Thank you so much for this video. I am brand new to instacart, I haven't even done my first order yet and this video answered every question I had about how it works. If instacart sees this video they should strongly consider adding it to their training list for new shoppers.
I started IC in Tampa area/Pinellas county. Rarely saw batches over 20 some dollars. It would take me 8-10 hours a day, 8 days a week to make $400 to $600. And I was Diamond level and getting priority access to orders. It is much better to accept smaller orders with least amount of distance. You can get more done and tend make more money. I only ever had a day over $100 maybe once a week and that was usually on a Sunday and I’d be out there for 10 hours…..working nonstop, no breaks. I had $150 day once and that was Thanksgiving week.
Yeah it’s like any other gig delivery Duh Or everyone would switch I’m in Clearwater Dunedin n do DoorDash It averages $10-12 an hr n YOU ARE KILLING UR CARS, ppl
Thank you for making this video. I am getting started with Instacart. Am a little bit nervous about making mistakes. I did Doordash for two years. Wanted to give Instacart a try. I like the way you explain the whole process. Took the stress out of figuring things out. Thank you again for the content. Keep up the good work!
I did it for the first time yesterday. I did two orders. I felt slow but I was getting to know the app. I'll do it again but I did not make much money at all. Thank you for the part where you said we can wait and not accept it and the pay will raise.
Walmart spark gives you the aisle and section of each item. Makes it WAAAY simpler. I’m thinking about adding instacart to my apps. Thanks for an informative video.
Wow, I do IC outside of Tampa and rarely ever see orders above $50 unless they are huge Costco orders, you’re very fortunate. An amazing day for me is $100 for 6-8 hours. I have a special needs child, so this works perfectly me and my schedule. My best tip is use the freezer packs that come with meal delivery orders. I use a hard cooler and some soft sided cooler bags, those freezer packs stay cold all day in the Florida heat.
I do IC in Pittsburgh. I have never seen a shop only. Micheals is the only store you can go to and not have to shop. Lowes is the only store where the items on the app shows which aisle its in. So if you are unfamiliar with the store, you have to go up and down each aisle to find items. And you have to stand in the deli line to place your order just like anyone else. Really slows you down. Lucky you get an aisle list and presliced deli. Never have been tipped over $20 for a run. The average here is like $6. I worked 7.5 hrs on Friday and my tips were still under $70. Doing runs in a rich community must really help.
I enjoy shopping for myself so I’d probably never take advantage of a service such a this but it was interesting to hear how it works. Thanks for sharing.
I like how Publix has the deli meat ready for you, I haven’t seen other stores do that. It takes time to wait for them and have them cut/package it for you on the spot.
raising wildflowers, regarding your 11:30 the faster you are remark. I've been instacarting since '19 and I can honestly tell that shopping within the allowed time frame and beating that clock does absolutely nothing to your batches
Hello! I read other comments here and the items are scanned again at checkout. It was suggested to do self checkout so you can make sure the items are bagged accurately when you are shopping for more than one customer. To answer your other question, I have seen a different RUclips video and he never bags the items until checkout.
I use to make $200 easily in 6 hour shifts on Saturdays and Sundays last year. The highest I made this year was Easter, $81 in 8 hours. That’s way less than minimum wage. Take advantage if your city doesn’t have too many drivers yet, lots of ppl are going to lose their jobs in the next 5 years- lots of careers will end, unfortunately. Where do you think all those unfortunate people will turn too for work? Instacart, Uber, DoorDash, etc. Then your cities will be just like Los Angeles- where you’ll get 1 order every few hours
As an Instacart shopper myself, I call bs on the $45/hour. I hate all the false info RUclips videos that are clickbait, lying to you, and are only trying to get views to make money from being RUclips monitized.
I was listening to another video of yours while doing instacart and then suddenly this appears as I enter another store. How nice! I live near so I tend to return home, but there are times I do wait.
I wish you had showed me how you kept the items separate for customers A, B, C. I also wanted to see how you kept the cold items cold and the hot items hot. You also didn't mention about buying bags. Do customers appreciate it if I use my own bags to save them money? I bought 4 of the approved bags for $30. I also signed up for large orders like a large heavy box that will fit in my hatchback. If you must leave the things at the door, I would think you would want to make sure you got pictures of all the items. If someone stole some items, you could prove that they were in the bags with the pictures. Just showing the bags in the picture won't prove that you delivered all of the items.
thanks - very informative. i calculate time diff. waiting to me matters. it seems the food apps have found a way to pay minimum wage. $15p/hr is what i get which includes your wait time, lunch & cash tip. the bonus is that your car doesn't move while you wait - except on return to the store.
I often get on the app and look at what area the boosts are in and peak times. I usually go down to Bloomington quite often bc of their 27 percent boosts. About a 40 minute drive, but it really is worth it. You'll make more than you spend on like gas and what not.
Can you customize your isles that you like to shop first on the list when you shop? first start at Produce, deli, dry, drinks, frozen last? I feel a lot of scrolling up and down would be annoying...
Thank you for sharing this! Would love your 2cents on a situation I just had happen. When working a large order for 3 I had a cashier combine my second and third order after failing to scan the barcode correctly. She was inexperienced and sent me over to customer service to have them correct everything. My first orders had already been paid for she decided to refund everything before rechecking my order. When we got to the payment method for the second time my payments were declined. Instacart support kept me on the line for almost an hour before eventually canceling the batch on me because I refused to pay out of pocket then request a reimbursement from them. That put me out nearly 2 hours with nothing to show for it. I'd love to know your experience when working with support. or best practices to watch for with new cashiers. Thanks
Don't use cashiers, utilize the self checkout. There is large chance cashiers and baggers can fck your order up w/how stupidly they pack the order and w/this mistake here you mentioned. Minimize that chance as much as possible by using self checkout if available. I only use cashiers if im exhausted
Hey girly! Greeting from HTX 👋 I used your referral code today to get started hopefully you get the credit you deserve thank you so much for uploading this video!
Damn, I've been doing IC right up the road from you in St. Agustine and the most I've seen come in for 1 customer is 30.00. She had only 7 items and just left a decent tip. But getting 60 bucks for a batch is insane. I haven't seen one of those since the start of the pandemic.
That's darn right me neither and they only paid good then because of the pandemic and shoppers were needed everywhere which is when they hired too many so now we get low paying orders. Everytime I see another shopper I ask them what they get per batch and it's always way higher and everyone be at 5.00 rating and mine is at 4.7 like all the time and I haven't changed nothing about how I do an order. It makes no sense at allllllll
Hello!, thanks for the tips, I have a quick question? for that day did you just receive only those 4 orders that was worth taking? How many batches do you typically get a day that are decent enough to take?
Quick tip to save time, just don't even weigh produce and just put down what it says they want on the app because nobody pays attention to that and most of the time it's going to be pretty much accurate anyways, huge time saver!
As someone that uses Instacart from time to time, I ABSOLUTELY pay attention to the weight. I have a food scale at home and you better believe I use it. Even if you're just a little bit off you're still either cheating the customer or the store. Not good advise to give anyone especially if they are new to this as you could potentially get them banned from being a shopper. I'm very glad I've never had a shopper that thinks like you.
Some stores have eliminated scales at the produce section. Its only at checkout can i see the weight, then i readjust accordingly. The other day i had to take out a bunch of grapes from a 1lb grape order. The store hopes you dont care to know the weight
I wish I could have seen the checkout of the first batch. I shopped for two people for the first time and tried to pay separately. I didn’t know you have to pay for all of the items at once
Oh for the love of god I hope you don’t try to ring up everything at once LOL. That would be a nightmare. The card would get declined and then you’d have to separate the items, and by this time you have likely gotten multiple orders mixed amongst one another. This would not only piss off the employee responsible for ringing you out. But then piss your customer off and yourself for the additional 30 minutes your about to spend at the register sorting through the orders item by item so that you can ring out properly lol. One order by one. Thats how you get it done.
looking instacart to see if it would work for me, realistically, as a way to make some extra cash... do you have special car insurance, and/or a business license/LLC?
This is a very comprehensive video, thank you. I still have questions though. How does Instacart make their money if the shoppers gets paid for the order (plus tips). If the order if $60 say, and the shopper is paid $60 dollars, how does that work? Where is their profit? What about bags? With no more plastic bags available, how are the groceries packaged? And the insulated cold bags, do they get left at the customer's residence? Is mileage covered by Instacart? I'm looking into doing this myself (I live in Canada), but can't find videos that explain how this works. TIA :)
In my area, the customer gets charged $10 flat rate. The shopper gets paid $7 (plus any tip the customer adds). So, there is $3.00 right off the top. Then if you accept a second order to shop along with your original order (i.e. a double order) Instacart does not pay you an additional $7, just any tip that the customer offered (although, the customer definitely paid that $10 flat fee). So, there is another $10. That is just the shopping fee. On top of that, they add a little extra to the price of each item. It has been a while since I did Instacart, so things may have changed since then. But that's what it was when I was doing it last.
I also have a greeting and ending message always keep photos of everything replacements because trust you might need it I don't have a cart I wish I had sometimes but I do really good you just gotta know the stores and asking for feedback and ratings help you just have to make it sound like your not asking or more like suggesting I deal with so many scammers and people with issues idk sometimes it's annoying so I started keeping track of everything
You can work as much or as little as you want. You don't even need to schedule a time to work, you just log onto the app whenever you want. I did not shop at all for several weeks recently because I had a baby. I usually work 5-6 days a week, but only a couple hours a day. I am able to get orders from my house, so sometimes in the evenings I will keep the app open to see if something good pops up :)
@@2strive405 I think she means that while she's at home, her App is open so that if something juicy comes through she can decide whether to take it or not.
I just started doing IC and wonder if it is worth my time. The majority of orders I am getting are like $13 for 20+ items. From shopping to delivery, that takes about one hour each trip meaning my average hourly wage is $13. Hoping to see better orders soon.
As the average cost to operate a vehicle is currently $.58/mile some people are not taking this into account and often time actually loosing money by accepting low paying and long distance batches. It appears that the potential to actually make money as a shopper in 2023 is diminishing. As an example, $20.00 batch, 10 miles away= 20 mile round trip = $11.60. Yes your cost to actually drive your gas powered vehicle. Now there is actually $8.40 left. Next time you accept a batch do the math. Many newbees are accepting low paying batches, which tells the company it's ok to put low paying batches out there. They are targeting the newbees and ruining the potential for everyone.
Not only that, Instacart is now routinely grouping 3 orders in one batch and still paying ridiculous amounts for the order. I never take 3 order batches myself (I respect others that choose to do so) but you made an excellent point about the newbies ruining it for everyone else. I've seen 3 order batches being separated into 2 (and even single orders) if no one takes them within a period of time. They do prey on new people who think they have to take the first batch that comes up. With time, I have become very selective on the batches I take. Just take your time and don't get too anxious. Sometimes it's better to wait a little longer than taking a 3-order for $ 20 that would take a lot of your time and effort.
So I just started instacart and the issue im having is, it doesn’t show me the full mileage to go to the supermarket and then to the persons home . Like for example the other day I had a $20 delivery for 2 stops, and the supermarket was 30 mins away ! And they the two persons homes were about 10-15 mins away from the supermarket and one of them didn’t even leave a tip! And they were both large orders. I was SOOOO pissed off. A complete waste of gas money
Is that how people complete the 2 or 3 people order, they shop and then drop off and go back to the store... I was just gonna shop and then leave it in the car and shop again..
You technically would be using your car for commercial purposes so should let your insurance know and increase your coverage. Otherwise, you would not be covered if you got into a wreck while working. However, if you did not increase your coverage and got into a wreck, you would want to make sure it was not mentioned in either the police report or to your insurance that you were working at the time.
I just joined 2day..I started today and I was using the Google Pay..my card was shipped 2 me a couple of hrs. So instead of me waiting on the physical card..I downloaded Google pay app n attached the digital card they gave me ..
My application took less than a week to be approved and the card was mailed out as soon as I was approved. You can begin shopping at certain stores right away with ApplePay while you are waiting on your physical card to arrive :)
I really appreciate your video! Very detailed and exactly what I was looking for. My only question though, did you use cold bags for the frozen items and do you tell the cashier what you want in what bags? One last question, what did you scan the QR code for at the register? Thank you.
Hey Tony, I hate to just jump in here like this but just wanted to help out a little. To answer your questions, the QR code is required at some stores. It's like a membership/savings account for the customer. Its already setup for the customer so when you go to check out it might say scan code after 1st item. Also not sure how it works in other places but generally you don't have a say so on what goes in what bag. Now once you get familiar with a store and the cashiers you might build a bond where they allow you to have say so. It's good to use cooler bags. I'm not going to say it's a necessity.
@@porshab7320 Hey thanks for jumping in and explaining! I guess the bagging part was a silly question lol. I haven't gotten any cold/hot bags yet, but I guess I could arrange them myself once done with check-out. Thank you so much for explaining!
@@porshab7320 Hate to bother you again with another question. I accepted an order not realizing that it was 2 customers orders at the same time and it was like 45 items total. I was thinking how in the heck am I going to keep those orders separate in a shopping cart! On top of that, it said that 1 of the customers didn't order through Instacart so I had to go through a different process for them to pay. It only being like my 5th order ever, I freaked out and cancelled it :(. Any suggestions on doing double orders and how someone not ordering through Instacart works. Thanks!
Ok so as far as keeping orders separate. For me it depends on the size of the order. I try not to do too many 3 orders batches. But for a 2 order what I do is use the top portion as Customer A and the larger bottom of cart for Customer B. Let's say each customer has 20 items a piece. I'll grab one of those hand baskets. Have the top and hand basket be 1. Then the rest for the other customer. But I promise once you get going you will find you a routine. Try to stick to stores you know. That helps.
No one ever explains the checkout and delivery steps with a batch with 2 people you are shopping for. I get the part of scanning like a single customer order and keeping A and B separated but when you checkout do you do it separately or all together and keep A separate from B or how does that work? And who gets delivered first after checkout. I want to start taking more than single orders, I’ve been on the app for like a week so far and I love it so far
You keep the orders separate in the cart when you are shopping. When you get to check out, the app will prompt you to check out the first order just as you would a single order. When that transaction is complete then the app will prompt you to check out the second order. It will do the same thing with delivery.
Plastic bags are free in FL, but based on the way it works for us in ALDI, customers pay for the bags. At check-out, I am asked how many bags I used and it adds it to the customer's order total.
I grab a couple shopping baskets provided by the store and put them underneath the buggy 🙂 Or, if the store doesn’t have baskets, I have a couple XL IKEA bags I bring in with with amzn.to/43j27ns

You should need to pay for the orders separately. I will see if I can get a video together specifically on checking out :)
Yes please do a video separately how you pay for both of them
Oh for the love of god I hope you don’t try to ring up everything at once LOL.
You.are insured by instacart while your working but are still required to have your own insurance or it won't work out
This is a very comprehensive video, thank you.
Thank you. I am thinking about doing this
I also have a greeting and ending message always keep photos of everything replacements because trust you might need it I don't have a cart I wish I had sometimes but I do really good you just gotta know the stores and asking for feedback and ratings help you just have to make it sound like your not asking or more like suggesting I deal with so many scammers and people with issues idk sometimes it's annoying so I started keeping track of everything
I wish we could still swipe to decline or hide orders they don't even let you do that anymore
Any tips to get off waitlist? That has been my problem for near 2 years now.
Plus I have to take heavy items/orders upstairs and it's absolutely not easy and the pay is never what we deserve to get
How many days a week do you do this ? Is there a minimum amount of time you must be available ?
You can work as much or as little as you want. You don't even need to schedule a time to work, you just log onto the app whenever you want. I did not shop at all for several weeks recently because I had a baby. I usually work 5-6 days a week, but only a couple hours a day. I am able to get orders from my house, so sometimes in the evenings I will keep the app open to see if something good pops up :)
@@raisingwildflowers Thank you !!
What is ur goal monthly income with this side gig
@@raisingwildflowers what do you mean orders from your house?
@@2strive405 I think she means that while she's at home, her App is open so that if something juicy comes through she can decide whether to take it or not.
Thank you for the video very informative
Thank you so much. I just used your code.
I just started doing IC and wonder if it is worth my time. The majority of orders I am getting are like $13 for 20+ items. From shopping to delivery, that takes about one hour each trip meaning my average hourly wage is $13. Hoping to see better orders soon.
Thanks I like your video and the way how you explained
4 hours lunch? My type of job! In my region (Canada) it’s 40 batches in 30 days could be different there
I've never seen batches paying those money. =[
I need help with my time , I am always take at least twice the time ,
I have a hard time with replacments and item not found
U explain quite well!

Excellent point!
Love the dreads
Did you have to wait for insta cart to allow you into the bigger grocery stores like Aldi and public?
I'm new with instacart, can we pay for orders at self-checkout or do we have to go to a normal register?
Is that how people complete the 2 or 3 people order, they shop and then drop off and go back to the store... I was just gonna shop and then leave it in the car and shop again..
do you pay any special insurance on top of your personal auto insurance coverage?
You technically would be using your car for commercial purposes so should let your insurance know and increase your coverage. Otherwise, you would not be covered if you got into a wreck while working. However, if you did not increase your coverage and got into a wreck, you would want to make sure it was not mentioned in either the police report or to your insurance that you were working at the time.
What do I do to subract an item
very helpful
Just signed up with your code. Thank you!!!
I just applied and wondering if I have to wait for them to send me their card?
What is the waiting time for them to approve my application?
I just joined 2day..I started today and I was using the Google Pay..my card was shipped 2 me a couple of hrs. So instead of me waiting on the physical card..I downloaded Google pay app n attached the digital card they gave me ..
My application took less than a week to be approved and the card was mailed out as soon as I was approved. You can begin shopping at certain stores right away with ApplePay while you are waiting on your physical card to arrive :)
@Raising Wildflowers does Google pay also work for android?
That helps.
@@porshab7320 Wonderful advice. Thank you so much!
What does the CT by the item mean? Does that mean how many you are supposed to get or what? New Instacart shopper here.. help
Hi Raising....Do you pay for the plastic bags or the customers do?
Plastic bags are free in FL, but based on the way it works for us in ALDI, customers pay for the bags. At check-out, I am asked how many bags I used and it adds it to the customer's order total.
Customers
Customers pay for bags and watch out cuz cashier's put everything in one bag and they don't separate like we're supposed to
If the store doesn't provide free bags do we have to buy ?
Do you have to be at the store to get an order OR if you live maybe 2-4 miles from the stores you can be alerted at home?
You usually have to be within a mile or closer
great info. thanks
What have you found to keep things separate in your cart?
I grab a couple shopping baskets provided by the store and put them underneath the buggy 🙂 Or, if the store doesn’t have baskets, I have a couple XL IKEA bags I bring in with with amzn.to/43j27ns
When you are checking out multiple orders in one batch do you checkout separately or all together?
3 separately
Seperate
Great video
Im going to start soon, questions areyou shopping all together or separately?
I shop them all together, but separate them in my buggy. I get store baskets to help keep everything organized. Happy shopping!
@@raisingwildflowers cool! Thanks
How do you know whether customer wants BOGO?
Hi, is there a way to cancel an order once you accept it?
Yes go to the top right hit the three dots and do a batch review scroll to the very bottom where they give u an option to cancel and why
I'm sorry it will say batch details and select it then scroll to the very bottom
This is a lie u can sit there and ignore small orders and never get a high paying order. 99 percent of orders I see are under $20 everyday
