It's ok to own things...as long as your things don't own you. Great video!

Hello guys love you podcast. A few years ago I suffered a stroke and then had to live in a nursing home for a few years. I was forced to live in a tiny 9' ny 11' space with none of my stuff. I learned that joy and satisfaction comes from who you are, for me with faith. All of my things were in storage. I When I finally got in a new temporary place while waiting for renters to leave my small home . It was then in two years ago I found you guys. I reevaluated everything I own and learned to let things go. This simplified my life. Also letting go of a good bit of my past was very freeing. Thanks guys.

    My favourite things are my
    toothbrush + toothpaste,
    Shower and Loo every morning.
Strange - but true. Then I would
say boots and a nice cosy warm
wnter jacket (not down), for our
    Swiss winters. Plus my bed.
    Love these comforts. Fun video
    guys.

One of my favorite things is my wooden back scratcher that Pier 1 was giving away about 20 years ago (or more) for their anniversary. I had to ask what it was. Some twenty years later I still pull it out of the drawer first thing in the morning. I don't take it with me on trips, but I always notice I miss it.
Love your favorites too, especially your non down coat!

I enjoy your conversations. At nearly 70, I am one of the few minimalists I know. We have a small tv, one small car, and my clothes take up 1/2 a small closet. People we know have large homes to fill with collections.

It's good to appreciate your things. It's not good to give them too much importance.

Im new to this. I have always thought I was but have realized I am not even close. I have so much stuff I can barely fit it in my house. Ok I can't. I have been planning on building a shed and another garage to store my crap. Thinking I just need more space to keep stuff that I need. Ok so Im a hoarder. Well maybe not to the extreme of being on tv but to where I cant get a car into my 3 car garage. But on the topic of favorite things I would say my boots are one, and my tools are another. Tools is both a favorite and hated thing. I use them and get great joy from them. The part I hate is I can never find the one I am looking for. So time to make some changes.

Just became a Patreon and glad I did. Coming from growing up in large house and moving into a small rental, it’s been the best guidance for me to listen to these podcasts.. Love the long talks and you two are the most interesting people, keep it up! Much appreciation here :))

I have a lot of collections. Plushies, a few specific toy lines, Pokemon cards, enamel pins. I love collecting things. I've recently decided I need to cut down the collection because I tend to buy things just for the sake of building the collection, and not because I love it or want it so much. This was an episode I really needed. Thank you!

As a former mattress salesman I got triggered when Josh mentioned his bed and pillow. LOL Man I hated that job but I did learn how to make a good buying decision as a customer. Take my advice people, try it in a store then run for hills and buy online! Great episode y'all.

Josh, I also need to sleep on concrete, so I actually DO sleep on my concrete floor - on a small camping mat. You should try it.

Listening to your podcast while going through my ever expanding knife collection. Isn`t it ironic? I feel that if I continue to listen to you, great part of it will have to go.

My favorite things are not things. Even the emotional items, yes they evoke emotion but the emotion is not locked inside the item. As if when the item is lost or destroyed then the emotions or memories attached are also gone. Such is not the case.

I enjoyed the podcast topic of favorite things. But I think you took Marie Kondo's 30 things out of context.
The 30-book figure does have some basis in Kondo's words, but it's not prescriptive advice. Here's what she writes in The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: “I now keep my collection of books to about thirty volumes at any one time.” But that does not mean she thinks you should have only 30 books.

The cheese thing reminded me of a convo I had with a 5-year-old boy I know...
Boy: “I’ll use the pink marker because it’s my favorite color.”
Me: “Then I’ll use gray because it’s my favorite color.”
Boy: “No, gray is NOT a favorite color!”
