I forgot to mention that this kit retails for $199.99. It has 482 pieces and it took me about three days to put it together. Also, be sure to use a power block that's 5 volts and 2 amp otherwise the game keeps resetting in the middle of a game. Also the game resets after it reaches 1,000 points. I also bought this model. I’ve done a lot of models by Ugears and some by ROKR. To date this is the best one. I noticed when you were showing the completed underside, one of your light strips had the lights facing the up. You need to put a twist in the strip when you thread it under so the light shines down. This way the side decorations will light up. Not a big deal.
I've got the same pinball :) You forgot to put the rubber band around the base of the seal thing that rotates. The pinball doesn't give extra balls but I discovered that using a Quickcharge or Power Delivery power brick sometimes makes the pinball reset itself in the middle of a game, canceling all you score and giving you back 6 balls. So I would recommend a very basic 10W charger (2A, 5V) to prevent that. If you lose all 6 balls of course the game is over, but once you lit all 10 stars, you get the little fanfare music and the game is over as well. So you can't do scoring on this toy, you can only try and lit all 10 stars and that's it. Still a cute and fun toy though :) I've added another switch at the back, near the plug, so that I won't have to unplug the pinball after every game, I think they should have done so to begin with...
Thank you! I didn't realize a rubber band was supposed to go on the seal! I thought it was odd that there was only bare wood on that piece! 😳 Also thank you for mentioning the power supply. Mine keeps resetting and I couldn't figure out why it was doing that. I was using a 5 voltage 1 Amp power block. I just ordered a 2 Amp version. Also helpful was you mentioning that the game resets after the fanfare music. I thought that was a glitch as well but now I know it's basically the end of the game. Thanks again! 😁
This model is way more fun to play with if you remove the spinning seal altogether. It blocks the central ramp too much and detracts more from the fun than it adds. It's a great little game and my wife and I love it!
I have just finnished the Grammophone from Rokr and I'm now buildimg their victorian clock and I am amazed at how well everything fits and how many cool details they have. I think I'm going to build the Pinball machine too! I love it!

What on the Earth is cooler than that. I cant imagine in my dreams of something so cool. Ill bet if you got a wet wash cloth to dampen the "Bendy" wood parts, They might not break. Its so ornate that it makes your eyeballs happy. If anyone wants to donate one to me, let me know
i made the U=Gears pendulum clock. Took me a week. This project would take me a month. These laser cut wood projects are very cool. The designers are very talented.

Thanks for the demonstration. Being made out of wood, that is an Incredible amount of tolerances in the cuts.
It is very nicely crafted. The pieces went together so good that I was very surprised. Especially how elaborate this kit was.
I saw this nifty kit on Facebook and had to check it out on RUclips. You did well in showing on how to assemble it and then giving a demo of the pinball gameplay and its minor flaws, very nice. I like to see a decorative one, a painted design, as the wood colour looks a bit bland. Guess I'll do one myself once I get my hands on this beauty. 😁

I love that you went into depth about this. I've been debating buying one. The only thing holding me back is the that it's a little smaller than I thought it would be. Still, it's gorgeous!
It's a great kit and fun to build. I don't have that much room anymore so the size of it is perfect. It works surprisingly well. It's not perfect but for what it is, it's very well done.
The demonstration was the best and a great highlight.

Received mine yesterday, 9 August 2023. Got through page 11 last night before stopping for the night. So far a very fun build. This is my first model of this type though with my decades of different modeling genres I'm convinced I'll do well with it. The metal pinballs were a bit smaller than I imagined when I first saw them during unpacking.
A trick I learned Building Guitar school. Might help those bends work without breaking is soak the wood in almost boiling water. It softens the wood and less likely to break. Waiting for MY pinball machine! Ill be careful of that so thx for advice!

@@DrBigflash I will next month when I do it! I just know that soaking wood wet in very hot water takes the brittle out and then can be bent without breaking! Not just wet but soaked like for hours! Ill post when I find out if it helps. I appreciate hearing from builders before me saying the problem. I know in advance it's something I need to be looking at....
Put this together last weekend, about 10 hours of work....and unfortunately our 4 year old was playing a little too aggressively and broke the connector on the flipper. Honestly, I am so defeated that I would have to take the bottom off and to fix the connector I havent done it yet. Its a beautifully crafted piece....and there was a lot of thought put into it for sure. Excellent video sire!
Oh wow. That's too bad. Hopefully you can repair the flipper. I don't envy you having to take it apart all over again. Hopefully none of the parts actually broke that can't be repaired. I don't know if Rokr sends individual replacement parts.

That looks amazing! I'm amazed they actually perfected miniaturized pop-bumper! Would've been cool if they could've gotten the side bumpers to work, but it looks like the rubber bands seem to work fine, as well. Thanks for sharing this. I put this in my "saved for later" cart, and will pick it up, once I have enough on hand. LOL :)

Wow, so cool! It looks like some of the laser cut stuff I do but way more complex. I've made some boxes with that cut that allows the wood to bend.

After watching you play I can tell that you were a pinball wizard. I've been known for my pinball skills. I could be at a bar for hours and never pay for a beer. You definitely have the skills. I just purchased this machine. I have not received it yet but looking forward to it.

@outsider238 my favorite was "The Addams Family " I never played "Funhouse" might have been after my time. In all seriousness, I was really really really good at the game. I never competed in any pinball championship games but I believe I would have held my own. I'll be 67 this year and hopefully this project will bring back some of the fun I had back in the day.

The clear plastic bumpers threw me also, I noticed the no1 and 2 were different as marked on the spru, they were marked ok but there are only 2 supplied as marked, and yet on page 23 the assemblies need 6!? 11 plastic supports needed in total, I have 9 of the smaller ones N1 and only 2 of the longer ones N2. What a bummer. Cheersw, Tony.

This is quite Impressive for what it is, as is. I think the only major thing that they should have changed, is to make the pop bumpers static, and instead, make the Kickers Live, as well as electronic Flippers. Those would effect the gameplay much more than the pop bumpers. That said...
It would not be that difficult to modify the Kickers and Flippers to be Electronic. You can have a separate power source for them, and they will operate by very simple leaf-switches. You can search actual pinball parts, to see how these things are constructed + function. Its fairly simple. I suppose the only tricky thing might be, in finding the correct power levels, so that the flippers have enough power to get up ramps.. but not TOO powerful, that it launches the ball into the next room. Maybe a simple "Adjustable Pot", to control the power levels.
To make the game play smoother... A few coats of Polyurathane to seal the wood surface, and make it very glossy / slick... would probably help greatly. Though, it might end up playing "Too Fast" as a result. You could experiment by cutting some clear plastic sheet material (like Laser Printer / Projection film), and laying it on top of the wood... and giving it some test plays. Real Pinball machines often have plastic Mylar film glues to the surface... especially in "High-Wear" areas (such as where a Ball Drops down onto the field constantly). The mylar film protects the Screen Printed artwork, as well as makes the surface easy to clean and Polish.
If the LED strips are visible at certain angles, one might consider using some plastic that is more white (opaque), and helps to diffuse the light a little better. Also, if one wanted certain colored lighting in certain areas, one might add colored film over the LEDs in those areas.
One might be able to make the Elephants mechanically go from a walking position, to standing on their Two back legs, when the Kickers fire... somewhat similar to Elvira's "Scarred Stiff" pinball machine.. (with the Monsters that Jump upwards, when the targets are Hit).
Typical Pinball machines have Rubber banding on the Flippers. It helps to give more Bounce energy, as well as to protect the plastic from cracking. Would probably improve playability in this game too.
They should make a version that has connections for a cheap phone (or tablet) to be inserted into the backbox. In that way, you would get visible Animations, scoring display, and superior music / sound effects
The Black Bells, Flippers, and Plunger Knob... sort of Clash a little with the Wooden Look. Might be nice to paint them in Metallic spray. Maybe Brass, Or even Gold Leaf. You will have to clearcoat them with a few layers, to protect any paint from chipping/wearing off. Adding metal ball Railing might be cool too.
The thing might look pretty cool, if painted with UV Blacklight paints, and then you could play the thing while Black lights are on in the room (or potentially replace the LED strip with UV strip. Be careful with them... as if they are too bright, they can be bad for the eyes).
The biggest issues with Playability, is actually the Scale. Small balls are much lighter than normal pinballs.. and so they can move too quickly... and not have enough "Mass Effects".
It would be wild if they could make larger / normal scale versions... with upgradeable parts / assemblies, and with the ability to Program your own Machine effects / gameplay/ sounds...etc.
Actually, you could probably use the Driver Solenoids from the pop bumpers to power the Kickers... and change the pop bumpers to use simple motor drive Spinning wheels. Each wheel would need a rubber bumper on them. Once the ball hits the Spinning bumpers, then will fly around the playfield areas. You could make the left side bumpers rotate counter clockwise, and the right side bumper, rotate clockwise. This will give better chances of the ball being flung into the other bumpers a few more times.
Finally, it wouldnt be difficult to add other Led Lights.. bother under things, or in Spot-Light fixtures, above the field, pointing down at the field, to give more custom illumination / effects.
At minimum, they should Sell upgrade kits, so that people could add-on to their Base machines, as they can afford it. Such as selling Powered Flipper, and Powered Kicker Kits.
Anyway.. its quite a cool little toy. Thanks for the video.
I think to buy one, and then upgrade it with a Arduino or Raspberry with a 7 sgment display for scoring and coding a own flipper game. I really like your ideas in your post. Especial that with the flippers make it electric.

Could be fun to scan all the parts then use a 3D printer to scale it up to 2x...
@@MichaelKean The Physics change drastically, when you scale things up. Larger and Heavier Balls, have different acceleration, spin, and momentum effects / amounts.
The forces required to move the ball fast (Coils) are increased dramatically... which means you need stronger coils, and thus higher voltages, which means stronger power supply + a large Transformer.
The Impact forces also change.. and so all parts need to be thicker and stronger... and made from the proper materials. Even with the correct materials.. many pinball parts still have a certain Lifespan, before they wear out, and need replacement (like Flipper Linkages, and the Flipper Shaft Bearing pieces).
And due to the change in momentum... all of a tables pain-steakingly designed "Shots" (paths / shot targets / ramps ).. will not work the same, when scaled up. Some shots might turn to being nearly impossible to hit... where others might be too easy to hit.
As such, if you want an authentic Pinball experience, you would likely want to stick to using authentic, well proven, parts. Unfortunately the cost of all of those parts, adds up Really fast... because you are not a MFG., buying them in Bulk lots (and or making them from within your own company). The next best option, might be to find a beat up Used machine... that isnt a "Classic", and heavily Modify / redesign it + Re-theme it.
All of this, is not for the feint of heart. It would require a lot of trail and error. Tons of "test fields" being Scrapped. Wood working, Plastic work, metal working, and wiring / electronics abilities. A lot of various tools and power tools. As well as a means of getting a decent screen printing done on your playfield + a top protective clear-coat (that will hold up to a pinballs abuses).
(Now... if you were merely speaking about keeping the ball the same size, and just scaling up the rest... that wouldnt make sense either, for the same physics / angle issues)
I built one of these. Really cool! Only downsides are that the score maxes out at 1000 points, and the middle ramp likes to jump the ball over the track. One mod I saw, he made a tunnel out of the red scrap material to make a tube lid for the ramp so the ball can’t jump.

@@outsider238 if they made a new version i would buy that as well! i also saw someone did a full swap of electronics with Arduino max for the brain and put in a lcd scoreboard and added a sensor for the left tunnel that has an arrow pointing at it for no reason. sounds like a lot of work tho haha 😆

Thanks for the great build video...very informative. I'll definitely continue referring to your video my the build intensifies. I'm working on mine at the moment having received it yesterday 9 Aug 2023.. After I initially ordered it I started thinking of ways to jazz it up. I might ad some UV blacklight LED lighting and flourescent craft paint to spice it up. I am also considering the same UV blacklight treatment internally and replacing the red translucent panels with clear frosted translucent panels so it glows internally as well.
Just finished building it. The last chunk of the build was both painful (so many small pegs), and unnerving. Lets just say I'm glad they gave us duplicates of the bendy wood. I broke two of them. I'm playing from the USB on my computer. it's a USB C and it will reset the game at that output. I wish the USB plug they gave us was a regular outlet plug instead. Gotta find a usb plug block now..
Congratulations on finishing it! Quite the build isn't it? Yeah I found that a 5 volt 2 amp power block works best and the game won't reset in the middle of the game using that. Glad that you got it done! 👍
@@outsider238I'll go to best buy on Tuesday to get one (closed tomorrow for family day). Looks like I'll need to wood glue a few components. The seal pops off often since it's always spinning. The middle ramp popped off the side a bit, and those pointless plastic inserts for the paddles keep wiggling off.
Otherwise, it's pretty fun. Definitely one of their best products. Always wanted a real pinball machine, but they're just too expensive. This is about as good as I can get. :D
@spderweb Yeah one of my hole plugs on one of the flippers keeps coming off as well. Someone told me that they just removed the seal altogether because it plays better without it constantly in the way. I may have to try that.

I’ve only ever bought one thing by ROKR, and though I enjoyed the build the final product simply did not work. I threw it in the rubbish almost immediately. It’s nice to see this looks to be better quality.
They are definitely improving on their kits. This was a particularly exceptional one! I play it every day.

I can’t believe that the bumpers and flippers are controlled by actual solenoids so when the ball hits that you actually get a real spring, I’ll be at it’s a little weak
The flippers are manual. They aren't electronic. The bumpers work surprisingly well!

Yes a better scoring board would have been nice for sure. But having this made of mostly wood, it would have been pretty difficult and expensive to pull it off.
@@outsider238 A simply solution could be just a 7segment display. I realy think to buy that flipper, and use then a Arduino as electronic, and a small display for the scoring. Ofc, it would need to programm the whole flipper for the Arduino, not only the display. But I think this would be an intersting project.

@@DrBigflash I still wait to get the Kit in next days. I also bought a Arduino and some electronic parts so i can experiment with it and plan a solution for the flipper. It will be a hard work and im sure it need some time, about it need to code the whole flipper, include the sensors and all the LED lights, etc. But i think this project could be also a lot of fun to do :)

I thought the directions were very good and clear. Rokr is probably one of the best for that. I just built a wood kit from a knockoff brand and they were okay but not as good.

There's no plexi. It's fully open. I think it would have been nice to have some on there to keep the dust from getting on the play field area.
@@outsider238 Well I bought an assembled one and it has plexi on it, so I wondered if the others have that as well. But it is not hard to do anyway, seems pretty easy actually.
unfortunately, both my flippers get stuck all the time, so it is pretty much unplayable. :(
@@MH-yp6wgYou can take the bottom section where the flippers are apart and see what's causing them to get stuck. It's probably an easy fix.

When I assembled mine, the plunger can’t propel the ball up the ramp. The ball starts on a flat surface then has to jump over a small lip to go up the ramp, because the two surfaces do not align. Everything else does.
Is there a way you can sand the misaligned pieces down to match them up?

I just looked at mine. It's all smooth.
I built my pinball machine and I love it. All works fine except one infrared sensor, that triggers continously without a passing ball. Idk why - cable is connected properly and there´s nothing in front of the sensor. I disconnected the cable now to be able to play the game - but the price is: these points won´t be counted anymore - and the positive sound effect of this guy is missing. Anyone here has an idea what could fix the issue?
Is it the sensor on the left ramp or the one on the top ramp? I was having the same issue. If light (especially sunlight) is shining on the sensor, it will keep activating it. I made a little shade over it using a piece of index card folded into an "L" shape and placed it over the sensor and it's worked ever since. I hope that helps. 😁

I actually play with it everyday. I really like this a lot. I think mine might have a glitch with the electronics though. The score resets after a while and I'm not sure why it's doing that.

I realized that you put the sea lion in the wrong direction and you forgot to put a rubber band on it.

I'm sure there's probably a way to do it but I'm not that mechanically inclined to figure out how. 😄
I suggest that you leave the spinning seal out of it. It looks cool but it's way more fun to play without it. It's in a bad spot and makes it nearly impossible to hit the central ramp and it just deflects way too many fun shots. Have fun people!

Did you think about glueing parts together for improving the stability and lifetime?
I did glue some pieces but most of it went together without glue. It's pretty strong once it's all together. I hesitated gluing in case things had to be adjusted later.

@DrBigflash Just be careful building the ramps. They were the most difficult parts. The sensors on the ramps are affected if bright light is on them. Particularly the one on the left ramp. I made a shade for it by just taking a piece of index card and folding it into an "L" shape, tucking it between the ramp and the wall to keep it shaded.
I think its to fast, if you put something under front feet it will slow the play down so you have more control.
My left trigger isnt working properly. Sometimes it gets stuck. Anyone else having this Problem and already getting it solved?
You may have to take the cover off underneath to see what's going on. It's possible one of the screws started tightening for the flipper assembly so it's getting stuck.

Thanks for this video! Your description around 15:40 about that part of the ramp build... Those parts of the steps are driving me insane. I can't for the life of me get the "supports" to just stay where they are so that the rest of that part of the ramp can be locked down. I thought I finally had all of those pieces locked in but once I got to the step of putting the entire right side assembly on, everything ramp-wise in that area fell apart. I think it might be time to pull out wood glue to secure everything in that problem ramp area. B/c putting the right side on requires every single peg to already be secured and in perfect placement. Did you find yourself using glue? I hate to do that but at this point it seems like that's my only option.
Yes that part was really frustrating! I did use glue on several areas. Sometimes it's just necessary to hold things together or for peace of mind! 😄
@@outsider238 Good to know! What kind of glue did you use? Standard wood glue? I'm trying the standard "bonds to anything" gorilla glue. Doing so for the problematic support pieces, and a couple of the ramp connections. Gonna let that all sit/cure until tomorrow when I'll try to attach the side piece again (and hopefully not break things again in the process). I do wish the whole ramp assembly pieces locked in tighter. I feel like screws should have been involved not just wood on wood pegs/holes. Since the more something comes loose and you have to re-sit it, the more the locking functionality wears away from the wooden holes and pegs. :/
@@TimStilesI think I used both super glue and Elmer's glue for different spots. Yeah I didn't like that they had so many connections in that one area. It was hard to get everything to lock in place and try not to break anything and yet get it to fit properly. Everything else went together so smoothly.
@@outsider238The gorilla glue I used hardened quicker than expected. Using that was KEY to holding everything in the right place to then ever so carefully get the sides assemblies on. I wish I had used glue from the get go. All is well now and I'm on the home stretch! Thanks again for your video and insight/quick responses. Both were incredibly helpful. Hopefully others who stumble across this find the same. Not an easy build! LOL

Quick question, do you remember where you found the wax in your kit? I'm trying to make sure I didn't accidentally overlook it but I can't find it anywhere in the box and I definitely didn't take it out. If you do remember, thanks!
I don't think there was any wax for this kit as far as I can remember. I don't think any wood parts rub against each other in this kit.
@@outsider238 My instructions were telling me to put remind wax on the surfaces where the ball holder would slide in and out, and a few other parts, but the chatbot on Robotime’s website said they can’t ship waxes internationally, but that I could use a crayon in place haha, so that’s what I did. But if you never waxed anything then it must not be that necessary. Thanks for your reply!

Does the pinball have a scoreboard or a place to look at the score you have during the game or at the end of the game?
Yes it's on the play field where those lights are. It only scores up to 1,000 points and then starts over.

Yeah that center ramp is really difficult because the ball jumps up that sharp incline too easily.
Hmm, in my game I don't seem to get score for shooting the left most tunnel. Can someone confirm this is correct or did I miss a sensor?
The left tunnel (that has the spinner) where the ball disappears until it shows up on the other side doesn't have a sensor so there's no points awarded to go through it. I think it was just a fun feature they had for that area.

Outsider, I'm building this a made a mistake. I cut 2 plastic parts off not paying attention that one is longer than the other. The parts are O4 and O5. Do you know which one is the longer one. I'm at a standstill. Thanks for your help.
I'm looking at the instructions and it looks like 05 is the longer one but I'm not 100% sure. Are these the parts for the flipper mechanism?

Look at the diagrams for those parts. You can tell that 05 looks like it's longer than 04.

Where are the points counted? Is there a display?
It's the stars in the middle of the play field. It counts by 100. I'm not sure what the ramps and bumpers score. One thing I've noticed now that I've had the chance to play it more is that it seems to have a glitch where you can see the lights quickly flicker and it resets and starts over. I checked all the connections and everything is plugged in properly so I don't know what's causing it.
Nexr time you need to bend wood, stem it and it Will bend better. You stille need to be carefull tho. Good luck
That's a great tip! I usually never have problems with those pieces but that snake head has a very sharp curve to it and you have to push it onto the tabs of the sides at the same time so it's really awkward to assemble. I should have tried the steam! 😁

No it didn't. Apparently there's restrictions about sending it which is weird since every other wood kit comes with the wax. I had some left over from previous kits.

@@outsider238 it's okay. I found another video. I was confused b/c until the posts were added later the flippers were all wonky. I didn't realize how the levers worked with a new fulcrum in there (or whatever the physics terms are for this behavior)

Can anyone tell me if a regular cell phone charger powers this ok?
I recommend a power block that's 5 volts and 2 amps. Otherwise the game will tend to reset right in the middle of a game before you reach 1,000 points.

@calvinb7300 Try it and if the game resets before you reach 1,000 points often, you'll need a different power block with those exact ratings.
It's one I love to get but I could never afford it right now being on disability and I think it's way overpriced really to be honest it's very very expensive to be honest I think too expensive for a lot of people especially me
I've seen it popping up on sale every now and then. It's a challenge but goes together pretty well for a wood kit.
Then go get a real pinball machine and fall in love with it. Hmm
