    Thank you for this video, needed it today! I get to draw everyday for a living and I love it but I bury myself with projects for my clients and completely neglect my own art for days or weeks at a time. Needed a little reminder

      Thank you for checking this video out and sharing your feedback, Shaggy Terrell. I understand you completely! The old saying, "The local cobbler's kids wear the worst shoes." There's never time for personal work when we're catering to our client's needs 24/7. I keep this tiny Fabriano Hetre Mignon sketchbook on my desk and when I only have just a few minutes, I'll sketch into it with some kind of reminder, affirmation, or just a doodle that makes me happy. It's so small, it's kind of out of sight. But, it's been great for me. Here's the sketchbook, for viewing sake: www.fabrianoboutique.com/collections/hetre/mignon.html

      Haha!!! That's not a bad thing, Linda Smith... or is it? lol! That was my life for a long time, too. But, as I shared in a recent video (ruclips.net/video/H0mDhN5-ipc/видео.html), at the age I'm at now, I chose to step away from my art career after 30 years and try something new. I'm SO grateful I did, as it's helped me reconnect with MY life and not work so hard to benefit someone _else's_ life. For the younger creatives, take the work while it's available, I say! lol! Thanks for checking this one out. Be well! ~ Mark

    I love the painting. It gives it depth and character. Maybe we shouldn't hold so many unrealistic standards of ourselves. Reminds me of an old Native American Myth, "The dog you feed most is the one that wins."

    Lovely artwork as usual. I appreciated the encouragement to keep creating art on a regular basis. Life gets busy for me from time to time especially around the holidays but when I have a regular creative outlet I am a little bit less irritable and smile a lot more. Looking forward to your next video. Happy Holidays. 🎃 🍗 🎄 🥳

    • @MDCampbell
      @MDCampbell  2 года назад

      Thank you, my friend. I get it. Work always ramps up around the holidays, leaving little time for the personal stuff. And with family, kids, and travel, it all gets a bit tricky. That's why I encourage young artists to set up a good, small travel kit. To be able to be creative wherever they go... even for just 15 minutes! So necessary. Thank you for your time watching and such thoughtful feedback. ~ Mark

    Hey Mark, how you been? Happy Thanksgiving, cool Black Friday sales going on did you jump on any? I know about finding time for being creative. I am a nurse, full time, I have family and I am a RUclips Artist which takes time too. I would draw for 10 minutes, or draw during commute. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed or burnout so instead of draw I did something else creative like make a sketchbook or play with resin or try a new art medium like acrylic or chalk pastels.

    • @MDCampbell
      @MDCampbell  2 года назад +2

      First of all, thank you for your decision to work in the field of nursing. My father has been teaching nursing students for many years. And after having brain surgery, my appreciation and gratitude for nurses has never been more humble. So yeah, thank you x1000!! Yes, I did grab some Black Friday sales, but mostly gifts for others. My stable of art supplies is overly abundant. I have more than I will ever use. I usually donate my excess, but I'd need to sort through all my stuff to figure it out. lol! As for your alternative ways of being creative, well, huge kudos to you for exploring other mediums. I turn to my musical instruments a lot as my alternative. The freedom of being able to express my creativity through sound is just as important as visually. I hope all is well with you and you are finding enough time to breathe and enjoy plenty of YOU time! lol! ~ Mark

    I’m several weeks behind on watching this… because I’ve been busy creating!! 😎 Great message as always, my Friend! I completely relate to getting grumpy and out of sorts when I haven’t devoted time to being creative. In fact, Steve will sometimes say to me, “Do you need to paint?” and that’s my cue to do a gut check and see what I need. I love being creative when I’m cooking, gardening or planning family outings… but none of those fill and fuel me the way painting and drawing do. Thanks so much for the great reminder (challenge?) to be courageous!

    Great message (as usual). One of the main reasons I started my RUclips channel was so that I would be accountable to people and actually start DOING my art instead of just THINKING about it all the time. It worked! I'm so grateful I just started somewhere. It feels great. 😊

    • @MDCampbell

      Funny, I've seen the RUclips experience break many artists over the years. Some who just didn't have the time to commit to presenting videos and others who felt too much stress in the commitment to an algorithm. For me, RUclips has always been a hobby, so I'm grateful for it as an outlet to share my experience, my thoughts, and my work. I'm glad to know you're using it to elevate your creative experience, unlike those who walked away from the channels they built. I hope they are still pursuing their art, as well! I love the design and subdued colors you chose for this piece. A very satisfying exercise for you, too.
    The biggest roadblock in my artistic endeavors is the guilt. When I sit down to draw or paint, my inner nagging voice tells me I SHOULD be doing something else more 'important', like a household task or paperwork of some kind. The problem is that these tasks are never ending and you'll never be caught up on everything that needs to be done. So even though on a conscious level I'm aware of that, those nagging voices keep taunting me, LOL. I need to look into that Rollo May book.
    Also, when you're younger, it's easy to think, 'Oh, I've got plenty of time. I'll do it later' but when you keep doing that, suddenly it is MUCH later, and now you feel time is running out.

    • @MDCampbell
      @MDCampbell  2 года назад +1

      I can relate so much to what you're saying here, Diane O. I really can. I once wrote a song called, "Sunday Driving," with the lyrics, "_The work will still be there, the crazy-making stuff will be there. Even the bills will stay behind._" The song is exactly about how you said these tasks are never ending and we'll never get caught up, even if we spend all our free time attending to them. That song is about stepping away, going for a drive, and remembering those tasks are _always_ going to be there... but our time on this planet is limited. I feel the same way about being creative. That we MUST make time for it while we're here. Because again, like you said, suddenly, it IS much later and time is, indeed, running out. Thank you for your sharp insight on this topic and taking the time to share your thoughts. A very positive, yet humbling reminder to not take this moment for granted! Stay well!!! ~ Mark

    I have the courage to create but NOT the courage to share

    • @MDCampbell
      @MDCampbell  2 года назад

      Sharing is caring, matt Marshall! lol! But seriously, I really do believe it's all about the comfort level we are at as to share or not. Some people actually share too much, in my opinion, and they lose the viewers retention because the saturation is too heavy. Moderation and timing is key. The Beatles knew that and even 50 years after their last record, they continue to release material in time for the holidays and it sells like mad. Wild.
