For a fan made project, this is seriously impressive particularly when it's been made on a shoe string budget. People should recognise the time, effort and love that went into this film. Why can't we recognise that one man's vision (Gene Roddenberry) has inspired so many people?! I think it's really beautiful that so many people feel passionate about what Roddenberry came up with and want to continue that universe in whatever way they can. How many shows after nearly 50 years still inspire people on this level?! Some Trekkies are right arseholes. To the makers of this, please ignore some of the idiotic comments below.
I think for a group of fans to get together and make a movie out of pure love for a franchise is amazing. A lot of people seem to forget this was not made for Hollywood, it was simply by people showing their appreciation for the show in their own way and wanting to make a continuation of what the enjoy because the higher ups are not doing it. I think they are doing fantastic and have made something truly incredible. Great job guys! =)
Holy shit... This is like Enterprise meets SG-U meets JJ Abrams. If Enterprise had been like this it would still be running. Forget the ridiculous troll comments about acting and actors. Haters gonna hate. Everything about this looks totally top-drawer, it's unbelievably beautiful, good acting from everyone, good music, it's everything Enterprise should have been.
Are you watching the same video I just watched? Whilst this is cool for a fan project, it most definitely is NOT "Enterprise meets SG-U meets JJ Abrams" standard nor anything like it. The CGI is pretty decent but it's the sets that give the game away. AND the unconvincing actors. Fix those two issues and they're on to something.
terrypussypower You mean the sets that look like they came straight from the television show? I don't find the acting unconvincing. Watch any of the modern Treks and get a masterclass in wooden, formal, passionless delivery of lines from a bad script. I love Trek but compare its acting and dialogue to SG-1 or SG-U. Bermaga simply didn't have what it takes to compete in the modern world. I honestly don't see what people are complaining about here. The number of likes versus dislikes says it all.
nopoet406 On RUclips the no. of likes versus dislikes is NOT an indicator of quality by any stretch of the imagination. Just check out Justin Beiber videos for confirmation of that fact!
Now this is Star Trek! luv how they got the original classic style Rhomulan ships in full cgi splendor. And the sfx/cgi look really good for a fan made trailer, Abrams should take note.
+SurpriseGuest1 off the chain, think of it as fan film after fan film. That are breaking or hopping off the chain of horrible and bizarre fan films. This actually looks pretty good.
So true, I'm a die hard, have the special edition voyager DVD sets. And the Star Trek Encyclopedia, it's my mom's. Only has every thing up to season 6.
No matter what the general critical judgment declares in the end, I say more power to the people behind the various Trek fan series and movies, like this. Never forget that TOS was always on the verge of cancellation or bankruptcy in its time, and it thrived despite the odds. I'll be watching for this.
I watched this could not believe what i was seeing.... this is fantastic for fan fiction. I'm sure this is going right up there along with J.J.Abrams work, it has epic written all over it. This is one film I'm not going to miss. Must see.
If you take into consideration budget and other resources available then this is incredible. All the haters need to recognise what this actually is, basically a fan film. It doesn't have a 100 million budget. Actors seem OK too. Keep up the good work guys.
People are so obsessed with TOS and earlier time frame. I can't believe no one except Worf and Riker are trying to contine the TNG era (TNG, DS9, Voy) era time line. I grew up watching those shows and they feel completely abandoned. edit: Damnit, I forgot about Renegades. Here's to Tim and crew getting that show considered by CBS!
I thought it would be cool to spin off a Timeship Relativity mini-arc or series, or perhaps do a ST series like the AHS, each season be a diff crew/ship/theme or whatever.
Every so often I feel the need to comment here to counter the negativity of our troll viewership. I know I shouldn't feed these trolls but this film was made by my friends. It is a labor of love and I care deeply for those involved. This is an independent film, as it says in the description, made with a budget that is amounts to basically nothing. It will cost the viewers nothing. And yet so many feel the need to spew insults at my friends and myself. And yet every single time I go to see what these critical thinkers have done themselves I find nothing. So the only thing I know about them is their vile and rude comments. I feel sorry that that is all the world will know of these people. As for this upcoming film: If you have ever spent time behind a computer modeling a set or a ship or a battle sequence you will know the amazing work being done by Tommy. If you have ever tried to make a feature length film, edit it, compose a soundtrack, sew the costumes, schedule the actors, apply makeup, track the sound, hold a boom mike or even just write a screenplay then you will know what it takes. If you have ever acted in front of a green screen, often alone, without interaction of others and try to convey the meaning and depth of a scene then you will know what myself and the others went through. If you have not done any of this then please try it. It is rewarding, fun and you will have a finished product you can be proud of. It is easy to throw insults anonymously from behind your computer. The reason it is easy is because you are just an observer in a universe of people doing things and they are out there while you are not. Do something besides being a rude, angry troll. My mother used to say "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." It was not for the benefit of those that we were insulting. It was for our own benefit. No one likes an jerk.
My Friend , I loved it !! It was better than any mainstream film. Saw it a few times in a few days !! I just literally found it .. You guys should seriously consider making a sequel. Ps. The characters where real , really good. And the story! I was hooked from the start. Never knew and didn't care it was fan made!! It was better than other films. Better than studio produced ones !! And fact it was made on a tiny budget by fans , is all the more credit to you. Film was brilliant man!!!! Definitely my favourite star trek film. You guys deserve awards left right centre !!! I would have happily paid for it !!! P.s.Film deserved recognition , Oscars and a medal of honour . Hope you got more recognition and praise than your comment alludes to !! Really do.
That is very well done. I have seen a few Independent Star Trek projects but they all look obviously Independent, this looks on the same level as a big budget movie.
***** That's because of the massive amounts of lens flairs. It's so strange that for one hundred years, film makers did everything in their power to avoid lens flairs, and now people add as many as possible...just saying.
Goddamn Paramount! Because they don't give trekkers new series, Star Trek has now become fraught with a multitude of fan-fiction films and mini series that are all trying to somehow make their mark on the Star Trek universe. But they will never be canon, the acting is always a bit off, and the stories always seem convoluted. Fans who love something too much, should NOT write or create anything for the franchise that they love because it all becomes cliché of said franchise. And because it's never gonna be seen as official canon, I can never take these fan-creations seriously. What's worse, I'm starting to have trouble sorting through all the fan-bullshit and the actual canon material. As little as being produced these days.
Disagree. Star Trek has been around long enough for fans with means to actually write their own stories. There's demand, Paramount can't or won't provide, so why not find a new source elsewhere?
suryavajra Stories are only as good as the actors and directors abilities. In this trailer all I saw was flat acting and poor lighting with over saturation filters. Story might be good but the delivery is what is going to bury it.
Dirges I'd give it a shot and see what comes of it. Ofcourse fans are not going to have the sophisticated equipment and the skill of professional actors. You still got to admire their effort though.
Guys, seriously - this looks BETTER than Renegades. I really mean that. Despite having official hands in the making of the production, Renegades missed the point on so may occasions throughout their feature. This trailer alone captures the tone, style, and overall feel of Star Trek while actually looking like it has a good script and good actors. Sign me up. I love this. This is more worthy of being picked up for a pilot than Renegades. Congratulations!
To thebbeenn, zeven and other self righteous unappreciative jerks: go be Aholes elsewhere...to the many hard working independent trek filmmakers: thank you for all the hard work and efforts to keep this magical universe alive!
I'm with you. Star Trek: Horizon is a really great Star Trek fan film! If I were a movie reviewer I'd give it 5 out of 5 stars for a really great job well done. This is still better than that really awful reboot 2017 show "Star Trek: Discovery!"
Man, it was brilliant !! Amazing all of it: the story, the acting, the cinematography, the direction, the graphics, the score , everything !! It was better than a star trek film !! As far as I'm concerned , it's a. My number 1 trek film now (seen them all) and b.it was Aaamazing !! c . Fin fantastic brilliant !! Cant believe they got grief !!
IMHO, I personally like the Look of the NX class ships over the typical Star Trek Ship with the Body / Deflector Array standing out. I know it has no purpose in space, but it just seems more aerodynamic, more streamline, than a lot of other Star Trek Ships. I'm happy to see someone taking the NX class ships and making awesome visuals with them.
MAJOR problem here, we aren't supposed to physically see a Romulan until a point in the original series some 100+ years later. How can we have a defector, with out people seeing what T'mar looks like?
Also in that part said that the Romulans do not have warp drive , it would be quite long war do not you think ? is it so hard to ask Vulcans or Orions what are the Romulans? the ST canon is full of nonsense
considering how similar romulans are to vulcans, it wouldnt suprise me if they never knew......besides in ENT they fought with romulans.....through drones...
Mass Ryb A lot of people think the Romulans didn't have warp drive, but there is no reason to think that. This belief comes from one line spoken by Scotty in Balance of Power. Kirk asks him about the ships capabilities (in general). He says their *power* is simple impulse. If you understand that warp coils can get their power from a warp core (matter-antimatter) or any other power source (fusion engines on an impulse engine) then it's clearer. Their warp coils were fed by power from impulse engines only. Without a M/A reactor, they didn't have as much power as the Enterprise, but that doesn't mean they couldn't go warp speeds. Cochrain's ship, the Phoenix, for example, didn't have a warp core, and Romulans would (centuries later) power their warp coils with an artificial singularity. Power source on Enterprise: M/A reactor. On BoP: Impulse engines (fusion). On Great Birds in 24th Century: singularity. Any of these power sources can power warp coils. Now - add to that the fact that Scotty was talking about ONE type of experimental ship - not the entire capability of the Romulan Star Empire.
I'd honestly love to see this hit the big screen, I found ST Enterprise and the 22nd century the most interesting and eventful era of Star Trek. It marked the birth of Earth more militaristic approach to space exploration, and also sparked alliances which finally gave birth to the most important even in the alpha quadrants history, the Federation. It would be fantastic if the owners of ST explored more of that era on the big screen.
This trailer is pretty cool stuff guys; like the music with it too. You are on the right track, and I can't wait to see your work on the movie. Keep it up and I know from what I see so far that you are capturing the fifth series atmosphere--really tough to do on a tight budget. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, people are just assholes! Guys, great job going after this! I look forward to seeing the actual film. And for the would be critics, shut it. These guys are doing their best and trying their hardest. It's more than most, at least they have the balls to go for it. I support it. End result, good or bad, it'll be an enjoyable experience and one that I hope will help the producers grow their talent.
hats off to you guys. Trying to save the legacy alive. I am tired of seeing commercial bs and mindless actions in new star trek movies. missing all the social, psychological, innovative ideas. this is what happens when you give millions of dollars to a star wars fan to make a star strek movie ie:J.J. ABRAMS. back to this very movie; I will BUY it and watch it to support my trekkie brothers and sisters :).
Nice trailer.. Have to nitpick a little about the fire on the ship around 0:28. In space there is no wind, so the smoke wouldn't look like that. (assuming a fire could even burn at all in space)
Thought the same thing there should'nt be a fire but i figured it's because of the oxygen being fed to it from the hull breach and the smoke is probably because of it being burned off the metal frame and interior supplies.
Frank Garcia My complaint was less to do with the fire itself, and more to do with how the smoke trailed behind the ship without any wind to push it back there. However, the more I thought about it, I realize the same effect could be achieved in space if the ship were accelerating. But if the ship were just coasting, the smoke would fly directly away from the hull, and not be blown back like that.
The iBookGuy Not unless it was at warp, i.e., bubbles; if it was coasting or not, the smoke particles wouldn't have the same speed once they left the ship. Their motion would be determined by the force of the heat and general dispersion effect, (water drops to droplets, etc...) While it might've been enhanced for effect, their would be a trailing effect. (Inside a warp bubble, the dispersion would likely fog the bubble more- outside, it should trail behind...)
Don't listen to the jerks complaining about your AMAZING looking fan film. Peoples expectations are way out of line with reality. A few lens flares are fine, JJ just over did it. Any way it's not even important
For all of you who thought JJ Abrams didn't use enough lens flare and special effects this will suit you nicely. Honestly i will just watch Star Wars for my brainless shoot em up special effects. Star Trek *was* about exploration, new ideas, to boldly go where none have gone before. Now we get watered down special effects shows with little care for showing new ideas. Thanks but i will just re-watch The original Star Trek or The Next generation or Voyager. Nice production quality for a "fan made film" but special effects don't cut it.
Zevin X Definitely give it another go. DS9 is really good. The one that disappointed me was Voyager. I would have liked to see them when they got back to Earth.
Skullsgate Will do! For some reason the whole idea of deep space nine being all on a single station really made me shy away from it. I will give it another chance.
I CANNOT WAIT to see this. So far the fans have been making GREAT films. This is (Based on the trailer) No exception! Let us know when the film comes out! ME WANNA SEE!!!!
I figured I would chime in here and open myself up to take a beating from all the experts online. Thank most of you for the love, there is a lot of work here. For the haters, we will take all your criticism to heart but be ready for ours when you make your own feature film. Firstly - For this feature film to be made with what amounts to NO budget is amazing. Very few people alive can say they made a quality feature length film. There is no question that Tommy Kraft deserves great praise for undertaking and completing this project. Most of this feature was filmed in a basement, a cold, concrete floor, spider infested basement. Secondly - JJ Abram's first Star Trek made over 100 million in the US alone. The second was a much higher budget but still made over 40 million domestically, those numbers easily matched by international revenue. He brought a lot of people into the franchise. According to movie goers he knows what he is doing. We can debate technique and lens flares though. Thirdly - yeah, I suck. Check out my IMDB page at www.imdb.me/paullang . It will help raise my ratings, get me more jobs and I promise to spend a portion of that on acting classes. However the rest of cast performed wonderfully. I know this because believe it or not I have been around actors a long time. Lastly - There are so many technical questions to answer. Does any of the crew actually see a Romulan? Is he the "Future Guy"? Do the Andorians fly in and save the day? Well just wait until Winter.
the trailer is very impressive...looking forward to seeing this. also love the fact that this proves you do not need half a billion dollars to make a decent looking and excitied movie
How about this solution for the no visual contact canon? No human saw the face of a Romulan during the Earth-Romulan War, AND WAS ABLE TO REPORT IT. So that leaves room for visual contact with an Earth ship that was lost with all hands immediately afterwards. Also there is the possibility of Romulans capturing humans, taking them prisoner, not informing Starfleet that they have POWs, and keeping them captive after the end of the war, so the POWs never return home.
No, remember Trip died? Well actually he didnt, he was used by the predecesor of Section 31 to infiltrate a Romulan Warp program with the help of Vulcan Intelligence. Section 31 knew of the relationship between Vulcans and Romulans through Vulcan intelligence, Starfleet did not. And whats with you against the Enterprise era?, I mean its not like the TOS era is all that strict with its canon.
pizzapicante27 The whole canon discussion is really frustrating. I mean, it almost seems like most of the people think they are the only star trek fans out there that have detailed information about the lore. First of all: The people making such fan projects have put many many hours of thought in it before even beginning the project. They WILL be aware of canon issues and if they decide to ignore or explain them their own way, then it is a concious decision, not something that has to be pointed out under their trailer in a youtube comment. And even if that was the case, what is the point? at this point, the script for the movie is long finished. So, what I ask myself, always, because fan film productions don't tend to make that much bigger canon-breaks than the official series, is only one question: Does this Trailer make sense. Not in the context of all star trek canon but ONLY this trailer itself. Does this, what I see in this video, convince me that it makesenough sense to me to enjoy it? If yes, okay. Then I'll happily find solutions for canon issues. If not, okay. Then I am not going to watch this. Why would I bother to point out all it's canon mistakes if the most obvious mistake is complettly different: It didn't convince me. People should consider that FANfilm projects are made by people that try to do something for their fandom, not only idiots.
Andrea Gondová Question of the day. I know Tommy is working hard at it because we get to see snippets every so often. It looks amazing and will be well worth the wait. But being that the team is not very large it might be a while.
Paul Lang It looks amazing! I wonder which software is being used to animate and render the 3d models? Maya, 3d Max? Great job guys! Really looking forward to watching the movie.
Paul Lang Thank you for your reply. The link you provided: ProjectNReSource gave me a lot of answers. I am not surprised they are using Premiere Pro and After Effects as these are kinda like an Industry Standard. If people wanted to volunteer, let's say for your next project (this one looks like it is pretty much done to me) and they are borders (USxCanada) apart (internet probably) .... Who should I contact?
Valter Vilar Why wait? Ask ***** if he needs any help. It is a little late in the game but I am sure the conversation will be enlightening. He is the mind behind this whole thing.
looks prety decent for a independant fan fic. The CGI is particularly good for an indi - thats probly why a bunch of the reading challenged folks in the comments are slating it, because they are comparing it to a holly wood film. best of luck with this one folks, hope ya make enough to cary on and make more films and stuff.
I don't get it, this movie is built on passion of ST fans around the world, without crazy money backing it up. Yet people still compare it to high budget Hollywood movies. Get real ppl....
***** I agree with your sentiment, but please don't propagate the myth that the original series was "low budget" check out startrekmyths.tumblr.com/. I believe this was also backed up by Whitfield's book "The Making of Star Trek" from around 1975 (Roddenberry was in a constant battle with the network over how much he spent on special effects). While Roddenberry didn't have the biggest budget (Irwin Allen did), he didn't have the smallest either.
***** people didnt even know what CGI was back in the 60s. during the 80s, cgi, like all other aspects of computers - were still at a somewhat young age. and it wasn't nearly as good quality as it is now. compparing modern star trek efects to old star trek effects is like comparing green screen with a background belt. totally different tier of movie technology lol that being said, because this is a fan made film, the true ideas of star trek hold FAR stronger than they EVER will in Hollywood, which is why i have confidence Gene Roddenburry like vibes will emanate from this movie. I have faith. I will watch it upon release. :)
Boo Ninny Correct. When startrek hit TV it was the top of the tops of tv special effects. Only movies of the day could beat the effects and those were much more expensive and took longer.
Spring 2015. Keep an eye out on the web page and we will announce the premier. I believe we will be showing this at a few comic cons and then releasing via RUclips.
Looks really cool. Been wanting to see a fan production fill in for the blank post-Enterprise era. I've watched a lot of fan productions over the last decade and a half and this one has an instantly distinctive style to it. Naturally many people are going to shit on low budget films like this for one reason or the other, but the amount of work and passion required to produce this purely out of love speaks for itself.
I am not a trekie but i have enjoyed star trek for over 40 years and compared to the recent trek films this looks anything but epic and what is with the cartoon style graphics and the leatheret lazyboy armchair , maybe this is economic recession trek !
+Paul Lang, I took some time to read alot of the comments here. Its amazing how many people have passed judgement on this movie and your acting ability, especially considering they've only been able to see the heavily edited preview. You've been surprisingly patient with all the trolls who can't wait to tell you that this is not a "real" movie, and its not a "real" Star Trek film. You've managed to hold your sanity as troll after troll vents their impotent rage on you, because you don't look like a soldier (instead of JUST a Captain). Well, they can just go ahead and spew their bile as much as they want. It wont change the fact that you and the rest of the actors and production crew got off your butt and DID SOMETHING. Meanwhile, these sad little people just sit in front of their computers and look for any chance to say they don't like this, and they don't like that, and you suck. This is what they like to do.This is what gives them pleasure. Their life is so meaningless and empty, they lash out at others who actually HAVE a life. Others who aren't stuck behind a keyboard, growing even more bitter, and fatter every day. There is safety in doing nothing, and there is risk in doing anything. Scared, scared little trolls. Sad, sad little boys. I pity you... sort of. Until you finally RISK failing, by doing something difficult or scary or important, you will just be a greasy mound of putrid flesh making little bubbly fart noises. Meanwhile, the rest of us will walk in the sun. We will do what we really want to do in our lives. We will risk failure. We will make. We will dream up new things. We will truly live. Unlike you, sad sad little troll.
+Douglas Eaton-Landis Thank you Douglas. I couldn't agree more. I try and not get angry but sometimes they get the better of me. Hope you have enjoyed the movie by now. Tommy is a genius and he deserves all the praise in the world. LLAP
I couldn't say it any better than this. I could only use more words. I hate trolls who complain about fan-made films, especially one that looks as stunningly well thought out as this. Horizon is one of the fan films that looks like it actually means business.
ProjectNReSource if I was gonna ask for one thing from u guys for this is better audio. I doubt all the guys voices sound that high for real. With better quality audio they would sound amazing and would get us more into this trailer.
riedstep Ya its the discovery, so we didnt see the crew with archer, trip, tpol and so... but this is a different crew and i think the movie will be great!
The bad comments are the best compliment this movie could get. It means it's good enough for people to actually take it seriously instead of giving it half a smile.
On a serious note: People SERIOUSLY need to stop relying on music to colour the mood of a scene. It should come from the acting and dialouge, not "generic emotional trailer music #291". Just my two cents.
Has anyone seen "Star Trek Continues"? It's a fan made production of the original series, it is suprisingly good, there have been 3 episodes made that i know of.
Can I just point out how ironic it is that alot of these hardcore trek fans who love to trash all the action in the new trek because it isn't "cerebral" enough, apparently don't have the brainpower to realize this is a fanmade film?
To all those who are trashing this on the production value.. There is only one truth to it. Those who can, do, those who can't review. So that being said I wouldn't complain about the acting, it is what it is. I wouldn't complain about the effects or even the lensflares. The complaint, petty though it be, is that it's just a regurgitation of the TV show. No one is ever willing to do something different or be original. It's always mimicry of the TV show like they're worth mimicking. Blah.. Sorry.. I just can't get into the studio's version of Trek anymore or a fan attempt at re-doing the same tired material. Something like what happened to BSG needs to happen to Trek, but MORE. Re-imagine the show, don't try and just make a modern version of the OLD shitte. I had hopes JJ was going to do so, with the standard trek trope of an alternate history, but no it's just the same old shitte polished and lensflared. I appreciate the lensflares but there is not meat to the story or production, just a gazillion dollars worth of effects to put a shiny finish on turd. The new Star Wars will be no better..
james ward-gwilliam Do you refer to Star Trek Online? If so I have no comment. My trek fandom had largely ended when it came out and I never even looked at it. I have seen the 2 new trek movies but didn't add them to my collection. I won't mention how much the 'prequels' put me off Star Wars. :)
Lensflare Deviant im not really a big trekikie i just enjoyed playing STO and it impressed me how much attention to detail etc they put in so maybe you should have a brief look. the movies were okay. and i have hope that in star wars episode seven will rekindle a bit of the flame
Yeah. This looks way more epic, and looks like it has more meaningful content than the JJ films. It amazes me how fan-films always capture Trek better.
That's because they're usually run by people who genuinely love Trek for what it represents, and at least have a sense for Roddenberry's vision of the future. Abrams has been quoted as saying he was never a Trek fan, and that the new Trek films were expected to develop a new viewer base, not to please existing fans. While I understand the need for new fans, they can be found by creating something great that ALSO hits all the right targets to be seen by fans as genuine Star Trek.
fan made productions tend to be made by those who truly have heart and understand the spirit of what this was intended to be...when the budget is huge there are too many controlling every aspect of the production under the assumption that their money gives them the right to make creative decisions when they are in fact completely devoid of any creative concepts and are only concerned with getting their investment back plus a lot more
jj abrams new films are a watered down version which laid trash to the trek franchise. and as a person whose love for DS9, i must say this "The line must be drawn here, this far and no further!" DS9 Quark "The line has to be drawn here!" (The Dogs of War)
This definitely looks like a better movie than the two JJAbrams ones but i probably would have funded for a kickstarter for a bit better acting and better CGI effects but that's just me.. either way i think this movie will be great, i've wanted to see the Romulan War, but didn't get to since Enterprise abruptly ended.
haha jj abrams did to star trek what bay did to transformers how does it feel?... wait a min im a star trek fan also... Damn it. i get double shafted by these movies
I personally can't wait to see this. Along with Axanar and this I haven't been this excited for something star trek related in a long time. The fact that it's a fan film is astounding. Until Paramount pulls it out and decides to make a Romulan War epic then I say go for it. Continue making more of these and I am counting down the days till it's released.
Personally I think it's well done especially considering it's independent. As we know, the timelines got all screwed up with the first JJ Abrams instalment, so anything goes now anyway. Thx.
Looks good but I'll have to watch it again when I can hear it better. Judging by the uniforms they're wearing this happens about a hundred years before Kirk ' s time.
The problem is that ANY TV show, and I mean ANY show, is only as good as the actors in it. And these actors are so amateur that it hurts. You can't just overwhelm with special effects and hope that covers it.
These are just normal people, not pros... This is what you expect when you make and see a fan or amateur production. They did what they could with the budget they were allowed and told a good story, Its quite silly how you can hate on this so hard because of the CGI and bad acting... Don't expect masterful Hollywood level acting, set design and effects with multi-million dollar budgets compared with a fan production that probably never even hit 100k in costs with actors who are most likely the friends of the film makers who do it for the love of trek.
star trek should not be about war, it should be mostly about broadening our understanding of ourselves, how we should live and our place in the universe.
Sounds like the script could have used a polish (some redundant phrasing that messes up flow) but it looks good overall. I'd rather watch this than Crap Trek 3 Beyond.
+FirstChannel Thank you! We'll be releasing next month. No exact date yet but closer to the end of the month. It will be free for anyone to watch via RUclips :)
This is Awesome So future Guy returns and he is giving information to the 22nd Century Romulans on how to build better Defences and offenses that would of happened if Enterprise had a fifth season.
Wow...I mean...WOW! This is really nicely done! Instead of making a movie, how about making a series out of this? This looks actually pretty cool! Good job so far. Can't wait to the final result!!!
maybe Bakula will consider the next one after this release... Archer & T'Pol were the best IMO, and Enterprise was "schlonged" by the powers that be by cancelling season 5, 6 and 7.
+JillSaphic Agreed! I love those two so much and Archer is easily my favorite Trek character of all time. Whilst I have no plans to do more Trek fan projects after this, I'd certainly be willing to be persuaded if they showed an interest :P Seems highly unlikely, though.
+Neville Ross wrote: +JillSaphic: Why should Bakula want to do more Star Trek again? Why not try and accept the new movies and the upcoming TV show? what? how would I know what Scott wants, but I guess one could've asked the same of every major Star Trek actor, not many of them seem to have ever turned down movies, or guest spots/cameo roles. Maybe for the fun and some extra money? Maybe to keep themselves currently relevant in the Star Trek universe? And as for the SECOND part of your reply to me, you should read it again. I AM supporting new and upcoming, and giving positive feedback in my reply, you silly bugger!
it's odd, it's about money I'm sure, star trek next Gen wasn't good until the best of both worlds episode at the end of season 3. I loved all seasons of enterprise but a lot of people like season 3 and 4 more, so star trek enterprise didn't get a fair shake like next gen. I loved trip
LudicFallacies Consider what it costs to have someone with the knowledge of how to use the equipment to balance the sound on set for the length of time required, and that someone who is exceptionally good at that job is likely to be hired for more money by a larger budget production. They have to work with what's available to tell the story they're making. I'm fine with the sound being a bit rough if I can hear the dialogue, and the explosions don't threaten to blow my eardrums.
LudicFallacies funny you should mention that , i would have said it the other way around, because so many big budget movies have the background music/effects up so loud ........half the time you cant hear them talking and you miss the spoken plot, seriously .........take note of some of the audio on some of the old block busters over the last 15 years. on some of them , it is almost as if theres really not enough action happening to lead one special effects eye candy scene to the next, so in lieu of something interesting happening the sound is turned up to exaggerate the drama. for my money it totally spoils the flick.
mikldude "half the time you cant hear them talking and you miss the spoken plot," You are watching a pirated movie that was in 5.1 that has been converted to 2 channel audio and in the process the center channel can be drowned out if the pirate doesn't know WTF they're doing.
LudicFallacies i suppose that is possible, i would have thought though that if the movies where shown on the telly/paytv they would have been legit, but yeah you just dont know these days .
I am fascinated by the criticism and hate here in comments but the trailer and the film it represents looks good to me, it surely seems preferable to me over the gleaming, derivative, puffy nacelle spiritually dead Abrams films and the idiotic universe those 2 films represent. The concept of fan made films is the greatest emerging force in film-making, effects and production keep improving, and the stories a written no to be pleasing to producers and marketing teams but to FANS. Studios and Hollywood are going to be left behind...in favor of fan funded, fan supported, fan created films. Just remember, if big studios cannot supply us with the stories and films we want...we can make them ourselves.
Peter Dawes I think it's the limitation of the thing called talent. If the tool that you use does stuff like that, then why use it. Imagine if in the real star trek they'd shine a flashlight in the camera all the time and then say "it's the limitation of shining the flashlight in the camera".
Peter Dawes agreed....i'm sure aftereffects and a plethora of additional effects packages were used as well....first impressions of this are very positive...
Looks cool, but needs some better actors, also the guys all look dorky. Needs new tough looking guys in it, but over all, I look forward to this movie being made. I would enjoy watching it.
better actors cost more money and i get the impression that the budget for this was a lot less than thirteen figures...there are fan made productions in which the actual actors from the shows contribute their talents and these are well worth watching...i can live with a really good story even if it's not technically perfect
If this abominable farce is what lies at the end of the path, then I am sorry for the professionals who gave their lives for Star Trek, only to be honored with this unbearably amateurish addition.
perhaps my perspective is different because i try to be positive when i see efforts such as this since it's much better than most who could have done not having access to the sets (or green screen mock ups) or the, production staff and time and the editing/cgi programs used to create this... finding fault is always easy...proving you can do better is more complicated and costly
ENT and First contact should be the pre-history of the JJverse. Both flew in the face of TOS so much they can't possibly be canonical with that timeline
Great! a fan-film set during my favorite Star Trek age. Lens Flares: Not as exited anymore. Future Guy trying to destroy the Federation: Obviously skipping the Christopher Bennet book series, not really all that excited, really.
The focus is always on war, now; never exploration any more. I wonder if anyone even thinks of that, or if having a Bond villain is just accepted as a prerequisite.
They tried to make a Star Trek film about exploration, remember? From what I understand, Star Trek: The Motion Picture didn't do very well at all. And I think people weren't terribly invested in Star Trek: The Journey Home, either, if you count that as being more exploratory. Nowadays it's action that sells sci-fi movies, for the most part. I'd gladly watch sci-fi stuff with less action and more science or mystery, but I know I'm probably in the minority.
WhiteRhinoPSO I liked the Journey Home.... The original motion picture required me to be older to fully appreciate... But I do understand your statement the wars are more interesting to more people... Exploration requires alot of work and thought with little payback...
Chris Cantrell I've enjoyed every Trek movie I've seen, though some more than others. The Journey Home has a soft spot in my heart because for a while it was the only one my family hax on VHS. I'm alwayw up for a more exploration-oriented sci-fi movie, though. But I also love my action or horror ones, too. =P
I'm impressed! Star Trek doesn't always have to be about The Enterprise. (Even though I LOVE The Enterprise!!!) I find it fascinating to explore more of the World of Star Trek.
I always wanted these universes expanded (Star Wars) with different views and angles and takes on the tired old yesteryear safe sameness, Hooray something different!
+Virtus H I know. But why not be bold and go somewhere, no one has gone for a long long time? Exploration, Adventure, Science, Diplomacy, Tolerance, Curiosity, Diversity... I'm so bored of starships fighting each other. :/
+cl10k I get you, but look. Its a 90min movie. Its almost impossible to make an interesting and exciting movie about adventure, or diplomacy. These thing are too deep to fit in 90 min and top of that it requires a really good writer too, while an action move not. And wars/conflicts were always one of the major parts of the ST series. Maybe its starting to get a bit of boring, but as a true ST fan, I totally love anything that is related to ST and I can see on that product it was made with effort. And I think both of us agree on, that this movie is pretty mutch the max what can be done, with this budget, soo Im really excited about it! :)
+Kira Yamato the Space Jesus Just to clear things up, as a ST-Fan for nearly 30years I'm really grateful for all the afford people put into this movie! I can understand when major studios make mainstream movies, I just hoped for something else from an independent studio. Nonetheless I really look forward to the release! :)
Ah come on, war, conflict and blowing shit up? That wasn't the core message of gene roddenberry's Star Trek. It was about the human spirit of exploring the unknown and learning from it. I will not be watching this movie.
Agreed. Like so much Trek fanfic this transposes current US centric 21st century ideals into the Star Trek universe. Roddenberry realised that the only way we'd make it to the future at all was by changing our current attitudes. This looks like just another Marines in Space.
Luke Bellmason All of the Trek series were a reflection of the time in which they were produced. While Roddenberry's Star Trek may have professed to be peaceful exploration of the galaxy, in practice it was nothing more than Federation imperialism, e.g., "A Private Little War", "A Taste of Armageddon", "Omega Glory", "Plato's Stepchildren". All cases of Kirk imposing Federation (read "American" or "Western") values on other cultures. Fast-forward to the 1980s and TNG, and we see at least lip-service paid to peaceful exploration, but this was at the same time as the demise of communism and NASA LEO shuttle missions making scientific "space" exploration downright routine and boring. Then we get to DS9 at the same time as Desert Storm and religious fundamentalism in Iran, and we get Sisko battling absolute dictators (Founders as Saddam Hussein) and religious leaders (Kai Winn as the Iranian ayatollahs). Voyager gave us more of the same, fighting the ultimate dictatorship of the hive-minded Borg. Enterprise tried to return to a more peaceful zeitgeist, but it quickly foundered in the ratings until it became more conflict-oriented, and never was able to fully recover to the point of completing its full run. Unfortunately, with today's 24-hour news cycle bombarding the American psyche with blow-by-blow descriptions of military operations, we have become inured to a higher level of violence to the point that without an extreme level of out-and-out wartime conflict American viewers just won't be bothered to watch.
Nice but Star Trek and fans need to decide where to take the series franchise (Star Trek) and where to take the movie reboot series (Star Trek 2009-). Action series is cool but NOT "The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, etc. Star Trek is about explorers, discovery, science not just blowing up space, etc. There is a reason why fans are so many.
+nycelite18 You know what I think is cool? Star Trek is everything to everyone. It's not JUST explorers or JUST action, it's something different to every fan and every fan has their own personal connection with it. That being said, I think my film has a really good balance of exploration and action, but I suppose that'll be up to you to decide when it comes out on February 28th :)
nycelite18 ......Excuse Me, yes you are entitled to your opinions but I do believe that you wish you were in any way shape or form related even remotely to anything, anywhere, anytime, to each and every bit of the Star Trek Franchise. Don't knock what you don't know anything about. My sister is a wig master, makeup artist, costume designer, and milliner, she's an expert craftsman, And she worked on the series DS9, and two films. I got to meet the technicians that created the prosthetic latex applications, the creature sculpting, the costuming, the hair design, all of it. I got to go onstage to meet the actors, and they even came to our house for a few barbecues. These are hard working people who have a deep passion for their skills. You're just a spoiled nobody who likes to trash other people's efforts. Go Away!
Ty Nash....No I am a fan. Not a spoiled, arrogant, vain, pride-fu...No wait...You are being a good & faithful brother. I am speaking as a fan who has watched, loved, adored and yes enjoyed both the action AND science teaching moments of both the Star Trek series and movies (both the original and the Abrams reboot). And Ty Nash BTW, b4 you act like a spoiled child and a protective brother, remember there are many Trekkers fans out there who did not have Mike Doren, "CAPT Sicko," etc; over for BBQs but we are and STILL buy tkts and watch the re-runs that kept your sister employed. P.S. Enjoy a turkey leg for us.
Oh my. This looks sick. I know if I was an executive at Paramount, I would give you guys a million to get things going even farther. In my opinion the Earth Romulan War is not something you can cover in just one film.
I've been reading a lot of comments about this movie, many people seem to think that the acting is bad. Personally, I saw who cares? We all know Shatner is a BRILLIANT actor, who never over did anything. The acting seems quite good to me. People must remember, this is a fan film. I do agree however on one complaint, TO MUCH LENSE FLARE! Stil, can't wait!
Is it just me or is Star Trek becoming just another space action movie series? That's not Star Trek, at least not the Star Treks I grew up with. Star Trek was about philosophical problems that could, sometimes involve wars and fights. But there was always a good philosophical point to it. These new Star Trek movies are no different than most others these days. Booming explosion sounds, wars, fights and all because of a doomsday machine? OK, but where is the beef here? Fight, explode and win? Nah, seen too much. Overdosing on that stuff. Paramount, bring us back movies that make us think, while enternaining us. There is a reason why we don't go to the movies anymore, and hardly buy dvds. Is it that difficult to understand? You should see real life, not just focus groups. Still, I'll wait till it's available on Netflix.
ProjectNReSource Yikes, I didn't see that part. Still, I feel this is more aimed at bang-nag shoot 'em bad people. It would have been good to see the philosophical dilemna so dear to Star Trek. Maybe the rest of the film shows it. I didn't mean to trash it.
I am a hardcore Star Trek fan, i have a collection of ship-modells, but i love "space action movie series". TOS and TNG were about philosophical problems, but TOS and TNG are just a part of Star Trek universe. But you can find pfilosophical theme also in ENT, VOY, DS9.
I agree. Anyone making a new Star Trek should keep in line with the original lore and cerebral tone. Everything is up on Netflix--all they have to do is watch STAR TREK. This trailer doesn't convey the feeling of star trek at all--just some cheap syfy crap.
Armand Nouri In all honesty a trailer only showing cerebral tone would probably make a poor trailer. The purpose of the trailer is to show off the flashy cgi and maybe let us know what kind of conflict will occur. Though if you recall in TOS it was mentioned that their was a huge war between Earth and Romulus this conflict did occur and some have shown interest in seeing this conflict. Originally ENT was going to show this conflict but it went off the air before the story could complete leading up to the war with Romulans and Earth.
Yes, Steven, this is a fan film. In fact, it's a fan film from a producer who has never made a fan film before, so it's a first try, too. For some of us, the sheer love involved in fan films make up for many of their weaknesses. But if you don't feel the love, it's easy... just don't watch. If you do life Star Trek Fan Films and Fan Audio shows (as I do) let me invite you to explore Star Trek Reviewed, startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/
Syrinx69 Bet ya firth is yet another TOS Nazi. This trailer is broadcast quality VFX. One can always spice up the dialogue during the actual production. Ignore the critics.
terranborn56 He really sounds like he didn't realize this was a fan film... which is a compliment to a first-time fan filmmaker of the first order. Cool off with some nice completed Star Trek Fan Films... you'll feel better.
I will probably get a lot of flak for this but I have seen all five Star Trek tv shows and enterprise was always my favorite. I can't wait to see this come out and I know it's fan made but i plan to buy it:)
WOW! Those Romulan Uniforms were amazing... I like the new version of that shoulder strap and belt! The ones from Nemesis are a real challenge to recreate.
WE'RE ACTING! Really? Is there a single shot that doesn't center the actors or your visual effects? Anyone ever heard of the rule of thirds? These are all statue shots. Compare this with the ST:ID trailer. In that trailer the focus of our attention is hardly ever fully in frame. The actors are always paired with something else. The effects in that trailer are all window dressing to the human element. And the person speaking is hardly ever on frame. I love 3d effects and 3d art, but when you place them center frame and say "HEY, LOOK WHAT WE DID" and separate them from any real people, it makes it less and less real. Not that scifi has ever been real but effects are best used when they're not the focus. I mean, I love Star Trek, but there was better acting in ST: Borg.
Thank you Hinata we appreciate it.
I loved Enterprise. I am a fan, though. I love it all!
I don't understand why everyone is hating on the special effects. For an independant film they look fucking awesome. Can't wait to see this.
Now this is Star Trek! luv how they got the original classic style Rhomulan ships in full cgi splendor. And the sfx/cgi look really good for a fan made trailer, Abrams should take note.
OFF THE CHAIN!!!!!! For a fan made production, this looks first rate!!!
+Stuart K. Seels Agreed! Don't know exactly what off the chain means but yes I do concur.......kirk out
+SurpriseGuest1 off the chain, think of it as fan film after fan film. That are breaking or hopping off the chain of horrible and bizarre fan films. This actually looks pretty good.
+Samantha Gray then it is indeed "Off the Chain"!...Or "Off the Tractor Beam" if your a complete scifi geek like myself
'Off the chain' generally means that something is amazing.
So true, I'm a die hard, have the special edition voyager DVD sets. And the Star Trek Encyclopedia, it's my mom's. Only has every thing up to season 6.
I'm impressed that they decided to keep the uniforms consistent with the ones worn on "The Enterprise"
Must see.
DAMMIT!!!! I saw the title and thumbnail and got all exited because I though they were finally giving Archer's Enterprise a movie!
If you take into consideration budget and other resources available then this is incredible. All the haters need to recognise what this actually is, basically a fan film. It doesn't have a 100 million budget.
Actors seem OK too.
Keep up the good work guys.
Thank you Lord Ant, we do appreciate it.
I agree, I would like to see more that follows immediately after voyager left off, with a new ship and a new crew.
Really do.
that time traveller again. they really used the storyline. well done!
It's amazing what can be accomplished when fans unite to make something real. I hope this gets finished.
Benny, you're joking right? This is classic B rate. Straight to HBO
+Lacey Gaddis Is straight to HBO supposed to be a bad thing? LOL. This was filmed by one guy in his basement, it's a remarkable achievement.
There's demand, Paramount can't or won't provide, so why not find a new source elsewhere?
i agree completly!!!
suryavajra Stories are only as good as the actors and directors abilities. In this trailer all I saw was flat acting and poor lighting with over saturation filters. Story might be good but the delivery is what is going to bury it.
Hear, hear. The canon police has spoken.
Fans drive the franchises. Not Paramount or whoever.
Never watched a single episode of "Enterprise" but I watched THIS movie and loved it. You don't have to be a fan of the Enterprise series to enjoy it.
No matter what everyone else says this looks awsome and I am really looking foreward to it.
I'm with you. Star Trek: Horizon is a really great Star Trek fan film! If I were a movie reviewer I'd give it 5 out of 5 stars for a really great job well done. This is still better than that really awful reboot 2017 show "Star Trek: Discovery!"
This seriously takes Fan Art to a new level.
This. Looks. AMAZING!
We are at a place in time where fan made Trek can be just as good as what Paramont can put out. Im happy to see that in my time. Keep it up. :)
This looks cool as hell
MAJOR problem here, we aren't supposed to physically see a Romulan until a point in the original series some 100+ years later. How can we have a defector, with out people seeing what T'mar looks like?
Also in that part said that the Romulans do not have warp drive , it would be quite long war do not you think ? is it so hard to ask Vulcans or Orions what are the Romulans? the ST canon is full of nonsense
considering how similar romulans are to vulcans, it wouldnt suprise me if they never knew......besides in ENT they fought with romulans.....through drones...
ender25ish
yes they fought romulans, but they where VERY careful to never let them see them, thats because of the continuity they had to keep.
Mass Ryb
A lot of people think the Romulans didn't have warp drive, but there is no reason to think that. Now - add to that the fact that Scotty was talking about ONE type of experimental ship - not the entire capability of the Romulan Star Empire.
dtstrain your levle of nerd impress me
I'd honestly love to see this hit the big screen, I found ST Enterprise and the 22nd century the most interesting and eventful era of Star Trek.
I didn't think I'd be saying this but I am actually more excited for this than I am for Star Trek 2016!
Christopher Curtis Thank you, Christopher! That is indeed my goal and I really appreciate your support.
Thank you Christopher!
hats off to you guys.
Exactly my thinking. Unless you can make something better, where do you have room to talk? Nice to see positive comments! =)
Totally agree with this. This looks freaking great, looks like an action flick, and damn I hope it is.
Nice trailer.. Have to nitpick a little about the fire on the ship around 0:28. In space there is no wind, so the smoke wouldn't look like that. (assuming a fire could even burn at all in space)
Fire cant burn in space but you have to relize the fire from a ship would burn because oxygen and what not would be flowing out of the hole.
The iBookGuy
Not unless it was at warp, i.e., bubbles; if it was coasting or not, the smoke particles wouldn't have the same speed once they left the ship. Their motion would be determined by the force of the heat and general dispersion effect, (water drops to droplets, etc...) While it might've been enhanced for effect, their would be a trailing effect. (Inside a warp bubble, the dispersion would likely fog the bubble more- outside, it should trail behind...)
Unless there was a warp core breach... then the bubble effect would occur.
It's good to see people love Enterprise for a change. :)
Me too. Star Trek: Enterprise should have gotten another season after season 4. It's a shame.
Looks like amazing work! I worked on ST, but that was 15 years ago, and this stuff is just mind blowing.
Don't listen to the jerks complaining about your AMAZING looking fan film. Peoples expectations are way out of line with reality. A few lens flares are fine, JJ just over did it. Any way it's not even important
These fan movies kick serious ass.
What about DS9?
Skullsgate I never got into DS9 like next gen and the others, but i should give it another shot. It's on Netflix so i just may do that.
Yeah understandable, but it can move and it does have defences oh and it's right next to a wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant.
awesome work ^_^
Is it a game Danielle?
No, its a new movie
I will go to see that for sure.
Michel Barrette Same ^_^
Some really great work here! Thank you very much! Can't wait to see the finished product! Awesome Job!
Well said my friend, awsome job to everyone involved, I can't wait to see it........ Haters always gonna hate
the trailer is very impressive...looking forward to seeing this. also love the fact that this proves you do not need half a billion dollars to make a decent looking and excitied movie
I imagine Starfleet will see the Romulan's faces in this, even though TOS established that no one had ever seen the Romulans untill that episode
ReverendSyn They already dealt with that in the novels
So Archer and his merry little band of losers have seen Romulans I take it?
Figures. ENT constantly flew in the face of established continuity.
This is amazing. Great job! When will the film be released?
Andrea Gondová Question of the day. I know Tommy is working hard at it because we get to see snippets every so often. It looks amazing and will be well worth the wait. But being that the team is not very large it might be a while.
Paul Lang It looks amazing! I wonder which software is being used to animate and render the 3d models? Maya, 3d Max? Great job guys! Really looking forward to watching the movie.
Valter Vilar ProjectNReSource
Pretty damn good trailer for a low budget independant. REALLY love the design of the main Federation ship. Gj peepz
looks prety decent for a independant fan fic.
H8ts You get it. and for that you have our thanks.
***** "The original Star Trek was really low budget..." Um, no it wasn't.
***** people didnt even know what CGI was back in the 60s. during the 80s, cgi, like all other aspects of computers - were still at a somewhat young age. and it wasn't nearly as good quality as it is now. compparing modern star trek efects to old star trek effects is like comparing green screen with a background belt. totally different tier of movie technology lol
that being said, because this is a fan made film, the true ideas of star trek hold FAR stronger than they EVER will in Hollywood, which is why i have confidence Gene Roddenburry like vibes will emanate from this movie. I have faith. I will watch it upon release. :)
Boo Ninny Correct. When startrek hit TV it was the top of the tops of tv special effects. Only movies of the day could beat the effects and those were much more expensive and took longer.
Very cool. I'm looking forward to this. When they say Winter does it mean 2015?
Spring 2015. Keep an eye out on the web page and we will announce the premier. I believe we will be showing this at a few comic cons and then releasing via RUclips.
Paul Lang Any idea which Comic Cons? Come to Denver! :D
Looks like a SCI-FI channel 'B' movie with basement special effects.
How many more winters am I going to have to endure until I see this movie come out!!
I am not a trekie but i have enjoyed star trek for over 40 years and compared to the recent trek films this looks anything but epic and what is with the cartoon style graphics and the leatheret lazyboy armchair , maybe this is economic recession trek !
staunch2207 It's a fanfilm.
Adam McLaughlin Thank you Adam, I appreciate that. And yes we mean business.
For being a fan made trailer, that looked really good. I don't think u can do this without Archer as the captain though.
riedstep Thanks! It follows the crew of the NX-04 Discovery, so no weird retconning is required :)
ProjectNReSource if I was gonna ask for one thing from u guys for this is better audio. I doubt all the guys voices sound that high for real. With better quality audio they would sound amazing and would get us more into this trailer.
Are you kidding? Everyone knows EVERYTHING about Enterprise was a train wreck! Even the casting.
This is a different ship. Not the Enterprise. So Archer would not be in command.
riedstep Ya its the discovery, so we didnt see the crew with archer, trip, tpol and so... but this is a different crew and i think the movie will be great!
Dude... this floored me. I can't WAIT to see it!
The bad comments are the best compliment this movie could get.
It means it's good enough for people to actually take it seriously instead of giving it half a smile.
JJ version vs Star Trek Horizon ?????
YOU DECIDE .....................
I'll Take Horizon any day
Totally brilliant, more, now, please. Release date?
On a serious note: People SERIOUSLY need to stop relying on music to colour the mood of a scene. It should come from the acting and dialouge, not "generic emotional trailer music #291". Just my two cents.
Very much looking forward to this fan film. Enterprise deserved a chance to show the Romulan War.
Lensflare Deviant what do you think about STO then do you think that could become a movie or TV show and work well or...
james ward-gwilliam Do you refer to Star Trek Online? If so I have no comment. My trek fandom had largely ended when it came out and I never even looked at it. I have seen the 2 new trek movies but didn't add them to my collection. I won't mention how much the 'prequels' put me off Star Wars. :)
Lensflare Deviant im not really a big trekikie i just enjoyed playing STO and it impressed me how much attention to detail etc they put in so maybe you should have a brief look. the movies were okay. and i have hope that in star wars episode seven will rekindle a bit of the flame
You're wrong about the acting. It is not what it is.
In actuality, it is what it is not.
Simply amazing! Keep up the good work! ;-)
Paul Gordon It's set during Archer's time on Enterprise... or something to that effect anyway.
Way to go, for being fan-made this is great.
Sounds like the script could have used a polish (some redundant phrasing that messes up flow) but it looks good overall. I'd rather watch this than Crap Trek 3 Beyond.
Codex1 Yes, that has ten time the lens flairs!
+Codex1 The Vulcan saying "Obviously..." stood out for me. If it was obvious, a Vulcan wouldn't bother saying it!
Better than the new Star Trek Beyond trailer
When does this realese? I want to see it now!!!
+FirstChannel Thank you! We'll be releasing next month. No exact date yet but closer to the end of the month. It will be free for anyone to watch via RUclips :)
+ProjectNReSource thank you! it looks so cool man
+ProjectNReSource
Free on RUclips. That is unbelievably generous of you, man.
+ProjectNReSource its next month now.
+NWViewer1
It has to be free. If they'd charge for a Star Trek fan film, they'd be sued from here to the galactic barrier.
Archer & T'Pol were the best IMO, and Enterprise was "schlonged"
by the powers that be by cancelling season 5, 6 and 7.
+JillSaphic Agreed! I love those two so much and Archer is easily my favorite Trek character of all time. Whilst I have no plans to do more Trek fan projects after this, I'd certainly be willing to be persuaded if they showed an interest :P Seems highly unlikely, though.
+JillSaphic: Why should Bakula want to do more _Star Trek_ again? Why not try and accept the new movies and the upcoming TV show?
+Neville Ross wrote:
+JillSaphic: Why should Bakula want to do more Star Trek again? Why not try and accept the new movies and the upcoming TV show?
what? how would I know what Scott wants, but I guess one could've asked the same of every major Star Trek actor, not many of them seem to have ever turned down movies, or guest spots/cameo roles. Maybe for the fun and some extra money? Maybe to keep themselves currently relevant in the
Star Trek universe? And as for the SECOND part of your reply to me,
you should read it again.
Yep. I liked Enterprise better than NG. NG was too corny, & was probably designed to entertain small children.
Why is it low budget independent films can't get the audio right? At least figure out how to mic your talent on set!
LudicFallacies funny you should mention that ,
i would have said it the other way around, because so many big budget movies have the background music/effects up so loud ........half the time you cant hear them talking and you miss the spoken plot,
seriously .........take note of some of the audio on some of the old block busters over the last 15 years.
on some of them , it is almost as if theres really not enough action happening to lead one special effects eye candy scene to the next, so in lieu of something interesting happening the sound is turned up to exaggerate the drama.
for my money it totally spoils the flick.
mikldude
"half the time you cant hear them talking and you miss the spoken plot,"
You are watching a pirated movie that was in 5.1 that has been converted to 2 channel audio and in the process the center channel can be drowned out if the pirate doesn't know WTF they're doing.
LudicFallacies i suppose that is possible, i would have thought though that if the movies where shown on the telly/paytv they would have been legit, but yeah you just dont know these days .
mikldude
Do you have surround sound?
Everyone needs to stop the nit-picking about this film! It's an artistic endeavor that you would never take, I think this one will be excellent!
You and the ppl u work with have some damn good talent. Hope y'all are brought in for new series new movies so the franchise stays fresh. Thanks
God damn, do they think they did enough lighting & lens flare filtering? Looks like I'm watching through a fucking kaleidoscope!
I think it's the limitation of 3DSMax
Peter Dawes I think it's the limitation of the thing called talent. If the tool that you use does stuff like that, then why use it. Imagine if in the real star trek they'd shine a flashlight in the camera all the time and then say "it's the limitation of shining the flashlight in the camera".
Peter Dawes agreed....i'm sure aftereffects and a plethora of additional effects packages were used as well....first impressions of this are very positive...
Is this legit? If this is a fan-made trailer it's really good!
Horizon is a "fan film" that we'll be releasing in Q1 2015 :)
Pretty good stuff!!
I'll keep an eye out!
yep just looked it up. www.imdb.com/title/tt3854562/
Yeah the acting is pretty horrible, but i'm actually excited to see this, I wanted a movie or a new TV series on the Romulan War.
hope springs eternal for those those who have eyes to see the end of the path once taken
This is great.. The effects are super! It is time for a new great serie like this trailer....
ENT and First contact should be the pre-history of the JJverse. Both flew in the face of TOS so much they can't possibly be canonical with that timeline
Great! a fan-film set during my favorite Star Trek age.
Lens Flares: Not as exited anymore.
Future Guy trying to destroy the Federation: Obviously skipping the Christopher Bennet book series, not really all that excited, really.
pizzapicante27 Awww man, you're not excited any more? That's too bad!
Yes it is, oh well, more money for Axanar then.
Sounds good to me. I'm friends with them, worked on their stuff :)
Great! Im helping both
ProjectNReSource When the movie comes out?
And it is also available in German?
The focus is always on war, now; never exploration any more. I wonder if anyone even thinks of that, or if having a Bond villain is just accepted as a prerequisite.
***** Every Star Trek film except for Star Trek IV and the Motion Picture had a main antagonist.
People love action, i am hardcore star trek fan but i also love action in star trek.
WhiteRhinoPSO
I liked the Journey Home....
this looks good for an indie movie,
i would rather watch this than the jj abrams movies.
Why is it always about war? I remember times when Star Trek (and SciFi in general) was so much more...
Sad!
+cl10k Um, you had Enterprise? This is a movie springing off of Enterprise, looking at the Romulan War.
William Swanberg
And Kirk shagging his way around the universe. The bloke was a bit randy to say the least.
This is so bad that I puked in the first 10 seconds and my goose bumps dripped all over the floor.
Nicolas Zart You do realize this is a fan endeavor and has nothing to do with Paramount, right? It says it right in the description...
ProjectNReSource
Yikes, I didn't see that part.
Armand Nouri
In all honesty a trailer only showing cerebral tone would probably make a poor trailer.
The purpose of the trailer is to show off the flashy cgi and maybe let us know what kind
of conflict will occur.
Though if you recall in TOS it was mentioned that their was a huge war between Earth and
Romulus this conflict did occur and some have shown interest in seeing this conflict.
Originally ENT was going to show this conflict but it went off the air before the story could
complete leading up to the war with Romulans and Earth.
Sorry but compared to the previous star trek films....This looks poor....poor acting...poor special affects....poor everything....is this a fan film?
It is actually
Yes, Steven, this is a fan film. In fact, it's a fan film from a producer who has never made a fan film before, so it's a first try, too. For some of us, the sheer love involved in fan films make up for many of their weaknesses. But if you don't feel the love, it's easy... just don't watch. If you do life Star Trek Fan Films and Fan Audio shows (as I do) let me invite you to explore Star Trek Reviewed, startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/
@Steven- let's see you do better, needledick.
