Dad told me if I worked hard, did good work and didn't complain, and learned to give it back without being disrespectful, eventually they would ease up. Gradually, things got better and by the time I graduated high school I was mostly excepted and my time in the shop got much easier.

I work construction I build steel buildings, right now I have 3 hands that are on work release, these guys are the hardest working people I have ever worked with, I've seen over 70 come and go in 2 years and these TDCJ inmates on work release are the best I have ever seen.
I agree on not taking drugs at work but the drug testing is the reason why most of your good operators are not running machines they might want to go home and smoke a joint why they're cutting their grass but they'll fill your stupid drug test meanwhile you probably go to the damn bar every night and drink poison and then come in talk about all 12 step and I can pass a drug test and you ain't half the operator that the other guy is just cuz he smokes weed

I farm near a dairy facility. It is amazing how fast the skid steer, tractor, and pay loader operators can tear things up. They don't own the machines, don't have to fix up what they break and laugh at the boss who speaks English because they know there are other jobs available

The D10 was back blading and he thought it was a good idea to drive directly behind him. Thank God for rentals. This Volvo was around 45 hours old. It destroyed the entire nose. The engine was half out. Every mount on the drivetrain was ruined. He never showed up again.

He taught me more than any other person I've known in my life, but he was also the person I took more abuse from than anyone else. I swear, he was the crankiest mother f-er that ever walked this earth. He most definitely had short dog syndrome, he was only about 5' 4" but I never saw him back down to ANYBODY. I saw him nose to nose with guys that were like 6' 5" screaming at each other, and the other guy would ALWAYS be the one to back down, no exaggeration. He was like a Pitbull, short but not to be messed with, lol. I was most definitely treated like a stepkid at work, I'm just missing the red hair, lol. As a side effect of that I have a good work ethic and he taught me how to fix things, not to be too afraid to take something apart and fix it myself, how to run equipment, and how to think out of the box. Plus the important lesson, that you don't have to take shit from people...he definitely toughened me up for sure, lol.

Dude didn’t last 6 months before everyone was done and gave him the down thumb vote. Wrecked himself on a dirt bike running from the cops, just to be told, “GTFO” while riding some drainage canal.
I operated a komatsu 210 for a company for 3 years..one day while working in MUD the boss said this machine really looks nice😊😊...i told him just as you gave it to me🎉patients and deep love equipment is the key

as a man with construction experience: just because someone writes EQUIPMENT OPERATOR on the application, it does not mean they can operate. we would always test them out before hiring them.

Caterpillar is partially to blame for building equipment that will easily tip itself over and sustain mechanical damage while doing so. It’s not like this is a mountainside or some other especially treacherous location.
It can be frustrating, but that's the next generation, sometimes us elders need to help them, we were young rockies at one point as well, some of these younger generation didn't have a dad or uncle to teach them, sometimes gotta give a guy a break

I work in a tile factory and in my department i drive a cat front-end loader. They have these hoppers that we put the material in. They get new people there sometimes in different departments but they usually dont stay long. I've had new people see me in the loader and ask me if they can drive it and I always say no. Like im gonna let this new 18yo kid who has never been in any heavy equipment just climb up in there and take off in basically a big death machine. I had never been in heavy equipment before i started working there but ive been driving a loader now for 6 years. But i cant let some new kid in a different department get in it and hope he dont hit something or kill someone😂.
