First time I heard this song was in the commercials of the MTV Video Music Awards 96. Back then, m|2 and AMP were where people could go and discover amazing music. I miss those days.
nic defendis Bruce lee actually - the laid back style . i always see a female drummer in my minds eye - with a straight back while playing the drums in a sorta relaxed way not hunched over like so many drummers sit. Blond short hair - LOL
everytime i hear this i just think of snow falling at night in a still forest. amazing how an auditory thing such as a song causes such a visual response. simply love this track!
man I saw Orbital in 1992 for the first time with meat beat manifesto and 808 state and they r fucking amazing...its no wonder they have done more sound tracks then anyone!
can't say how many times I've listened to this... I adore the shift from the first part to the second, breaking all the tension that's been building throughout the music-box half of this piece (as I consider the first bit)... and releasing it in a flood of pure desperation. It's a dark and wonderful work, one of my favorite Orbital pieces.
One of my favourite Ordital tracks, take me back to a long weekend on little Loch Broom. Arrived at 8 00 am finished are first bottle of whisky by 10 00 am and then the party began
one of the most outstanding tracks and incredibly gorgeous sounds ever put on record regardless of genre ..... orbital minted amazing sound so often its a shame they don't get more recognition
For me this song always reminded me of those classic 70's progressive rock artists like Mike Oldfield and Jean Michel Jarre. 20 years later and this track still sounds incredibly fresh.
This is it. The one."In Sides" is one of the greatest piece of work ever compiled. I'm confident enough to presume that the album was created AROUND "the box". Any challenges?
Fairuz Urai I suppose this is debatable but I always found that Out There Somewhere Part 2, especially as it develops, to be the most sophisticated song on this album. Adnan's is good, especially around the 4 minute point, as well. I really don't like Out There Somewhere Part 2 until it hits 6+20, but from there on, it might be the best music that Orbital has ever recorded. Since this piece comes so late in the album I think it had more influence on their next album, not In Sides.
I cam here because the 2018 concert from Belfast, which I just listened to, didn't have either part I or part II of The Box. Honestly, I have always loved their stuff, but these 2 songs, taken together, and especially part II, have been my absolute favorites from the brothers. I actually used them in a video project when I was learning Adobe, and attached Part I to a daylight scene and Part II to a night time scene. After editing, the transition was smooth, and it kinda epitomized, to me, the duality of the two parts. This is in my permanent playlist, as well as the entire album being regularly played on my devices. I will never stop listening to them.
Electronical Music is Music for the intellectual Elite from this World! If you think the nerd left from you at school is not a tough guy, then be carefull! It can comes a time in which he is the tough guy, because he can build a computer. You think thats not a big deal? Watch in your Pockets? Whats in there? A Mobilephone!? Did you think the hyperintellectuall Football Star has inventend this? No! It was one Man! A european Serbo-Croat. Thank him! Because America is build on the inventions of this man. Its better for you to realize this, because I hope you are ready, when the machines will not follow you anymore. :)
I just discovered the Box thanks to the incredible performance of the Spanish National Ballet look up Flamenco Najarro on youtube if you've never seen it. Mind-blowing!
Why doesn't anyone have a recording of this from a great CD player that doesn't leave a gap between 6:27 and 6:29 when changing tracks, the album recording has no gaps when combined digitally! Did you use CD rips downloaded?
This song always makes me think of the Cybermen, particularly in World Enoguh and Time/The Doctor Falls and Spare Parts. There’s something equally mysterious and horrifying about it. I’m sure the Hartnolls themselves would appreciate the thought being massive Whovians themselves
They admitted that he was an influence on this track. When John Barry heard The Box he was claimed to say , "I'm sorry, but I don't hear that at all." Really John? I call bullshit on that one. I always assumed it was snobbery, anti-electronica sentiments or maybe he really couldn't hear it, but even my missus calls this tune "that spy movie track".
One of the best songs ever of all eletcronic music production . It brings back memorys of Lovely Sumer Day's back in the late 90's....
Good and sad times , what a bleek dark video when it came out
When my time comes...and I have to lay in the box, I want this song to be played loudly. I want everybody to know I will enjoying my way heaven. Love
I miss the late 90s... It was the my place in the fabric of space and time... but can not keep my memories alive forever

I find this to be one of the most uplifting tracks in electronica that I have ever come across. The way it builds reeks with optimism and energy.
this song is absolutely timeless!
deeply love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful track. Pure genius.
Excellent audio quality. Thank you. This is from the 2 disc album In Sides. Listen to the whole album, you won't be disappointed.
Albums brilliant
unforgettable brilliant song
Heard these guys were amazing live.
Saw them live at the Leeds Met in 1998 and, believe me, they have been the best live act I've seen so far. And I've seen a lot!
one of the most outstanding tracks and incredibly gorgeous sounds ever put on record regardless of genre ..... orbital minted amazing sound so often its a shame they don't get more recognition
They're widely regarded across Europe as some of the pioneers of electric music
For me this song always reminded me of those classic 70's progressive rock artists like Mike Oldfield and Jean Michel Jarre. 20 years later and this track still sounds incredibly fresh.
Thanks for the upload.....what an amazing tune, best tracks of all time

Fairuz Urai None, I agree that the rest of the album was the vehicle for these tunes.
Jablicek nice one...
FAdamsXII Good to feel it was worth reaching out.
just really goes to show that in the,"ether" we exist.Too late for anyone to do anything about it...

when they put my in the last box. I want an ipod buried with me with this track forever looping.
What's an ipod ?..
Kind of sounds like a '60s spy thriller theme tune with bang up to date rhythm going on. All kinds of awesome.
Best hypnoses music ever

Crying out for a steel drum cover version!
Man, Orbital with MBM and 808 state sounds legendary. I'm sorta jealous you got to see that when you did.
Right on. :D
I know exactly what you're talking about! It's perfect for that.

mmmm! como una canción de cuna!!
One of my favorite electronica pieces, but I'm disappointed that the transition between parts I and II was flubbed so badly.
I ripped the disc to FLAC, and played it through WiMP on Windows 10 - if you think *this* is bad, try WiMP. It handles tack gaps horribly.
remind my fav
Always test any new hi-fi equipment with this.
❤
I just discovered the Box thanks to the incredible performance of the Spanish National Ballet look up Flamenco Najarro on youtube if you've never seen it. Mind-blowing!

There was always a gap between 1 & 2
@@stevenporteous6895 There was never a gap between 1 & 2 on the original CD ..
This first intro Tibetan chimes fucking class !!!
I don't know why I think of a rotating warning light when I hear the start of part 2.

Garnet the gem I used to listen to this while I walked around Toronto late at night in the snow. Sufficiently creepy. Drugs not required.

had the cd stolen from me 3 times. Apparently its a well like cd...both of them.
There is something here that is just undefinable. Is this "genious"? Maybe the word is not good enough or far from it...
+Papy Aware It is genius. That's exactly what it is. Bach had it...Beethoven had it..Mozart had it...this has it.

i like orbital but i can see a lot of their influences come from john barry ( and there is nothing wrong with that)
