This is what happens when a good father is a guitar player. Nice playing and a cool guitar. Great gift from your father! I am definitely getting this amp, or a variation of it at some point, it seems very versatile and generally solid.
warezpl0 Thanks so much. I'm incredibly lucky and I will never forget that. You have to get one of these amps they're awesome! They improved me as a player :)
The nice Ash body resonates better through worn off lack. In my opinion Ash lends more low end, more overall bottom end warmth and sustain compared to lighter weight Erle
After watching your vids for ever, I broke down and bought one and have not fired up my EVH is so long because of it. The sound is immense and the form factor is beyond convenient for keeping anywhere in the house. It’s the best amp Purchase I’ve made in years for those reasons. Still looking for a deal on a pink San Dimas! Great channel Cameron and keep it up bro! Cheers from across the pond in St. Louis, Missouri.
That old one worn out and beaten sound a million times better than a new one which is like the voice comes from the pillow, old one has tons on presence. I love that already and Di Marzio makes amazing pick ups.
Although I’m an old dude I pride myself it not being stuck in the past. I love new guitars and amps , but your Dads guitar sounds amazing . At least to these old ears on Shiite speakers via RUclips . You play magnificently ! I have a THR 10, standard the cream colored one ... wish I would have gone with the olive ...thank you .
Dude your playing is RAD and so are your guitars , love the beaten up strat a la frankenstrat, the eve is beautiful too. Diggin the thr10x I could have got one but I was a bit penny pinching and got the thr 5 instead, love that 10x though. My thr5 was supposed to be delivered yesterday but we never heard the ups man even though we were in, heartbreaking I gotta wait now for it to be redilvered and it’s snowing which doesnt help. Keep rockin dude you shred
That's dead on! I've been thinking about grabbing one of these. Most of my old friends are married now so I don't really play with anyone anymore and this amp seems perfect for just playing around the house jamming along with these old albums. Would you recommend the THR10X or the THR10C? Which do you feel is better suited to classic tones like Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, etc? I understand you've owned them both.
Hi Cameron. I am a THR10 owner who seldom use it. On this video you gave me a good suggestion how set the amp. Your suggestion was very useful (full up master volume may be a key point). Thank very muuuuuch!
your videos are very usefull thanks so much !! ... I will appreciate so much if one day you can a video about sound like Angus Young on thr10x, it will be great !
The old beater sounds so much better than the EVH model.... it's old heavy saturated wood, with early dimarzio and it sounds fantastic. I like a little more rounded radius too, 9.5, 10, or 12 is best for me, I dont care for that super flat 16" stuff. Great video!
Hey Camron, what's happening! I've got a question for you. What's your recommendation on a D'martini/Crosby tone thru the Thr10x, Semore duncan Jb & 59
@@CameronCooper yep you are right. After watching a couple other demo videos just now, the phase isn't on par with what I think a phase should sound like.
I've had this amp now for a while now, but feel like I want to push it a bit more. Would an OD or compression pedal work on this? My budget doesn't call for an effects pedal rabbit hole, but internet is hard to find my exact setup
Holy shit, Kid! PLEASE... that is not a POS. It is very well aged, and still sounds awesome! I am personally impressed with your playing ability! I love watching you lay, and the sound is great! I appreciate your making this video and sharing your Dad' bad-ass guitar! I hope that you leave it that way. I would have have that thing framed and behind safety glass! My Dad means everything to me, and I would be honored to have an ld guitar from him. Take care, Brother! Thanks again!
Hey man I am just stuck between this or the THR10 yes I am a van halen fan but also I would like a versatile amp that can play fro clean blues rock to metal. However I am not sure if the THR10x is that versatile. Do you know if you can get the brown sound from a Yamaha THR10? Nice playing my dude and thanks for the vid!
Aoratos Aooratos Hi. The THR10 is probably the more versatile amp because it has very different amp models in it, but it doesn't have the brown sound in it at all. The THR10X is still diverse and probably the amp you are looking for. If you turn the gain way down on some of the models it's ideal for blues rock, in my case ZZTOP and ACDC.
Cameron Cooper Thanks for the reply the thing is because I am a beginner I want to enjoy a range of tones sonI can then choose my own but also want to be able to play almost anything. Kind of s hard decision. Keep rocking my man.
Great videos. I bought a Orange CR120 Head and cabinet about a month ago. I also bought a MXR phase 90 and MXR carbon copy delay. I have a probmen running them through my effects loop on the orange. Never really used pedals before. I know I dont like the way they sound on the front end on the gain channel of the amp. When I run them through the effects loop I seem to loose about 15 to 20% output and the sound becomes fairly muddy. the amp sounds great by itself but I would like to be able to tweek my sound with pedals. Have you had this experience with MXR pedals? Do you think it could be the amp and also do you use the effects loop on your modulation pedals or just run them from the guitar out? thanks
James Puckett That's an interesting situation although I never tend to use pedals anymore. When I run pedals through, run modulation effects through the front and ambient effects through the loop. I can't explain the changes in output.
this is good - so good. dyoo reckon you could make a dimebag setting using the southern hi gain amp? seems only fitting that evh and dime should live in my thr10x together. cheers cam!
Cameron, I really enjoy your videos. Great playing. Question about the THR10X. I realize it's not loud enough to jam with a band but does the sound "fill the room"? I'm trying to get a feel for if it still has a reasonably large sound or if it's just sort of like coming from a radio, if you get my meaning.
I have only just found this I am so sorry for not replying. I don't get notified about some comments. But I would say that the Yamaha does fill the room without a doubt, it has 4 speakers and has a really wide stereo effect. I you like, its like playing live through a portable hifi system. I hope that helps. :)
Cameron, what song is that riff from at the very start!? I just can't remember the name of the song and its driving me crazy! Great guitar to have in your collection too!
brown 2 with the brown 4x12 cab. treble 6.9 mids 7.9 bass 6 gain 6.8 (you can add delay and reverb if you desire) and optional add is the inbuilt chorus, speed 2.6 depth 3.4 mix 3.5 i hope you'll like it =)
Hey, nice playing. I'm beginning myself and trying to decide on a practice amp. I'm torn between the yamaha thr5, thr10, thr10x and boss katana 50. Any thoughts? Thanks
It all depends on what kind of player you want to be. If you want to be a heavy rocker get the THR10X. If you're interested in a great all rounder, go for the Standard THR10 (the white one). If you feel you want to venture towards vintage/jazz blues, go for the Yamaha THR10C. If none of these tickle your fancy, try the Blackstar ID Core BEAM. All amps are incredible and are around the same price range. As I say again, it's all about what kind of player you want to be. Best of luck. I'd love to hear which amp you choose. ☺
Thanks for the reply. Trouble is I like a bunch of different genres from rock, metal, fusion etc. Maybe the thr10 would be the best fit. How's the thr10x for lower gain sounds?
llwayneio Although the THR10X specialises mainly in high gain, the bass modeller serves as a great clean tone. If you access the THR Editor which you can download off the website you can get some many new sounds and it is so easy to use. Check out my recent video 4 Charvels and my favourite THR10X settings. I cover two of my favourite settings. The THR10 range are very diverse amps. :)
That Amp is one of the Best Bang for your Buck Amps I've ever heard for Van Halen tone. Since the Dimarzio Super Distortion has a lack of having too much output because when Eddie plays, he gets his main clean sound live when he backs off the volume pot. Any ideas on what pickup I should get?
Hi cheers for your comment. I have a couple of suggestions which you might be interested in checking out. But the Dimarzio Super distortion does actually clean out really nicely but mine is a very early one indeed, perhaps one of the first and not as powerful. You could try the... Bareknuckle VHII The Wolfgang Humbucker The Frankenstein Humbucker is good The Dimarzio Tone Zone is really nice too Some of the medium output Dimarzio's are great too. They're my suggestions. I hope they help. :)
Cameron, love your vids man, your a great artist and player, don't listen to the overly sensitive trolls getting all offended. hey any chance you can do a vid on Jake's waiting for darkness and the live outro solo for bark at the moon, kind of wondering your take on them. keep up the great inspiring work!!

+Tsong Aba The actual pick up is at least 32 years old so it is hard to pin point which model it is. Needless to say it is a very early one perhaps an original. :)
I'm 100% sure, but i have never seen a early DP-100 in a Zebra color before, either it was cream, or black, I have the 2nd issue version, which was between 76 - 80, you can tell by the wiring, braided ground with 1 black, and 1 white wire inside, The one i have is black, I think the zebra color came out in the early 80's, but like i said, i'm not 100% on that.
oddly enough...I think the HTR10 has a better Van Halen sound on the crunch amp dimed...but it's just a bit lacking in gain...now this HTR10x has gain for days...but the tone isn't quite right. I will do more experimenting and see if I can make the 10x what it should be.
Michael Nielsen Hi Michael. The THR10X has really awesome clean sounds in. If you back the gain off on the various models you get some really interesting tones. And also there is a Clean channel and Bass channel which is more than ideal for low gain tones.
Michael Nielsen You don't have to unless you are going for more vintage tones. If you watch my recent Top 5 Van Halen Riffs video, you'll see me play the intro to Feelin' which is the Brown 2 model with gain backed off
Andrew Scarpulla They actually don't make Charvels in Japan anymore but the quality of the ones they make in Mexico are insane!! Some Japanese ones do show up secondhand sometimes
Cameron Cooper yes, they do make the pro models in Mexico now. I do own a japanese wild card #6. I am fond of how it plays, just not the orange color. I am also contemplating buying a thr10x, how is the speaker on them?
It’s better to have a guitar you can call yours than a new guitar. I mean look at willie Nelson’s guitar. It is literally a beat up Martin n 20 classical that he had since it was new but you know it’s his.
I love seeing younger kids with guitar passion. Play for life and chase tones. Nice playing too

Cameron, would you happen to remember about where you had your ‘Guitar’ level set when this was recorded?
Tell me a bit about that guitar man! Looks Epic :) did you relic the maple neck or it's naturally aged?
Greatings from Sweden!
I just scored one , I love it it’s amazing like crazy amazing!
The 1977 sounds spectacular.

Young man, you really nail the VH tone, not too much distortion. But you nail the feel, very hard to do. That '77 Strat is metal as fuck!
You are some of the best stuff intellecually
I Imagine all you need is Eddies fingertips to complete the brown sound Cam. Lol! Very good sim of that illusive tone. Good form.

Good playing!
When you're older, that shit guitar will have more and more value in your eyes.
great vid dude
How are you recording sound for the video with it
In this video we just used the camera microphone
I actually liked the beat up strat sound more than the circle guitar.
Any chance of doing a Steve Vai tone? another great vid!
James Trotman Yeah dude there is a very strong chance of that. I am uploading it right now. Thanks very much :)
you should get an EVH overdrive pedal plus what you already are running you will be able to get 5150 era gain too, thats what im trying to get its a bit underrated. cool video mate, although i think his tone is a bit overated on the early albums, it sounds like you are missing some of the treble bite...
Lol@10 assholes that gave this a thumbs down. Nice job Cameron - very authentic tone and EVH licks! I have this amp too - it's awesome. : )
Thanks for posting this! And yes the piece of crap guitar really does capture the early VH spirit! lol
How old are you in this? I'm serious blown away!
18 I think
Killer lick at 2:13 ! What is this?
Great job !
+Maxime Pruvost (Maxime Pvst) Thanks a lot. The lick is a little variation of a part of the 'Beat It' solo :)
What settings do I need to make it sound like a normal basic electric guitar?
Just pick a drive you like and dial it to suit you. I have no idea what a 'basic electric guitar' sounds like
Great vid!!!
Do you know what amp is each module based on?
HEY SIR Cameron cooper. What is specific model of your DIMARZIO SUPER DISTORTION?
+Tsong Aba The actual pick up is at least 32 years old so it is hard to pin point which model it is. Needless to say it is a very early one perhaps an original. :)
I Mean the pick up youve been use to your franken strat.
+Tsong Aba Thats the pickup I am talking about ;)
+Tsong Aba get a 1970's dimarzio DP -100 on ebay
How does the Yamaha THR10X compare to MXR EVH 5150 Overdrive Guitar Pedal, anyone know?
Nice
I have this amp!
Sweet!!
Does the THR10X sound as good through headphones for real silent practice?
It does sound good! :)
All these amps sound great thru the USB for direct recording.
Were you plugged straight into the Yamaha THR10X?
All of the distortion came from the Yamaha. I added some MXR EVH Flanger and Phaser for effect as and when I felt like it.
Very nice I have those pedals.
Cool man. I’m sure your dads close to my age.
Cam how did your dad get you into VH🤟
Beautiful strat, stickers and all! Hail Dime!
The 70s strat sounds so much better than the EVH thingy.
Why they never said that the use noise gates and they mic the amp....?
I didn't use a mic or noise gate, probably why it didn't get mentioned
Can the thr-x model be used for more low gain purposes?
Michael Nielsen Hi Michael. The THR10X has really awesome clean sounds in. If you back the gain off on the various models you get some really interesting tones. And also there is a Clean channel and Bass channel which is more than ideal for low gain tones.
Cameron Cooper. Ok, so you don't have to settle for the c model or the original?
Michael Nielsen You don't have to unless you are going for more vintage tones. If you watch my recent Top 5 Van Halen Riffs video, you'll see me play the intro to Feelin' which is the Brown 2 model with gain backed off
so, this sound can't be had on the THR10c?
Probably not - the 10C model focuses more on bluesy light crunch sounds.
did you used only the yamaha amp
Yep just the Yamaha
I gotta get 1
Mom and dad have brought you up right, brother 🎸
They certainly have! Thank you so much!
Use it.. abuse it... stomp on it...blaze on
Will it work fine with logic pro x??
Steven Rodgers I'm guessing so. I've never tried it.
Yeah pretty sure it will. Going to get one this week sounds awesome man.
The super distortion is the shite and the secret to the van halen tone
Nahh it's in the fingers
Hello!
Have you ever owned a Kramer?
Andrew Scarpulla No I haven't but I have played many
Cameron Cooper ayy. Just curious because your Charvel collection very nice. I really would love to own a recently made Japanese san dimas
Andrew Scarpulla The speakers are awesome! A superwide stereo effect with serious drives and distortions! Buy a Thr10x :)
put a floyd on that strat, it definitely has more of the brown sound.
Which Songs so you play, First to, or is it impro?
