    I've been an Asics guy my whole adult life. Mainly Cumulus. I underpronate a little so I need a somewhat stable shoe. I am looking for a different brand because Asic's quality has gone down the toilet the past 5 years or so. None of my pairs last more than a year (if that). A hole in the mesh in the toe area always forms. I'm strictly just a walker. I've been eyeing the Hoka Gaviota 5. Thoughts?

    • @james_mccormack

      I hear you! I really liked asics for comfort as I'm on my feet everyday, but was really disappointed about holes in toe area (although it did last 2 years). I've heard this happening with other people though so I'm wondering is it because if quality changing or mesh material?

    • @james_mccormack

      @@True1-10 If you use a trainer daily then 2 years is normal for the life span of the upper. Most uppers are made of engineered mesh so Iikely to get a similar outcome in most trainers.

    Am confused i thought higher heel drop is better for metartarsal pain or mortons neuroma - but are you saying its better to have lower heel drop so that there isnt such a higher cushioning at the back of the shoe? I'm trying to find support for morton's neuroma , slight overpronation and support for ankles for achiclles tendon issue - which trainers would you recommend?

    • @james_mccormack
      @james_mccormack  4 месяца назад +1

      minimalist shoes and a very high heel drop = higher forefoot plantar pressure
      6-8 mm is the grey area
      forefoot rocker reduces forefoot load

    • @rachelheng3862
      @rachelheng3862 3 месяца назад

      @@james_mccormack thank you for the reply! Do you mean 6-8mm heel drop is not so good as this will give hiher forefoot plantar pressure? I was looking at the Asics GT-2000 12 trainers which has 8mm heel drop designed for neutral to overpronation. Is that heel drop on the Asics GT-2000 12 too high for forefoot plantar pressure? Or perhaps the Hoka Arahi 7 is better suited with a 5mm heel drop as a stability shoe?

    • @james_mccormack
      @james_mccormack  3 месяца назад

      It's hard to give a specific opinion as some features in shoes help with different aspects but its only part of the equation. Foot shape, stuctural limitations and alterations in gait all contribute and this is where an assessment is truely helpful for direct advice.
      They are both excellent shoes. We normally recommend a wide shoe with a forefoot rocker for conditions like morton's neuroma
