This was lovely Vicki, thank you for sharing your adventures in Spain prior to the competition. How cool and exciting!
Thank you so much! It was fun remembering it all, and so great that I can share it with you all - I’m so glad you enjoyed it 😍
What a wonderful experience! So fun to see people we live in "3D." 😊I hope to see the documentary, perhaps you will post a link when it is available.
I know, it was fun meeting people in the flesh 😍. I will definitely let you know, as soon as I know any more about the documentary 😃. Thank you so much for watching!
I can't wait for Part 2!
I promise it is coming - been plagued with delays, but I am working on it 😍
No worries, it'll be worth the wait i'm sure. I've barely puzzled before and since finding the puzzle world championship videos on youtube i've brought about 10 puzzles.. Oops!@@Vickymakesandbuilds
Hi Vicky loved the video & I've subscribed & looking forward to watching your previous videos 😊
Yay! Thank you so much for subscribing, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video - I hope you enjoy the others too 😍
I hope the championships continue to grow and get even more sponsors, have a full puzzling convention and all the fun involved with that.
Me too! And I think they definitely will only get bigger and better 😍
After watching the Worlds, I now follow a bunch of you puzzlers who went there haha. I am obsessed with your long builds. I actually have ended up creating a list based off of some you have done! It seems like it was so much fun. I hope they can figure out how to get some air flow in the doom next year so it isn't so sweltering.
Yay! I’m so glad I’ve inspired you to create a puzzle list, and that you love my long builds. As you may have guessed by now, the big builds are my favourites 😄. Thank you so much for following and watching, I really appreciate that. 😍
Yes, it did get awfully hot in there 🥵
I really enjoyed hearing about your experience. Great video! ❤😊
Looking forward to Part 2. Happy Puzzling!
Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I hope to get part 2 out soon 😍
Happy puzzling to you too, and thanks for watching!
Thoroughly enjoyed your video about going to Worlds. I'm sure you all had a wonderful time despite the nerves. I agree with the country rule as explained by you. There are countries who have greater access to puzzles, the US in particular. The US and Spain also seem to have a large number of entrants, a good number of whom get through to successive rounds. I can't say I would wish to watch Worlds if the finals were mainly full of US and Spanish competitors! Fantastic that you all got to the finals of each section. 👍 I felt so sorry for DonnaLouise getting that Lupins puzzle. However when you go to a competition you have to be prepared for whatever appears. Look forward to the next video on Worlds.
We did, it was amazing 😍. I was so pleasantly surprised to get through to all of the final rounds, I just loved that I was able to puzzle all the way through 😃. I felt for Donnalouise too; of course we do all have to take what comes. It’s so subjective though, it was a hard puzzle, but some do like that kind of image to puzzle, just luck of the draw I guess 😊. Hope to get the next vid on Worlds out soon. Thank you for watching!
Haha, at the point in your video when you were contemplating who could have been the first person that approached your group I was already wondering if it was me - because you were just arriving at the Millenium dome. Btw: I like the photo that you found (took?) of me.
Meeting people in 3d that one "knows" from 2d is really an interesting experience. Now I can confess that I struggled with choosing between:
*) opening my arms and offering to give a hug
*) exchanging kisses on the cheek (only 2, not 3 as many Spaniards seem to be used to) or
*) just a formal handshake.
I (we) went for the safe path, the handshake. :-) We may advance to kisses on the cheek next year and hugs the year after. 🙂
He he! I didn’t take that photo, I think it must have been one that the photographers at the event took 😊
I had the same thought process as you to be honest; in the UK we don’t do the kissing on the cheek thing, but I am definitely a hugger. Problem is you never know whether or not someone else is, and if they aren’t, things could quickly get awkward! 😆
I’d say the safe handshake is the way forward 😄
It was so great to meet you there, thank you for being the first to come say hi! 😍
Hi Vicky, well after watching your video we are still glowing and remembering the “Puzzle Olympics”. What an adventure you all had🥰. Looking forward to part 2. From Australia, happy puzzling. Mark+Chris
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it. It did feel a little like the Olympics, with the livestream and everything 😍. I hope to get part 2 out soon! Happy puzzling from the UK too 🥰
It was wonderful to hear about your trip and experience at Worlds!! An experience I would looove to be part of in the future one day *fingers crossed!* Can't wait to see you, Donnalouise, Janette and Jubie start planning for next year!
Thank you - I’m so glad you enjoyed it! If you can go to Worlds I would say, without hesitation, do it! It has been one of the best experiences of my life! Hope to meet you at a future Worlds! 😍
Your video was though simple, it was analytical and very clear! It has wonderful and fun information from start to finish....from greeting people to how you can find out how difficult a puzzle is to so many other things!
I also loved the way you labeled/organized/categorized the WJPC links!
I was wondering why everyone took BULKY puzzle box stands! That A&F puzzle stand is exactly the one I would've traveled with. I find it much more practical and useful than all the others so far! I wish there was a manufacturer out there that would put colorful puzzle piece images on it!
It's a shame you didn't go to a typical Spanish restaurant, instead of eating Mexican food....after all, you ARE in Spain. Well, at least you had the typical "tortilla de patatas'"!
Thank you so much Betty! I tried to get all the information in, but make it personal as far as my experience goes 😄 I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Yes, that box holder was ideal for travelling with, definitely 😍
I did eat some Spanish food, which was lovely, but I’m hoping to get to that in my next video 😊
Ah ha! I've been waiting for this!
😃😍
Great video!!! I still remember how you walked out of the hotel and hugged me on the ramp - I was so happy. And then we hugged at the train station when we were leaving - I was so sad. Miss you!!!
could there have been a potential pillow fight?
Me too! I will always remember that moment, and then when you left I was fighting back the tears 😩. I miss you all too, it was such a memorable and wonderful experience and you guys are my friends for life 😍
😆 after full days of puzzling with not much to eat, we were way too tired for pillow fights!
@vickymakesanduilds I was an flag from my country, Uruguay, in the entrance of the dome. Where there puzzlers from Uruguay? Do you remember their names?
Very, very happy that you had the opportunity to experience the WJPC on all levels. You looked like a kid in a candy store having the best time with so much to see! Thanks for the video🧩👏
Thank you! That’s how I felt 😃 just like a kid! It really was something to be surrounded by so many who love puzzles as much as I do 😍
I stand by I have no problem with the country rule, but I don't think anyone who doesn't finish should advance. BUT in the name of equality I don't think all the puzzles should be from the same brand. I understand financially having a sponsor makes things a lot easier for the organizers BUT it also puts people at an advantage if they have more money to buy more from that catalog where as if all the brands are a mystery you practice with whatever
Yes, I think that’s the key in terms of finishing the puzzle - they would have to be either all the same puzzle, all new puzzles, or of equal difficulty - that’s why it wasn’t mandatory to finish the puzzle. The only round where that was the case was the semi finals where the round puzzles were of comparable difficulty. It’s certainly an interesting talking point 😊. Thank you for watching!
in the thumbnail you look like a postal worker ;)
🤣 yes, I suppose I do, don’t I?
So, when you finally managed to eat some Spanish food, what was your favorite?
...besides tortilla de patatas that Janette said you had for breakfast each day.
We did have a nice restaurant meal one night. There were cured meats as an appetiser, which I really liked. My main course was pork tenderloin I think, I’m not sure if it was, strictly speaking, traditional Spanish food, but it was so tender and delicious. I also had some tapas one day, which were all lovely. 😍
