“All right, this song’s called Cherokee. I’m just sitting here with a parlor guitar in a tee-shirt and a ballcap, but I’m about to blow your mind with a song of immense subtlety and profound emotion. I hope that’s cool with everyone.”
"I still use your old alarm clock."
It's just little things like that that keep me floored by John.
Lost my wife to a brain tumor back in 2013, this song is like gut punch. When he sings the line, “I’ve given up on ever being well” it resonates in every fiber of my being.
I lost my wife about a year and a half ago... I feel ya brother. Keep your head up and push on. Keep your eye on the beautiful things in life like the sunrise/sunset, flowers, trees... remember the good times. I don't know ya but I love ya man.
God bless you and hold you close
God bless you 🙏 brother.
I am so sorry for your loss Samuel. May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you and be with you and keep eternal love in your heart forever and ever ❤️
God bless you.
fuck me, i'm crying my eyes out. That first verse tears me up everytime.
If anyone on this planet posts one negative thing it would show only envy. This is the finest singer/songwriter I’ve come across.
🙏
I mean i hope he gets old...
"I wish you were here to softly say my name, and calm down all the chemicals tearin' through my brain"
Words have never fit a moment in time more than those.
That part makes me cry every time
10/10 beard.
10/10 music.
I believe this man to be "The Real Deal" honest and from his soul to yours & mine is all can say, he should be considered as one of the greats of all time!
John Mabry I agree with you.. he’s already up there in my personal chart
He is.
Im crying as I write this. this man's soul and mine have met in another universe...
Absolutely my friend...
Man if you've ever lost someone you truly love...
John kicks ass.
When my mom died, my dad gave me her old alarm clock.
That line kills me every time.
Benjamin Stair song puts my granny everytime
this song is why anyone would pick up a guitar....why anyone would pick up a pen.

This mans music and lyrics touched my very soul, an artist of the finest tradition, the first ive heard of him
Thats a power Haymaker of a song! If you ever lost someone really close this one can open up to some old unfinished feelings and thoughts. Love it. Take care Mr Moreland
I don't think he's talking to the dead he is talking to the lonely and for that john much love and respect
The lines
"Guess I got a taste for poison
I've given up on ever being well"
Wow. Just wow. This wonderful soul has such a way with words.
This song makes sooooo many memories of all of the things I should've done differently flooding back. It leaves me sweaty, tearful, and spent. As always, John, you sing my life, my soul. Thanks, Big 'un.

when i grill out the fire follows me............makes me want to dance and chant.
I just discovered this man a couple of weeks ago, to say I was floored would be an understatement. I waited about a week to listen to him again just to see if he had the same impact, yes he does. I believe this man is destined for commercial greatness but even if that does not happen, he is an American Treasure, no doubt about it.
“everything you taught me still rattles in my head” 🎶🙌
Bravo John! Love your words and voice.
Don't you give up, ever.

Unreal. Only a troubador can write and compose at this level. 👍
It seems like I'm hearing Springsteen for the first time...AMAZING!

soul music
The first line sets the hook and doesn't let go!
Wow, Awesome 👏
Amazing!
keep it up!
Has anyone else wondered what it's like to bee shot in the hearts?? because this is how it feels,,,
This is a masterclass of poetry and expression of grief. It's intentionally vague. The listener can better relate to the song that way. It also has inside references that remain unexplained that mean something to him, but it's up to you as the listener to derive your own meaning.
fucking amazing, wow
Finger pickin good
Woww...
😢❤
you're the fuckin man!!
🙏💖
I've given up on ever being well!
Top Toni
The lyrics he writes hit like a goddamn bus.
The best emotional singer with Chris Stapelton

Я очень плохо знаю английский язык, но эта песня... Мне кажется, что эта песня про меня.
What style of guitar is that
Pretty sure that’s a Martin HD-28
@@mhpadden It's a Martin 00 28
@@rahang4126 Pretty sure its a Martin 000X1AE or something similar, a pretty cheap Martin but nowadays he plays a HD-28
Anyone know what the word Cherokee means in this song? Like does it have to do with the hope of bringing someone back or what?
Cherokee is a city in OK. I imagine it is where a loved one was laid to rest.

Moreland needs more land to stand on than your regular Joe
Wanna be bob dylan
Here you go if you want to sing along
guess I got a taste for poison
I've given up on ever bein well
I keep mindin the horizon
Diggin for lies I have yet to tell
And I wish you were here
To softly say my name
Calm down all the chemicals tearin through my brain
I don't think I've missed you this much
Since I was seventeen
I'd call you in the morning, but I think this is a dream
Cherokee
Cherokee
Well you'd call those doubts right out of me
I see you shinin through the tree tops,
But don't feel you pulling strings anymore
I still use your old alarm clock
Every mornin I get further off the course.
And don't I hear you speakin in the noises in this house
Airplanes flyin over, shakin all my secrets out
Darlin tell me somethin that I don't already know
I'm aware of where to find ya it hurts too bad to go
To Cherokee
Cherokee
Well, you call those doubts right out of me
It felt like the world was burnin
You had stars in your eyes
Shinin for a feelin that I can't afford to buy
Everything you taught me still rattles in my head I'm stayin off of Main Street,
You're talking to the dead
In Cherokee
Cherokee
I wish you'd call these doubts right out of me
Thanks! John, you really got it right through my brain, heart and veins
