RCR's biggest issue is Austin Dillions lack of performance. AD's team is RCR's A team with B team results. Olé Pop Pop will soon have a very difficult decision to make when the money that support AD runs dry.

Cars don't run on history, pedigree, or blood. They run on performance and selecting people that are collectively able to achieve at a high level.
RCR isn't run as a company, it's run as a way to let his grandson play race car driver. And the performance shows.
Anyone advertising on their cars, especially Dillon's, is just funding a passion project. Not a business.

The Kurt/Roush deal was a bit different. So Mark Martin said he was done after 2005 at the beginning of the season. McMurray was signed early in 2005 to take over the 6. Kurt dropped the bombshell of moving to Penske for 2006 to take over for Rusty, but I believe he was technically still on contract to drive for Roush for 2006. Roush seemed to ask Mark to do the one more year and had McMurray take over the 97 instead (renumbered 26). I think when Mark agreed to 1 more year Jack washed his hands of everything with Kurt, and as a final "screw you" kicked him out of the car for the final 2 races after the police run in in Phoenix.

And to potentially tie that thinking into the flubbed press release about the worst possible timing, could RCR have been working to secure a higher $$ sponsor so THEY could give Tyler more money to stay past 2023?
Not to say any of the points the guys are bringing are wrong, or a bad perspective either. TYLER is 105% of the talent at RCR to build the whole organization around. All he saw was Austin getting a long term deal and he got a 1 year option when he really would have stayed for the same money in 2023. Also, Austin Hill or Sheldon Creed both have the potential be good picks for the 8 in '23
Just lots of unknowns in playing, or potentially playing in the background on this one. Gives a lot to think and talk about, until we know for sure what all the parties were really thinking.

Part of me also feels JGR plays a bigger role in this than just “ you’re driving our equipment “. I feel JGR wants Reddick in their car soon and could poach Reddick off Hamlin. Judging drivers from two different manufacturers is alot harder than judging someone who’s in an affiliated team like 23XI. If I’m Coach gibbs than I’m asking Denny for every piece of paper of how fast reddick runs.

Now I would be looking at younger drivers in xfinity and truck Series to get some more young blood in there and start working towards the future. And unfortunately the bottom line is they need to figure out who they want to keep spending money on Penske and Gibbs have had to do the same things in recent years and even though their wins ratio has gone down they are surviving with juggled line ups which has me thinking this is like some have said just a shift of power in the top teams and it's coincidentally at the same time a new generation of young drivers are coming up through the ranks and becoming Cup ready drivers and the top teams need to remember when a generation of young drivers like Gordon, Harvick, and Jr came up to Cup level with Stewart tossed in too and the top teams had to decide who they thought 💭 was a young driver they wanted and now most of that generation has retired or will before long the new generation of young guns is not only a very talented bunch but ththey're smart enough to know what they might be worth on the open market of Nascar right now, so I for one 1⃣ am going to be interested to see who the top teams think 🤔 they can build their 🔮 futures on and they best keep in mind that 💭 this new generation for whatever reasons are more aware of their worth on the open market

This is only his 3rd full season in cup the first two and a half years he led a total of 73 laps, this year its been 278. He has improved dramatically in consistency, qualifying, and is a great road course racer - which RCR and all the Toyota teams are deficient in, as well as solid at ovals. It shows he is getting much better at running in the front with more top 5's this year instead of more top 10's but a few top 5's. He is entering the playoffs strong and that is with 4 DNF's, trust me he is a superstar that needs a team and car that can keep up with him. He is level headed and well respected by drivers, never shows his ass in front of the camera - a sponsor's dream. He will be a champion in 5 years.
