  • The beginning of NewsCenter 6 Update on WRGB, CBS' Albany, NY station, located in Schenectady. This one is slightly longer than my weekend open I just posted, covering the first two minutes of the A block.
Liz Bishop is alone at the anchor desk (Ernie probably taking Turkey Week off), while featured in the long shots of the news set are Jim Brennan (sports) and Tim Welch (weather). Both left WRGB by decade's end, with Jim going to WTEN.
The main story is on the Egypt airplane hijacking, which the other newscast also covered. Again, I am uploading this amid word on a plane-helicopter collision in Washington, D.C., on the Potomac River; the hijacking killed 60 people. D.C.'s crash, as of this upload, has 67 fatalities. Another story teased, some high school students are charged with arson. One of them apparently was an honor's student. Yikes!
The news set, theme (Spirit of '82) and graphics were junked in the summer of 1986 after WRGB changed ownership. The set dated back to GE ownership and was starting to fall apart; its replacement lasted until 1998 with some minor adjustments over the years.
    (C) 1985 Backe Communications; WRGB is now owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group. All rights go to their respective owners, same for the advertisements. For educational and historical purposes only. We do not profit off this video.

Liz Bishop is Mrs. Channel 6. You can't write the history of the station without her.
