- Alexander Tcherepnin(e) [1899-1977] was a Russian born composer and younger contemporary of Igor Stravinsky [1882-1971]. Better known in piano circles, he was a prolific composer. His Ten Bagatelles (opus 5) [1912-1918, rev. 1958] are perhaps his best known; the first being a staple of piano pedagogy literature. Five of these cry out to be arranged for brass quintet (numbers 1,2,3,5 and 8). I have ordered them here to alternate between three fast and two slow movements. Altogether the entire set is under 6 minutes and would make a compelling concert set. Alternatively, the fast movements would make great stand-alone pieces --- the middle and last would be terrific short encores.
