i think a lot about the push and pull of what i do, what i take in, how i use my time, what and how i create. it's obvious to me that many things inform each other, and that i'm not "wasting" time or energy in a lot of non-required activities such as reading/substack/youtube, but it's also obvious that my resources are finite. it's important to check in with whether something is fundamentally feeding or costing you, and to allow the answer to change regularly
A vlog a week is a wild ride. Without a full time job. (Says the man who meant to have one out this week but the EDITING!!!) And yours are always next level so I can’t imagine how much work goes into them!
🫶 thanks for the vlog love, it means everything coming from you. I love every bit of this video from the interactive music experience to the DFW to the dog in a sweater. You create such beautiful things. I love your videos and what you’re able to make in such a rigid schedule. It’s so impressive AND it’s okay if you prioritize writing or anything else that you want to make or do. I don’t know what my balance looks like yet but I’m playing with it every week it feels like. All I know is I really loved that month of writing ❤️
the glasses! the Carver poem! 21:30 reminds me of a 90s japanese movie (so many trains in japanese cinema)💚 taking more time for things, being slower is something i want to do in 2025 as well. if you are feeling like vlogging is encroaching on something that you feel is more important to you, or maybe more creatively fulfilling, like writing, then it is i think especially important that you find a schedule that permits you to be more at ease in your heart and mind. no matter what you decide to do, you have built an audience on this platform that appreciates the work you put into what you create and the things you have to say and that will watch your vlogs even if you make less of them! take care
thank you for this kind reminder! i really do just need to better understand how to devote all good time to all good things. so yes, taking time for more things and coming to things a lot slower. thank you for always watching and your wonderful words! you always make my day! 💫
I agree with Sophie here that something we do outside of work can switch from feeding to costing us. Being honest with oneself about that really makes a difference to the quality of one’s life. I hope you had a great trip home to LA and I do hope your family and friends there are as alright as they can be, Nathan.
thank you for this lovely comment and lovely reminder of separating work and play! by the end of the day, it should be fun and IS fun! i just have constantly remind myself of this ✨💛
you're truly a VLOGenius 🙏 soichi terada is so powerful with his presence and music, thank you for capturing such moments!! and the david foster wallace interview hits so deeply. the layers with kim sawol's voice at the end are mindblowing!! woahhh
yeah! i’m glad i did as there aren’t too many videos of him playing live! hope this serves some joy for Soichi fans! thank you for your presence here ✨🫶🏼
Thank you so much for making videos! They help me remember what matters and what I would like my time to be spent on. Onto reading with attention and engaging in reflection, less short-form entertainment quickly forgotten. :)
Hii Nathan, I haven't watched this video yet but recently I been thinking in your intros a lot. Where do you get all those photos and music? I mean would to know where do you get your inspiration it's impressive 💗
ahhh thank you so much! truly means a lot! most of the photos are taken during the course of days the vlog holds. i stumbled upon this David Foster Wallace interview on tiktok and wanted to watch it in full, and the loneliness he speaks of reminded me a lot of the loneliness in The Shining, where some stills and scenes are from found in the video. cold, but there’s an intact togetherness that still drives one towards a loneliness we’re not allowed to be in, almost snowed in and trapped by it. sometimes, i’m unsure of what to do with my solitude. so i’m making sense of it here ☃️
@@nathansnook i've never seen that film, but with your video i probably will. i feel like you would like the poems of Federico García Lorca. He writtes about different themes: loneliness, love, pain... In such a beautiful and heartbreaking way. Btw thanks for sharing!! I really enjoy your videos
Your videos are very artsy Not sure who the guy in the intro is but he’s absolutely right that fewer and fewer people have the patience to read actual books and the art of reading is being lost. I’m something like eight hundred miles south of you but it’s cold here too. Bukowski is a writer I should have read by now but if I do pick up something by him I’ll choose a shorter book cause I don’t like people who overstay their welcome either. Be well.⚛️❤
@@FrankOdonnell-ej3hd we really do need to get back to the art of slowing down and being patient with art and people! even through all of this cold! Bukowski’s poetry is accessible! speaks to modern man and modern problems and goes down smooth like a good whiskey 🥃
@nathansnook you should check out ARTE's "Durch die Nacht mit"/"Au cœur de la nuit". It's artists, authors, musicians going on dates with each other. I don't know though if there are other proper language options than German and French :S
my my thank u for introducing me to soichi terada with this vlog! love the interview as well, it still holds its truth 21 years later. and did u buy those blue elephant glasses? i think they're a neat alternative to your black ones, something to switch to for special days.
of course!! i feel like he is under looked when we think of electronic dance music, but he has contributed quite a lot also to video game music! and i did not buy the blue elephant glasses yet not sure if i absolutely love them 😭😭
love the david foster wallace bits, one of my 2025 resolutions is to engage more and hurry less, so i decided this is the year to read ´the magic mountain' by thomas mann even if it takes months (it will 😛

@@Shelf_Improvement hahah so the tables have turned! i always enjoy making them! but i think it’s my discipline that gets the best of me and pushes me to try to stick to a vlog a week. maybe discipline must change! and for other things, better things ✨💛

a vlog a week is a big undertaking! it might be interesting to explore a vlog every two weeks or even 1x a month. i'd be down for longer vlogs!!
