He had a hundred people on his boat and then it was sunk. afterwords, he made a deal with davy jones to get it back. the price one hundred souls worth the hundred people that he would rather save than make slaves. but even then he wasn't going to make slaves of people. instead he allowed himself to become a slave. He was a respectable person that wanted to do what was right and it backfired on him. but he took what happened and became what they called him. even though he was truly just wanting to live his life on his boat. because to him it was all about being on the sea and being free. free to do whatever he wanted. so he is a very interesting character.
