    there's a bit more to the story from what I heard... Originally, they had to implement something, no matter how bad it was due to a wish from a third party publisher that thanks to both community outcry against the microtransactions as well as the overwhelming financial support they got from people buying the game, they were able to kick the publisher so they could listen to their community and drop the microtransactions because from my understanding they didn't even truly want to add them to begin with.

    • @GlitchedVision
      @GlitchedVision Год назад +27

      oh, figured I'd post this one as a reply instead of editing the original comment but the two dlc packs currently available for the game are the contents of the prior season passes, thus they share the same cost as those passes did however you get all the unlocks at once now, no grind required.

    • @MasterMemo
      @MasterMemo Год назад

      That is interesting. Do you know how they're planning to continue support, or is it just going to be a complete game once early access is over?

    • @GlitchedVision
      @GlitchedVision Год назад

      @@MasterMemofrom my understanding they want to release supporter packs like that for each sizable content drop, think season passes without the grind. I could be wrong on this though so don't quote me on it lol

      @@GlitchedVision oh interesting, so dlc instead of battle pass, so it's just transaction instead of mtx?

    • @GlitchedVision
      @GlitchedVision Год назад +4

      @@MasterMemoyup, the cost is about the same as a battle pass too. Basically, take the grind out of the pass model and it's the same concept. a collection of cosmetic items sold as a complete bundle, (no separate purchases). so yeah, cosmetic dlc, no micro about it. They plan to release a new themed bundle like this to go along with each new sizable free content update. Of course you'll be able to unlock some themed stuff for free as a part of progression but this is mostly for people who want to go above and beyond to support the game. Oh, and no fomo because as long as the game is for sale, all current and previous supporter packs will be available for purchase.

      I'm gonna push back just slightly on this mindset. Now don't get me wrong, I dislike microtransactions and I think it's good that they were removed. BUT!!!!
      What were they doing in there in the first place? I don't know how much they made or if they repaid all the money when making this decision. But I think we should be cautious about rewarding devs/publishers for going back on decisions they shouldn't have made to begin with. And while it's great that people are willing to forgive devs/publishers for their wrong decisions in the past, I think this willingness to forgive is what allows many devs/publishers to get away with the "release now, fix later" attitude. Analogy: An ex-thief shouldn't get more praise for giving stealing than someone who never stole at all.

    • @odioaleman
      @odioaleman Год назад

      @@sitnamkradfrom thr interwebs it seems they signed a publishing deal that give the publisher some control over the product. Publisher leverage the deal to ask for microtransaction, microtransaction where added while starting a process to remove the publisher and cancel the contract. Contract was cancell, microtransactions got removed.

    • @sitnamkrad
      @sitnamkrad Год назад

      @@odioaleman I know it's not always simple. Especially with new developers. But even then, they "made a deal with the devil" and now decided they didn't want to uphold their end of the deal. Other people are now paying them so they can pay the publisher to get out of the deal. Everybody still pays, and the publisher is still rewarded money for scummy behaviour. It may be better than microtransactions, but still not a situation I'm particularly fond of.

      @khavacado8406 Год назад

      Sometimes it may come down to needing funding or just it not happening. If it’s a do or die kinda thing and they have to make an unfortunate deal for a while, it seems like the best of two bad choices.
      No clue if that fits their scenario, but I can’t denounce something if it was needed to make the game actually happen (in a reasonable timeframe at least) instead of just fizzle out

    10:00 I've actually been playing a lot of inkbound recently, and can confirm and clarify a few things: 1: splat is 100% right about solo being fine. I've actually maxed the season rank completely solo. 2: the auto attack arrows go to whoever hit them last (only important if an a group, obviously) 3: the "land mines" are actually markers to let you know where the next monster spawns are... though they then immediately move so the only real thing about them is you can't move into them. 4: "maxing out abilities to ascend them" means you start with 3 of 5 abilities, once you get all 5, any you get after will ascend one of your current abilities. I hope this helps!
    edit: actually forgot an important one: default alt key switches to a "full info" mode that will give more info depending on context. for example: holding alt while no ability is selected will show you how much hp enemies will have left after dps debuffs like poison and bleed. not well pointed out but really useful to know.

Aren't that many games that share a similar style. The ps1 definitely couldn't handle the depth of all the stats/ abilities though. This game took it to another level! Thanks for highlighting this shift they did! I ended up getting this at launch even with reservations about the micros because of how much I adore Monster Train. This was such a happy surprise when they announced the change.
    On the note of the current season pass, I wonder if they'll do it like they had with the previous ones that were paid, and that even if you don't finish it during the 'season' it stays there and you can choose which one you're working towards completing. So they might just pile up like that now, or get folded into the rewards pool.

In this video I am able to look at the game, examine the UI myself, see what you're doing etc *while* you talk, and that's what I'm here for. Watching just a menu screen while you talk for 3 minutes just isn't in the cards for me though, even though I always find your commentary great there's just an insatiable caveman itch in my brain that's screaming "youtube no for audio only! youtube promise video!", lol.

It's follows the same pick 2 zones, then boss area as the quick play, but it adds modifiers that you can see when choosing your path, and you get extra kwillings based on the difficulty of the mods. It's only "longer" in the sense that you'll be playing more slow and deliberate.

    The microtransactions in the game weren't thought through and the devs admitted as much and improved things shortly after release. Essentially they just copied popular game monetization and admitted they didn't think of their implications like FOMO and apologized for it. The lengths they went to afterwards to rectify that were just incredible.
    I personally believed their first steps were good enough and the way microtransactions were before their removal was okay, but the change is still a very welcome and appreciated improvement.

    Im hoping this gets seen so I can add some clarity to the situation, as I was there for the Dev broadcast when they announced the change and I was very VERY curious as to why because I am very anti Microtransactions. Theres also some misinformation in the comments I want to clear up. I adore this game, and have put nearly 100 hours into it.
    So for context - The game had a Battlepass system and it orirginally put me off it (Even though I loved Monster Train dearly) as I HATE FOMO systems in games. However, they did implement the best version of the Battlepass I had ever seen - There was no FOMO. You could purchase the previous seasons BP and progress it whenever you wanted and actively could switch progress on different BP's with a click of a button. I actually liked that, anything non-FOMO is better than any other microtransaction ive seen so I was "okay" with this, as it was the best implementation i've ever seen.
    The reason the Devs removed the Microtransactions however, and im more than willing to go find the clip of the twitch vlog for proof if needed, was the fact that just by dint of having Microtransactions was a huge barrier to entry for people not trying the game. Their stats and feedback had showed there was a lot of wishlisting but people automatically heard "Battlepass" and "Microtransactions" And were put off by it instantly. What the Devs have found since removing the microtransactions is a big uptick in sales, and they plan to support ongoing development with DLC Cosmetic packs. It had nothing to do with kicking any publisher away or anything of the sort.
    Overall it was a huge, amazing change for the game and one that has only made the game -better- (Lots of cool cosmetics to unlock ingame now.) The game is incredible fun and im still having a blast with it. Huge recommend.

    I appreciate the rambling. What producer do you know that has removed all microtransactions. I probably buy this on principle alone.

    Not to be that guy, but Shadow of War also removed all Microtransactions 8 months after launch.

    Love the game and the act of removing the microtransaction, but 9:23 - it is not very easy to figure out what is happening. Its very colorful and at times there is just too much on the screen. You can figure it out, but it is not very easy.

    Wish the name of the game was in the title of the video, would make it easier to remember the game to look it up later.

    Warframe also removed specific microtransactions when they found some players dumping $1000 into it.

    Hey Splatter, what do you think of Deep Rock Galactic and their 100% free season-based Battle Passes?
    The Battle Pass is free, and whatever cosmetics you don't manage to unlock during the season get added to the free loot drop pool(obviously with low drop rates as they add them to an ever growing loot pool).
    Yes, they have paid cosmetic DLCs, but every seasonal content update, which are essentially big DLCs, are entirely free.
    Personally, I love their approach. They provide FREE new/fresh content every few months, and if you want to thank them you can buy entirely optional cosmetic loot.
    As someone who is VERY picky about developers who charge for cosmetics and DLC, I simply cannot fault the DRG developers for their approach. I think their approach is very respectful and pro-consumer, which is probably why their fanbase loves them so much.
    What do you say to that?
