    FYI, you do the best job of explaining how to diagnose and repair a problem of anyone I have watched. I have my RV permanently parked. In a forest, 8 miles from any paved road, in Iowa. If something breaks, I have to repair it myself. You are a lifesaver my friend. Thank you many times over. I hope you continue to do what you do for as long as possible.

    We have a Winnie Vista of the same vintage as yours. A couple years ago, I had the same problem, and I shot gunned the check valve, assuming that was the problem. Luckily in my case it was. The check valve is available as a separate item (Shurflo p/n 94-800-03) from the pump. Also, the switches used for the water pump (and elsewhere on the RV) are Carling "Contura II" switches. I broke one of the actuators replacing the light bulb in it. The actuators are available from West Marine (and other boat parts houses) for a reasonable price. BTW, I replaced the incandescent bulbs in the water pump and battery switches with green LEDs that are made to work on 12V (Mouser p/n 593-LTH5MM12VFR4500). The battery switch lamps were very dim, but the super bright LEDs are easy to see, even in direct sunlight.

    I am glad you used spade connectors. I had a customer that lost the electric side of water heater. The power cord was connected with wire nuts and one came loose and fried the wire. I used direct crimp connectors and then added additional electric tape to make sure if my crimp fails the wires would not come apart. I tell all my customers to add electric tape to all wire nuts.

    Question and an observation: 1) I clicked on your ebay link (having a few of these valves in my work van seems like a great idea), and the seller's ebay item description does say 1/4-turn SHUTOFF (rather than diverter) valve. Is it just mis-labeled on the ebay seller's description? 2) I was laughing (because I live this every day) when you panned back to show the tools you needed to complete this project. I've been a handyman for a long time, and it never ceases to amaze me how many tools I can use for seemingly simple projects. Some folks fail to understand how much of an investment professionals make in even simple hand tools (I recently calculated I have close to $1,000 just in assorted pliers!) that are essential in getting projects completed correctly and in a timely manner.

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  2 года назад +2

      No not mis-labeled. These valves go by both names. That is the valve I used though. As far as tools goes, this is why I encourage folks all the time to be building their tool box so when stuff like this comes up you can tackle it. This would of been around a $1,000 job by a RV tech. My cost was $5 (for the valve) + my time. Folks here can do the same thing and put some of that money into tools.
      thx Darrin 👍

    Another Great video. Just corrected the exact issue on my Baystar. I tried a new pump before the ball valve. The cycling pump and overfill of the fresh water tank drove me nuts. Was a lot easier to sneak the new valve behind and not removing the entire panel on a Newmar.

    I think you may have save me a lot of aggravation. I was sure I needed to replace my diverter valve but after isolating the pump like you said, I'm now positive it's the pump which actually will be easier to do. Instead of buying a new valve, a crimping tool, crimping clamps and pex tubing, I just need to replace the pump which looks pretty easy and requires no special tools. Maybe I should have waited to comment until I get and install the pump to be sure I solved the problem but I'm too excited and wanted to thank you now.

Any thoughts on a regular compression fitting? I've been using that with a compression tool. Not real happy with it but it seems to work OK if I can get it in-- sometimes very difficult to use in tight places.

    Martin, thank you for the great video. I’ve been away from motor coaches, motorhomes, etc. for a number of years. As you went through the video you were answering my questions and taking them off one by one. I have a unique problem though and maybe you’ve had to deal with it in southern Colorado. The water is contaminated with multiple radio logical items. in my little city more like a village we have radium and uranium in the water supply. The city acknowledges it and sends a letter out almost monthly saying don’t drink it. Don’t wash with it don’t cook with it. Well, it’s kind of questionable if you’re not gonna wash with it. So we have to buy all of our water. You answered my question about the reverse osmosis system, but do you know of anything that can remove the radioisotopes that are in the water. I got a feeling as if there is something like that it’s going to be expensive. I recently purchased an older Motor Coach 1998 biild but it only had 108,000 miles on it. I didn’t think that was bad. I’m still waiting for delivery. But I am learning a lot from you and I’m enjoying your style and sense of humor as well. Thank you for the tip and how to navigate your website. I’m an old guy, so I enjoy all the details. TK

But they don't stock everything and especially parts that can easily be replaced by 3rd party parts like common plumbing parts. Another example, would Winne replace a factory water pump? Maybe but why. They're readily available online from a number of suppliers.

    You have to be very careful with Teflon tape a little to much and it will snap your fitting and I learned the hard way. It’s better to use a pipe dope for what type pipe you are using plastic copper, just a little something to help you not bust a plastic fitting in the middle of no where .

      I would never use pipe dope in this application.

    There is one other reason the pump is running. The check valve directly on the back of the city water inlet hose. Ours went out and the pump was moving water from our fresh tank out the city water connection.

    And this a great up grade use a 110 volt home heating and use you home type thermostat and there a couple type clips that hold the heat controller to a bare metal spot because you may have to cut and clean a spot on your water tank. With this style you can’t set your heat of you water tank and not use the RV type with the diodes and there cheap wire. Try it you will love it and I forgot there is a big red button in the middle and that’s a built in breaker which is a extra one. And they are a lot cheaper. 12 bucks for heating element.
