This may be sacrilegious, but I prefer this to the original. Perhaps it is just musical natural selection, evolving this piece to a form more adapted to contemporary society. I love this, I listen to it a lot - thanks.
For some reason the video set up reminds me a lot of David Garrett's Viva La Vida music video. The mixing of all sounds creating is sooo cool, it's giving me John Cage vibes.
Amazing work!! I’d like to learn more about your approach to arranging and performing this, if possible! I’m a clarinetist and music technology minor looking to incorporate a live looping scenario like this into my college graduation project. If you wouldn’t mind sharing some info, could I contact you? Much appreciated. :)
He's great to talk to! I'm still not sure what I think of this, but I do like that you are making me think about a piece I love in a new way. Still digesting.... Great playing regardless.
Everything is memorized, but in the 3rd movement I use a color coded system of organization on the Push to keep track of where I am. I’m planning to do a behind the scenes video on this at some point so I can show everybody how it works 😀
That warm synth at the beginning was everything.
It's not a synth, it's several tracks of clarinet layered on top of one another and filtered. No synths, all clarinet. :)
Steve Reich redefined music in so many ways. This is an awesome remake!
Its so beutiful James. You made so special. Lovely!
This is my favorite rendition of this piece! So innovative! It really takes the original work into the now.

glad to know fellow twoset fans also listen to steve reich
Synthesizers make everything easy. Reich works with real instruments. It makes a big difference.
This is incredible! Can't believe I just found out about this video.
Great ! It’s amazing. Thank you 😍
Love it James. Special:)
Omg! This is insanely genius!
I speak as a lover of Reich's composition and well...
...THIS IS BRILLIANT! :)
Love it! amazing what you do!

Fucking amazing
Wonderful, thank you for this. Has Reich heard about this project?
Not to my knowledge. I emailed his publisher who said he’d forward it, but never got a response ☹️ Hopefully I’ll get to talk to him about it someday.
Also thanks for watching!

Nice use of Ableton. I've been incorporating it in different ways and have posted some of the videos. Check them out.
Just curious, did you memorize the parts you are playing live or are your reading them off a screen on the device?
