Winter Solstice... I read it years ago, I read it again last winter, and it's one I'm keeping forever. I love EVERYTHING Rosamunde Pilcher wrote. RIP Rosamunde.
I bought Winter Solstice in a "library store", because I had heard SO MANY good things about it AND the author. I have not read it yet. I plan to read it in Jan. Little Women is my absolute all time favorite book. I collect copies of it and that is a beautiful edition you found! I am originally from New England, grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts Revolutionary War started there. Concord, where L.M. Alcott wrote Little Women is one town away. I have been in her home, Orchard House, so many times, I could give the tours! Many literary greats from Concord and Mass. After reading Little Women as 12 yr. old I became very interested in her life and have many bks. about her, plus her journals. She had a lazy, foolish father who did not provide for her family and she grew up poor. Emerson provided much for them, like Orchard House! THAT was the main reason she started writing, to provide for her family as well as loving it. She had her father living in Boston at the end, they died one day apart from each other. I have read the Library, good but at some points boring. The Kitchen Boy, also. Sad, but interesting. To this day, I still read Winnie The Pooh for fun, when I need a cheerful or are down. I love Winnie. I think my personality is Eeyore. I love tea and sometimes I would say to my grandchildren," Time for a little something!" and we would have tea and a sweet. I often say"oh, bother". I love to write letters(pen to paper, NOT e-mail; sometimes I find my self thinking, "it's a letter writing kind of day." I really enjoyed this, and no wonder you have little time for much of anything! A new baby is a handful and your body is still recovering! Take care of yourself, we'll be here waiting for you 🙂🤗
hi Gloria - nice to see a book haul video! I have two of Joanna Gaines cookbooks and love them..good find! I think you will really enjoy Winter Solstice - and then want to read everything she's written, I loved The Shell Seekers. have a good week! 🎄
So good to see you. Glad you and your family are well. Some wonderful classic editions in your haul. Love the idea of the cookbook book club. The Mountains Sing is an excellent historical fiction. Gemma and I are hoping to read A Brief History of a Killing in March. Wally Lamb is one of my faves. I just picked up The Secret History too. Can’t wait to hear about what you get to reading. 😊💙
Thanks for saying hi, Jolene! Hope you and your fam are all well this holiday season too. If I'm feeling up for it, I may join you for Brief History of Seven Killings. We shall see!
Great haul! I really enjoyed The Happiness Project but that was some years ago. The Mountains Sing was a very hard read but I learned a lot. I have Winter Solstice on my tbr because of Gina Stanyer! The Giver is so great - only read it for the first time a couple of years ago and then read the second but need to finish the rest of the quartet at some point. Gorgeous tote!
So dear to be speding your days with your little one. Those rhythms can take some time to settle into. I haven't read any of these books. The only one I started, I dnf'ed. Whoops. A lot of them sound interesting, though, and some I think I'll steer clear of - especially the three you mentioned!
It’s great to see you back and to hear things are going well with baby. It does take time to get back to reading but you’ll get there. Babies were more fascinating to me than books. I could watch mine for hours! I’ve read a few of the books you mentioned like Gone With the Wind which is on my reread list but I’m going to read it with a critical eye. It is flawed but Scarlet is a fascinating character. I also love The Giver and want to read the rest of the series. I loved Warmth of Other Suns. I loved Middlemarch but did not finish Mill on the Floss. I’d like to try again. I love the board books! It’s so much fun to introduce children to books!
I have enjoyed the whole Giver series and I've heard good things about Ghost. I love a good book sale, I used to go to library sales all of the time and get like 20 books for $2.
Welcome to motherhood! Be kind to yourself! I literally did nothing for a year with my first baby :) I also don't think I would like The Secret History. It's why I've never tried it even though it's so popular :)
Thank you for the encouragement! I'm almost three months in and still feel the most comfortable at home. It's the safe space with all the things and leaving is overwhelming, ha!
My dad had bought me the Magnolia table cookbook for Christmas one year. The only recipe I have tried is the banana nut bread and it is absolutely delicious.
Loved The Moonstone. After I read it, I saw somewhere that he is considered the father of the modern detective novel. Someday, I'll get to The Woman in White. This is my first visit here, thanks to Krista. I'm liking what I see! Congratulations best wishes to you and your little one.
Thank you for the recommendation and reminder! I feel like I remember that book being mentioned in the Columbine book by Dave Cullen. I can only imagine how hard that will be to read, but so good!
I've not read Wench, but I very much want to. I read Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez a few months ago and absolutely loved it. There was a little language that I didn't care for, but it was not overwhelming by any means. The book was so good! Really hard hitting, but so good!
I knew the author sounded familiar! Take My Hand has received lots of love. That makes me want to read The Wench even more to see if I get along with her storytelling.
The Mountains Sing is so amazing! One of my faves from this year 🤩 Loved Three Sisters Three Queens too! Jolene and I are planning to read Seven Killings in March, you are more than welcome to join us if you like ☺️
Been thinking about you lately I knew I hadn’t seen a video recently. You are doing great momma. Newborn life is crazy, unpredictable, scary, and wonderful all at once ❤️ when I had my oldest it took me months to find my footing again. My middle baby I was a champ for and my youngest we literally stayed at home and stopped all the normal stuff for about 6 months. Every baby is different and every recovery is different but all wonderful as well. (I have three more babies but didn’t get the pleasure of experiencing their newborn days.) Hang in there and enjoy the sweet snuggles as much as possible.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and the encouraging words, Corina! It truly is "wild and wonderful." That's been my phrase for this new season. Both filled with so much love and joy and overwhelmed by all the new things and complete upside down change of life. But I wouldn't change it. I've been completely transformed in my heart and soul, and so thankful for that. ❤️
wow lots of books, I only read the Library book, didn't care for the writing the story was all over the place, ended up dnf it. Glad your back, even if its a little while, newborns are unpredictable. That's okay, enjoy every moment with him.
So true! It's been a wild few months and taking it day by day. Good to know your thoughts on The Library Book. I hope I like it, but if everyone else loves it -- I might not. I tend to have unpopular opintions.
I enjoyed the queens gambit. Show is still better but the book definitely goes deeper into come characters and gives some other perspectives of the story
I recommend Alias Anna. It is a biography in free verse, of a Ukrainian Jew during World War 2 who manages to escape the Nazis. The adult biography is called Hiding in the Spotlight. I haven't read that yet, but I would like to. My 14 year old daughter and I are listening to The Giver quartet right now. We are on the 4th book, Son. We have really enjoyed them. I think the thing I've enjoyed the most is the discussions we've had as a result of listening to the books. I had previously read The Giver (maybe 6 or so years ago) but didn't realize it was the first of four books when I read it for the first time.
Wally Lamb is amazing! He also has two books written by inmates in women's prisons that I would highly recommend. They're "Couldn't Keep it to Myself" and "I'll Fly Away". They are very trying reads (lots of assault, abuse, neglect etc) but will 100% change your view point of women in prison. Personally I looked up the cases of the women who wrote the stories and was shocked reading the case vs reading their stories.
So interesting! I haven't really heard much about the author or his writing, so that's great! And thanks for the heads up, I'll make sure to go into his books when I'm in the right headspace for them.
I read GWTW for the first time this year and oh my goodnes, a thousand times better than the movie and I've always enjoyed the movie. I immediately read Scarlett after and it was also really good. :)
I did NOT like The Secret History. I need to finish The Mountains Sing. It’s really good, but I find it much easier to finish ebooks now that I’m a mom.
I don't think I would like Secret History either (I actually have already gotten rid of it). I'm currently in an only audiobook stage with some kindle middle-of-the-night-insomnia reading mixed in, ha! But definitely reading much less now that I'm a mom too.
Winter Solstice... I read it years ago, I read it again last winter, and it's one I'm keeping forever. I love EVERYTHING Rosamunde Pilcher wrote. RIP Rosamunde.
You're making me want to get to Winter Solstice asap! I'm now hoping to get it read this winter and hopefully love it too.
Ooh! The Library Book. I couldn’t deal with the audiobook version, but flew through the physical copy.
Good to know 👍🏼 thanks for the heads up.
Hi Gloria! So good to see you! So glad you’ve been snuggling with your little one. ♥️
He's the best! And this season on life is wild and wonderful.
The original Winnie-the-Pooh is SO lovely! Our kids (and us) loved reading it aloud. So sweet.
Can't wait to read all the books with my son!
The Mill on the Floss❤❤❤❤❤❤ one of my favourites!
Great to hear! Hope I love Wilkie Collins.
The cover of The Mountains Sing is gorgeous!
I think so too!

Thank you for sharing your reading experiences with these books, Eileen! I would so love to visit New England one day. 🧡
The keeper of the Bees is so good! It’s a slower read but beautiful.
Great to hear! I hope to include it in my next installment of a bee book reading vlog. 🐝
I love that library!! I used to go there all the time because they had the best collection of audio books! I miss that place now we’ve gone digital!a
hi Gloria - nice to see a book haul video! I have two of Joanna Gaines cookbooks and love them..good find! I think you will really enjoy Winter Solstice - and then want to read everything she's written, I loved The Shell Seekers. have a good week! 🎄
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Jacqueline! Love the high praise for Rosamunde Pilcher. I'm definitely excited to try her out as an author.
I loved the Kitchen Boy! So much so that I ended up reading all his Russian themed books. I have the Pearl that Broke It's Shell on my stacks too.
Oh that's great to hear! I had never heard of it before.
Hello Gloria! Lovely to see you. 😊
Hi! It feels good to make a video again and say hello back to this community and space.

@@GloriaZThompson That would be fantastic. Would love for you to join in.

There is so much love for Winter Solstice that I'm thinking it needs to be read this season. ❄️
So glad to see you and your books. Babies are so sweet but keep one busy.
So true! The days are long and short at the same time, and very repetitive, but I'm also trying to be present and enjoy this season as much as I can.
I’m so glad you loved the gifts ❤
You're just the best, thanks again. 💛
The woman in white and the moonstone are two of my favorites!
I hope to get to Wilkie Collins next year and find a new fave classic book.
I really liked The Moonstone! I read it with a friend and we read it slow like it was released as a serial book. You found some many great books!
Good to hear! I'd probably pick that one up on kindle and read it slowly as well.
Glad to see you back! 💛
The Warmth of Other Suns is my top book of 2023! I know you will love it. It's life changing 🙌
Thank you! And loveee hearing that. I haven't had too many blow-me-away 5 star nonfiction reads this past year, so I'm itching for a good one.
So dear to be speding your days with your little one. Those rhythms can take some time to settle into.
I haven't read any of these books. The only one I started, I dnf'ed. Whoops. A lot of them sound interesting, though, and some I think I'll steer clear of - especially the three you mentioned!
Yes it's been special to cozy up at home this season and adjust to the new ways of life. Happy holidays!
Ethan Frome is bleak, but good. ❤😊 Winter Solstice is sweet.
Elizabeth George is great! I hope you enjoy. 😊
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Shelly! ❤

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Martha! It's been the best time getting to know my little one. He changes everyday it seems like. 🩵
What a great haul! I had a baby last year and it took me a few months before I could read again but now I’m back to normal-you’ll get there!
Yeah, these first 3 months have been pure chaos (especially being a first time parent and having no clue what's going on), ha!
I have enjoyed the whole Giver series and I've heard good things about Ghost. I love a good book sale, I used to go to library sales all of the time and get like 20 books for $2.
It's the best to score a deal with books!
Winter Solstice is my absolute favorite book. I've reread it many times
Love hearing that! So many people have now said it’s a favorite. I can’t wait to try it. Hope I love it too.
I read a time of angels!! I loved it!! Haven’t thought of it in years!
Love hearing that! I hope I enjoy it too when I get to it.
Gone With the Wind is a really good book. I highly recommend it! I liked Gulliver's Travels.
Thanks for the recommendation, Liz! I hope I like it too.
Scarlett is so good!!!! Def read Gone With The Wind first!
Will do!
I really enjoy Elizabeth George. I have read nearly all of her Inspector Lynley series.
Great to hear! I would love to get into and enjoy a mystery series. We shall see how it goes...
Welcome to motherhood! Be kind to yourself! I literally did nothing for a year with my first baby :) I also don't think I would like The Secret History. It's why I've never tried it even though it's so popular :)

My dad had bought me the Magnolia table cookbook for Christmas one year. The only recipe I have tried is the banana nut bread and it is absolutely delicious.
I'll have to try it! I don't have the best luck with banana bread, ha.
Well I'm not a great cook and I could do it. I think you'll do fine! You'll really like it!
Loved The Moonstone. After I read it, I saw somewhere that he is considered the father of the modern detective novel. Someday, I'll get to The Woman in White. This is my first visit here, thanks to Krista. I'm liking what I see! Congratulations best wishes to you and your little one.
Thank you so much for stopping by and saying hi! Glad to hear love for The Moonstone, I hope to read some Wilkie Collins next year. 🤞
You should read A Mothers Reckoning. It’s by Sue Klebold, mother of one of the Columbine shooters. It’s heartbreaking but so raw and well written
Thank you for the recommendation and reminder! I feel like I remember that book being mentioned in the Columbine book by Dave Cullen. I can only imagine how hard that will be to read, but so good!

I’ve been wanting to read Nesting Dolls so I’m glad to hear that it is good 😊

Anything by Rosamunde Pilcher is WONDERFUL. Books to get lost in….
Fantastic to hear that! Everyone in the comments is loving on her writing, so I can't wait to try it.
I heard of all the children are home on the book gang podcast. The author recently passed away. But the book sounds good.
I hope it's a good one! Sounds interesting for sure.
I'm a huge nonfiction fan. I reading 2 books right now and one is a NF.
Me too! What are your top 5 favorites that you like recommending?
I’ve had the warmth of other suns and haven’t read it! It’s so bad!
I wanna read bird in hand but it’s not available on audio! It sounds so good and I love this author!
Oh bummer! Yes, I hope to get to all of Christina Baker Kline's books.
