run all night and it stands well. Even my partner who is a very light sleeper didn't wake up from any noise. Finally no more arguing over sleepless nights
Do you mean a cardboard washer? Is it round with a hole to fit over the bolt? Does it hold up for a Syrian hamster? It’s too late for me to try it LOL, but it sounds like a good hack :)
@@HammyTime I just cut up pieces of 1x1" inch cardboard and glued it all together until it is about close to 1/2" thick. Then I insert it at the back under the yellow part. It prevents the wheel from falling down and grinding the stand
Check my channel page for my Comfort Wheel Hack video. It's similar but I attached the spinner to the back of the wheel and used the block of wood to hold the screw and metal stand :)
I'm not sure how to hack this wheel without the spinner and still be able to use the original stand and parts. I don't know how well it would turn if you just used a bolt. It might wobble too much.
Yes, however it really depends on the bearing you use. Some fidget spinners aren't as silent as I would like but you can swap out the bearing for a more quiet one :)
I didn’t make a video of the comfort wheel fidget spinner hack because it’s too similar to my comfort wheel hack. You can follow the comfort wheel hack video but instead of drilling a hole in the wood block to fit the bearings, you drill a hole to fit the 5/16” carriage bolt. Drill a hole in the center of the wheel bigger than the bolt so the head of the bolt does not touch the wheel. Attach the fidget spinner to the back of the wheel with screws, washers and nuts. Insert the bolt through the wheel and fidget spinner with the head of the bolt is showing on the inside of the wheel. Add a nut to the bolt behind the fidget spinner. Insert the bolt through the wood block and add another nut to the back of the block. The bolt will not turn but the wheel and fidget spinner will turn because of the bearing in the fidget spinner. I hope that makes sense. I may make a video of it if I need another Comfort wheel :)
The funny thing is that I sometimes have to watch my own videos to remember how I did something ha ha. I get very focused on a task and once it’s complete I often forget what I did later. Materials used: One inch long 5/16 threaded carriage bolt, two 5/16 nuts, five 5/16 washers, three one inch long #8 machine screws, and three #8 washers. I just added this to the description so I can find it quick if I ever need to hack another wheel :)
Coconut oil will solidify so it will get gunky and probably sticky over time which will make the wheel slower. You can try it. It's safe to use. It should work for a while but probably get sticky and hard to clean off eventually. 🙂
What wheel are you using? Maybe drill the holes a tinny bit deeper? A little bit of hot glue can help it stay in place. If the stand is coming off when your hamster is using it then I would replace the wheel
@@coolwater411 Hmm maybe yours is defective. If you bought it new maybe you can exchange it at the store or website. If you got yours second hand it may not be the original stand. If you can't hot glue it , you can try securing it with sisal twine. Wrap the twine around the yellow piece and the horizontal bar near the base of the wheel. If that doesn't work then you will need to get a new wheel.
If you mean the wheel bounces a bit when your hamster runs then no this hack won’t fix that. The problem is the stand. The wire stand is too thin to support the weight of the wheel and hamster. The wobble is more noticeable for a Syrian hamster, so I used mine for a dwarf. You could change the stand to wood.
I repaired mine with rope and sticky tape and clambed it upside down at the cage. The ax got bended by a dwalf hamster when she felt one or more times because of the too less friction.
I currently have this wheel in the 12" size for my two female rats. They love it, and they run aggressively on it. I've tried it both attached to the wall of their cage and on its stand, and find that when it's on the stand, they move it around the cage too much. On the wall, it's fallen off twice (three times?) now. It seems like when they run on it, they jiggle the yellow plastic bit off and it comes right off. Their weight also seems to bend it away from the wall of the cage, which probably contributes. I really want to try your hack with a fidget spinner! Do you think the bolt for the 12" is the same size?
I'm not sure, but I think bolt would fit the 12". The bolt size I used is the closest fit to bearing on the fidget spinner. One trick that I use to keep the wheel on the stand from moving around is to put a rock on top the stand at the bottom. Maybe 2 rocks would work best to stabilize the wheel for your rats. Be sure to clean the rocks before using them. There's probably a way to rig the wheel to the wall so it doesn't fall but I would have to see it to try and figure it out. If the wheel is spinning as it should I wouldn't try to hack the wheel but rather the stand and wall attachment. Maybe you could leave the wheel on the stand and zip tie or wire it to the wall? I'm thinking that a couple of rocks to hold it in place is the best option :)
Currently the wheel is attached to the stand still, and the stand is upside-down, and I attached it with twist-ties to the cage bars, to give it more stability. The problem is that they run so aggressively, that the yellow plastic screw cap falls off. They've knocked it down twice since I've commented this, haha! It won't stay on anymore, and I think the yellow screw cap is stripped inside, so it won't attach to the bolt anymore. The good news is that, while I put the wheel down like a bowl, they are using it for wrestling matches, which keeps them entertained! I'll have to venture out and see if I can find the proper tools to attach it like you did, where the screw cap isn't holding it together. :)
@@lynnterry6511 Oh how funny! You discovered a great new way to use the wheel ha ha. I wonder if you could replace the yellow cap with a nut. If you can figure out what size the bolt is then you can find the right size nut. I know a lot of people are buying the silent runners on Amazon for about $40, but the maker of those are selling them for $25 on their site and they give you options for what to buy with it making it possibly a bit more or less.
@@mtpstv94 Yes, I have heard that some wheels have broken off. The 10" Silent Spinner is a very poor design. A few years ago the Kaytee company was asked to make a 10" wheel and when they finally did it was a huge disappointment. I hope Niteangle will motivate them to make better products.
Lol. Tweaker? Maybe? Lol. Jkjk. Thnx!
