Caught a quick glimpse of something named "Howling Sand" in there. Not hard to guess where the inspiration for the names of these new colours came from :D
That was a key factor in why we implemented this. We actually receive messages frequently from colorblind hobbyists asking for advice so we think this will be a big help.
Same here. I absolutely hate it when companies name their paints "Fluffdruff blue" and similar. That doesen't tell me anything, and as a colourblind person I really want to know what the paint contains.

So many companies sling around statements like "we go the extra mile for our customers", but I honestly can't remember a time that I've seen action being put behind those words before. I am SO excited and impressed to see you prove you're different, Army Painter! Speedpaints have been a bit of a revelation for me, without them I would probably not have been able to get back into the hobby after my 15+ year hiatus. They take away all the pressure to perform and just let me enjoy the experience. And not only are you massively expanding the range, you are also doing it in a completely transparent and engaging way. Thank you! I'm super excited to follow your progress!

Even if you don't hit every single mark, the fact that we can see you actively improving your company and practices makes the world of difference. Please keep up the hard work! Can't wait to see the end product 😁
Seeing the care and genuine passion all of the team has for your products is so amazing. It’s one of the reasons I have switched exclusively to Army Painter and do not regret it at all!
Absolutely fantastic work guys. Not only does your transparency show that you aren't "perfect" but that you are willing to take practical advice and LISTEN not just to the PDT but to the community as a whole in what they are looking for. I will always champion you guys to all my friends and I truly look forward to seeing how your products continue to improve and all the new stuff you have in the works.
I have a ton of army painter items, including speedpaint. You guys are a great company sharing information like this! I buy everything through my LGS to support them and appreciate how you guys approach your business. Keep it up!
20 years in the miniatures hobby and I've been using The Army Painter products pretty much since the day they became available, never regretted a purchase but this year has been huge for you in terms of customer service/outreach. Really love the work you're all doing!
I’ve recently purchased a couple of AP Speed Paints and found that I prefer their coverage to contrast, despite me already owning a hefty amount of the contrast range, your company’s transparency throughout this process basically guarantees I’ll be buying the updated speed paint mega set. So refreshing to see!
I love your speed paint line. Naming convention is a great idea and will really help. I can't wait for the new releases. This is my favorite way to paint. Make them look good quick, then get to the table already. I want to play. All this transparency, love it.
I'm really stoked about the new range expansion. Tbh I think the whole "reactivation" issue is overblown. But as a product manager I'm so glad to see you taking feedbacks and making your product universally loved!
It’s only possible to think it’s overblown if you don’t use washes, do any layering, or any highlights. You’re right that if you use them truly as a one coat and then done paint, then there’s no issue. But if you put an agrax earth shade over a model painted in speedpaint, all the paint comes off…
@@GutsBerserk-jc9lh Definitely don't brush on varnish. That will cause problems. You can spray varnish for sure, but do it from a nice distance, with a lower pressure can. Like for example, Citadel spray varnish might be a bit on the high pressure side. If you do it from too close, you can definitely end up shifting some paint.
To be honest, I personally have had very little problems layering over SpeedPaints, and I’ve used the A LOT. I guess I’m just careful with them or something?
I love the openness of this campaign, especially including youtube content creators! I started buying AP when I saw these videos and haven't looked back. I also do have a request on some speedpaint color options. More 2 tone colors please, like your current malignant green or zealot yellow. I would love these for special effects.
Absolutely loving this whole process. I like others in the comments have partial color blindness. I can usually tell there are color differences but I cant tell you if one is more red or green etc in some cases. The practical naming will be a godsend! I got into painting earlier this year for the first time using your speed paints. Im totally hooked! I can't wait to see what else you guys come up with. Ive had really good luck tinting silver metallic with SpeedPaint on top so I'm curious about their own product. Keep up the great work!
This is so cool how you’re welcoming the customer base in to see the development and work done for this. The care and desire to deliver and improve is a huge reason that I’m going to give army painter paints try again.
Last few seconds of the video made me stand up and yell "FUCK YES!" Finally a manufacturer tackles this idea! Seen it homemade (the freaking wizard Marco Frisoni), but consistent in a bottle? Yes please!
You have gone above and beyond when it comes to listening to customer feedback! I hope that you maintain this level of transparency :D (no pun intended)!
I have been consistently blown away by the quality of products coming out of army painter recently. You guys are making painting easier and fun. It feels exciting buying and using army painter products. You are carving a name and niche into a crowded market and you are doing a great job. Your spray paints are superb quality; I had the pleasure of using my first can this week. The basing options you sell are superb! The grass tufts are especially good quality, thanks to the huge range of colour options. The mixing bottles even have mixing balls in them!! Overall I am excited about what you guys are doing. Thanks!
Honestly, I was not huge into any one paint brand until recently. Between my personal experience using my existing paints, availability, and cost, grabbing whatever on sale was fine for me. Since seeing AP actually owning where their paints could be improved or tweaked, I've been shifting more to replacing colors with those from AP as old pots/bottles run out. Not only has there been a "we hear you video", the involvement of prominent painters on the platform who have been very open about their thoughts on the paints tells me it's more than just "hearing". I feel like AP is a company that's LISTENING and looking to demonstrate it. The range of creators involved shows that there was some thought put into what each participant brought to the table. I follow all of the channels, but Dana Howl's coverage rang through to me most. I love me some bright colors, and Dana's style, process, and commentary reached me most effectively. From my perspective, AP is a company that cares what their customers care about. It really feels like they want to communicate so that they can better understand how to bridge the product as it exists with the product as it is expected by the people who use it. In a market that is saturated with companies who don't seem to care, or respond to criticism like they've never had an ounce of PR preparation, AP has gotten me onto their team pretty solidly. As someone who paints to paint and not to play, I want to say very clearly that I appreciate what you guys do and how you do it. I also wanted to throw it out there that not all paints are perfect for all uses, and that's okay too.
Wow, the connection to community and consumers, the transparency and *authenticity* of the process, are so greatly appreciated. Definitely influencing my purchase decisions. I prefer you take the time to focus on quality, just keep us updated like this. Speed paint metallic, lol... Brent's suggestion was an excellent one, glad you incorporated it while also keeping the creative names, wonderful outcome.
This is absolutely the best thing I've seen done by any hobby company for a product design. I will 100% be purchasing this entire line as soon as I can. I LOVE this process Army Painter thank you guys.
Fantastic work guys! AP was my first painting set and still my favorite! Thanks to you I got a hobby for life. It saved my sanity during the worse period of the pandemic and now I hope to pass this hobby to my young daughter one day, cheers!!!
It's like a mini series: The Speed Painting upgrade, Season1, on Network. Is there reality show drama coming? Chairs being thrown? Crying? Are you going to vote off a paint? I tease, of course. I appreciate any company trying to improve their brand in this highly competitive miniature business :)
I am definitely picking up these updated speed paints when they come out! The honesty is so refreshing and is building so much more confidence with all Army Painter products. Thank you!!!
Bravo. Thank you for the continual communication, transparency, and inviting the community to the process. I'm saving up to buy a couple of every color once the new version/formula comes out.
When I first started painting I bought the army painter metallics set and I created some awesome stuff. I can't wait to see what metallic speed paint does
There is one paint I saw on Watch It, Paint It called, "Nuclear Sunrise", and I demand that name stay that way. Such a dark name for an orange, I love it! Brent might want practical names, but I want fun names like "Murder Scene" and "Caribbean Ocean". When I think of these names, I can relate the color in my mind better compared to dark green and light green. It just sounds like green to me.
One thing I would love to see is a forum on your site for us historian painters, where if we find the perfect colour with mixing a couple different paint together for certain uniforms and such. I can't wait for all the new colours coming down the line. Painting my WW2 stuff will be a lot faster
Man, so happy with how you're doing this, and so hopeful about stuff coming up. The clear labels I didn't even know I wanted but I love it existing already. Keep it up ^_^
Wow a mention of speed paint metallics! As a novice Painter, I have always been curious about the concept. Yes, all of your ethical, consumer-driven and transparent business practices have me coming back to you all for more!
I really appreciate that you folks are working very hard to show your process behind the scenes, and what I am seeing is a strong and concerted effort to create a line that really meets the needs of the miniature painting community. This makes me very much look forward to when these paints hit the shelves in future.
Flesh tones. You guys blew me away with your skin tone set - I immediately pre ordered. I was disappointed to see you didn’t follow through with your speed paints with the save variety of shades and naming constructs. The young lady, Dana, on your feedback team mentioned it in one of her videos about your new formulas and colors. I know I’m not alone in hoping you take heed and know you have fans of all races and representation matters especially in TtRpgs. We are here, would love flesh tones that actually say flesh tones and love you too. Keep up the good work.
I know that we have changed names on certain new SP for this reason, based on Dana's feedback. We wish we had seen it ourselves first, obviously - but we're so focused on the formulation and completeness of the range that these things can slip. But we heard the Howl(ing) and stand corrected... 🙂
Good things need time. Never change guys! And don’t be sorry! The community can wait, in fact, with things like colorblind friendly markings you’ll got their back! 🙌🏼🌞❤️
I appreciate how the process looks like here, the naming suggestion is very good one. Even though I have issues with some of the warpaints, I still keep an eye out what you're coming up with. Basing materials and tools are excellent though.
Honestly what I’d like most would be a brighter purple, and more dark colors. But that second one might just be me usually using speed paints as shadow-mid tones and then adding on highlights with other paints Naturally, I love the Speedpaints I already own - There’s one or two painting projects that I wouldn’t even have taken on if I hadn’t bought that set of speedpaints as soon as my LCS had it in stock (after I spent about half a year pestering them about when it would finally be out)
I seriously love how open, honest and genuine you guys are. Just makes me want to buy more of your products. Can't wait for the new speed paint range 🤘
I'm greatful to have jumped into your product range a couple years ago. It allowed me to get fully into the mini painting hobby. It's been amazing watching your growth! Keep on staying awesome.
This is EXCELLENT! I didn't realize Adam was involved in this project, but should have realized it made sense. Adam has always been generous with Southern Fried Gaming Expo in Atlanta and MACE in Charlotte, NC.
HOWLING SAND! Easter Egg spotted! big wish list is that very color! i'm so Excited! In addition, Brent's feedback is so valuable, sure appreciate all he does for the hobby!
Honestly you guys will always have my business. I love how you guys are involving the community, makes me feel like you guys are a team that wants to make great hobby stuff and not some corporate meat grinder with its eyes on only profit.
In addition to the generic names, which I greatly appreciate, I myself would like to see pigment codes such as PBr 7, PV 19, etc. I believe these are called Color Index Generic Names, and they’re common on artist paints. While identifying pigments/dyes this way doesn’t tell us exact hues, listing them on the bottle can give us painters a better idea of what’ll happen if 2 paints are mixed together.
I got back into painting after a 5+ year break and needed to buy paint. I bought the Speedpaint set and have really been enjoying using them. Super happy with them and looking forward to new colors.
Definitely do especially mark single-pigment paints in the range, so we can further customize at home for special purposes by mixing paints without losing too much saturation.
The nature of one coat paints is that each has three tones, and metallics two, so single pigments wouldn’t work the way you want them to in a paint or this kind. And there’s a WHOLE different conversation about single pigment acrylics but we will save that one for a different day. 😉
I saw how you I interacted so respectfully with reviews (ie squidmar and others) and even left comments. It made me really impressed and I bought the speedpaint set to paint my first miniature. Thank you! 🎉❤
Practical naming is such a great step forward for the hobby paint industry. We also want/need pigment information. And in a perfect world, ASTM or Blue wool lightfastness ratings.
Army Painter is here for us! I been slowly switching my paint over to Army Painter and couldn't be happier. Makes me Wish I started with Army Painter to begin with.
You did not just drop that bomb at the end there. Man, I've only just started dipping my toes into waters beyond GW's official brand, but I'm already getting excited for the future.
Thoughts: - I'm kinda with Brent on the naming convention. Its annoying, when trying to match colors between Warlord Purple, WTFBBQ Purple, and OMGLOL Purple (all different ranges, obviously), but i get it. If everyone named their paints by the aforementioned naming scheme, it would't be unique to your company. - You need to DO need a speed paint color now, called "Juan Hidalgo Blue" or "JH Blue" - Bonus points for a "Spikey Bits Red" (in the same range) - No way that a metallic speed paint could be created. If it could be done, GW would've done it by now. Although Vallejo Metal Color metallics are the best on the market - if you could replicate that, you guys would do gangbusters on acrylic paint sales - I'm excited for the new colors, but no rush
I would love to see the 17 pigments you sent the PDT released as single pigment options in the range, marked as such. This way we'd know which paints to reach for if we want to mix a new color with maximum vibrancy.
It wouldn’t quite work the way you think it might. Considering they are only for Colour creation and lack flow and consistency. But something to consider.
I can't wait for the release, I've recently pulled out my 2k + d & d minis and have used Army painter exclusively, to repaint them, and more colors is a bonus!
Brent is not the only individual to be asking for proper practical names. i feel like i sent that suggestion years ago when i bought the full line of D&D paint sets.
Thank you for pulling back the curtain and showing us the process of development. Guess Who isn't a faceless corporation that's doesn't respond to consumer feedback? (Yes - it's the Army painter team) 😉
This is a great video. I'm excited to see the end results! Really makes me appreciate all the effort you guys are going through to bring us a better product. Curious if Jon is still a part of the team as he seems to be suspiciously absent. As always love your product. Keep up the good work!
He had some things come up that prevented him from giving what he needed to the project. It’s all love and it only happened recently. But, his early feedback was considered and we are excited to share the final product with him when we cross the finish line.
Yes, embrace the practical color names! Now it would be great if only a certain British paint manufacturer could do the same. While practical names help with accessibility it also helps when doing something as simple as describing what colors you’re using. Sometimes I really struggle with that since I don’t know really what kind of blue I’m using, for example. It’s also helpful when you run out of paint from any brand to be able to easily get a replacement from another brand than the one you’re used to if it’s out of stock when you’re visiting your friendly local gaming store :)
I'll just keep saying this. Love how you guys are approaching this! Guess I'll just have to order that SP Mega set when it's out. :D Also, regarding the SP Metallics (saw it on WIPI first), sweet!
great news update! i really like AP, the company does a great communication and listen to us if we say something! good to hear, that there are some pastel tones are coming, thats exactly what i would want. and thanks for the ending AP, now i am hyped for speed paint metallics :D but one question: is Ninjon not a part from this project anymore? i dont see him here and there is also no content regarding speedpaint on his channel. whats going on there?
He had some things come up that prevented him from giving what he needed to the project. It’s all love and it only happened recently. But, his early feedback was considered and we are excited to share the final product with him when we cross the finish line.
Is there a timeline already published on when we can expect the new version of Speedpaint to be available? This makes me want to pick up a brush again!
Something else that would really help would be to have each paint translated to an equivalent paint color from traditional colors such as "Primary Yellow" or "Magenta" or "Cobalt Blue" or Dioxazine Purple" or "Burnt Umber" for example.
Finding the open process & working with some great painters from RUclips on the new colours really interesting. Just recently bought the mega set for my sylvaneth army & absolutely love it but some more colours would be awesome. Can’t help myself though still had to do some highlights with war paints also but I love painting anyway but speed paints definitely speeded up the process got it all nearly done in a week 😊. Going to try it after Christmas on my new chaos space marine army with ironically metallic undercoat. So definitely looking forward to see that in the future lol.
Okay firstly i am very happy with every update video we get and i know everything you guys do look like you are halo polishing with the community but the reality is still plain to see that you guys care about product, Brand and the customer and community so thank you for your transparency, i have been rapidly shifting to your paints. the cost save and the ever increasing quality of your paints is outstanding. SECONDLY ! the most important thing is .... where is Ninjons 'meet the team' video, i mean i know who he is but i still have been eagerly waiting this video hahaa ! Keep it up guys - Thomas your my Fave
Sadly, Jon had some things arise and he had to bow out mid-project. His early feedback has been considered as we push forward without him. We hope to send him the finished product and make him proud once we’ve crossed the finish line.
@@TheArmyPainter that sounds like a very reasonable choice as i think his critical feed back will also be important, not to take anything away from the others of course :) Keep it up team :D
@The Army Painter ofc, life does happen and you have to prioritise =) hope so I think he would be an exceptional content creator to worl with, you guys really pulled a great and mixed array of content creators together I am sure lile myself many are excited for the future 😀

Hey totally hyped for this and will go for the complete set again. Now a more maybe stupid question. Did you think about keeping maybe a few colours with the old reactivation? I loved the red, orange and yellow to create flames with the reactivation.
Useful paint names? Victory!!! Thanks for taking the feedback. 🙂 #WizardsOrb
Thanks for the idea!
This will be so helpful. Guy #midwinterminis talks about being color blind, how difficult that makes picking colors. Solid update!

Brent might want practical names, but I want fun names like "Murder Scene" and "Caribbean Ocean". When I think of these names, I can relate the color in my mind better compared to dark green and light green. It just sounds like green to me.
The paints will have both thematic and practical naming ;)
I had to replay the ending, but I heard Speedpaint Metallics!!!! I am so ready!!!
One thing I would love to see is a forum on your site for us historian painters, where if we find the perfect colour with mixing a couple different paint together for certain uniforms and such.
I can't wait for all the new colours coming down the line. Painting my WW2 stuff will be a lot faster
We have some ideas and are already working on some things. Stay tuned.
@@TheArmyPainter awesome. Can't wait to see
Man, so happy with how you're doing this, and so hopeful about stuff coming up. The clear labels I didn't even know I wanted but I love it existing already. Keep it up ^_^
I absolutely LOVE how engaged with its customers TAP is!
The SP brand gave me the courage to pick up painting after a 15 year hiatus, they're very intuitive and fun to use
This is the first paint line that I have bought the whole thing in all of my years as a hobbyist. I may do it again when you release this second round
I can’t wait for a mega mega set.
@@bomoerck8639 thank you! You guys continue to rock!
But that second one might just be me usually using speed paints as shadow-mid tones and then adding on highlights with other paints
Naturally, I love the Speedpaints I already own - There’s one or two painting projects that I wouldn’t even have taken on if I hadn’t bought that set of speedpaints as soon as my LCS had it in stock (after I spent about half a year pestering them about when it would finally be out)
I seriously love how open, honest and genuine you guys are. Just makes me want to buy more of your products.
Can't wait for the new speed paint range 🤘
I love the universal naming idea along with keeping the fun original names. I'm sure the new additions to the range will be well worth the wait.
I'm greatful to have jumped into your product range a couple years ago. It allowed me to get fully into the mini painting hobby.
It's been amazing watching your growth!
Keep on staying awesome.
Honored to be a part of your hobby journey!
This is EXCELLENT! I didn't realize Adam was involved in this project, but should have realized it made sense. Adam has always been generous with Southern Fried Gaming Expo in Atlanta and MACE in Charlotte, NC.
Bravo for using the ISCC-NBS. Well done by guys. Love your stuff and looking forward to the next release! Cheers
Ok I'm getting the set. Supporting this kind of product development, transparency and commitment is important.
Speed paint metallics. Nice one!
A company who listens to their customers, awesome! Love to mix in some speedpaints with all other stuff I use!
This is such an epic move, brilliantly executed.
Candy/Pastel colors are life
I saw how you I interacted so respectfully with reviews (ie squidmar and others) and even left comments. It made me really impressed and I bought the speedpaint set to paint my first miniature. Thank you! 🎉❤
Aww thanks Amber!
@@TheArmyPainter ❤❤❤🎉
Those two roguish (mischievous) grin at the end or "how do I make my competitors sweat". X'D
😂
Practical naming is such a great step forward for the hobby paint industry. We also want/need pigment information. And in a perfect world, ASTM or Blue wool lightfastness ratings.
Army Painter is here for us! I been slowly switching my paint over to Army Painter and couldn't be happier. Makes me Wish I started with Army Painter to begin with.
You did not just drop that bomb at the end there. Man, I've only just started dipping my toes into waters beyond GW's official brand, but I'm already getting excited for the future.
💣
I am a big fan of accesbility in many ways. Thank you AP, this is really helpful when I go about searching for a specific paint. 👍
Thank you for the more general paint color naming.
Thoughts:
- I'm kinda with Brent on the naming convention. Its annoying, when trying to match colors between Warlord Purple, WTFBBQ Purple, and OMGLOL Purple (all different ranges, obviously), but i get it. If everyone named their paints by the aforementioned naming scheme, it would't be unique to your company.
- You need to DO need a speed paint color now, called "Juan Hidalgo Blue" or "JH Blue"
- Bonus points for a "Spikey Bits Red" (in the same range)
- No way that a metallic speed paint could be created. If it could be done, GW would've done it by now. Although Vallejo Metal Color metallics are the best on the market - if you could replicate that, you guys would do gangbusters on acrylic paint sales
- I'm excited for the new colors, but no rush
Why couldn't we be the first to develop Metallic Speedpaints? 🤨
@@jonasthyssen2629 I made that comment before i saw the MM video. The silver/copper paint are still kinda ineffective. The gold is getting there.
The practical naming is such a great move ... And speed paint metallics ... That's innovation!
@@TheArmyPainter fair enough, I can see how that's a problem for SpeedPaints especially.
I can't wait for the release, I've recently pulled out my 2k + d & d minis and have used Army painter exclusively, to repaint them,
and more colors is a bonus!
Honestly, the practical naming is such a great idea.
You are doing a great job Guys. I love your speedpaint and i can't wait for the new formula. Cheers
Big up vote on practical naming. Nice work Army Painter and Brent!
Practical naming is an amazing thing thank you!
Did I just hear „metallic speed paints“???!?!?!?! 🤯😳😍😍😍
WHAT!?!?! 😲
Excited about this!
Just thought about speed paint metallics the other day 🤣 looking forward to your new products.
I'll just keep saying this. Love how you guys are approaching this!
Guess I'll just have to order that SP Mega set when it's out. :D
Also, regarding the SP Metallics (saw it on WIPI first), sweet!
great news update! i really like AP, the company does a great communication and listen to us if we say something! good to hear, that there are some pastel tones are coming, thats exactly what i would want. and thanks for the ending AP, now i am hyped for speed paint metallics :D
but one question: is Ninjon not a part from this project anymore? i dont see him here and there is also no content regarding speedpaint on his channel. whats going on there?
He had some things come up that prevented him from giving what he needed to the project. It’s all love and it only happened recently. But, his early feedback was considered and we are excited to share the final product with him when we cross the finish line.
Loving all of this content. Can't wait for the new items.
I love your paints, I rarely use anything else.
Yay! Now even us with less than perfect color-vision will know what we are doing 👍👍👍👍
Is there a timeline already published on when we can expect the new version of Speedpaint to be available? This makes me want to pick up a brush again!
Not yet! We are still putting the finishing touches on the range. Stay tuned!
@@TheArmyPainter that sounds like a very reasonable choice as i think his critical feed back will also be important, not to take anything away from the others of course :)
Keep it up team :D
@@Andyyybeeeee we’re bummed but life happens! We will find another project to work with him on.
@The Army Painter ofc, life does happen and you have to prioritise =) hope so I think he would be an exceptional content creator to worl with, you guys really pulled a great and mixed array of content creators together I am sure lile myself many are excited for the future 😀
Looking forward to the range.
Wait, where’s Jon? Also, I can’t wait to get my hands on the new colors!! Are you gonna make an “upgrade” pack that only includes the new ones?
He had some things come up that prevented him from giving what he needed to the project. It’s all love and it only happened recently. But, his early feedback was considered and we are excited to share the final product with him when we cross the finish line.
Hey totally hyped for this and will go for the complete set again. Now a more maybe stupid question. Did you think about keeping maybe a few colours with the old reactivation? I loved the red, orange and yellow to create flames with the reactivation.
All colours can be workable for 2 hours before they hard cure ;)
Nice metallic mic drop at the end!
