  • If you were looking for a game that shows you a thematic way of playing from the black side of the Berlin, this might be the one! Anish Giri plays the opening confidently against Ivan Saric and gets a fantastic position. He is able to push his kingside pawns, activate his rook and just about everything seems to be going his way. When his opponent liquidates with the move e6, he is able to go into the endgame with a bishop pair against bishop and knight. Just when it seemed that Anish would take the game home, he pushes the wrong rook pawn! Check out how fortunes turn completely in this important round 1 encounter at the World Blitz 2021.

Nice hold in the end by Saric. But man, imagine playing the Berlin in blitz. Literally the Chess equivalent of John Major from the 90's Spitting Image sketches

Could you elaborate please? I was very young in the 90's so not quite understanding the comparison although I know what the sketches were by searching.

Only Giri had some chances to win this game with the 2 bishops.

Without sagar's commentary it feels boring

There's a comment in the title. ;-) I read it as "a5 instead of h4 would have won the game" (at 9:08).
Of course, nothing compares to Sagar's emotional spoken commentary, but I find those blitz games interesting to watch even without commentary. We see not only the moves but also the players' emotions and time consumption.

It's a clock to measure time each player is taking to make a move.
